Chapter 1
Every student has two greatest fears; the fear to repeat and the fear of failure. She was already considered as a failure already so the worst that can happen to her is for her to repeat her class. And that thought made her so scared. She wasn't ready to relive the past again.
She was really anxious about whether she was to be promoted or not. The last term hadn't been predictable at all. She knew that unlike all other terms, she had a huge tendency to repeat as she got her worst result so far. Her highest achievement was getting a D in Maths and English. In the report sheet that was sent online to her parents, her promotion status wasn't included there, so Mr. Alapetu had to go to school to inquire about it.
To say that she was scared would be an understatement. She was more than scared of the news her father would bring home. Did she repeat? Did she not repeat? The thought of thinking about that gave her a headache. She rubbed her temple in worry as she continued her speculations.
"Layo, do you have Digiola number."
Moralayo looked up to see her sister looking weirdly at her. She didn't even realise when she got the living room. She could depicher the look on her face. She was so sure that her sister knows the reason for unrestlessness and such was using it to mock her. "I don't have her number," she replied after a while.
Susie hissed under breath and rolled her eyebrows at her. "so that was what took you minutes to reply ba, why would you even have her number, sef? It's my fault for asking"
Layo pretended like she didn't hear the last statement her sister had just said. Of course, she couldn't have Digiola number. What does a socially awkard person needs a social butterfly for? The two were just too incompatible.
"since you don't have her number, check your class group chat for it"
Moralayo furrowed her brows in confusion at what her sister had just said. Was there a group chat for her classmates? Of course not, how will there be a group chat and she wouldn't be added.
"Who are you to be added to there, does anybody know you sef?" the stupid voice in the name of subconscious reminded her.
"can you stop thinking and give me the damn number already, " she said with a hint of annoyance.
Class group chat is meant for everybody to be a participant, so if she is not there that means there wasn't any thing like that. "I'm not sure we have at all," Layo replied.
That statement made Susie to throw her head back in laughter. How could they not have a class group chat? Every class had their group chat even up to the Jss1 students. Her sister could be naive at times. "wait, first how many contacts do you have on whatsapp?, she couldn't help but ask that question.
"why are you asking all these questions na," Layo replied. She knew where her sister was getting at her but wasn't ready to give her the pleasure of it.
Susie hissed as she stood up from the chair. "Think all you want, but the truth remains that you're more than naive. I can't even believe that we are related gan. Better go and get new friends so you won't be a loner forever. Imagine you saying you don't have a class group chat." She took a moment to calm down as she continued " and I know what you are thinking of already. The news daddy is going to bring. But let me tell you, my prayer for you is that you should repeat. "
At the mention of repeat, Layo widened her eyes. What the hell was her sister saying. How could she wish such on her?
Susie noticed the change of emotions in her sister and clapped her hands dramatically. She knew that she'd think that she doesn't care but she really does, even though she shows it in a funny way. "I truly mean it, all this one that you are being promoted on trail everytime and still, at the end of the term it makes no difference. It's better you just repeat maybe then you'd become more brilliant and less dull. That's the best bet for you."
"May you be the one to repeat, you wicked girl," Layo gasped as she realized she said those words out and quickly covered her mouth with her palms but it was too late already, her sister as heard it.
Susie couldn't believe her ears. Did her sister just talk back at her. She wanted to lash out at her but decided against it. She already had too much on her plate. "I can't repeat, you dumb ass. I'm the head girl of the school and you.....," she looked at her with a digusted look as she continued "is just a piece of dummy who needs prayer to make it," with that she left, leaving Moralayo to process all that had just happened.
Although what her sister said stung her hard, she couldn't help but wonder if she was right. Wouldn't it be better if she repeats? She rubbed her temple in worry as she tried to process the pros of cons.
"Lemme just wait for daddy to come", she muttered. Like a soothsayer, she heard the door sound and quickly she stood up and rushed to the dinning area. Her dad had arrived and he had a weary look on his face.
"Daddy, good afternoon," she greeted as she approached closer to him. His face held no emotions, she couldn't make out what he was thinking.
"Are you going to keep staring or won't you bring water for me," Mr. Alapetu said as he hissed.
Moralayo brought a cup of water from the kitchen and quickly gave it to her father. She was really anxious as to what he would say. "Daddy, how about......
"If you want to ask me how it went, then don't bother asking again," he interrupted.
This made Moralayo more confused. Does that mean that...... "oh!no.
"Dadddyy!" the screech interrupted Moralayo from her thoughts. It was her sister who had just made that sound. She watched as she flopped on the chair beside her father and conversed with him and that made her feel a ting of jealousy. They had totally forgotten about her. She faked a cough, which made both heads look up at her.
"where's your mum," Mr. Alapetu asked the both daughters.
"She went to the bank, " Layo replied.
"Uhmm..... daddy what is outcome, did the principal say anything?" Susie asked.
"well, he said that he would get back to me. The result of her promotion is not yet out," he said.
Moralayo heaved a sigh of relief. Although she was still very much anxious, she was happy that she still had time before the news hit like a bomb.
"I'm going up to my room," Layo said to no one in particular. She was more than sure that they didn't hear since they went back to their disscussion. As she got to her room, she flopped on her bed and removed a book Zara the Windseeker from underneath her pillow. The book just had a way of touching of her soul and mainly because she could relate to the Character, Zara.
As she was reading, she felt a tingling sensation and the need to sniff it. She couldn't help it again. She had gotten so addicted to sniffing it each day. She went over to her study desk and removed one of it and then removed it from the container and poured in her palm. She kept on sniffing and inhaling the scent till she felt that calmness and as soon as she felt that relief. She disposed the container in the bin and went over to the bathroom and took a quick bath.

"
you don't like the food," Mrs. Alapetu said as she noticed her daughter playing with the fork.
Moralayo looked up and gave a smile to her "I like it, Ma."
Her mum didn't press further again. They were all seated at the dinning table enjoying a meal of Pounded yam and eforiro with goat meat.
"Moralake, drop that phone thie instant," Mr. Alapetu said as he noticed that she had been pressing her phone under the table the whole time. It was a rule in their house not to use phones while eating at the dinning table but Moralake, being the phone addict she was, couldn't spend a moment without it.
"Daddy nau," she pouted. When she saw that he wasn't going to budge, she continued " but daddy, I told you that I prefer the name Susie. I don't want people to confuse me and Layo"
Her father looked up from the food and rolled his eyes playfully at her "Susie ko..... Sushi ni," he said sarcastically. They all burst out in laughter well except Layo. She already had a enough on her plate to deal with..
"Hunni, what about Layo, what's the conclusion," Mrs. Alapetu asked when the laughter had died down.
"I don't know ooo, the school said that I should be expecting a message," he replied.
"I just pray that she should not repeat oo," Mrs. Alapetu said as she went back to eating the food.
"Amen," Layo replied.
They all looked at her and like that, she became the centre of attention and that was what she hated.
"Mtchewwww...... When you were meant to read and burn the midnight candle, you did not know," Susie said.
"stop saying that to your sister, Lake," their mum said with a tone of anger in her voice.
That was the last straw for her. She knew that she needed to pour out her mind despite the consequences she would face after. Layo was her sister afterall and she deserved to be cared for.
"Mum and dad, please let me say this, Layo doesn't even understand simple definition of things that she ought to know as a SS1 student, Waec and Neco will come na and we will running up and down. The best bet is to allow her repeat, I'm sure that she doesn't even understand the syllabus of the SS1 subject gan. Ss1 is usually the foundation of Waec, Neco and all other exams. If she doesn't get it together by this time, then when do you expect her to get it right. Now that there's time for her, let her grab the opportunity ooo."
"She's my sister and I want the best for her. Promoting her to a class that she can't even understand the previous class syllabus is doing more harm than good to her and I know that you are doing all this because you don't want your daughter to be referred to as a Repeater but trust me you're just ruining her life the more." As soon as she said that, she took a moment to catch her breath. There was still things that she also wanted to say but from the looks on their faces, she knew that she had said a enough already and she hoped that the message will sink in.
Mrs. Alapetu knew that her daughter had said the whole truth but still it wasn't easy to live with the fact that it may be true. "Go to your room and wait for me there," she said to Susie as she gulped a bottle of water.
She looked up and saw that Susie was still rooted at the same spot. "Go to your room and wait for me there," she repeated again and her eyes gave a daring authority.
Mr. Alapetu tried to calm the tension that was building up but all to no avail. Susie was still rooted at the same spot and his wife was still repeating the same thing.
"Hunni, don't tell me that trash, how can I be talking to her and she want to disrespect me. Is it the stupid height she has that is giving her the effrontery," Mrs. Alapetu said fury laced in her voice..
She got closer to Susie who was still rooted at the same spot. Just as she was about to connect her palm to her face, a notification sound vibrated.
Moralayo felt her heart stop. Had they just sent the result? They were all caught up the drama that they had completely forgotten about her. She looked over to where her father was with the phone in his hands.
What was taking him so long?
Mr. Alapetu looked up from his phone to meet the curious gazes fixed at him. With a neutral expression in his face, he dropped the phone back on the table " Layo, we are going to your school tomorrow," that was all he said as he walked out from them amidst their confused faces.
Does that mean.......??? Oh! no

Thank for the 100 + reads ❤
And that's a wrap what do you think is in stock for her?? Is what Susie said the best bet?
Layo still sniffing something again and just like y'all are thinking. I'm thinking it's drugs oo but if it's drugs wouldn't she be more secretive 😕 and more so, drugs isn't the only thing inhalable or is it? Similar thing is what happened to a classmate of mine she too was inhaling something.
Moralake a.k.a Susie 😂 any thing for her? Who agrees with what she said? The girl sef one minute she cares the next she's nonchalant. Any thoughts about her speech?
Then can I hear your predictions 😉. What do you think the message was maybe it's Airtel that sent message that your data remains 50 mb 😂like me, I'm expecting my own message.
