My Favorite Anime pt. 2
Hey everyone! It's been a while since I've had a personal thing on here. And if you're wondering, YES I'm STILL working on character playlists. Ao's and Jack's will be our soon, I just need to make sure I've got the right songs!
Anyway, let's get started!
First up is...
Mob Psycho 100
That show was...WOW.
Not only was the story amazing and hilarious throughout the entire first season, but the animation matched the quirkiness and intensity of the show. Often times, you'll see pencil drawing animation, which is something you rarely see in other anime nowadays since every studio makes sure to make their animations clean. This show didn't give a fuck though. And it worked! My favorite characters are obviously Mob and Reigen. Mob is my sweet, psychic bean who can go OP on your ass if you do a wrong move. Reigen is his teacher who's pretending to be psychic to make money and is somehow still doing well?? And for the first time ever, I actually like this show's English dub. Reigen's VA just SELLS it like no tomorrow and it's great.

91 Days
I already made a separate segment about this show, but I'll say it again--I loved it. An anime set in the 1920s with mafias, and prohibition, and gun fights and spicy betrayal? Perfect! (If you'd like, check out the rant if you haven't.)
Basically, this guy Angelo sees his family get murdered by men of the the Vanetti family and he becomes orphaned at a young age. Later, when he's an adult, he gets an anonymous letter saying he has a chance to get revenge and kill the entire Vanetti family off by infiltrating their family under the new name Avilio. Guess what yo boy does?
It sucks that the show didn't get as much attention as it deserves. It's honestly amazing and so well animated and the story telling is fluid. You get attached to Avilio (or Angelo) without getting much insight on his character, other than that he's intelligent, badass, manipulative asf, and out for revenge. And the other dude, Nero, was also really rad and it sucks that throughout the entire show you know that Avilio's mission is still to kill the Vanetti family, thus he has to kill Nero, which he's done a great job of getting close with. The ending fucked me up too anD I STILL CANT GET OVER IT TO THIS DAY, LIKE DAMM.
Next is:
Yuri!!! On Ice
Do I even have to explain?
Even though the show didn't have as much focus on the ice skating sport as it did on the development of Viktor and Yuri's relationship, I still think it's a phenomenal show. The animation was pretty and it did well to showcase all of these different skating routines. It did a good job of queer baiting at first, uNTIL IT ACTUALLY GOT GAY AND EVERYTHING MADE SENSE. I'll never get over this show. It like, broke boundaries and LITERALLY MADE HISTORY LIKE THE OPENING SAYS. We all got PRANKED, and in the best way. Viktor and Yuri are my most precious couple and I cannot wait for Season 2. I still cry over their ending duet skate to this day... So beautiful...

Re:ZERO - Starting Life in Another World
Aside from the fact that this show became a popular anime and got a lot of attention and shade in a very 'Sword Art Online-way', I still loved it. Again, like I always say, the animation was so clean and pretty, and the character designs were excellent...aside from Subaru's because he's supposed to look like an average dude. The concept of dying and respawning to a past moment in your life, like a video game checkpoint, and being able to try and change horrible outcomes before they happen is extremely intriguing and, at times, confusing. But the show makes it work. It's such an eerie thing to watch a character die or watch characters become savages in one outcome, when they're sweet people before then. Can't wait for another season, since the first season was actually a prologue in the manga.
Also, REM WILL ALWAYS BE BEST GIRL AND DAMMIT SUBARU YOU COULDA HAD THAT.
Next is:
Miss Kobayashi's Dragon Maid
This show was absolutely adorable and sweet. I mean, what's not to love about badass and sexy dragons who become familiars to average humans and have to live normal lives like their humans?
I'll always adore the animation and character design of all the main cast. This show had me laughing and awing in every episode and I was kinda sad when I finished it. All of the characters are so lovable in their own ways--but my fave will always be Kana, my beautiful dragon bean! I need a plushie of her. Also, the opening gets me extremely pumped up and it's just a magical thing, ya know? I highly recommend this anime if you want something cute and funny, but not something that focuses on real-life situations like slice-of-life.
Next is:
Netflix's Castlevania
This show is originally English, and the art style has some anime influence to it, while also being Vampire Hunter D-esque in style and atmosphere. Although the first season only has 4 episodes (what the fuck Netflix), I still enjoyed it. I know nothing about the Castlevania games, but getting into the show was easy from the very beginning. The main character, Trevor Belmont, is lovable in the sense that he's witty, rude, clever, badass, and charming and he just sticks to you. You can't help but root for him. If you wanna try out the show though, I'd suggest to be careful because it doesn't hold back on showing TONS of gore and dying things. All in all, I can't wait for Netflix to release more of this show.
Next is:
Netflix's BLAME!
(It's pronounced \blam\, for some reason.)
This one's actually a movie, but created by a Japanese studio and originally in Japanese like a traditional anime. It's also in the new 3D style we've been seeing a lot of from Netflix's anime, and I really like that. I watched this first before realizing there was a manga that was COMPLETELY different from the movie. But that's not bad actually. The movie does a better job of getting you into the universe of Blame! then the actual manga, because boy lemme tell ya, hehe, that shit is confusing as fuck.
The premise of the movie is that, in a large, self-replicating artificial city, a neo-technological nomadic tribe finds a lone wanderer named Killy, who has a mission to save the last remnants of humanity, and they aid him in his journey. Pretty simple, yeah?
The manga is NOT simple.
Killy's still there and he's still on a mission to save the last bits of humanity, but his journey is a lot more...complicated, than in the movie. Also, the movie is a lot more sci-fi, while the manga is sci-fi horror. And damn does it do a good job at horror. I mean, the idea of technology taking over the entire Earth, becoming self-aware, and killing off humans is scary enough, what with all the isolation and loneliness and petrifying vastness. But then the technology becomes this all sentient network and there's no more natural stuff anymore. It's just metal and wires and electricity, BUT, also still alive like a human body. Like...the artificial stuff can sorta...become flesh and meat somehow??? It's disgusting but super fuckin cool. And there's all kinds of things like cyborgs, giant machines, evolved humans, time paradoxes, multiple dimensions, transcendence of the human mind through computers--a bunch of stuff.
I recommend the movie FIRST, before getting into the manga. The manga doesn't have a lot of dialogue and mainly focuses on the structure and landscape of this giant artificial city that took over the Earth. It still does a miraculous job of story telling though, just with the environments. Also, the manga is, like I said, REALLY CONFUSING and I'm still trying to figure it out. Nonetheless, I admire it so much and it would have to be my favorite manga in a while.
Boy, this one was long.
Next is:
My Hero Academia
Oh boOOOY HAVE I GOT STUFF TO SAY FOR THIS ONE.
Where do I begin???
Let's see, uh: Deku is adorable; I will protect Deku with my life; Deku is literally the best boy.
D E K U
Nah, but a lot of the characters in this series are lovable in their own way. There are so many, but the Class A kids are just the best cast of variety throughout the show.
Again, animation is phenomenal. Its colors really stand out when it comes to fight scenes and it makes me happy to see that the animation stays very close to the manga scenes (ex: Todoroki vs. Deku—WHICH BY THE WAY IS THE BEST GOD DAMN FIGHT SCENE IVE EVER HAD THE PLEASURE OF WATCHING).
I recall one video explaining how the story and dilemma in the show revolves around Deku, in some way, which makes him the most easy to understand and lovable character right off the bat, because you want to see him succeed and become a hero. That's good! The show is almost generic in some cases but it makes it work. And no matter what, you're always going to root for Deku. Yeah, he's got his flaws and he makes mistakes, but he's a hard workin' boy that you can't help but cheer on, and that's a magical thing that the show has done.
Not only that, but the character development is AMAZING. I mostly say this in regards to Todoroki. He was a cold, quiet guy who no one really regarded in the first season, who wasn't a friend to Deku at all. Then in the second season he got to have spotlight and that baby shINED. He became good buddies with my boi, Deku, his outlook on his hero career and on life changed for the better, he's a stronger person mentally. His backstory, personality, and development all make him another lovable character that you wish to succeed.
Along with character development, the series really has an amazing way of portraying the characters' aspects in a way that isn't straightforward. For example, Bakugo. At first, I thought he was too aggressive and brash, and at times thought he'd be a perfect villain. But in actuality, he isn't as gung-ho and reckless as his shouting and scowling makes him out to be. When he's not hellbent on trying to ANNIHILATE Deku as competition, he's a smart and strategic character. He's not a hothead; he calculates and uses tactics. He wouldn't be in UA if he only relied on brute force alone. That being said, Bakugo is also bestboy.
The best boy trio: Deku, Todoroki, and Bakugo.
I love them. I love EVERYONE in that show.
There has been no other show to evoke such strong feelings of amazement, sadness, anger, and surprise in me since Attack on Titan S1. Like, I was LITERALLY cheering for the characters, like in the fight between Nomu and All Might. I was crying and cheering and clapping my hands and—UGH.
I felt like a kid again! And I love that about this show. It's like watching those Saturday morning cartoons of heroes and gawking at them in awe, wanting to be like them, to be strong, and resilient, and kind, and impactful. This show makes me feel that childhood thrill like no other, makes me so hyped up to become strong and go beyond whatever may limit me. And that's why My Hero Academia will be an absolute favorite of mine for many, many years to come. It's left an imprint on me that I hold dear. It's taught me things, like how being a hero—being good—isn't just about the reward and fame. It's about making a difference, even if it's small, because it matters to someone out there in this great big world of ours. I swear, every time I hear Go Beyond; Plus Ultra, I always recite along with it.
In short, I. Fucking. Love. My. Hero. Academia.
And I HIGHLY suggest you watch it if you have not. It's worth every damn second.
•••
Anyway, that's about it for my favorite anime. Let me know what you think about the ones I listed, or recommend me some other shows to check out and potentially devote my life to, lol.
Thanks for reading! Wish you all well!
See ya!
