Winter 4

Winter 4 - Good bye.

More and more years have passed and Elsa grew to be a beautiful yound lady. Though even as she grew on the outside, her heart remained in her childhood and so did her memories. Until now she had not forgotten of her accidentally hitting her sister and as it continued to haunt her, her powers continued growing stronger.

Because of that, even though she wore her gloves, everytime Elsa was startled or suprised, ice would blast out from her hands and into any thing they were pointing out, so almost half of her room had been covered in frost and ice.

But that did not stop Jack from helping her control her powers. Everyday he came to Elsa's room and advised her to calm herself down for it was clear that if she was upset, she'd definitely lose control.

"Business trip, huh?" Jack asked as he stared out the window and watched the king's men load all their stuff into the ship.

"Yes. They said they'll be back in a few weeks." Elsa told him while she was tying her hair up in a bun.

"Oh. Then why worry? If anything goes wrong, I'm here to help." Jack told her, glancing at Elsa then back at the ship.

"I know. But it's not my powers that I'm worried about." she admitted, looking at Jack from the mirror.

"Then what?" Jack asked, turning to Elsa.

"I don't know. I just sort of have a feeling, you know. Like... like something's going to happen." she explained "Jack, I'm scared. I'm scared of what might happen to them on their trip. This is the first business trip they've been on."

"Hmm... well, if you're that worried then how 'bout I  come with them?" Jack suggested.

"What?"

"I'll come with them to their business trip and make sure they'll be back safely." he said.

Elsa thought about it for a while. With Jack gone to guard her parents, who will be left to help her with her powers? But if she doesn't let Jack go, then who knows what might happen to her parents while they're gone.

"Well... I guess that would work." Elsa answered slowly, still unsure and a little bit afraid of what may become of her without Jack or her parents to help her.

"Don't worry, Elsa, I'll watch them like hawk. I'll make sure nothing will happen to them while they're gone."

"I know. It's just that..." Elsa sighed.

Jack knew what Elsa was trying to say so he thought of another idea "Okay, how 'bout I guard them on they're travel and once they've reached their destination, I'll fly back here to you. How does that sound?" he explained to her.

"Huh? You sure? But... no. No, no need to do that for me. You shouldn't put yourself in too much work. Besides, don't you have to bring winters to othet parts of the world?" Elsa declined.

"Yeah. But, what about you?" Jack asked in worry.

"I'll be fine. I have to atleast try to handle myself. I can't let you help me all the time. What would become of the mischievous Jack Frost when they find out he's babysitting a snow princess? It's probably best if I try to control my powers by myself." Elsa said with a slight giggle, Jack giggled as well.

"Okay, fine. But if I ever have time, I will come back and see how you've been." Jack insisted.

"Sure. Thanks, Jack." Elsa thanked him then she wrapped her arms around Jack in a hug and Jack did as well.

"You're welcome, snowflake." Jack whispered to her ear and as his cold breath brushed on her skin, Elsa somehow felt a shiver run down her spine. It was weird for any cold breeze never made her shiver before. Not 'til now, that is.

They released themselves from their hug and exactly, a maid knocked on the door and called on Elsa from the outside "Young mistress, your presence has been asked by the King and Queen. They will be waiting for you in the lobby."

"Oh. I will be there in a bit." Elsa told her and the maid walked away "I'll see you in a while then?" she said as she faced Jack.

"Sure. I promise to bring them home safely." Jack promised her, Elsa nodded. Before leaving, he gave her a kiss on the forehead like he always does, but it seemed longer and more passionate than all the other kisses. Or perhaps that was what she thought.

At the lobby, Elsa waited for her parents and as soon as her parents had came near her, she gave them a small bow.

"Do you have to go?" Elsa asked them, worry still visible in her voice even though she was sure that Jack would be there to help them. The fear just wouldn't go away.

"You'll be fine, Elsa." the King assured her.

"We'll see you after the trip, dear." the Queen walked up to Elsa and before Elsa could stop her, she gave her daughter a tight hug and a kiss on the forehead "We'll miss you."

"I'll miss you too." Elsa told them, trying to keep the tears from falling down her cheeks.

Once the King and Queen were out of the castle, Elsa quickly returned to her room before Anna could see her. Anna almost did see her sister, luckily, Elsa was quick enough to enter her room and lock herself in.

At the pier, Jack sat down on a pole in the ship and continued to watch the men load everything into the ship "Your Highness?" one of the men offered his hand to the queen to help her climb up the ship.

"Thank you." she thanked him once she was aboard and she looked back at the castle where she could see Elsa and Anna watching from their windows.

The Queen smiled and waved to her daughters who waved back at her. It pained her to be away from them for the first time for she never left her daughters alone after what had happened a few years ago.But she believed they were old enough to be left alone for some time. She had faith in them.

The Queen stared out at the sea as they traveled, thinking of her daughters and remembering how much they suffered the pain of being apart from each other because of their decisions to lock Elsa in her room and to keep her powers hidden from everyone.

She knew it was the right thing to do but as a mother, who wouldn't feel the pain of seeing her daughters away from each other? Seeing them not playing together like all the other children.

"Are you alright?" the King asked his queen as he walked to her.

"Oh, yes. I was just thinking of Elsa and Anna. How I miss them already." she answered, wiping a tear that she did not know had fallen from her eye.

"Yes. I do too."

"Dear?" the Queen called to the king "I just wondered. Perhaps right now it is time that Elsa and Anna are kept together. I mean, they are old enough, aren't they? And they have been away from each other for too long. I'm sure that from the past several years, Elsa has grown to control her powers and Anna is old enough to understand her sister's condition." she explained.

The King exhaled and thought as well. Yes, it was painful to keep the sisters apart but as a father, what choice did he have? He didn't know how Elsa actually got her powers so he, too, had no idea if there was a way for Elsa to control her powers properly. For the past years that he has watched Elsa grow, he has observed that the older Elsa grew, the stroger her powers got that not even her gloves could conceal it.

But as a father and as a husband, it pained him as well to see them apart and before the accident, before Elsa had to hide her powers, she could control them perfectly. It was only that one time that she didn't. And that made him wonder.

The King then realized that perhaps Elsa and Anna's closeness to each other was the reason for Elsa to control her powers. Perhaps there was something in their bond that somehow became a chain for Elsa's powers to be concealed when not in use.

And so he decided, this could be a chance for the sisters to be together once more. It was a big chance for Elsa to control her powers and for Anna to be with her sister again.

"Okay." he answered "I believe it is time they spend some time together. And I believe that Anna could probably help Elsa control her powers because Elsa has controled her powers before the accident and it could probably be because of Anna."

"So you mean, they can be together once more?"

"Yes. Let's just hope that my theory is correct."

The Queen gave the King a tight hug in so much joy. Finally, her daughters could be together again. They won't have to suffer the pain of being away from each other anymore.

From the pole, Jack could hear their coversation and he couldn't help but smile. It truly was good news to his ears.

As they sailed on peacefully, Jack decided to shut his eyes for a moment until his rest was interrupted when he felt something cold drop from the sky. He re-opened his eyes and saw drops of rain continued to fall non-stop from the dark skies. And then, thundered roared and lightning stroke in the heavens. The wind grew stronger, making Jack fly away from the pole he had been sitting on and into the skies.

Jack resisted the wind and tried to fly back to the ship to help them but the wind was too strong, he couldn't control it for some reason. Jack panicked after he saw the sea forming gigantic waves, tossing the ship from side to side, raising it high up then back down until one huge wave raised above beside the ship. Jack struggled to fly back and save the King and Queen but it was too late.

He watched in fear as the ship was devoured by the gigantic wave until it had disappeared to the bottom of the sea. Tears started coming out of Jack's eyes as he continued to fight the wind and see if he can manage to save the King and Queen, to find them in the vast stormy seas and fly them back to Arendelle.

But no matter how he fought, the wind won the battle and he was dragged away from the scene.

Back at Arendelle, the very next day, the news about the ship of Arendelle not arriving to Weselton had reached the kingdom. Elsa had heared of the news and she immediately ordered a search party to look for any survivors, more particularly, her parents.

The men searched far and wide all over the vast sea but they found not one body, dead or alive, not even the bodies of the King and Queen.

After a week of searching and finding nothing, Elsa stopped the search party and she and Anna accepted the fact that their parents were dead.

On the day of their parents' burial, Anna knocked on her sister's door, hoping that she'd come out just this once, now that they only have each other.

"Elsa? Are you coming to the burial?" she asked, her voice shaking with sadness. But Elsa gave no answer from the inside "Elsa, please? I need you right now." still there was no answer so Anna gave up. She knew no matter how she tried, Elsa would not come out of her room.

Inside, Elsa sat by her door, looking up at her frozen ceiling as the tears came rolling down her face. She didn't know what was more painful; her not being able to comfort her sister in her times of need or losing their parents unexpectedly. The pain was too unbearable that her powers started going haywire and she had frozen everything she touched until her entire room was covered in frost and ice.

At this moment, she was truly broken now, not sure if she can handle more. Elsa wanted to die. She wanted the pain to just go away. But as the thought of dying came to her mind, a picture of Anna crying non-stop beside her sister's corpse flashed before her eyes.

She could hear Anna's trembling voice as she called onto her sister, pleading for her to wake up even though it was clear that she will never wake up.

As the thought came up on her mind, Elsa then thought that leaving her sister in this cruel world was more painful than isolating herself away from her, where Anna was aware that her sister was alive.

The world truly was cruel and she didn't understand why she had to suffer more of the pain.

From the silence in her room, Elsa could still hear her father's voice, encouraging her that she could control her powers. The memories of her childhood started replaying on her mind. From when she was young and her powers were still controlable. She remembered the times they played during winter seasons, she, Anna and their parents. The birthdays they celebrated together and the moments they spent together.

And then a memory of the night when she accidentally froze Anna's head came into mind. She could see herself being tucked into bed by her mother, and she could still hear her mother singing to her a lullaby to help her ease the pain of what she had done.

Listen to me, dear

It's nothing there to fear

You are close to me

And that was meant to be.

It won't hurt you here

Your powers' coming clear

This icy storm inside

You only need to hide.

It was not your fault

Your magic went our cold

But I am sure with that

Your sister will forget.

She'll be fine again

But it can't stay the same

You have to hide it now

'Cause Anna do not know.

"But, Mama, I'm afraid! I don't know what's happening with me."

"Elsa, you'll be fine. It's a part of you and you need to learn to live with it.You can control it."

"No, I can't! I don't even know how! And what if I'm going to hurt someone of you again?"

"No. You won't."

Elsa, I will protect you

I'm right beside of you

You will be safe and sound

There won't be harm around

No need to have fear

It makes you special, dear

This power's a part of you

We will be going through.

Remember, I love you

Just the way you are

Jack watched from the window, feeling pity on her and at the same time, blaming himself for what happened. He made a promise to keep Elsa and Anna's parents safe but look at what happened. He failed them. He failed Elsa.

He feared that if he showed himself to Elsa, she might get furious and start attacking him after what happened and he didn't want that. So Jack decided, he had to leave. Even if it pained him to do so, he had to for the guilt was too much for him to handle.

"I'm sorry." he whispered before he flew off, away from the castle and away from Arendelle. Forever.

To be continued...
