The Mirror to my Soul
[This poem is written by a dear friend of mine and I don't own this poem in any way at all. All credit to LakshmiGupchup for writing this. Her poems are amazing and you should go check out her book 'Words of a Hopeful Heart' and read/vote/comment on it!]
I awoke to see a mirror,
A mirror to my soul.
I saw my soul, brilliantly lit,
but shrouded in the deepest shadow,
which sought to extinguish the light.
I fought the darkness,
Asking desperately why I was the one to fight.
After all, I had only done what was right!
The mirror then, showed me my death,
A sacrifice, for the greater good.
Accused of doing the right thing,
I cried, "Then why the shadow?
My sacrifice should bring light!
But then, I saw the consequences,
Of actions I thought noble
Mothers mourning daughters,
And fathers mourning sons.
As tears sprang up to my eyes,
I let them fall,
letting those tears,
Wash away the darkness
Of my sin.
