Chapter 26: And they fall apart
(Megan POV)
'Shhh, it's alright... just let everything out...'
I sobbed quietly into Prince's fur, my arms around his torso as we lay side by side on the couch. Prince used his tail to rub my back, as he knew Gladion did this to help me calm down. It wasn't as effective, but it does make me feel a little better to know I wasn't completely alone.
'I-I don't even recognize him a-anymore, Prince.' I cried 'After all these y-years, he seems so... I don't know... terrifying to me now. I don't think I can even look him in the eye anymore.'
'I know...' Prince rubbed his head against my hair 'And I'm not going to tell you everything will be alright, because I don't know if it will... but I can tell you that you are not alone in this.'
I sniffled 'Thank you Prince...'
I looked up, only to stare directly at the reflection in the TV. Staring back at me was a girl, with blue eyes and long hair mixed with blonde and brunette and highlighted red. She had an ugly scar running down the right side of her body which I couldn't tear my eyes away from. I remembered how sh*t I treated Gladion after the incident, and that I almost cut him down over a little irritation.
'Well anyway, I'm no better than him...' I muttered bitterly 'Except I look like a monster.'
(3rd POV)
Unknown to Megan and Prince, Gladion sat in the hallway, his back up against the living room door. He gritted his teeth as he listened in to everything Megan says about him and herself.
'No wonder Gladion hates me now... he has every right to. He's come to his senses, finally realising loving a mutation like me is a big old waste of his precious time.' she spoke in a rather mocking tone. 'I don't blame him, really. I bet he regrets having sex with me, I would if I was him. I bet he regrets confessing to me when we were in the Pokemon Center waiting room. I bet he regrets finding me as Type:Null...' Her voice became shakier from every word, until she became silent. Presumably Prince was scolding her for thinking such bullsh*t.
Gladion bowed his head and cried softly into his arms. Did Megan really think so lowly of him?
(Timeskip)
Megan walked silently down the halls, the only sound she made was her feet pressing onto the floor. She had to get some clothes from her room, as she had worn the same thing for days, but that risked her running into Gladion either on the way or in the actual room. That was probably why her palms were sweaty and her heart was beating faster. Not the usual way Gladion made it beat, as this time it was from fear. Megan walked into the room, realising the light was off so Gladion must not be in. She felt the tension drain, and she reached out to feel for the light switch.
'Come on... Where are yo-' she paused as her hand pressed against something fabricky and warm 'Wait... That's not a lightswitch, or a wall.'
'No, that's my chest.'
'AH!' she screamed, jumping back and getting into her fighting stance. Light filled the room, revealing Gladion with his hand on the light switch. He was staring at Megan with a cold expression, making her feel the nerves come rushing back.
'Well well well...' He hissed, slowly making his way towards Megan. With every step forward he took, she took a step back. He noticed she wasn't looking him in the eye, and instead gazing directly at his crossed arms.
'I don't think I can even look him in the eye anymore.'
He clenched his jaw, proceeding to take another step forward. 'What's wrong, Megan? Am I truly that terrifying to you now?' he spat.
Megan gulped, before feeling herself trip and fall onto the bed. She watched Gladion come closer, and without thinking she yelled at the top of her voice 'STAY BACK!'
Gladion halted, his eyebrows knitted together as he stared at the girl. So it was true then...
'I see...' He sighed 'You really are afraid. All over a simple fight...' he chuckled bitterly 'I truly thought you knew I'd never hurt you... even after you hurt me.'
'That's bull, Gladion!' Megan stood, sharing his anger as she now made direct eye contact with him. 'We both know what you did earlier today hurt me! Granted, I tripped you up, but it did not have to result in that kind of hostility!'
Gladion 'tch'ed 'Whatever. That was nothing.'
'Maybe not physically-' Megan stopped herself, realising this could result in a repeat of what happened when she attacked him. She knew Gladion grows cold when he's upset, so maybe it was the thought of his mother that made him this way. She relaxed her muscles, which confused Gladion, before crossing her arms and once again staring him directly in the eye. 'We're going to settle this right here and now. You're going to tell me what's bothering you.'
'What?' Gladion almost laughed 'Nothing's bothering me.'
'I know that's not true!' Megan said sternly 'You wouldn't act like this unless something was wrong! For once instead of hiding your feelings can you just talk to me?!'
'Why would you change the subject like this?' Gladion raised an eyebrow 'And to something I'd die before talking to anyone about!'
Megan threw her head back, groaning at his attitude 'You can't keep doing this! You need to-
'I don't need to do anything!' Gladion growled 'I've survived without talking to you or anyone else!'
'You don't have to survive anymore!' Megan yelled 'Can't you just tell me what's going on? Or at least why you're acting so f*cking hostile!'
'Why do you even care so much? Just get over it already! I don't need to talk, and you can't make me do sh*t!'
'I care so much because I care about you! These past few days have been hard, and I've watched you become distant! I've had enough of that, and I've had enough of you keeping secrets! And why the hell can't you tell me? Do you seriously not trust me enough anymore?!'
'I'm not answering that. Just stop annoying me, Megan.' he scoffs 'This is not your problem.'
'Not my problem... not my problem?! I love you, Gladion so of course it's my problem to know why you have your head in your a**!'
Gladion groaned, gritting his teeth annoyed 'Megan just stop!'
'No! This little fiasco has gone on for long enough! It's hurting you, and it hurts me to watch you hurt! I've tried being patient with you, and I've tried waiting for you to open up! But you're just too f*cking stubborn and I can't take anymore of you being hurt over whatever this is!' Tears welled up in Megan's eyes, as she reached up to grip her hair 'I know it's probably all thanks to your mother and how she treated you to why you're-'
Megan was cut off, as Gladion grabbed her wrist. She looked at him, confused.
He stared back with a serious but slightly scared look. His eyes traveled to Megan's wrist, and he let go before backing up.
Why did he... Megan studied him, confused on why he did that.
'Leave my mother out of this.' He said in a shaky voice, and tears began rolling down his cheeks. He and Megan both knew about the vile things his mother did to him. She was selfish and horrible back then...
Megan's eyes widened.
He thought she was going to strike him.
Suddenly, the dream Megan had came back to her head. She was silent, and so was Gladion.
'I'd never think you'd hurt me.'
Now she knows... that was a lie.
Megan gritted her teeth, her tears had been falling for a while now and were leaving marks on the floor. Unconsciously, she spoke the words she'd never think to say.
'...Maybe everyone was right...' her voice got colder with every word. 'Maybe we shouldn't have gotten together...'
She ran out the room in tears, leaving Gladion frozen in time. Regret was the only thing on each of their minds, though what exactly they were regretting was a mystery. One thing was for certain though. This argument would impact everything hugely, no matter what move was to be made next.
(Leven POV)
'So... how much longer do you think it's going to take until we can grab her?' Pastel asked me, stamping on the cigarette she had just finished.
'Shouldn't be too much longer. It's a mess in that place, and our two lovebirds aren't so lovey anymore~' I smirked.
'Yeah you told me they could stay near each other. I'm so glad this is working.' Pastel giggled.
I raised an eyebrow 'Have my plans ever failed?'
'Do you really want me to answer that?'
Suddenly a crying person zipped right past us, causing our attention to land directly on them. It was a girl in a grey tank top and black leggings, with a blue lumberjack shirt tied around her waist. There was a scar running down the right side of her body... Megan.
'Now?' Pastel muttered, her eyes not losing sight of the girl.
I smirked, knowing this had to be the outcome of my plan.
'Now.' I answered, handing her a pair of black gloves.
(Megan POV)
I stopped running as soon as I made it to the beach, my lungs and legs burning from the large amount of exercise I just did. To my luck there was no one else around so they wouldn't see my f*cked up appearance. I fell to my knees and began crying out loud, gripping my hair tightly as tears fell onto the sand.
'He definitely hates me now! Way to go Megan!' I screamed to myself 'Why couldn't you have just kept your damn mouth shut from the start?!'
My entire journey with Gladion, from our first meeting up until now replayed in my head. We used to be so happy together, and now... I don't exactly know what'll happen now but I do know one thing; We f*cked up. Badly.
I hid my face in my hands, soaking them with the waterfall of tears that were coming out of my eyes. I was scared, really scared about losing the one person that made my life brighter.
'Megan?'
I flinched at the sound of my name, followed by footsteps in the sand which stopped right in front of me. I slowly looked up to see a familiar white haired woman.
'P-Pastel?' I asked shakily, attempting to dry my tears but failing. Pastel kneeled in front of me and placed a hand on my shoulder.
'Why are you crying?' She asked softly
'I... I think I just ruined my relationship with Gladion.'
'...How?'
'I took something too far. I know he hates talking about his problems, yet I pushed him to tell me... Because I was so set on making things right between us. Guess how well that went.' I chuckled bitterly.
'You poor thing...' Pastel whispered, enveloping me in her arms. I didn't hug back, but I didn't pull away either. I heard her sigh 'I'm sorry...'
'What for?' I asked in my shaky voice.
'This.'
She quickly grabbed my hands behind my back and used something to bind them, probably handcuffs, before letting go of me and standing up. She placed a hand on her hip and smirked down on me.
'W-What are you doing?!' I cried, trying to break free from my restraints.
Pastel's smirk widened 'Sorry sweetie, you had this coming to you. It's really nothing personal.'
'We're just doing our job.' Another voice behind me finished for her, this time a male. I recognised it, but I didn't know where from. I felt two hands grab me, pulling me up to standing position. I tried screaming, but the person covered my mouth with his hand which I now knew was gloved.
I felt something hard hit me in the back of the head, causing my entire world to spin and eventually go dark. The last thing I knew before passing out completely, was feeling the person holding me hoisting me up over his shoulder.
(Rose POV)
I was walking down the beach path with my Luxray, just enjoying the sound of the waves as we felt the sand under our feet. But, suddenly I saw a rather disturbing scene a few feet away. Two people looked like they were kidnapping someone, as one had just knocked out a girl. He hoisted the limp body round the waist and slung her over his shoulder. Wait... I recognise those people...
'Leven...? Pastel...?' I whispered as I watched the two have a mini conversation before turning to leave. This allowed me to get a good look at the person they were holding... My eyes widened.
'Megan?!'
Luxray growled and attempted to run at them, only to be stopped by my hand against her chest. She looked at me confused, as I just shook my head at her.
'We have to tell the others.' I told her, she tried protesting but I interrupted her 'Would you rather us getting captured and our friends not having any clue on what happened to us?!'
Luxray slowly shook her head.
'Then we are going to tell the others!'
The large Pokemon sighed, before picking me up by the collar of my shirt with her teeth and throwing me onto her back. She began running towards Aether Paradise.
Hang in there, Meg...
