Lets Hurt Tonight

I didn't go to school the next couple days.

Cam believed it wouldn't hurt my perfect record, and even though I thought otherwise, I couldn't force myself to go.

I had a terrible headache on Tuesday and couldn't force myself out of bed on Wednesday. Mom questioned if I was okay a few times, but I only nodded and forced her to turn off the light again.

Whatever was wrong had hit me like a freight train, crushing me into the ground until Wednesday night.

Cam climbed through my balcony around five, carrying a tub of ice cream in one hand and a bag of take out in the other.

"You look better." He commented, setting the stuff down on my comforter so he could kick off his shoes.

"I feel better." I replied, my eyes focusing in on the tub of ice cream a few feet away.

"This whole ditching school thing will work great for your whole "bad girl" reputation." I rolled my eyes as he took one of the Chinese take out boxes and set it in my hands, laying a fork on top of it.

"You're favorite, My Lady." He joked. I smiled and peeled the lid off, stabbing my fork into the food without looking back up.

"Blake, are you okay?" He reached over and pushed a strand of my greasy hair out of my eyes.

"Yeah, Cam." I responded, my eyes everywhere but his, "I'm great."

We had just pulled into the hospital parking lot when my phone went off in the cup holder, echoing through the silent car. I reached for it, ready to ignore the call when I caught the caller ID.

"Who is it?" Cam questioned, nosing his way over to see. I shook my head and answered the phone, my eyes narrowed at that dashboard.

"Hello?"

"Hey, is this Blake?" I could feel my eyebrows draw together at the unfamiliar voice.

"Yes, this is her. Can I ask who's calling?" I replied, seeing Cam arch an eyebrow out of the corner of my eye. I only shrugged in response.

"I know this is going to sound incredibly odd, and I hope you don't hang up and think I'm a crazy, but my name is Brianna Felcon and. . . and I'm your sister." The phone almost slipped from my sweaty palm, my lips parting as I stared into the stark black woods ahead.

"Hello? Are you still there?" Brianna's voice was muffled this time.

"Yes." I choked out, "I. . . why are you calling me?" She had years to call me, had years to come over and introduce herself if she had known about everything.

Why didn't she?

"Okay, so I'm going to be in town on Monday for a business trip and I'd love to meet you if it's possible." Something twisted in the pit of my stomach.

"How'd you even get my number?"

"Dad gave it to me." She sounded taken back by the shakiness of my voice, "Is that a problem? I thought that you wanted to talk to me."

My heart was the only thing I could hear, the sound of her voice, the quiet purr of the car, Cam's whispering, I couldn't hear any of it. Everything sounded miles away, through a tunnel.

Cam reached over a few seconds later and pried the phone from my grip, bring it to his own ear. He frowned, nodded, said something my heartbeat drowned out, then slipped the phone into the front pocket of my purse.

"Blake." I saw his mouth form my name, but couldn't hear him. He reached over and touched my cheek, a worried crease appearing on his forehead.

We sat there in the car until my heart fell back into it's normal rhythm and the sounds around me began to overwhelm me again.

"Blake, baby, hey." Cam shook his head, his lips pursed, "It's okay. I told her you'd call back when you were ready." I let out a shaky sigh and reached for the door handle.

"Can we just go in? I don't want to talk about it right now, Cam. Please." He hesitated for a second, throwing me a couple worried glances before he nodded.

"Of course, let's go."

*

I stepped into my quiet bedroom as silent as possible, cursing the creaky floorboards beneath me.

Cam had come in through the balcony, claiming he'd wake Mom up if he came in any other way. I was positive he just liked acting like an animal and swinging from trees.

He shut my balcony doors and locked them once he was in, grunting as he stretched his arms behind his head.

"I don't know about you, but I'm exhausted." He threw himself back on my bed, turning his head so he was grinning up at me. I tried my best at a smile, but I didn't have enough energy to force it.

"Hey, no crying around here." Cam tugged on my hand and pulled me down beside him, laughing. Any other time I would have laughed at his obnoxious laugh, and we'd sit and laugh together like idiots.

I just couldn't seem to find it in me to laugh right now. Not when my sister had just called me and one of my best friend's was in the hospital.

"Smile." Cam whispered, starting to take in my mood, "Or I'll make you." I felt one of my eyebrows shoot up.

"How are you gonna do that?" He wrapped his arms around my waist and moved me so I was on the bed, positioning his body so it was hovering over mine.

"I am going to tickle you." He breathed into my ear, "And you're going to laugh."

His demand came true the second his hands came in contact with my sides, sending me into an uncontrollable fit of laughter that I was afraid would wake up my mother.

I turned my head away, knowing that if I stared into his eyes it would only bring on more laughter. But the second I turned away, I felt his lips fall against my neck, causing my laugh to die down.

"Cam?" I whispered, my nails digging into his shoulder, "What are you doing?" He lifted his head, brown eyes wide as he stared down at me pinned beneath him.

"I couldn't resist." He leaned down and kissed me, "This position probably wasn't the best idea."

I smiled a little, my hands traveling down to the bottom of his shirt. I felt him stiffen on top of me, his eyes flashing with confusion.

"What are you doing?" I pushed myself off the bed and kissed him, pulling his shirt up until he got the message and discarded it on to the floor beside us.

"I love you." I said, my hands tangled in his mess of brown hair. He nodded, resting his forehead against mine.

"I know." His voice sounded strained, "And I'll always love you, Blake."

***AN***

Kind of a nowhere chapter. Just something to go between the last and the next.

What do you guys think is wrong with Blake?

Let me know what you thought!
