Wake up call

Sans closed the cover of the notebook and dropped the pen he had been writing with on his desk by it, pushing back the swiveling computer chair. As he stood, he took in a deep breath, puffing his chest as he mentally prepared himself for another exciting day of adventure. He sighed in content, a bright smile on his face, his scarf tied neatly around his neck, his battle body straight and clean. Today was going to be amazing.

"PAPY! PAPY PAPY PAPY PAPY PAPY PAPY PAPY!" Sans bolted out of his room and down the hall, skidding past his brother's closed bedroom door and nearly hitting the wall, his socks skidding across the carpet. Trudging back, he knocked loudly on the wood, calling out for the other skeleton.

"Come on, Papyrus! Time to get up!" Sans blinked as he heard a gurgled groan, followed by fabric shifting and a heavy thud. He rolled his eyes as he opened the door, peeking his head in. Lying in a heap of sheets that were somehow still half on the bed, Papyrus snored loudly, his face down into the rug.

"No, Papyrus! GET UP!" Sans went over to him and shook Papyrus' shoulder, frowning slightly at the stench of cigarettes on his brother's hoodie. With a lot of effort, he managed to roll the taller skeleton onto his back, using the toe of his boot to poke Papyrus' rib cage.

"Papyrus? Are you dead?" A snore shooed away the suspicion, giving Sans a reason to stop smiling. The small monster huffed and put his hands on his hips, contemplating a method to wake Papyrus up.

"OH MY STARS, PAPY, THERE'S A HUMAN!" Sans yelled, stopping to stare glumly at Papyrus who stayed asleep, trying to resist the urge to check if there was any signs of a human. He frowned more, thinking.

"I HAVE HONEY!" Snore.

"I BROKE THE TV!" Shift, a soft, unintelligible mumble.

"I GOT TICKETS TO THE NAPSTABLOOK CONCERT." A faint growl.

"... Napstablook and I are dating." Sans nearly screamed as Papyrus shot straight up, orange magic flicking to life in his eye socket, his body tensed. The older brother grabbed Sans by his upper arms and shook the poor kid, a blood lust in his expression.

"WHERE IS THAT BOX OF BOLTS?! I'M GONNA RIP OUT HIS MAIN FRAME!" Sans had to calm the shock in his soul from his brother's immediate reaction, replying with: "Good morning!"

Papyrus glared darkly and muttered something that Sans would die upon hearing, breathing heavily, but stopped shaking him.

"Are you really dating him?"

"No." The tension left Papyrus body as he sighed deeply, closing his eyes for a brief moment. Sans smiled at him and waited for his next words. After a minute of silence, Papyrus let go of Sans and promptly laid back down on his side, his back to Sans.

"Good night."

"What?! No, Papy-" An obviously fake snore cut off Sans, erasing his smile once again. Sans sighed and looked away, his cheeks puffed.

"Okay, I'm sorry for making you all angry and stuff, but can you please get up?" Papyrus was silent, his face out of Sans' view. Sans huffed and poked his brother's shoulder, tilting his head to the side.

"Will you feel better if I made pancakes?" Papyrus didn't reply at first, but eventually mumbled "yes". Sans smiled and fixed his scarf, nodding.

"Honey?"

"Yes.."

"Okay. I'll tell you when their done." Papyrus lifted his hand limply just enough so Sans noticed, showing that he had heard him. Sans smiled and bent down to place a small, friendly kiss on Papyrus' temple before leaving the room.

As the smaller skeleton's footsteps receded, Papyrus sighed softly, pulling his hood over his skull to cover his face. He despised the shaft of light from the hallway that illuminated the dim room, but did nothing to get rid of it.

After a few moments of nothing, he let his eyes fall close again, begging his mind to grant him enough peace to sleep.
