Chapter 3: Prospect
"Naruto," Izumi began as she watched the blonde with a strange look. "Why are you holding the cat like that?" Naruto looked up, a grin on his face as he held the cat by its four paws, aiming it at Izumi like a crossbow.
"Doesn't he look funny though? I think he looks funny," An irritated growl from the cat erupted from its fuzzy mouth.
"Naruto, that's the Daimyo's wife's cat. It's quite valuable." Naruto nodded.
"Sure is, but I don't understand why it's a D-Rank mission if it's so valuable," He held the cat up at Shisui, shaking the cat back and forth, an amused smile on his face. "It's funny."
"Naruto," Shisui chided lightly as he grabbed the cat and stroked its fur gently, a purring sound emitting from the feline as Naruto watched with wide eyes. "You have to treat animals with respect, not like a mission."
"Ah, I get it now," Naruto said as he began walking. "Okay, I'll see you guys tomorrow." And with that, the blonde boy ran off.
"Oh," Izumi whispered. "Are we leaving, sensei?" Shisui seemed taken aback by Naruto's sudden absence.
"I guess I can return the cat," He said with a sigh. "Do you guys even know where he goes?" The two Uchiha shook their heads.
"He just disappears, I've heard he buys food at the local market, but that's it," Itachi spoke as he looked at the path that Naruto had taken. "Should I track him?" Shisui pinched the bridge of his nose.
"No, that would be counterproductive as to what we are trying to do."
"And what are we trying to do, sensei?" Izumi countered, raising her eyebrow at the older Uchiha. He shrugged.
"Get him to trust us? Maybe even interact with us outside of training and missions? I'm not entirely sure myself." He trailed off before shaking his head. "You guys can go do whatever you want now, I'll meet up with you both tomorrow," The two Uchiha nodded before Shisui disappeared in a burst of chakra.
Having dropped off the cat, Shisui Uchiha himself decided to track down his student, deeming it important, as a sensei, to know what his student/subordinate did after their missions.
He searched the alleys, the streets, the training grounds, even the Namikaze's house, but nothing, just emptiness. Shisui was about to give up before he forgot one thing.
The Hokage Monuments!
He slowly walked onto the mountain, easily trudging up the large man-made structure as he heard two faint voices speaking quietly.
". . .sensei? He's pretty good, right?"
"Yeah, he's great. Not as good as you though," Shisui slowly approached the voices, and to his surprise, he saw Naruto sitting next to Kakashi Hatake on top of the Fourth Hokage's stone head, the two eating a bowl of ramen as they chatted casually. Silently, he observed them.
"Well, I appreciate that. But Shisui is one of the stronger Jounins that Konoha has to offer at the moment, you should feel lucky you have one of the better ones." Naruto nodded.
"I am grateful, he's taught Itachi, Izumi, and I a lot. I'm growing stronger, I can feel it." Naruto squeezed his fist as he watched the sun setting on the horizon, the sky turning a dark purple as the village below him glowed like Christmas lights.
"That's good, plus with the extra training you've been getting from me, you'll be the strongest Genin in Konoha by the time you're eight-and-three-quarters."
"So in about a month?" Naruto asked rhetorically. "That's good. I want to make Jounin by the time I'm twelve, like you!"
"It's not all it's cracked up to be," Kakashi said with a light chuckle. "That I can promise you," Naruto laughed a little.
"You're just saying that because Anbu Captain's have to do all the paperwork," Kakashi muttered something unintelligible, causing Naruto to laugh even harder. "But, something is troubling me." The boy said those words, but the small smile on his face didn't vanish, something Kakashi was used to.
No tears or frowns from Naruto Namikaze.
"And what's that?"
"These," Naruto spoke as two chakra chains sprouted from his back as his one-tomoed Sharingan sprung to life, spinning slightly. "How am I going to train with these?" Shisui almost choked on his own spit as he saw Naruto's Sharingan.
How did the blonde have the Sharingan? An Uchiha exclusive bloodline? Could it be that Kushina Uzumaki had an affair? Unlikely, could it be that Minato was part Uchiha? A possibility, but he never knew an Uchiha who had yellow hair.
He also had Chakra Chains! Two tools that could subdue a Tailed Beast, and being a Jinchuuriki?
Maybe he could be a God. . .
"Kakashi-senpai," Shisui spoke, deciding to make himself known. "Can I speak to Naruto for a few moments, privately?" Kakashi's eye widened for a second before nodding, standing up as he pat Naruto on the head.
"Of course, and I'm not your superior anymore, you quit Anbu remember?"
"Whatever you say, senpai," Shisui said with a grin. Kakashi shook his head at the younger man's antics before disappearing in a Shushin.
"Naruto," Shisui began as he sat down next to the Namikaze. "You could've told me you had the Sharingan, why'd you keep it a secret?" Naruto was silent for a second, his grin turning into a small smile before he answered.
"The Uchiha Clan, they would've claimed me as their own. As much as I love Mikoto and Fugaku, along with Itachi, Izumi, and Sasuke, and all the other clan members, I don't want to be known as an Uchiha in the history books. I want to be known as a Namikaze." Shisui formed an 'O' with his mouth as he watched the sun completely disappear from view, the rays still shining behind the mountains they had disappeared behind.
"I see," He whispered. "Does anyone else know?"
"Besides the Anbu who saw it on the night the Kyuubi attacked, Kakashi, or the old man? No, nobody knows. I'm 99% sure that Jiji made it a S-Rank secret, like my Jinchuuriki status."
"I can train you in secret, with your Sharingan I mean, if you want," Shisui spoke, surprising Naruto. "Kakashi is strong, and he's good with the Sharingan, but as a natural Uchiha, I'm sure I can teach you some tricks he can't."
"I'd appreciate it," Naruto replied with a grin. "Maybe you can teach me how to disappear like you do sometimes, without the chakra burst, I mean," Shisui smirked.
"It won't be easy, mastering the Sharingan and the Flash Step?" Naruto gave Shisui a thumbs up.
"I'm going to be the strongest person ever, if I can't master two things, then I shouldn't call myself a shinobi!" Shisui saw the glint in Naruto's eyes and stood up.
"Naruto," He whispered, looking at the village. "You will be strong one day."
"I will hurt you."
"Please don't,"
"THEN STOP!"
"It's funny."
"THEN I'M GOING TO HURT YOU!"
"Please, for everything that's holy, please stop."
"HE KEEPS STEALING MY POCKY!"
". . .you stole that from me." Izumi froze as Itachi pointed at the box of pocky in her right hand, several pieces missing as Naruto was munching on one at the moment.
"Ah heh heh," She laughed nervously before turning around and running away with Itachi's pocky.
"Itachi," Naruto said as he watched her form getting smaller and smaller. "Aren't you going to go get her? She has your pocky." He then finished the rest of the pocky in his hand and looked at Itachi with a bright smile.
"Hn," Was all Itachi got out before he ran after Izumi, a certain glint of murder in his eyes. No one touched his pocky.
No one.
"Naruto," Shisui spoke as he appeared next to the blonde silently. "That was slightly impressive." Naruto pulled out a box of pocky from his pocket, a grin on his face as he chewed on a piece.
"Thank you, it's a bit ironic, two Uchiha being fulled by Genjutsu." Shisui nodded absent-mindedly.
It's been two months since Shisui and Naruto began training in terms of the Sharingan and the Flash Step, and Naruto has been exceding Shisui's every expectation he's set for the boy. After an impressive feat, he would set the bar slightly higher, and each time Naruto would leap over that bar as if he did it every day.
It was terrifying for the enemy.
Naruto now had two-tomoes in each eye, being able to project low-ranked Genjutsu with a glance. He was also able to perform the Shushin as accurately as Kakashi, which was slightly above average than the regular Jounin of the village. Soon, he would have complete mastery over the technique, like Shisui.
If Shisui were to guess, Naruto was around high Genin to low Chunin level. He was accelerating at a faster pace than the others, and he was worried that he would become Chunin with Itachi nor Izumi.
Then again, the boy was setting himself up quite high.
And he would meet every expectation.
Team Shisui
D-Ranks: 218
C-Ranks: 28
B-Ranks: 0
A-Ranks: 0
S-Ranks: 0
Hiruzen Sarutobi looked over the team's record, and he was impressed. It's only been six months since the team of 7-8-year-olds has become a team, and yet they had better track records than any other team in the village at the moment, Genin-wise.
Perhaps they were ready for a B-Rank mission?
"Speaking of Team Shisui," Hiruzen said as he put the paper back on his desk. A rapid three knocks hit his door before it opened, revealing Team Shisui.
"Reporting for duty," Shisui stated as he stood in front of the desk, saluting the Hokage.
"At ease, Shisui." Shisui instantly relaxed and sat in the chair in front of the Hokage's desk, propping his feet up as he ate a piece of candy, yawning slightly.
"If you insist," Shisui replied easily. A tick mark appeared on the elderly Hokage's forehead as he glared at the younger Uchiha, but he let out a tired sigh, not caring anymore.
"Anyways, Shisui, in your opinion, do you think your team could handle a B-Rank mission?" Shisui immediately got out of the chair, standing at attention, a serious look across his face.
"Of course, Hokage-sama. I'd be surprised if they weren't ready for a low A-Rank." Hiruzen looked extremely pleased, looking at the single nine-year-old and two eight-year-olds. "That's quite impressive, so about Chunin Level?" Shisui nodded.
"At the very least mid-Chunin. They are quite strong, and they are a good team, able to cover each other's weaknesses."
"Except Naruto-kun," Izumi stated bluntly in a deadpan. "He's the best at everything," Naruto's eyes widened as he smiled awkwardly, waving his hands in front of his face awkwardly.
"No no no, Itachi is way better at Genjutsu than I am, and you're faster than I am! I'm really only good at ninjutsu," He lied as he tried to make his teammate feel better.
Lies.
Was that what his whole persona based off of? Lies?
They didn't even know he had the Sharingan. . .
Hiruzen watched the older teammate interact with the younger one with amusement in his eyes. His eyes traveled to the male Uchiha, who just watched with a content look as his two teammates bickered slightly, obviously happy to be where he was.
"Well then," Hiruzen began, clearing his throat as the noise in the room ceased immediately. "You think they'd be ready for the Chunin Exams in about two months?" Shisui nodded.
"Absolutely," Hiruzen smirked.
"Good, now as for that B-Rank." He pulled out a scroll, unrolling it slightly as he read its contents. "You will be escorting the Daimyo's son back to the royal palace. Do you accept this mission?"
Shisui was about to speak but paused as he looked at his Genin team.
"This is all of our mission, do you wanna do it?"
"Of course," Itachi spoke easily. "This will give us just a bit more experience for the Chunin Exams."
"I'm all for it," Naruto said with a cheeky grin. "I wanna see the capital!"
"Why not?" Izumi said with a smirk, palming her fist. "I'm ready to fight whatever gets in our way!"
"hE'S tHe bESt aT eVeRYtHiNg," Naruto mocked with a grin. Izumi swiped him on the head, but had a small smirk on her face as well. Hiruzen smiled warmly at the team as Shisui began laughing at the two while Itachi closed his eyes, trying not to smile.
"Okay then, you will escort the Daimyo's son back to the Fire Capital!"
And done. How was it? Good? Bad? Tell mee!
Next chappie will be better I PROMISE
