Chapter 17: Future

Naruto, Kurenai, and Anko walked closer towards the chanting, it getting louder with every step. Naruto held up his hand, causing the two women to stop.

"Hold right here, I'm going to go investigate," Anko pouted.

"What? That's no fair! How come you get to do the cool thing?" Naruto shrugged.

"It could be dangerous. That chakra is something of other worlds, you can't even get close to it without getting nauseous." Kurenai rose an eyebrow.

"And how can you know this?" Naruto sighed before spinning around, facing both of the girls.

"Okay, have you guys ever heard of Killing Intent? A special technique that comes naturally for some and harder for others that can freeze an opponent based on the potency of it?" Anko nodded while Kurenai shook her head. "Okay, have you experienced it, Anko?" She shook her head.

"Okay, Kurenai this will be a learning experience, and this is just a taste of what you will feel if you were to go into that room." He took a step back before he suddenly activated his Sharingan as waves of Killing Intent blasted off of him, directing itself towards Kurenai and Anko as they suddenly felt unable to move, fear clutching at their hearts.

'I'm going to die,' Kurenai and Anko thought at the same time. 'I'm going to die.'

Sweat was forming on the two kunoichis, their breathing only got quicker as Naruto's usually smiling face turned into a frown as he glared at them before the pressure that was holding them still suddenly increased twofold, forcing them down on their knees, their eyes wide.

And as soon as it came, it vanished.

"That is but a taste of what that room holds," Naruto said before turning around. "Now stay here, I won't be long." He then disappeared.

"Why do I feel when he's talking about that room," Anko began, standing up, still shaking slightly. "That he is also hinting at his own power?"

"He is strong," Kurenai whispered, cursing her own inferiority compared to Naruto. "How the hell can a twelve-year-old be that damn strong?!" She stood up, her hands clenched in fists. "I have a feeling that he is much stronger than he leads on about."

Naruto entered the room, the chakra swarming around him. He let out a sigh. He didn't have to do that, show Kurenai and Anko his Killing Intent.

But there was no other way! They wouldn't understand! This chakra. . . was poisonous.

Naruto got onto the ledge and peered down at the room below and saw eight different people in a circle all of them were wearing white cloaks that hid their faces as they surrounded a blue fire that was the source of the chakra.

The chanting stopped.

"Naruto Namikaze, step out from the darkness. It was foretold you would be here." It was a man's voice. Naruto stood up fully and jumped off the ledge, landing softly on the grass.

"Who are you and why are you causing this chakra outage?"

"Naruto Namikaze, son of Minato Namikaze and Kushina Uzumaki, Heir to the Creator of Ninshu." They chanted in unison, disregarding his question completely.

"Answer me! What are you doing here?" Naruto said, unnerved that they knew him. They didn't answer him once again.

"Two brothers merged to one
 A fight within never won
To begin a quest so spacious
To unite your people in one nation
An unhappy tale, you shall lead
But fulfill your goal, you shall succeed
 The path is terrible
 You will find no happiness
 Contentment you won't find
 Until the shrapnel hits
 To begin a life
 You but restart
 But your worse enemy
 Is within your heart."

"I'm not going to pretend I understand any of that gibberish," Naruto spoke before he approached the blue fire, the men and women in the white cloaks doing nothing to stop him. "But I know what I need to do, this is bothering too many people. Their uneasiness can lead to destruction, I hope you understand."

"The Flames of the Future," The same man from before said. "Before you extinguish it, please, gaze into its beauty. The answers you search for, in there, they shall be." Naruto narrowed his eyes at the blue fame before he saw something in it.

He saw Itachi and himself fighting together as one. He saw himself leading a team of Genin, that made him smile. He saw himself at a dinner table in a restaurant with a shadow, unable to see the person he was with. He saw the Third Hokage gazing at him happily.

He then saw something else.

He saw the man with the mask who had killed the Daimyo's son all those years ago fighting a man who looked like Naruto would if he was older. He saw himself standing at the Memorial Stone, but this time it seemed as if he were trailing down a list.

"No," He didn't see the names. He couldn't see the names, but he knew what they meant. He knew what that meant. Somebody he knew was going to die.

He then saw a single black cloak with red clouds littering it before he saw something that shook him to the core.

He saw himself with the Mangeykou Sharingan, glaring at somebody hatefully before his eyes widened at the vision.

He saw himself glaring at an entire village before the flame turned a bright white, blinding him temporarily as he took several steps back, clutching his eyes.

Was this the future? No! It couldn't be! He would not let this come to pass if it was! He would not become whatever that was! He would not become this monster! It was a trick, it had to be a trick!

"Yue isa mwa Dbonf od Jsujwady," An ancient voice spoke in a different language, the sound filling Naruto's ears as he suddenly put his hands on his head, hit blind eyes clenched shut. "Yue qonn csokv Msea Jaida."

Then, it was quiet. Naruto opened his eyes, able to see once again.

"What the hell was that?" He said, realizing that he hadn't been breathing as he swallowed the air into his lungs, his breathing uneven.

"The Voice of Old," A cult member spoke. "Our mission is completed," They begin fading as if they were ghosts.

"Wait," Naruto called out frantically. "I still have questions! I need answers!"

"You've received your answers, just not the ones you wanted. Consider your mission completed," The fire immediately went out as everything vanished from Naruto before he saw black.

Naruto felt himself being moved. A threat? Most likely. He flipped over whatever was holding him, his sword glittering with lightning as his Sharingan activated, poising the blade at Kurenai's throat.

"WOAH WOAH WOAH WOAH!" Anko shouted, stepping in front of Kurenai. "Calm down, Naruto! You're fine, you're with friends!" Naruto's eyes before the chakra stopped flowing in his sword, his Sharingan deactivating, his sword slowly going into it's sheathe.

He stood up and bowed deeply.

"I apologize for almost hurting you, Kurenai-san. It was not my intention." Kurenai's eyes widened at the apology and waved it off.

"It's fine it's fine, you just did what any experienced shinobi would do!" She said quickly, trying to get the intense atmosphere out of the air. Naruto straightened up, a grin on his face.

"So, where are we?" Anko pointed over his shoulder and turned his neck and saw the gates to the village, a relieved sigh escaping his throat. "Wait a minute," He bowed again.

"Thank you for carrying me, Kurenai-san! I don't know what knocked me out but I appreciate you carrying me back home!"

"Hey I helped too," Anko complained with a playful smile on her face. Naruto, still bowing, turned to Anko.

"Thank you Anko-san for carrying me home as well! I appreciate you both!" He straightened up, rubbing the back of his head. "So what happened anyway?" Anko shrugged.

"We have no idea, one second we're waiting for you to get back then suddenly we're back in the sand with you unconscious and next to us so we just took turns carrying you."

"And you're actually quite heavy," Kurenai commented. "How can a twelve-year-old weigh that much?" Naruto comedically patted himself down, only feeling his kunai, shuriken, explosive tags, and his swords.

"Uhhhhhhh, muscles?" He was quite defined for a twelve-year-old so maybe that was it. Kurenai shrugged, it didn't matter anyway. "ANYHOW," He began loudly, turning back to the village. "You two ladies go back home, rest, or whatever you do on your free time, I'm gonna go get a bottle of whiskey and then go give my report to Hokage-sama!"

"Ah, yes!" Anko said, fist-pumping the air. "Time to go to the Hot Springs and relaaxxxx," She drawled out the last word, her eyes half-lidded as she imagined the hot water cooling her worked muscles. Her eyes lit up for a second. "Actually, Naruto, can I talk to you for a second?"

"I too, wish to talk in private," Kurenai requested respectfully. Naruto nodded as Anko dragged him to the tree line, her hand wrapped around his wrist rather tightly. Was she finally going to kill him for the whole having to tuck her in, in his hotel room?

Anko faced Naruto, her face slightly sheepish. "Hey um, back in that town? You saved me from those weird guys and I don't think I properly thanked you, so, on behalf of Anko Mitarashi,"

"B-But you are Anko Mitarashi. . ." Naruto interrupted, getting hit on the head by a now slightly irritated Anko.

"Don't cut me off, idiot!" She hissed. "Anyways, like I was SAYING before you INTERRUPTED me, thank you. You could've just left me there to be," She shivered. "Used. But you did something that no one has done for me, and that was defending my honor. You also tried your very best not to sneak a peak when you could've taken one and gotten away with it, so thank you, Naruto." She said with an embarrassed smile.

"You're welcome," Naruto said as he smiled genuinely at her. "I'll never let my comrades get hurt, not again!" The last two words he said in his head. Anko nodded, patting Naruto's blonde hair twice.

"Welp, I'll see ya later shrimp." She said before walking off, leaving Naruto as he blinked twice in confusion as he shakily put his hand on his head, replicating the feeling.

No one has shown him affection like that since. . .

Flashback

"Dad, what's my little sister's name going to be?" Naruto questioned curiously as he peered up at Minato Namikaze's face. Minato chuckled. Tomorrow was the day Kushina would give birth.

"How do you know it's a girl?" He replied. Naruto hadn't known it was a girl, only they knew and they wanted it to be a surprise for Naruto. Naruto shrugged.

"Just a feeling," Minato laughed as he stood up from his reading chair, setting his hand on Naruto's blonde locks.

"Her name is Naomi if you must know," He rustled Naruto's hair, causing the little boy to scowl as he swatted his father's hand away, making Minato laugh loudly.

"C'mon Naruto, let's go get some ramen."

Flashback End

Naruto then turned to Kurenai who had approached him after his initial shock from Anko passed. "Yes?"

"I wanted to apologize," Kurenai said softly, ashamed. "I looked down on you and your abilities based on your age when that was wrong of me. And then I challenged you for control when I should've trusted your judgment, and then I called you a 'demon' in the tunnel based on a bad memory. I'm truly sorry and I hope you can forgive me," She deeply bowed towards the twelve-year-old, making Naruto inwardly scream.

'AHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH,' He screamed inside his head. Good thing a Yamanaka wasn't nearby or else they would've never read someone else's mind again.

"It's fine, really. You apologized and regret it, as long as you do that anything is forgivable." Kurenai thanked Naruto one last time before going away. Naruto glanced at the village, grinning.

'Whiskey here I come!'

And done. How was it? Good? bad? tell mee!

Anyways ye

Til next time my lil demons!
