CHAPTER TWELVE

CHAPTER 12: STOP THE WORLD TO STOP THE FEELING

💠 JUST FRIENDS 💠
THIRD PERSON POV

There he was, dancing away in the night, guided by the pulsating rhythm of the beats that exploded through the speakers. How did he end up like this? Deep down he knew. It all started when he joined a random group of strangers who seemed to be friends and having the time of their lives. They invited him and one drink turned to two, then four and then six and well, he stopped counting. Here he was, being cheered by his new "friends" as he danced. He didn't know their names nor did he care about what they looked like, that didn't matter. All he craved was freedom from the suffocating pain and depression. Just one fleeting moment of release. Was that too much to ask for?

As Vincent swayed to the music, he felt the urge to use the bathroom. He excused himself from the group, but his drunken stumble caught him off guard. Before he knew it, he collided with a figure, sending a glass of red wine flying onto their snowy white jacket.

The victim's eyes locked onto the stain, their face contorting in dismay. Vincent's hand flew to his mouth, his eyes wide with mortification.

"Oh, God, I'm so sorry!" he slurred, his words tumbling out.

As he looked up, he met the gaze of a boy around his age, dressed to impress in an all-white ensemble. A glittering neckpiece added a touch of sophistication, now marred by the crimson splotch.

"Seriously?" the boy snapped, frustration etched on his face. "Can't handle your liquor? Get a fucking backup human to help you."

Vincent felt his cheeks flush with embarrassment. The boy's anger was palpable, but beneath it, he sensed disappointment and frustration.

"Let it go," a deep voice rumbled from behind the boy.

The victim turned to face a towering figure, his broad shoulders and imposing stature commanding attention. Yet, his gentle tone and soothing expression belied his intimidating physique.

Vincent's gaze shifted between the two boys, struck by their breathtaking beauty. Their chiseled features, flawless skin, and synchronized heights left him mesmerized.

"But it's couture," the boy in white protested, his voice laced with distress. "I can't just let it go, I'm not Elsa."

"Babe, it's fine," his companion intervened, cradling his face in his hands. "I'll handle it tomorrow. Tonight, let's just enjoy ourselves. That's what matters."

Vincent witnessed a silent understanding pass between them. The boy in white exhaled, resignation softening his features.

"Okay, if you say so," he conceded, forcing a radiant smile.

Vincent slurred, "You could've moved out of the way, though."

The boy's gaze snapped back to Vincent, his eyes narrowing. "Care to repeat that?" he asked, his tone low and even.

Vincent, emboldened by the liquor coursing through his veins, stood his ground. "You heard me just fine."

A cold smile spread across the boy's face as he took a deliberate step closer. "I did," he said, his voice dripping with malice. "I was giving you the opportunity to retract your statement...to save face."

Vincent's words tumbled out. "You could've avoided bumping into me."

The stranger's smile was laced with sarcasm. "You were a human wrecking ball, a train-wreck waiting to happen, so no. I couldn't avoid you."

Vincent felt the boy's intimidating aura wash over him, making his skin prickle. The way he talked, his piercing stare and sharp tone made him shrink. Everything about him. But the alcohol coursing through his veins gave him a false sense of courage.

Vincent slurred, "Who wears white to a...club like this? Asking for trouble."

The boy's gaze swept Vincent from head to toe, disdain etched on his face. "And you think your getup is better? You'd rather I look like a struggling single teenage dad who is about to commit murder suicide?"

Vincent's laughter faltered as the boy's words struck a nerve. "Hey, that's not fair..."

The boy raised an eyebrow. "You're the one mocking my outfit when you look like you're on the verge of a midlife crisis."

Vincent's face burned with embarrassment.

The boy's partner intervened, "Babe, he's drunk. Let's not let him ruin our night." He eyed Vincent. "You look underage, should you be in here?"

Vincent protested, "I'm...old enough."

The stranger on white chuckled condescendingly. "Save it, sweetheart. Let's get out of here, babe, before things escalate and I end up losing my temper over some attention-seeking mess who can't get his shit together."

As they turned to leave, Vincent felt a sting from the boy's words. His drunken bravado deflated, replaced by insecurity.

Vincent's pain simmered, it was fueled by the night's humiliations. It wasn't just about the boy's words even though it pushed him, it was more about Xavier and his lapdogs. And the boy's belittling words became the final straw.

Vincent strode back to his new friends, snatched a drink, and marched toward the boy who had belittled him. With a deliberate motion, he hurled the drink at the couple.

The room gasped as liquid splashed across their outfits.

"Don't speak to me like I'm some lowlife," Vincent declared, voice shaking. "I am a human being."

The boy's face twisted in rage, his eyes blazing with fury. He charged towards Vincent, his movements swift and menacing. Vincent steeled himself for the impact, but nothing could have prepared him for the force of the slap.

Vincent's head snapped back, his body crumpling to the ground. The slap seared his skin, leaving a stinging sensation that seemed to reverberate through his entire being. He had never experienced pain like this before – it was as if he had glimpsed the divine, only to be left reeling.

Vincent's vision blurred, his ears ringing from the force of the blow. He saw the boy's hand rising again, poised to strike, and for a moment, Vincent wondered if he deserved it.

Suddenly, a hand clamped onto the boy's wrist, halting his motion. The boy glared at who had stopped him to see an unfamiliar face, but Vincent recognized the face.

Tae.

Katherine rushed to Vincent's side, helping him up. "Jesus. You okay?" she asked, concern etched on her face.

Vincent nodded, still shaken.

Tae's grip on the stranger's hand tightened. "Don't hit him." He warned, his voice low and even.

The stranger's eyes flashed with indignation, but before he could retort, his hand was wrenched free from Tae's grasp.

A firm hand closed around Tae's wrist, pulling him closer. He faced a towering figure with piercing green eyes.

"Don't touch him." The stranger growled, his voice dripping with menace.

Tae's hand was released, but the warning lingered, echoing through the air.

The boy in white gestured to their stained outfits. "Listen here Zoro and Catwoman. Your sad friend's been ridiculously disrespectful. Keep him in check, lest he finds trouble in the wrong place."

Katherine stepped forward, her voice sharp. "And you think hitting him was smart? He's clearly intoxicated."

The boy smirked. "It seemed to reset his brain for a moment, didn't it?"

Tae looked at the drunk Vincent, "I apologize. He's had too much to drink."

His partner shot him a warning glance. "We'll get out of this mess now, keep him at a distance."

Katherine sneered, "You think you're some big shot, huh? I could have you begging by tomorrow."

The boy in white erupted into laughter, his eyes sparkling with amusement. "Wow girl, nice one. My heart is racing."

"Katherine, let it go." Tae said.

"Dyl," The man called to his partner who paid him no mind.

"You clearly don't know me," the boy said, his gaze piercing as he locked eyes with the girl. "I'd sooner torch my entire wardrobe...no, I'd rather take a drastic leap like Hannah Baker than grovel at the feet of a spoiled, high-maintenance girl who's never known a life outside her daddy's wallet."

He rolled his eyes, then turned to Vincent, his gaze intense. Vincent felt a shiver run down his spine as the boy's eyes scrutinized him.

"You are one reason away from slitting your wrists and I won't be that thirteenth reason." The boy said. "Your life may be shit, but drowning in booze and seeking trouble isn't the answer, kid," the boy's voice was firm but laced with empathy. "Find another way to handle your shit."

Vincent remained silent, his eyes locked onto the stranger. He knew exactly what the stranger meant. The craving for physical pain to numb the voices in his head, the ache in his heart.

The boy's gaze lingered on Vincent before shifting to Tae. "Nice outfit." He smiled. "You know you three remind me of something so familiar, I can't place my finger on it."

As he turned to leave, his partner, sighed. "Come on, Dylan, let's go."

Dylan allowed himself to be pulled away, but his curiosity remained. "Henry, what is it about them? They seem....very familiar."

"We do not want to make the headline on the news here, Dyl." Henry said as they disappeared into the crowd.

"What are you doing here?" Katherine asked Vincent. "How long have you been here? We've been calling and texting you and—"

"Are you okay?" Tae interjected, sensing the boy was on the verge of a breakdown.

Vincent gazed at Tae and nodded, moving away from them. "I'm fine! You don't have to worry, go have fun." He said and turned to go but Tae spun him around.

"You're clearly very drunk."

"And why is that your business?" Vincent snapped back. "I am fine." He said, putting his arm back. "I am fine. I don't need you two always fighting my battles for me. I am fine and I can handle myself and my own liquor." He slurred, pointing at them.

"You're clearly doing a terrible job." Katherine said to which he glared at her.

"Fuck you." He pointed at her and then looked at Tae with teary eyes. "And fuck you too." He pointed at him. "I want you both to leave me alone or else, you'll get into trouble because of me and I don't want that. I'd rather take my pain by myself." He said, his eyes welling up.

Tae and Katherine looked at each other, they felt this had to be more than what had happened. Vincent suddenly leaned and threw up on TAE's shoes. Katherine swiftly moved away to avoid any of that getting on her body.

"Oh God." Katherine's face had clear disgust in it.

"Vincent, ewww." Tae grimaced.

"I'm so sowwy," he wiped his mouth with the back of his hand. "I didn't mean to do that, I just felt very...."

"Okay!" Katherine cut in. "Let's get you both to the bathroom."

♦️ VINCENT's POV ♦️

I  woke up with a headache, it hurt so much and I hissed in discomfort as I sat up from the bed. I slowly opened my tired eyes, scrunching my face from the pounding headache. Once I took in the scenery, I realized this wasn't my room, it wasn't a room in my house but it was a very familiar place. I couldn't think right now, so I looked over at the dresser to see two pills on a note and a glass of water being covered. I looked at the note and read it:  Drink this when you wake up and take a shower, clothes in the wardrobe.

I did as instructed and swallowed the pills before getting up from the bed and walking straight to the bathroom, there was a new soap, toothbrush, a toothpaste and a new sponge. I needed to scrub the stench of alcohol coming out of my body.

I marched out of the familiar room once I had changed, and making my way to the living room. Tae, Katherine and Tony were all at the counter, drinking from a cup and talking about something. I wanted to hide away, unsure of how much chaos I had caused last night and why exactly I was with them and not with Victor.

Suddenly, Tony's eyes met mine. "Ah, sleeping beauty is awake." He said with a smile.

The other turned behind to look at me and I forced a small smile on my face. "Hi," I said as I strolled over to them.

"Hey, Pitch perfect." Katherine greeted.

I frowned, unsure as to why she had called me that but I didn't ask. "How do you feel?" Tae asked, crossing his legs.

"Like I was on the titanic." I muttered in response and sat beside him.

"Do you drink coffee?" Tony asked.

"I could use that." I murmured.

"We do not have all day, we got to be in school in ten minutes, I don't know how we are gonna so it but we gotta move now." Katherine said.

"School? Wait, my bag and things aren't with me." I said, confused.

"Called Victor, Alfred went to pick it up this morning from your brother, it's in the car." Tae said as he stood up, dropped the empty cup in his hand in the sink and turned to leave, when Tony snapped a finger at him as he brought me a plastic bottle.

"Wash it."

"No." Tae frowned, looking offended.

"Wash it, kid."

"I'll pay you to wash it."

"Don't piss me off, Table."

Tae rolled his eyes and did as instructed, Katherine quickly dropped her cup in the sink. "Thank you!" She said to the shocked Tae.

"Take the bottle to school, you're late so no time to drink your coffee." Tony said with a small smile. "Don't drink like an idiot next time, you're terrible with alcohol." He advised. "Heard you tried to start shit with some people and you're lucky you didn't get kicked out and banned."

I frowned. "Oh—"

A knock suddenly came on the door and Tony went to get it as we all began to get ready to leave. Tony opened the door and I turned to see Alfred. "Hello, Tony." He smiled at Tony.

Tony didn't offer him a smile back, instead he seemed annoyed, which I thought was weird. Weren't they close?

"Your butler's here, kids."

"Kids? I only work for Tae." Alfred corrected.

"Not my problem." He said and walked away from the door.

The tension.

I turned away from them so it wouldn't look like I was not minding my business, which I wasn't.

"Come on, gut squirter." Katherine said as she began to leave first, her bag over her shoulder.

"Already?" I sighed.

"Yes." Tae said and pulled me up from the chair. "Now get up."

"Bye, kids." Tony responded.

"Bye, Tony!" We all chorused as we walked out of his house.

♦️♦️♦️

"I'm so tired." I muttered as we walked down the school hallway, the bottle of coffee in my hand.

"Yeah, you look it." Tae said and placed a hand over my shoulder. "You were such a mess last night, and you owe me new shoes since you messed up mine."

"Okay, what the hell happened last night, someone tell me." I turned to them.  They had been making subtle remarks about the night I couldn't remember.

"That's not important," Katherine said. "What is important is telling us what the hell was wrong yesterday?"

"N-Nothing. Victor just took me to that place and I drank a lot."

"And why did you drink a lot?" Tae questioned.

I shrugged. "I don't want to talk about it." I said and walked ahead.

"Well, since you won't say, I've gotta run. I'll see you guys at lunch or after school or whenever we see today. Bye, losers." Katherine said and walked away.

I turned to Tae. "Are you mad at me?"

"Why should I be mad at you?"

"I don't know." I shrugged. "Are you?"

Tae gave me a reassuring smile and moved closer to me, tucking my hair behind my ear. "I am not, silly. You didn't do anything wrong. You just had so much to drink and barfed on my shoes but that's okay."

"Oh my God." I covered my face. "I am embarrassing."

"It's not new for you, babe." Tae said as he put his arm around my shoulder and pulled me along with him as he walked. "I hope you're ready for our weekend-over?"

I groaned. "I haven't even told my mom yet."

"She loves me, she'll say yes. Just tell her it's a study session for the coming exams. We'll send her photos once in a while with books and all of that so she won't think her perfect son is lying."

I smiled, but my expression faltered as I spotted Xander in the distance, chatting with Lu and his friends. When our eyes met, Xander's face twisted into a smirk, and he waved at me with an air of mock friendliness.

"Hey, you're not going to just walk by, are you?" Xander asked, sauntering over to us with an unnerving grin plastered on his face. "I thought we were friends now?"

My heart began to race, I tensed up. My mind suddenly began replaying the disturbing events of yesterday. Xander's sinister smile made me wonder if I was truly safe with him around.

Tae pulled me closer, as if sensing my unease. "Xavier, move away," he warned, his voice low and even.

Xavier chuckled, his eyes glinting with amusement. "What's wrong? Didn't Vincent tell you we're buddies now?"

I remained silent, my eyes fixed on Xavier's smirking face. Tae's hand slipped away from my shoulder, and he took a deliberate step forward, his eyes locked on Xavier.

"I'll give you two seconds to get out of our way," Tae said, his voice dripping with menace. "If you're still here by the time I count to two, you'll be visiting the ER. And they won't be able to fix what damage I'd do to your face."

Xavier chuckled softly. "What? What is he? Your boyfriend?"

"Tae," I whispered, my heart racing with anxiety.

Tae said nothing but stared.

Xavier's smile faltered, he searched Tae's eyes for any sign of bluffing. But Tae's gaze remained steady, his expression unyielding.

"One," Tae counted, his voice dripping with warning.

Xavier's smile returned, but it looked forced. "I guess I'll catch you around, Vincent," he said, backing away.

Tae held my hand and pulled me away. "If he ever bothers you, come to me, and I'm not joking." He said and squeezed my hand. "You're okay."

I squeezed back.

♦️♦️♦️

"Alright, everyone." Ms. Urmi clapped her hands, capturing the attention of the whole music class. We were all seated and listening closely. "Let's see how much we've practiced with our assignment. Are you all ready?"

The class responded with a mix of enthusiastic "yeses," and I nodded in agreement. Ms. Urmi beamed with excitement. "Great! We're going to pick up from where we left off in rehearsal. Emily, Vincent, you're the lead vocalists that the class voted for, and we need to choose one of you, so you'll both sing your parts, and then we'll decide on our main lead."

Emily quickly raised her hand. She was an average-height, fit girl with blonde hair and bangs. Emily and I weren't exactly close; we had worked together before and exchanged greetings occasionally, but were we friends? Not really.

"Yea, Emily?"

"I think it's only fair I become the lead vocalist. Out of the two chosen, one of us is a psychotic attempted murderer, and the other is just a teenage girl whose only crime is getting a C in algebra," Emily said, flashing a mean smile.

"Emily," Ms. Urmi scolded.

"What?" she shrugged, turning to me. "I'm sure I'm not the only one thinking that." I swallowed hard.

"I didn't push her."

"Some of us were witnesses," she shot back.

"Did you see me push her, or did you just piggyback the lie that's floating around the school hallway?" I questioned.

"Okay, guys, stop," Ms. Urmi interjected.

"You think you can fool us with that innocent face of yours, but we know exactly what you are," Emily continued.

"And what exactly am I, Emily? Say it," I gulped, feeling the tension rise.

"Emily, that's enough!" Ms. Urmi reprimanded.

Emily ignored her, "You are—"

"Emily, for the love of God, just shut up!" April shouted, causing everyone to turn her way.

You remember April, the girl who's got a crush on me.

"Stop being such a bitch!" April retorted.

"Alright, April. Let's keep it together," Ms. Urmi interjected.

April quickly mouthed an apology while Emily rolled her eyes. "And look who suddenly found her voice. Can you put your crush aside and think rationally?"

"She's right," a boy chimed in from the back. I think his name is Rex. "You need to grow up, Emily. We all know Vincent, and if he said he didn't do it, then I believe him. So can you just be quiet and let's finish class? You can save your drama for another day."

"You know what? If everyone thinks I'm crazy, I'm out." Emily stood up, gathering her belongings.

"Emily," Ms. Urmi called, arms crossed. Emily glanced back, waiting. "Don't ever pull that stunt in my class again. Ever. Consider this a serious warning."

Emily huffed, "I know he's your favorite, that's why you're fighting for him."

"Maybe if you had a better attitude and were a stronger singer, you might have a chance at being my favorite. Now get out of my class, and with that attitude, you can forget about the lead role. Since you dislike Vincent so much, he'll take it."

"Ms. Urmi—"

"Get out, and head to the principal office while you're at it."

Emily swallowed hard, grabbed her things, and stormed out of the classroom.

Ms. Urmi looked at everyone of us. "If there's one thing you all should remember, it's to respect each other and keep the drama outside of my classroom."

She adjusted her smile and let out a big sigh. "Now, where were we?"

♦️♦️♦️

As the students filed out of the classroom, I lingered behind, hoping to have a word with Ms. Urmi. "Great job, everyone," she said, smiling at the departing students. "See you all next week."

Once the room was empty, I approached her desk. "Thank you...for earlier," I said, my voice sincere.

Ms. Urmi waved her hand dismissively. "No need to thank me, dear. I'm just doing my job. And I do not like mean people like Emily, I don't tolerate bullying."

I smiled, feeling a sense of gratitude. "Still, thank you."

Ms. Urmi's expression turned concerned. "Are you okay?"

I took a deep breath, trying to compose myself. "Yeah, I'll be fine."

Ms. Urmi looked at me skeptically. "You sure?"

I nodded, trying to reassure her. "I'll see you on Monday."

Ms. Urmi smiled warmly. "You did a great job today. Keep it up."

I smiled back, feeling a sense of appreciation. "Thanks, Ms. Urmi. Bye."

"Bye, Vincent," she replied, as I walked out of the classroom.

As I strolled down the hallway, a smile still plastered on my face, I took a sharp left turn and almost collided with a tall figure. I froze, my heart skipping a beat, and looked up to see Julian's surprised gaze locking onto mine.

For a moment, we just stared at each other, the air thick with unspoken tension. Julian's eyes narrowed slightly, his expression unreadable. I felt a flutter in my chest as our eyes held, the familiarity of our past friendship mingling with the awkwardness of our current situation.

"Lockhart," Julian called out softly, his voice low and hesitant.

"Julian," I replied, my voice barely above a whisper. I gulped, feeling a lump form in my throat.

Julian blinked, his eyes searching mine for a glimmer of forgiveness. "Uh, h-how are you?" he asked, his tone awkward.

I nodded curtly, my emotions still raw. "Good." The scent of his cologne wafted up, a familiar aroma that now felt bittersweet. I missed it, missed him, but the pain of our past still lingered.

"I um...I was gonna uh...call y—" Julian sighed, his shoulders sagging in defeat. "I hate this," he admitted, his voice cracking with emotion. "I hate how nervous it is to be around you, and I know it's my fault. I just...wish we could fix this. Again, I'm sorry, Vincent."

I gave a small nod, my eyes stinging with unshed tears. I said nothing, unable to find the words to express the turmoil inside me. Instead, I walked past him, leaving him standing alone in the hallway.

♦️♦️♦️

As I stepped out of the school doors, the warm sunlight was a welcome relief after a long day of classes. Scanning the crowded hallway, my eyes landed on April, her bright smile a beacon amidst the sea of students. My heart skipped a beat as I bit my bottom lip, feeling a sudden surge of nervousness.

I quickened my pace, calling out to her before she could disappear into the crowd. "April!" My voice was a little louder than I intended, but it did the trick. She paused, turning to face me.

"Hi."

"Oh, hey Vincent!" She beamed.

"Um, I just...I wanted to thank you for earlier and to also apologize for being a dick prior."

April smiled softly. "Oh, that's okay. I know you didn't exactly mean that the first time. You probably had a lot on your plate and so lashed out at the wrong person." She shrugged.

I smiled softly. "You're really a nice person to still have my back, so thank you for that."

April shook her head, a gentle smile on her face. "No worries, really," she said, her voice soft and sincere. "And I want you to know that I don't believe the rumors. I know you wouldn't do something like that. Plus, Lu can be...a bit much, sometimes. Maybe all the time, I mean she's batshit crazy." She chuckled, a low, throaty sound. "I'm surprised everyone believes her, to be honest. But then again, she's Lu."

I felt a warmth spread through my chest as I smiled, feeling a sense of gratitude towards April. She wasn't exactly a close friend, just someone I knew from school, and yet she had chosen to believe in me without needing an explanation.

And yet,

Julian....

"I guess I'll see you around? My dad's waiting for me at home."

"Yeah, yeah." I nodded. "I'll see you around."

"Bye." She waved and walked away.

As I turned to leave, I collided with a familiar and unwelcome duo: Xavier and Joshua. My heart sank, and I froze, my eyes locking onto Joshua's smirking face. He was chewing gum, his jaw working lazily as he gazed at me with a look of mocking amusement. It was a look that sent a shiver down my spine, a look that was all too reminiscent of his master, Xavier.

"Oh hey! We meet again." Xavier grinned.

"Xavier, please get out of my way. I need to go home." I muttered.

"But I just wanna talk to my friend." He said and looked at Joshua. "Is that wrong?"

Joshua's smirk grew wider as he shook his head. "Not at all," he repeated, his voice dripping with sarcasm. "Nice shirt, too." He added, his eyes glinting with malice as he popped his gum out of his mouth and pressed it against my shirt.

I slapped his hand away, but not before the sticky gum had left a stubborn mark on my fabric. Joshua's smile vanished, replaced by a scowl. Xavier's eyes narrowed, his jaw clenched in anger.

"Do you want us to break your freaking bones?" Joshua snarled, his brows furrowed in a menacing glare.

I couldn't breathe.

Why can't I say or do anything?

Just as things were about to escalate, a familiar voice cut through the tension. "Vincent!"

We all turned to look in the direction of the voice, and I felt a wave of relief wash over me as I saw Victor standing next to his car, his eyes fixed intently on Xavier and Joshua.

Xavier's expression changed in an instant, his scowl replaced by a fake smile. "Hey, Victor!" He waved, his voice dripping with insincerity. "Alright now, pal." He patted my chest, his touch making my skin crawl. "See you tomorrow." He said, before turning to walk away with Joshua.

I swallowed and faked a smile, walking over to Victor who seemed to be trying to read my face.

"Hey!"

"Are you okay? What was that about?" Victor asked, concerned.

Tell him.

"Oh nothing." I chuckled. "It's just Xavier being stupid as usual. Nothing special. How are you?"

"I'm well. How are you? I don't think you remember much from last night."

"Ugh. I was a mess, wasn't I?"

"Worse. Such a troublemaker."

I groaned. "Was it that bad?"

"Kinda. Apparently, you almost got into a fight with some people who could fucking ruin you, actually all of us, and I'm not ready to get ruined."

"Oh, fuck this!" I rubbed my face with my hands.

"Come on, I'll take you home now, you drunk fuck."

"Fuck you."

"Yo, V!" Tae shouted, catching our attention. We turned to see him walking towards us with Katherine beside him.

"Your friends always look like they're walking out of a magazine." Victor said as we watched them.

"And they compliment each other very well."

"They would make a great couple in Hollywood."

"Hmm." I chortled.

"Hello, Victor." Katherine smiled.

"Hello, kids."

Tae's voice cut through the conversation, his eyes locked onto Victor's. "Uh, before you both disappear," he said, a hint of amusement in his tone. "I'm having a study session at my house this weekend. Just a small group, really. Me, Katherine...and Vincent." His gaze flicked to me, a sly glint in his eye.

My eyes widened in alarm as I realized where Tae was heading with this. I tried to signal him to shut up, my eyes darting towards him in a frantic warning. But Tae just smiled to himself, clearly enjoying the fact that he was putting me on the spot.

Tae's smile grew wider as he said, "So, I'll be picking Vincent up tomorrow."

Victor's frown deepened, his brow furrowed in concern. "Oh," he said softly. "This is the first time I'm hearing about that."

Tae's gaze swung to me, his eyes sparkling with amusement. "Oh! Didn't you tell your family? I told you about it last week."

I swallowed hard, feeling a flush rise to my cheeks. "Well, um..."

Katherine jumped to my rescue, folding her arms across her chest. "Leave the poor boy alone! You know he's been busy with a lot of school work, he probably forgot."

I nodded vigorously, grateful for the save. "Yeah, that's what happened."

I walked away from Victor and stood between Katherine and Tae, and together we looked at Victor, our faces a united front. Victor's gaze darted from Tae to me to Katherine, a hint of frustration in his eyes. "You guys are weird," he said finally, "but uh, it's not just up to me. We have a mother who has a higher say, so we'll see if this works."

We all groaned in unison, and Katherine rolled her eyes good-naturedly. "Well, try your best with our boy," she said, giving me a warm hug. "I'll see you tomorrow, my love. Bye." I muttered a quiet goodbye, feeling a mix of emotions.

Katherine's expression turned serious as she whispered, "Call me if anything happens, I'm serious." I pulled away and gave her a nod, feeling a sense of gratitude towards her.

But our moment was interrupted by Katherine's sudden exclamation. "Oh my God, you have gum on your shirt and it's stuck on mine!" She looked at it in disgust, and I felt my face heat up with embarrassment.

Victor's eyes narrowed. "Who put gum on you?" he asked, his tone firm. I froze, feeling a sense of dread wash over me. Tae and Katherine seemed to instantly catch on to what was going on, and they exchanged a knowing glance.

Katherine quickly spoke, covering for me. "It's totally fine, I'm sure it's one of those silly kids in our class who has spent the entire week chewing gum."

Tae said nothing, but his eyes spoke volumes. He stared at me, his expression serious and concerned.

Finally, he spoke up, his voice dry. "I guess we have a gum infestation in school." I felt a surge of embarrassment and quickly muttered, "I'll uh...see you guys tomorrow." I got into Victor's car, feeling like I was escaping a potentially awkward situation.

As I looked back at Tae, our eyes met, and I felt a pang of shame. His expression was still serious, and I quickly looked away, feeling like I owed him an explanation.

♦️♦️♦️

As I stepped out of my room to grab a glass of water, the glow of the TV caught my attention. Victor was sitting on the couch, engrossed in an episode of The Office. I raised an eyebrow, curious. "Don't you have work tonight?" I asked, padding into the kitchen.

Victor shook his head. "Took the night off."

I filled my cup with water and took a sip, eyeing him thoughtfully. "Do you like your job?" I asked, wandering back into the living room.

Victor shrugged. "It's okay, I guess. I mean, it pays the bills."

I nodded sympathetically, settling onto the couch beside him. "Sometimes I feel like we're all just trying to make ends meet, you know?"

Victor turned to me, his eyes searching. "What do you mean?"

I hesitated, unsure how to articulate my thoughts. "I don't know... our lives are just so hard and I hate that for us. It's almost like all we've known is suffering." I scoffed.  "Dad left and never looked back.  Mom works so hard, and you're always driving that old jeep and working at the bar... and there's me, unable to do anything to help because everyone is doing their best for me. I'm just sitting here, studying and hoping to become a doctor as everyone wants. Sometimes I feel like I'm not doing enough and it's just—"

Victor's expression softened. "It's just what?"

I swallowed hard, stopping myself and choosing my next words careful so I don't sound ungrateful. I forced a smile and looked at him, shaking my head. "Nothing. I am just grateful for you guys and all you do."

Victor said nothing for a while, while I returned my gaze to the show on tv.  "If something was bothering you, you'd tell me, right?"

I gazed at him again, this time with furrowed brows. "Hm? Of course."

"Okay." Victor nodded.  "Go to bed, you have a vacation this weekend with T."

"Do you like my friends?"

"I mean," he shrugged. "They seem to make you happy so that's what matters."

I smiled. "Goodnight, Victor." I said and stood up. "I hate you sometimes but you're really the best brother."

"I know I am."

I scoffed. "Spoken to mom yet?"

"Yeah, she called. She's hanging out with a friend for a bit."

"Oh okay!" I replied and retreated to my room.

💠 JUST FRIENDS 💠

Sarah walked down the street, her phone pressed to her ear and her other hand tucked into her jacket for warmth. The cool evening air carried the sounds of the city, from the hum of cars to the chatter of pedestrians.

"Victor, did you and your brother eat dinner yet?" Sarah asked, her voice clear and concerned.

"Yes, we have," Victor replied, his voice warm and reassuring. "Where are you? Do you want me to come pick you up?"

Sarah smiled, feeling a sense of relief wash over her. "I'm okay. I'll be home in a bit. I need to stop by the store first."

Victor's tone turned skeptical. "You sure?"

Sarah chuckled. "Yes. I'll see you in a bit. I love you."

"Love you too," Victor responded, and they hung up.

Sarah continued walking, her feet carrying her toward the familiar grocery store on the corner. The sign above the door read "Mark's Market," and the owner, Mark, greeted her warmly as she entered.

"Hey, Sarah," Mark said, his eyes crinkling at the corners as he smiled.

"Hi, Mark," Sarah replied, returning the smile as she took a mini shopping cart.

As she wandered the aisles, Sarah's eyes scanned the shelves for the ingredients she needed. She picked up a few essentials – milk, bread, and eggs – before moving on to the meat department.

That's where she saw Laila, the woman from the traffic jam a few days prior. Laila was dressed in a stunning brown dress, paired with a luxurious white fur jacket and gold jewelry that sparkled under the store's fluorescent lights.

Sarah's eyebrows rose in surprise as Laila looked up, their eyes meeting across the aisle.

"Laila?" Sarah said, her voice tentative.

Laila stared at her, confused.

"It's me! Sar—"

Laila's expression quickly changed from curiosity to recognition, and she smiled. "Sarah! I remember you from the crazy traffic night."

Sarah chuckled, feeling a sense of camaraderie with this stranger. "Yes! What are the odds?"

They laughed together, and Sarah found herself feeling drawn to Laila's charismatic personality.

"What are you doing here?" Sarah asked her.

"Trying to get some ingredients I need for this weekend. I was driving home when it clicked that I have a few items I need that I don't have at home."

Sarah chuckled. "That makes both of us."

"Oh! Telepathic sisters then." Laila said while Sarah beamed.

As they continued shopping, She wondered what kind of meal Laila was planning to cook. When they reached the checkout counter, Sarah surprised Laila by offering to pay for her groceries.

"Oh no, you didn't have to," Laila said, looking taken aback.

"It's not a problem, really," Sarah replied with a smile. "We've crossed paths twice now. We just might keep crossing paths."

Laila's smile seemed forced, but she thanked Sarah and accepted the offer. "Next time, it's on me." She said.

Deep down, she hated the fact that someone as low as Sarah would insist on paying for her things, she felt insulted. It should have been the other way around but the woman had beat her to it.

As they walked out of the store, Laila stopped in front of a sleek, black car. The vehicle looked expensive, and Sarah's eyes widened as she took in the sight.

"If you're less busy, we should grab a drink or something and talk," Laila said, her eyes sparkling with interest.

Sarah hesitated, feeling a sense of unease. "I'd love to, but not tonight. I have to get home to my kids."

Laila stared blankly. "Are they toddlers?"

Sarah chuckled. "No, they're grown-ups. Well, one's still a teenager."

Laila's smile seemed to falter for a moment before she recovered. "You're a beautiful woman who shouldn't waste her youth suffering."

Sarah's smile felt forced as she replied, "Okay, you know what? Let's meet tomorrow instead."

Laila's smiled. "Great. We'll call it Ladies brunch. I'll send you the address and all you have to do is show up."

Sarah nodded, feeling a sense of trepidation. "Sounds good."

As Laila got into her car, Sarah noticed the two men in suits sitting in the front seats. They looked like bodyguards, and Sarah's curiosity was piqued.

"Goodnight, Sarah," Laila said, her voice dripping with sophistication.

"Goodnight, Laila," Sarah replied, waving as the car drove away.

As she watched the taillights disappear into the night, Sarah couldn't help but smile at the idea of making a friend out of the ongoing coincidences.

Vincent walked into the dining room, where his mother, Sarah, and brother, Victor, were already seated. "Good morning," he said, taking a seat.

"Good morning, sleep well?" Sarah asked, to which Vincent nodded.

Vincent's eyes shifted to Victor, who was reading a book with a cup of coffee beside him. Vincent wondered how they would break the news to their mother about his plans to spend the weekend at Tae's house. Sarah was very protective and only wanted Vincent to focus on his studies.

Victor looked up from his book and caught Vincent's gaze. He tilted his head, acknowledging the telepathic connection Vincent had been trying to establish.

Sarah asked, "So, Vincent, anything interesting happen this week?"

Vincent hesitated before responding, "Uh, no. Although the school is preparing for some Valentine's event next week, nothing special."

Sarah turned to him with a smile. "You got a Valentine?"

Vincent blinked. "Uh, yes. Her name is Math, I talk to her sister English sometimes. They're nice siblings, but very much opposites."

Sarah rolled her eyes and returned to cooking. "You should ask Katherine, she's a lovely girl."

Vincent forced a smile. "She is."

Vincent turned his gaze to his brother.   Tell her. He mouthed.

Victor frowned at his little brother who looked impatient and nervous. Why should I tell her? You tell her.  He mouthed back.

Vincent gave him a look.

Victor chimed in, "So, tell me, Vincent, how's the preparation for the test next week coming along?"

Vincent wondered what Victor was up to but played along. "Uh, good."

Sarah asked, "What test?"

Vincent's eyes darted to Victor, who took over the conversation. "They have this important test next week, and Vincent's been preparing for it."

Sarah's interest was piqued. "Oh, really? Why didn't you tell me about it?"

Vincent shrugged. "I didn't want to bother you."

Sarah smiled. "I'm your mother, silly. Tell me about it."

Victor jumped in, "It's for college, an entrance test. He's trying, but I think he needs a study group."

Sarah nodded. "You think so?"

Victor nodded, "Vincent is intelligent, the whole world knows that but chemistry right now isn't his strong suit and I think he needs help with that from...someone very close to him." Victor said. "And Tae is really good in chemistry, but Tae— you remember Tae."

Sarah nodded. "Yes, that sweet boy who bought me the Pearl necklace. I remember him." She smiled.

"Yes." Victor snapped his fingers. "Tae is great at chemistry, but he struggles with biology. Vincent is great at biology but struggles with chemistry, so they could help each other."

Sarah agreed, "That sounds like a good idea, I mean they are friends after-all so they can only help each other. It's a win-win."

Vincent and Victor exchanged a look, relieved that their plan was working.

Sarah added, "They can both study here."

Vincent and Victor's eyes widened in alarm. "Uh, no," Victor said. "I think Vincent needs a change of environment. He never leaves home, and Katherine's family is really....smart. They can all study together, maybe...a weekend off."

"Oh." Sarah blinked. "But where would they stay for the weekend then? It's not exactly safe out there for children to be wandering around." Sarah asked, concerned.

"Not wondering around, mom. We'll be at Katherine's." Vincent quickly replied.  "She complains that I never really come to see her anyways, and just like you wanted to see my friends, so does her family. I think it's also a good way for all of us to bond too."

Sarah hesitated before agreeing. "Fine, I guess. I'm sure they are a lovely family, so I know it'll be fine, as long as you're actually studying and not partying."

"I wouldn't dream of it," Vincent said, perhaps a bit too quickly.

Victor chuckled. "Vincent? Party? Never."

Sarah laughed, taking a bite of her bread as she stood up. "I'm a bit distracted, - I have a tea date with a new friend later and I need to make sure my shoes match my dress." She smiled, lost in thought. "Alright, dears, finish up. Vincent, you've got school soon." She said as she stood up and left the table.

As she headed upstairs, Vincent asked, "Who's the new friend, Mom?"

Sarah turned back, a faraway look in her eyes. "She's someone new. I haven't really seen her around town but I've only met her twice and she is wonderful - I think she's also very smart, funny, and drop dead gorgeous too. She smells so much like money I could never have even if I sold my soul. And she seems to like me for who I am." She smiled, excitedly.

Victor and Vincent exchanged a glance, happy to see their mom so excited about having a new friend.

Victor reassured her, "You'll be great, Mom. Whatever you wear, i am sure she wouldn't care."

Sarah beamed, "sure. Hurry up, boys." She said, hurrying up the stairs.

Vincent turned to Victor, grinning. "Thanks for that, you're the best."

Victor smirked, playing along. "I know. But now, you owe me one."

Vincent pouted, but couldn't hide his smile. "I don't like owing you."

Victor chuckled. "Tough luck. Now finish up, I've got to drop you off at school soon."

♦️ JUST FRIENDS ♦️
VINCENT's POV

"I will see you after school." Victor said as I got out of the car. I gave him a nod , smiling in response.

"Bye. And thank you again for helping me convince mom to go study."

"I know you're not studying." Victor snorted. "Just....don't party too hard incase that is what is happening."

"W-We are not partying."

"Mmhmm."

"Ugh. Bye." I said and walked away from his car.

"Vinnie!" I heard TAE's voice call out from across the parking lot. I turned to see him strutting towards me, clad in a bold outfit: sunglasses, a bright pink floral shirt, and crisp white pants. As he locked his car door, a smile spread across my face- charming as always. But then my gaze drifted to the left, Katherine and Julian came into view, they were standing next to her car, lost in conversation. They were both beaming with amusement, and my curiosity piqued. I raised an eyebrow, wondering what they possibly could be talking about, and since when were they chummy??.

Just as quickly, I snapped back to attention, focusing on Tae as he approached me.

"Hi, Sunshine."

"Hey, you." I grinned.

"You look ravishing today." He said as he rose his sunglasses.

"Oh really? You're the one who's dressed like he's going to a movie premier."

"Well, yes. But when I say ravishing, darling," he placed his arm around my shoulder. "I mean your face and not your clothes."

"Right." I gave a small nod. My eyes drifted back to where Katherine and Julian were but they were no longer there. I wondered.

"So, did your mother say yes?" Tae asked as we walked into the school door.

"Well,"

"If she refused, I could just have a designer floral dress delivered to her, probably Dolce and Gabbana, she'd love it."

I groaned, rolling my eyes. "Tae,"

"What? They not her style? Fine, you can pick the designer, yourself."

"It's not that. You can't buy my mom, boy." I said as I stopped at my locker.

"I wasn't trying to buy her. I just wanna bribe her."

"Anyways, after a little convincing and help from Victor, she said I could come study at yours." I said as I opened my locker and took out a textbook.

"Study?" He grimaced. "Who said a damn thing about studying?"

"Are you not happy I'm gonna be there?"

"You know what? I am indeed glad." He grinned.

"Hello, boys." Katherine greeted as she appeared before us. "Tae, not a day passes by that I am not impressed by your wardrobe."

"Thanks, but let's not make Vincent feel bad that his wardrobe isn't the best."

I scoffed. "I'm not bothered about that but anyways, where've you been?"

Katherine frowned slightly. "Me? I just got in like a couple minutes ago."

"Oh." I nodded. "Okay." I closed my locker.

"So, what are we talking about?"

"Vincent's mother said yes to him coming over." Tae said as we all began walking down the hall.

"Well, that's good news." Katherine clapped.

"Too bad you'll be missing out on the fun we'll be having." Tae said.

"I would have loved to be there but I'm gonna be very busy this weekend, so...sorry." She shrugged.

"What are you busy with anyways?" Tae questioned, curiously.

"Family. We've got like an family thing this weekend, so yeah."

I frowned. "Wait, I thought you said you had to study with your science partner?"

Katherine paused for a bit. "Oh, yeah, yeah. Uh, yeah, no, we do have to um...study today and tomorrow, then family thing is Sunday so it's uh...it's a bit of both."

"Oh," I gave a small nod. "Okay."

"Anyways, I've um...I've gotta go. I need to meet up with the principal since he needs to see me and so, I will see you guys in class." She said, her gaze moving from me to Tae, it stayed on him for a bit before she smiled at me and walked away.

"Hm."

"What?" Tae asked.

"Nothing." I shook my head.  "Come on, let's head to class."

♦️ JUST FRIENDS ♦️

"I think Valentine's Day is a total waste of time," I said, my fingers drifting over the piano keys.

Mrs. Urmi looked up from her desk, a hint of amusement in her voice. "Is that because you're flying solo this year?"

I met her gaze. "No, that's not it." April's chuckle from across the room made me roll my eyes. "I'm serious, it's not about that."

Ms. Urmi intervened, her tone curious. "So, what's behind your Valentine's Day skepticism?"

Rex, seated at the drum set, chimed in with a smirk. "Sounds like someone's bitter about being single." I shot him a look, but he just chuckled.

I shrugged. "I just think there are 364 other days to show love and appreciation. What makes Valentine's Day so special?" Rex and April exchanged a knowing glance, but I ignored them.

Rex, April and I had sort of become a little closer than before. I remembered how he and April had stood up for me during that crazy incident with Emily. Rex, with his tattoos and easy smile, had become an unlikely ally. And now, here we were, discussing Valentine's Day like old friends.

Rex teased, "It's like a day dedicated to lovers, but you wouldn't understand." April playfully scolded him, "Rex, don't be mean."

I scoffed, "Wow, you all are ganging up on me. What happened to freedom of speech?"

Rex smirked, "Well, well, well. Look who's getting defensive."

I shot back, "What do you even know about love, Rex? It's not like you're in a relationship."

"Well," Rex's eyes flickered toward April before returning to me. I caught the glance and looked at April who was holding back a smile.

It hit me.

I gasped loudly, covering my mouth.

"What?" Rex asked, his eyes narrowing slightly.

"Nothing," I said quickly, trying to brush it off. "I just...remembered something."

Mrs. Urmi gave me a knowing look and a small smile.

April changed the subject, "So, Vincent, what are you doing for Valentine's Day?"

I shrugged. "Nothing, just hanging out with a friend."

Rex's eyes lit up. "A friend, huh? Do tell us more."

"It's just Tae." I shrugged.

April chuckled. "You're so predictable, Vincent. Your social circle is, like, three people."

"Not three, two." Rex corrected.

April added. "And before Taehyung and Katherine, you only had one friend."

I pouted, "Hey, that's not fair. And besides, I just don't like people. I'd rather have one than a couple. And I think I still only have two friends seeing as you two want to gang up on me."

Rex teased, "Oh, we're friends now, huh?"

I blinked severally, looking at him.

Wait, weren't we?

"I...I don't know. I mean, if you're both okay with that."

Mrs. Urmi intervened, "Don't mind Rex, Vincent. He likes to make people uncomfortable. He's what we call a twister."

I looked at her, confused. "A twister?"

Mrs. Urmi explained, "Yes, he knows how to twist words to make you get lost in your explanation."

I turned to him and narrowed my eyes dramatically at him, "So, you're a villain!"

Rex shrugged, "I take pride in that."

"So are you all trying to recruit me into this cult?"

"I mean, you have a power too." April said.

"What power do I have?"

"You're a siren." April answered nonchalantly. "And we need that if we are going to hypnotize everyone during the talent show. Ms. Urmi said you could be able to do that."

I looked at Ms. Urmi. "I see Profession Xavier's been talking about me."

"How can I not?" She giggled and then the bell rang. "Anyways, you all should go for lunch now. You already spent your free period in here."

"Before we go, how about we do a little number?" April said "What do you think?" She asked us.

"Uh," I looked at Rex and back at her. "What do you want us to sing?"

"Ever heard this Nigerian song, Be My Man by Asa?" Rex song.

I smirked. "Well, someone else would have to play the piano then."

April's eyes sparkled with excitement. "Leave it to me," she said, hurrying over to take my place at the piano. I stepped aside, watching as the others launched into action. Mrs. Urmi grasped a tambourine, its metal jingles shimmering in the light. Rex's hands moved deftly over the drumset, the beat pulsating through the air. April's fingers danced across the piano keys, weaving a melodic spell. As the music swelled, I took a deep breath and joined in, my voice blending with the instruments in perfect harmony.

As the music pulsed through the room, I couldn't help but let loose. The upbeat tempo infused my voice with energy, and I found myself dancing to the rhythm. The others were equally caught up in the moment, their bodies moving in time with their instruments. Rex's hands danced across the drums, his head bobbing to the beat. April's fingers flew across the piano keys, her shoulders swaying to the music. Even Mrs. Urmi, tambourine in hand, was grinning from ear to ear, her hips swaying gently to the rhythm. The room was electric, and it felt like we had a shared energy.

As I twirled, my eyes locked onto Julian's, and I gasped, my voice faltering. The music slowed to a stop, and the room fell silent. Julian stood by the door, looking awkward.

"Um, hi," he said, his smile hesitant. "I'm so sorry to interrupt. I didn't want to disturb you, so I just...stood here."

Ms. Urmi's eyes narrowed slightly. "How long have you been standing there, Julian?"

He chuckled. "Not long. You guys are great, as usual."

Rex spoke up, his tone neutral. "We're surprised to see you. I mean, you stopped visiting after...you and Vincent stopped talking."

April shot Rex a warning glance before nervously standing up. "We're going to grab lunch. Nice seeing you, Julian."

As April and Rex packed up their instruments, Rex paused beside me. "Do you want us to stay?" he whispered.

My heart racing, I smiled and shook my head. "No, I'm good."

Rex nodded and followed April out the door. As they left, April whispered, "You're so stupid."

Rex protested, "What? I was just saying."

Once they were gone, I turned to Julian. "What are you doing here?"

He hesitated. "I wanted to talk to you."

Ms. Urmi smiled warmly. "I'll leave you two to talk. Excuse me."

As she walked out, she shot me a calming glance. I took a deep breath, my eyes locked on Julian's.

"You sing Asa so well. You really do her justice."

I walked over to sit down, trying to appear nonchalant. "You're the one who introduced me to her music."

Julian chuckled softly. "Yeah, I remember. You listened to her nonstop for weeks."

"Two weeks," I corrected with a smile.

Julian teased, "Are you sure? I could've sworn it was longer."

"I'm sure."

"Oh, maybe it was one direction then. You were obsessed with them, Jesus."

"I wasn't obsessed. It was just a phase."

Julian nodded. "True. But then again, you've had a lot of phases with so many artists – One Direction, The Beatles, Madonna, Bruno Mars, Selena Gomez, Beyoncé..."

I frowned, feeling a bit defensive. "Beyoncé was never just a phase."

Julian's grin widened. "No, you're right. You adored her. Remember when she announced her pregnancy and you...ah...ran over to my house to share the news?"

I snickered, feeling a bit nostalgic. "I didn't run."

Julian's eyes twinkled. "Oh, I'm pretty sure you did. You were breathless and sweaty, and you just blurted out, 'Julian-Julian, guess what? Guess what??? Beyoncé's pregnant!'"

I laughed, feeling carefree for a moment. "It wasn't that dramatic."

"Oh, I'm sure it was. You were more excited for her than her husband."

"You're insane." I laughed. But then, reality set in, and my smile faltered. I looked away, my expression turning serious.

"What do you want, Julian?" I asked, my tone flat.

His smile also fell once he saw I had returned to reality. "Um, I thought we should talk."

"About what?"

Julian sat beside me, his eyes filled with a deep longing. "I know you said you needed time and I understand that." He sighed. "However, sometimes I sit back and I think about what we used to have and how much we loved each other. Do you remember you taught me how to make a lemonade when we were kids? And on my twelfth birthday, you got me a cake and it meant so much to me because you had been saving for so long for that and I knew I could never measure up to that."

He took a deep breath, his eyes welling up with tears. "When I was sad, you were always there to comfort me, and you became my safe space. And I messed it all up, I know and I will always be sorry that I broke your trust and our bond. You...matter to me, Vincent."

Tears streamed down his face as he spoke, and my heart ached for him. I saw the genuine remorse in his eyes. "Then why didn't you believe me, Julian?" I wiped away my own tears, my voice barely above a whisper. "How could you think I would want to hurt Lu?"

He shook his head, his eyes filled with regret. "I was scared." He muttered. "I knew she couldn't swim, I just didn't know how much of a psycho she was to do what she did. I-I wasn't thinking and I will carry that guilt with me forever."

I wiped off my tears, looking away from him. I was hurt, I really was. However, I could see how much he regretted it, his eyes held so much pain and hurt that it....hurt me.

"I don't expect you to forgive me, I can live with that, Vince. But please, don't....don't hate me. That is one I can't live with, you h-hating me." A depressing tear rolled down his face, his lips quivering.

I watched him turn into the little boy I knew years ago, that tough boy who had a soft, sad part of himself. I placed a hand on his cheek and wiped off the tears that fell.

"You've always been an ugly crier," I said, trying to lighten the mood.

Julian smiled weakly, his eyes still brimming with tears. "You're not exactly a pretty crier yourself."

I laughed mid tears.

"I'm..... I'm sorry. I'm sorry. I'm sorry." He kept saying as he cried.

I immediately pulled him into a tight hug, holding him close as he sobbed. "It's okay. I forgive you, Decker," I whispered, my heart heavy with emotion.

As we hugged, I felt a weight lift off my shoulders. Forgiveness wasn't easy, but it was necessary. And as I held Julian close, I knew that I still had feelings for him, feelings that I thought I could ignore.

💠 THIRD PERSON P. O. V💠

Lu's eyes narrowed as she gazed through the classroom window, her anger simmering like a pot about to boil over. She watched, her heart seething with hatred, as Vincent and Julian hugged, their faces etched with emotion.

How dare he, Lu thought, her mind racing with venom. How dare Vincent think he can just waltz back into Julian's life and reclaim what's hers?

Lu's eyes flashed with malice as she recalled the way Julian used to look at her, the way he smiled at her, before Vincent had ruined everything. He was always the problem. The obstacle.

She couldn't wait to get rid of him, to make him pay.

As she stood there, her anger and hatred consuming her, an idea popped into her head. She would make sure Vincent paid for what he had done to her. She would make sure he suffered.

And as she turned to walk away, Lu's eyes gleamed with a malevolent intensity, her heart burning with an unholy desire for revenge.
