Chapter 25: They break

(Third POV)

'-And if you would look over there, kids, you will find two Rhyhorn.' Megan stated with a smile, taking one of her hands away from the clipboard she was holding to point to her right. The group of Elementary schoolers turned their heads eagerly to gaze upon the Pokemon she mentioned. As said, two Rhyhorn were grazing in a nearby area. They were the same size, but you could still tell them apart as one had a scar running over his horn. The kids gasped in awe.

'Soo cool!'

'They're so big!'

'I wanna pet them!'

Megan giggled at their reactions before continuing her lecture 'Those two actually came out of the same egg. Can anyone tell me what that makes them?' she asked the group (Idec if that's not possible. It's my story and I can do whatever the f*ck I please!)

A girl shot her hand up, bouncing off her heels slightly to try and get the adults attention.

'Yes, sweetie?' Megan nods to the child.

'It makes them twins!' she squealed.

'That's right! Those Rhyhorn are twin brothers, and only came to the paradise a couple of months ago.' Megan grinned 'The one with the scar's called Gintaras and his brother's called Keiichi.'

The Rhyhorn lifted their heads once they heard their names, and Megan waved at them causing them to purr happily. The kids giggled happily and ran to the railings, hoping to get a better look.

Megan let out a deep breath, pushing back any loose hair as she currently had her hair in a bun. She was required to look as grown up as possible for this. Keeping kids entertained was hard, especially when she had one of her own on its way. A woman with black hair and amber eyes scooted next to her and smiled. She was the teacher in charge of this trip.

'You're doing great!' She complimented the Vice-president.

'Thanks, Aphena.' Megan gave her a tired smile 'Though it is really hard to keep up this outgoing facade...'

'Trust me, it's even harder when you're me. I have to do it all day every day.'

'Yikes.'

Aphena huffed, before smiling again 'Thanks again for letting us have our class trip here, and hosting it.'

'It's really no problem. Trust me compared to the other things that have been going on around here, this is a walk in the park.' Megan joked.

'You mean with two of your employees missing?'

'Something like that.'

Aphena raised an eyebrow at her, but shrugged it off. It was better not to ask she thought. 'Well anyway, this trip is just about over. Though the kids really want to meet President Gladion before they go.'

Megan's breath hitched at the mention of Gladion's name. She desperately wanted to avoid him for as long as possible if she could. However, she wanted to make this visit as enjoyable as possible for the students. God dammit...

'Of course.' She told Aphena with a fake smile 'I'll send someone to fetch him so when everyone's done looking at the Pokemon, they can meet him.'

'Really? Oh my gosh, vice-president Megan-'

'Just Megan's fine, Aph.'

'Oh, sorry. Still, you're making this day amazing for my students!'

Megan smiled again, this time genuine 'That's what I was aiming for.'

An employee walked past, only to be stopped by a tap on his shoulder. He turned around with a raised eyebrow, only to straighten up once he saw who it was 'V-Vice president! What can I do for you?'

'Well for starters you can relax.' Megan laughed 'And do you think you can fetch Gladion? The class wants to meet him before they leave.'

The employee nodded and ran off to find the President, leaving Megan feeling slightly nervous. 'He better not mess this up.' She thought.

'Hey, miss?' One of the kids called, waving at Megan.

'Yes?' She responded while walking up next to him. He pointed to something.

'What's that Pokemon? The black one with blue rings.'

Megan followed his finger until her gaze landed on a familiar dark type. She gave the child a small smile.

'That's my Umbreon, sweetie. His name's Prince.'

The boy tilted his head 'But... aren't Umbreon's rings yellow?'

'Well, yes. Usually anyway.' Megan laughed 'Prince is a shiny.'

'What's a shiny?'

'Oh, well you see, shinies are basically Pokemon with different colouring to normal. Apart from that, they're just like the others. Prince other there is no exception.'

'I heard that! I ain't average!'

Megan secretly smirked at Prince's irritation, before going back to smiling at the boy 'Does that make sense?'

'I guess... Are shiny Pokemon kind of like albino people? My older brother's an albino and he has weird colouring too!' He said with a cheeky grin.

Megan opened her mouth to answer, but was interrupted by a cough. Turning around she was met with emerald eyes. The eyes she used to be overjoyed to see. Now she had mixed emotions.

'You asked for me?' He spoke monotonously. It was rather cold.

Megan sighed, excusing herself from the conversation with the student and walking over to Gladion. She didn't smile like she usually did around him, and neither did he.

'The students wanted to meet you during their trip. I was only asking for you on their behalf.' She told him with a frown.

Gladion nodded with no emotion 'I guess I should fulfill their wish then.'

'Yes. Oh, and as far as they know we're a happy couple.' She whispered to him 'So act like nothing's wrong, got it?'

'Fine...'

'Good.' She turned to Aphena, who was watching the kids closely 'Hey, Aphena, could you come over here for a second?'

The woman turned her head, her eyes brightening once she saw Gladion. She walked over to the two and smiled 'You must be President Gladion?'

'Just Gladion is fine.' Gladion responded, giving her the most convincing smile he could as he stretched out his hand 'It's nice to meet you, Miss...'

'Phoenix. Miss Phoenix.' Aphena told him, shaking his hand politely 'It's nice to meet you too. Thank you for allowing the students to come here.'

'Well, if it helps them understand Pokemon better we're more than happy to let them.'

'Very true.' Aphena laughed 'Is it okay if I call them over now?'

'No problem.'

'I'm glad. Class!' She called to the class, getting their attention 'There's someone I'd like you to meet.'

The kids speed walked over, giving Gladion confused looks as they stopped in front of the three adults. Aphena cleared her throat.

'Guys, this is the President of the Aether Foundation. Everyone, meet Gladion.'

'Hi, Gladion!' They chorused.

'Hey, guys.' Gladion waved, giving them a big smile.

(Timeskip)

The two Presidents of Aether watched the ship carrying the elementary students leave in silence, neither saying a word to each other. As soon as the vessel was out of sight Gladion turned to leave, only to be tripped by something.

Megan snickered and retracted her foot 'Whoops~' She sang.

Gladion stood up straight, clenching his fists in anger as he stared at the girl. Her back remained turned to him, but he knew she was pleased with herself. Not being able to hold himself back anymore he violently grabbed the collar of Megan's shirt and pulled her back, pushing her against a wall and trapping her by slamming his hands against it. Her blue eyes were wide as she stared up at him.

'W-What are you-'

'Apologise.'

'What?'

'Did I stutter?'

Megan shivered at his cold tone of voice, yet she couldn't bring herself to look away from his piercing stare. This was Gladion, right? So why did she feel so scared right now?

'I-I'm sorry...' She whispered.

He roughly grabbed her chin and forced her head up, making her wince in pain. 'What was that?' He spat.

'I said I'm sorry.' She repeated louder.

Gladion pulled away quickly, finally realising he was hurting her. Megan held her chin, her eyes fixed to the floor. Gladion furrowed his brows, ashamed at his own actions, and slowly reached up to touch the girl's cheek. The girl flinched away as soon as his fingers grazed her skin, looking up at the boy with fear. The last thing he ever wanted her to look at him with.

The girl opened her mouth to speak but closed it, only to open it again and say 'I-I have to go!'

She brushed past Gladion, not sparing him another glance as she left him with his guilt. She was guilty too, but she didn't know how to express it. The only thing she could do now was lock herself in her office... And cry.

'What have we come to?' They both thought to themselves.

(Lillie POV)

'Wickie?'

I knock onto the woman's door, hoping she would be in there as I had something I really needed to talk to her about. To my relief the door opened, and Wickie stood in front of me. Her glasses were off and her hair was up in a messy bun. My guess she was about to hop into the shower. Her eyes widened as soon as she saw my tear stained face.

'Miss Lillie, why are you crying?' She asked softly, giving me a sympathetic look.

I wiped my eyes and sniffled 'M-Megan and Gladion... T-They're scaring m-me...'

Wickie immediately pulled me into the room and hugged me tightly, shushing me softly as I cried. She lead me to her bed and sat me down, pulling over a chair and sitting in front of me. 'What did they do?' She asked softly.

'I-I think... I think Megan attacked Gladion last night... They implied it while they were fighting this morning... And- And while I was walking around the docks I saw Gladion pin Megan to a wall. He looked like he was hurting her!' By this point fresh tears were rolling down my face 'I've never seen them act this way! I-I know they're mad at each other, b-but Hau and I are never this hostile when we fight!'

'Oh Lillie...' Wickie sighed, holding my hand in a motherly way 'You have to understand, those two have emotions that are way more unstable than yours and Hau's. You know why, right?'

I shook my head.

She squeezed my hand lightly 'When people break, they find their emotions way harder to control. So they tend to lock them away. But that makes it ten times harder to control them when they are let loose. This is exactly what's happening with the young master and mistress.'

'Oh... Then, why hasn't it happened before?'

'Because they had each other.' She explained 'But, now that they're against each other they have no one to help them.'

I grip onto my skirt. 'D-does this mean... they're going to hate each other soon?'

'I don't know, dear. We can only hope that's not the case.'
