So It Begins- Chapter 8
Kiti Pov~
The days flew by, and before I knew it it was the day before the Spring Tournament. Coach just dismissing us when Sensei broke in "Wait! Before you go, there's one more comment. It's from Kiyoko" He says gesturing to Kiyoko.
She looked down "I'm not very good with words but I want to show you something" She turned to Sensei "Will you help me Sir?" He nodded "Sure" They climb the ladder with some black fabric.
They straighten it out then flip it over the side of the railing. On it in big letters is the word 'FLY" the whole team 'Ohhhhh's and look up at it with twinkling eyes. "We have a banner?" Someone says.
"I found it while I was cleaning up so I washed it" Tanaka and Noya got all fired up, but Daichi silenced them, "It looks like she has something to say" He says looking up at Kiyoko. She blushes a bit and says "You- You can do it".
The Second and Third years burst out in tears while the rest of the first year looked at their upperclassman, confused, but nonetheless were inspired by Kiyoko's words. I stood there and silently clapped smiling at her. I knew that was a big leap for her. I was kinda proud in a mom kind of way.
Daichi gave the team a quick pep-talk and the team dispersed. Me and Kei walked home, as soon as I got there I ate a banana to help me sleep, the melatonin in it does that. I'm kinda chemistry nerd. I knew that it would be hard to sleep considering the tournament is tomorrow.
I woke up the next morning energized. I got out of bed and changed. I then barraged into Kei's room and shouted "WAKE UP SLEEPY HEAD!!" It obviously startled him, as a result he glared at me and threw a pillow at me.
I caught the pillow and threw it back, leaving before he could throw it again. I made us both cereal and handed his as came out dressed, "Your so annoying," He yawns "I wonder who I get it from," I snicker. He rolls his eyes and we eat our breakfast and walked to school to wait at for the bus.
About a minute later Hinata and Kageyama came racing over, "I win!" Kageyama shouted. They had an argument while Kei and I snickered at their idiotry. They both walked up the stairs and were startled to see us their "Looks like neither of you won, huh" I said, tipping my head a little instead of turning. They both glared and walked over to wait with us.
A bit later the rest of the team showed up and unlocked the door. Daichi approached me, "Coach wanted me to give this to you after he forgot to yesterday" he said handing me something. The rest of the team looked at me and watched as unfolded it.
It was just like the rest of the boys, except it had a zero on the front of it. If I remember correctly zero's were very uncommon in volleyball for some reason. I looked at it, a smile faintly slipping onto my face, "Thanks," I bowed and slipped it in my bag as we all walked out to the bus.
The team were waiting where the bus would show up when coach and Sensei arrived. I walked over to coach and thanked him for the jersey, "No problem, you are a member of the team right," he smiled, I nodded and entered the bus as it arrived.
The ride was pretty quick and as we were walking in I heard a some guys talking about how Karasuno were wingless crows and basically downgrading us. And irk mark appeared on my forehead as we stopped.
"What did you just say!? Wingless crows!? Well-" Tanaka said, only to be cut off by being grabbed by Daichi "Cut it out now! I'm really sorry." He apologized, "Do I need to get you a leash," he muttered to Tanaka while walking away. Kei and I just snickered.
As we walked in someone started to talk about Asahi and all of a sudden he was mopping, "Oh boy here it goes again," Says Suga "It's hard to avoid that with your looks" Daichi adds on. Asahi shrugs oddly "W-w-what's wrong with me wanting to look all tough and wild" He says. Noya walks up laughing "What's the bug deal dude, nobody cares about how you look"
Suga and Daichi pat Noya on the shoulder "This is what wild looks like" Noya looked at them confused, but shrugs. As were walking I hear whispers. Upon further eavesdropping, I came to the conclusion that they were talking about Kiyoko. Tanaka and Noya must've heard too because they started glaring menacing at the commentators and circling Kiyoko. Kiyoko lifted the clipboards in her hands and slapped them on the heads, stopping them from their antics. They starting wiggling as she walks away, "She just hit me!~" They exclaimed in unison. I roll my eyes.
As we continue on I zone out. I could hear the people talking, and I heard a few of our names mentioned here and there, some comments about Kiyoko as well as me. I payed no mind though. That doesn't go for Kei though. Whenever he heard a comment about me, he whipped his head in the direction and glared at whoever spoke.
We stopped and I looked up. There was a large group of guys, another team, standing in front of us. One of them, the tallest with white hair and- no eyebrows?- pointed at us. I followed his finger and saw he was specifically pointing at Asahi. Poor guy. I though to myself, watching Asahi shiver under the tall boy's harsh glare.
My phone buzzed and I looked down at it. It was a text from Kuroo.
Heyoooo, you start your Inter-High Prelims today right?
No this is the finals
...
Yes it's the Inter-High Prelims
Well duh, anyways watcha doin~
Standing
Wow, can you at least try to make conversation?
I don't know, can I?
I-
Your impossible
Thanks
Whatever, tell me if you win, yeah?
Yeah sure, talk to you later
I close my phone, looking up as the group started moving. I heard another ping and pulled out my phone.
Good luck
I smiled faintly, tucking it back away. He look over at Kei, who's glaring at me with skeptical eyes, "What?" I ask. He looks away shaking his head, "Nothing," he grunted. I shrugged and paid him no mind.
We walk into the gym and Hinata immediately starts ranting about Air Solanpas, and I roll my eyes. I go up with Kiyoko to hang up our banner. I was going out sit out this game. I wanted to conserve my energy, as well as a secret weapon. I also kinda wanted to watch this game since it would be the first match I've seen in person in a long time.
I looked down game and smiled as Yacchi sat down next to me. I hadn't talked to her much. Maybe not at all now that I thought about it, but I was sure I had her in one of my classes. She had joined not long after me. I never really paid her much mind, but as I talked to her before the game I realized she was a really nice girl. She blushed a little about how she was nervous to approach me. I mean, can you blame her? I'm about 6'3 and have to look down to see her.
I told her not to mind and turned my attention to the game as I heard a whistle. Coach wasn't wrong when he said this was a small time team. You could figure that out just by looking at them. Their guys were pretty short and scrawny, and after watching them practice a little, you could tell they weren't exactly the strongest.
I turned my attention to a couple of guys who had just walked over. They were tall, neither as tall as me, but fairly tall. One seemed to be about 6 foot, curly brown hair and matching eyes, the other, roughly 5'10, dark spiky hair and thin eyes. Looking at their track jackets I noticed they were both from Aoba Johsai, or Seijoh.
I snickered lightly, remembering what the team had told me about them and how they miraculously beat them in a practice match. It seemed to catch their attention, as they turned towards me. Noticing I snickered more, "Seijoh, huh? Heard we beat you in a practice match not so long along," I smirked.
The taller one irks slightly, "Only by sheer luck," I laughed, "Even so, thought you guys were supposed to be really good. Not only did you get beat but you got beat by and nobody team," The shorter on looked at my track jacket, "Isn't that kind of talking bad about yourself, assuming that you are a manager," He says. I pursed my lips, blocking my laughter.
"Yeah, manager," I thought for a moment, smirking, "Of a sort," They looked perplexed, "What's that supposed to mean?" Again, the shorter one, I sighed, "Nothing, don't worry about it," They looked at each other shrugging before looking back at the match.
The game went on pretty quick, you could tell Noya was really into it receiving almost every ball. But then again if you looked at the rest of the team they were also very into it. I almost wanted to laugh, knowing these guys and seeing them be all serious is a really big gap. But then again, whenever they get serious in practice, they do kinda get into it.
I looked over at the match next to ours. I noticed the players as the ones we has run into before I got distracted by Kuroo. I squinted. Date Tech. I though to myself after a few seconds of squinting. From only a few seconds of watching I could tell they had really strong blocking. That might be a problem.
I watched their match for a bit longer before looking back at our match. It was a really quick game, before I knew it, it was the end of the first set, the middle of the second set, and then the end of the match.
I walked downstairs with Yacchi to meet the boys. "Great game guys," I smiled, congratulating them. They thanked me and I turned to Kageyama and Hinata, "You guys have some fans now. And everyone was talking about your freak quick and how high you can jump Hinata," Kageyama nodded and thanked me while Hinata smiled and jumped around shouting about how awesome it was. Kageyama soon started yelling at him and they started an argument. Leave it to them to get into a argument right after a match, that they won.
Daichi looked around, "Everyone eat a light lunch, our next match starts soon" Noya stood up, "Who do we play next?" Everyone looked at me. I stood up and sighed "Date Tech won their first game, so we'll be playing them" The third and second years looked down grimly.
I smiled, "Don't worry about it! I watched their game for a bit and picked up some things about them that might help," They all looked up shocked and happy, "Woooohooo! Kiti-Chan your so cool!" I laughed and signaled for everyone to gather around.
I started to explain how they work, I told the spikers how they block, and how to try and avoid, though it would be a pain. I told the blockers how they spike and how their setter looks when he's going to set somewhere, so that they can get there in time. And I told receivers, Noya mainly, that he might want to take a step back and get just a tad lower to get the perfect receive. They all thanked me and I looked at the clock to see that we should probably head over to start warming up.
I had changed before the game so that I didn't have to change infront of anyone. We walked onto the court to see Date Tech just setting their things down to start warm ups. The boys starting to warm up, while Kiyoko and I did our secret little routine, passing back and forth, I pretended to lazily spike the ball down, even though it wasn't never lazy, and then I bumped the ball walking around a little.
Coach walked over to me, "I am going to have you start, hopefully it will throw them off their game," I looked over to where two guys on the other team were talking to each other throwing glances at me "Hopefully it already did".
I help the boys out a little and then the game started. I sighed and took off my managers jacket and walked onto the court with Daichi, Hinata, Kageyama, Asahi, and Tanaka. I turned to see that Date Tech was still in huddle. Boy were they in for a surprise.
As they walked out of the huddle, their tallest guy, or no-brows as Hinata calls him, was the first to notice me. They noticed and looked at who would stop him in his tracks, that's when they all locked eyes with me in shock.
"What the hell! That girl can't be playing right?" "What is going on" "That can't be right" I smirked at their questions. The crowd was going wild at it too, which really pumped me up. This is where everything starts for me. This is where it begins.
Hehehe. That's better Bo. Just like that. Anyways, sorry it took so long! It might be awhile before I post again, I kinda fell out of it for a bit and am going to try and do another chapter tomorrow! Thank you for reading and I hope you enjoyed!
