Chapter 1
"Hello, this is Britt Sadowski." I answered the phone call from an unknown number, though it did seem familiar for some reason.
"Yes. We reviewed your application for an apartment here on campus at Belmont and you are in." The secretary on the other end of the line said with a smiling voice.
"Thank you." I replied in the calmest manner that I could manage. A few details were discussed and we hung up. The very instant I clicked the "end call" button, I let out a loud squealing scream. Maybe not a response that would be expected of a twenty four year old freshly college freshman, but this was so amazing.
I ran downstairs and was met by my grandmother, Noni Sadowski, who raised me. "Noni! I'm in!" I grabbed her and hugged her tightly.
"That's great baby girl!!" Noni's hazel eyes were filled with tears.
"Noni? Is everything okay?" I asked, suddenly worried.
"It's fine." She sat down at the dining table and tapped a manila envelope with my name on it. "Things have been changing a lot for you late, Britt girl." She gave me a slow, yet sad smile.
"Yes. I finally applied to Belmont and I got into the Master of Music program. I'm going to miss Pennsylvania a little though." I could nearly bust, my dreams were finally coming into the light and taking flight.
"Um hum." Noni murmured, quietly. She stroked the envelope. "But there's more about your life that you should know, Britt."
"I don't see what it could possibly be." I replied, light heartedly. Trying, hoping, and praying to make Noni smile again.
"I've been praying about this a lot lately. God revealed it to me, that now is the right time. It's time you knew the facts." Noni said with a straight face, as she slid the mysterious envelope across the table.
I carefully opened the envelope and took out the papers inside. As I read I felt faint. All this time, I've been living a lie?
