The Arrival

Cedric and Krystal had officially become a couple, and there wasn't a person at Hogwarts that didn't know about them, including Cho Chang.

Krystal knew dating him was a bad move, and She knew She would have to somehow right things into their proper order eventually, but she just couldn't deny her very real feelings for Cedric.

October finally came and November would arrive soon, the student body had seemed to forget about the upcoming tournament but Krystal excitedly waited every night at dinner.

This morning however everything on her mind was put on the back burner as she got an owl over breakfast.

"I got an owl." Krystal exclaimed happily.

"Yeah, so did I." Angelina teased.

"Yeah but I NEVER get mail." Krystal said as she opened the scroll.

It was a few pieces of parchment and each one had drawings of beautiful dress concepts.

Krystal looked them over quickly before she rolled the parchment pages back up and tucked them into her books. She offered the owl some of her water and a few pieces of her toast before it flew off.

Classes went by as usual and all Krystal could think about were her and Cedric, and come Christmas time, the actual Yule Ball.

She thought of how handsome Cedric would look in his formal dress robes and she imagined the two of them dancing the night away. Then she shook the thought from her head sadly.

She couldn't go to the Yule ball with Cedric, she would have to go with someone who isn't mentioned in the book.

But more importantly, how would that even happen if Cedric and her were still dating?

Krystal let out a deep sigh and walked to the library, she found Harry and the gang all in there, she assumed it had something to do with Hermione's S.P.E.W organization.

She found an empty table and set out to get some of her assignments done, then Cedric entered the library.

She slinked into the chair, almost trying to hide from him.

But of course he spotted her, "hey." He sounded with his amazing smile on full display, he kissed her cheek then took a seat next to her.

He talked about classes, Hufflepuff drama, prefect duties, and all sorts of other random things when Krystal slammed my book shut.

He went silent and looked at her (as did a few onlookers), it was now or never, she hoped he wouldn't hate her.

"I'm sorry Cedric but I just can't do this anymore."

He looked stunned and stumble over his words for an explanation.

Krystal sat up straight and took his hands into hers. "I like you, more than I should to be honest. But right now I really really need to focus on school." She said using the first thing that came to mind.

He didn't know what to say now.

"School's tough as it is, then add in the fact that I'm hundreds of miles away from my family, plus I don't just have regular classes but I also have a ton of catch-up classes to take as well. I'm totally swamped with work, and I am stretching myself thin between my friends and you."

He looked her dead in my eye, he looked crushed.

"So it's over?" He asked confused over his girlfriend's sudden outburst.

Krystal nodded.

"Just like that?" He questioned.

She nodded once more.

"Krystal, I just don't understand you, this morning we were snogging by the Quidditch field and now you've done a complete 180 and you want to call it off between us?" He ranted.

More onlookers had turned to watch the popular Cedric Diggory get dumped by the curious new girl.

She got up and gathered my things. "I'm sorry Cedric, it wouldn't be fair to you right now if I kept dragging this relationship along."

He grabbed her hand as she began walking away.

"I love you." He whispered.

Tears fell down her cheeks, it was the first time he had ever said it to her. She turned and looked at him. "I love you too" she admitted "...and that's why we can't be together."

His face grew confused and she took her chance and walked away. As Krystal walked through the library she could feel the judgmental eyes on her, hear the gossip already being spread behind her back.

Krystal knew she had just become the most hated person of Hogwarts.

News of hers and Cedric's breakup spread like wildfire and by the time dinner rolled around, it was all anyone could talk about.

Boys whistled or tried to ask her out, as if she would just jump into the arms of another guy after she had only been single for hours. Girls gave her dirty looks, they hated that she hurt such a sweet guy like Cedric and worse, they thought Krystal wanted their men instead.

"There she is," a sixth year Slytherin girl said as Krystal tried to get passed them. "That's the American who broke poor Cedi's heart." She nearly spat with distaste.

"You lot should be thanking her instead of harassing her." Alicia said as she tucked her arm into Krystal's.

"Yeah" Angela offered, "now he's single and probably looking for someone to help him cope."

The girls gasped at the new revelation. It never occurred to them that Cedric might need a little TLC from another girl.

They entered the great hall and a wave of whispers suddenly broke out, Alicia and Angela ushered krystal to their usual seats with Katie.

"Tough luck on the break up Krys." Katie said.

Krystal nodded and her eyes watered.

"Oh no, damn it, I didn't mean to make you cry." Katie said trying to comfort her.

The sudden realization hit her. "I love him and, and I just let him go." She said.

Her first kiss, her first boyfriend, her first love.

The girls tried to comfort Krystal, she looked up and saw Cedric standing up, his face full of concern as he looked straight at her. He seemed like he wanted to rush over and console Krystal but that's when Dumbledore stood to make his usual pre dinner announcements.

"Would everyone please follow your head of house out to the front of the school." He instructed.

Krystal sighed, for the first time since arriving here she had forgotten all about the TriWizarding Tournament, and of all the nights, it was finally happening.

Professor McGonagall arranged everyone in Gryffindor all into a line. "First years up here please." She said.

Once they all got out to the front of the castle everyone looked around, Krystal immediately looked up in the sky, she smiled as she saw it, in the book it states a fifth year sees it and points it out but never mentions them by name, so Krystal said it.

"There!" She said pointing over the forest.

Student argued over what it could be until finally everyone could see the gigantic powder blue, horse-drawn carriage come soaring towards them. A dozen winged palominos, each the size of elephants pulling it to a halt.

A boy in pale blue robes jumped down from the carriage and open the door and revealed the glamorous Madam Maxim.

Dumbledore greeted her warmly and then she introduced her chosen pupils.

They spoke more and then she and her students retreated inside, the boys of Durmstrang would be next.

Not soon after a loud eerie sound drifted toward them, Krystal placed her eyes on the lake and this time it was Lee Jordan who pointed out the new guest. "Look at the lake!"

Great bubbles formed in the normally smooth lake as a mast began to emerge, slowly the magnificent ship rose out of the water.

The anchor was thrown down in the shallows then a wooden plank was lowered into the muddy banks.

People made their way from the ship to land all wearing thick cloaks with fur lining.

The eccentricity loud headmaster Karkaroff said his hellos and Dumbledore welcomed them to the school.

Krystal looked to her left and found Cedric, he gave her a small smile then turned his gaze back to the boys of Durmstrang.

That's when Karkaroff beckoned Krum.

From the books Krystal knew Viktor Krum as a professional athlete, but seeing him here it was so much more.

He is tall, muscular and athletic, his eyes are focused and unfortunately he seems like a man compared to the others who would be in the Tri-Wizarding Tournament.

Krystal looked at him an then at Cedric. Cedric had caught her looking at Krum. Cedric's eyebrows drew together and he shot looks of hatred in Krum's direction, Cedric had felt that Krystal was checking him out.

'Oh great' Krystal groaned internally she was pretty sure she had just started a new rivalry, one that was definitely not in the books.
