Chapter 9

Angelina's Point of View:

I can’t believe it’s already the 17th of July. It’s been almost a month since summer started and since I met the brothers. I can honestly say that I’ve got to know them better. At first, I didn’t really like them but now, it’s the complete opposite.

“I’ll race you downstairs!” Liam screamed and I snapped my head around to see him running like a five year old.

“Oh no, you don’t,” I muttered as I took off after him. Trying to pass him on the stairs was harder than I expected. I tried to push the childish boy but he ended up pushing me much harder that I tripped on the last stair.

A surprised squeal escaped my lips and I held onto Liam so that I wouldn’t fall but his push was so damn strong that we both ended up falling.

“You’re so stupid,” I muttered as I tried to stand up.

“You’re stupid,” he crossed his arms over his chest sounding like a kid. I glared at him and he glared back and that is how, of course, our staring competition began. I stared into his blue eyes waiting for him to blink as he did the same thing to me.

“You two are so childish,” I heard Lee say, amusement clear in his voice. I wasn’t going to lose that staring competition.

I narrowed my eyes slightly at the blond boy in front of me. Suddenly a hand covered my whole face making me jerk backwards in surprise. I blinked at looked up to see Drew smirking at us and covering both of our faces with his large hands.

I scowled at him for ruining the staring competition and held out my hand as if ordering him to help me up. He rolled his eyes at me but pulled me back to my feet nonetheless. I muttered a quick ‘thanks’ as I walked into the other room and turned on the T.V. The brothers trailed behind me and I tried to find something to watch but there wasn’t anything good on.

“That tree is perfect for a treehouse.” I turned my head to look at Drew who was standing by the window, looking at a tree in my backyard. This tree has been there ever since I can remember.

“I know,” I answered with a small smile. Dad and I wanted to build a treehouse when I was around nine but during that summer, there were many family problems and we never got the chance to do so. I secretly still wanted one.

“Let’s build one then,” Drew shrugged as if it were the simplest thing in the world. I stared at him, surprised by his statement.

“Do you even know how to build a treehouse?” I asked, raising an eyebrow at him.

“We built one with dad when we were kids,” he spaced out for a few seconds as if remembering the incident. When his flashback was over he spoke again. “I’m sure we can build one.”

“I can sketch it if you want just so we can know what we’re doing,” Lee offered. I thought about it for a while. It would be really awesome if we were able to build a treehouse.

“Alright,” I finally decided “You start sketching and I’ll get the boards, nails, and the tools we need.”

“We’ll help you.” Liam and Drew offered and I nodded as we went up to the third floor.

Right next to the music room was a room filled with tools like the ones we needed for the treehouse. I switched on the lights and looked around the messy room.

“Um Liam can you carry this bag downstairs and put it next to the tree outside?” I told the blonde brother who nodded and carried the black plastic bag which had the nails and a couple of hammers and tools in it.

Liam’s footsteps faded as he walked back down. It was just me and Drew now, collecting boards. I filled a huge bag with boards but I wasn’t able to carry it and I wasn’t sure if Drew would be able to. I spun around to ask him to try and a little squeak escaped my lips when I saw him standing right behind me. He was so close that my face almost collided with his chest.

He chuckled slightly and I could see his chest vibrating. I swallowed loudly, feeling my cheeks burn but I couldn’t step back. It was like I was stuck in my place. He slowly leaned down so that his face was in front of mine, only inches away. I stopped breathing and my brain stopped functioning. His blue eyes were darker than usual yet they were still blank. It was so hard to read him but I didn’t know if it was because of his blank expression or my brain wasn’t functioning due to his close proximity. He moved even closer and just as his lips were about to touch mine, he moved his head and decided to whisper in my ear instead.

“These shorts make you look so hot.”

My heart thudded in my chest as he lingered there with his cheek barely touching mine. Push him away, my brain said but I didn’t have the power to comply. He suddenly backed away and straightened his spine. When I looked at him, a smirk spread across his lips and I kept on repeating to myself that what he says doesn’t mean anything. He’s a player, he flirts a lot. But no matter what I thought, I couldn’t stop my heart from beating faster.

I turned my head away from him, making sure to keep my expression blank. As soon as my brain started functioning again, I remembered what I wanted to ask him.

“Um can you carry this bag or is it too heavy?” I asked, looking anywhere but at him. He picked up the bag and I was mesmerized by how his muscles flexed as he lifted the heavy items up. I forced myself to look away as he flashed me a cocky grin.

“Nope it’s not heavy.” He just stood there, holding the heavy bag as if it were a feather.

“Uh you can take it outside,” I told him and he nodded before walking out of the room just as Liam walked back in.

For the next fifteen minutes, we kept on filling bags and taking them down till it was enough to build a treehouse. Lee was soon done with sketching the treehouse and we got to work.

The first thing we did was put the rope ladder so that we could climb up the tree. Then we started nailing boards next to each other. After a while, we had the platform done so we were able to stand on it. It was big enough to fit at least seven people and I’m glad it was.

For the next hour or so we worked together to build the walls. We made them high enough so that we could fit inside without hitting our heads.

The roof was the hardest but with a bit of hard work, we were able to construct it perfectly.

“Let’s take a break,” I suggested “We’ll order pizza and drink some lemonade then we’ll continue.”

They all agreed because we were already tired and the sun was now I the middle of the sky making the weather even hotter.

I ordered a large pizza and went to the kitchen to prepare lemonade juice. The boys each drank three glasses of cool lemonade before the pizza arrived.

After resting for a couple of hours, we decided to continue our work. Drew and Liam were constructing the stairs and door while Lee and I were painting the outside walls of the treehouse. We decided to paint it a beautiful shade of blue. I enjoyed painting the treehouse and the time passed by quickly because we were having fun while building it.

The stairs they build were much more comfortable and safer than the rope ladder. And the door, which we painted red like the roof, fit perfectly. I nodded appreciatively and the three brothers grinned proudly.

Around seven, the sun was setting and we were just done with our work. We all stood under the tree, admiring our work.

“Wow,” I was the first one to speak “I didn’t expect it to turn out this pretty.”

I saw them nod mutely as they stared in awe at the treehouse. It was a big block of blue with small windows on each wall. The roof and the door were painted the same shade of red and it looked warm and comfortable.

“Tomorrow, when the paint dries, we’ll take up a couple of small tables and plastic chairs.” I said my thoughts out loud and they grinned enthusiastically at the idea.

“So tomorrow we’ll work a bit on the treehouse and we can sit there and just chill at night,” Liam said as he smiled up at the treehouse.

“Yep, now I’m off to take a shower then I’ll cook us some dinner,” I said as I walked up to my room to take a cold shower after all the hard work.

I sighed when the ice cold water hit my back. Building the treehouse was so tiring, I thought. I’m definitely sleeping early tonight. I turned off the water when I was done. I then wrapped myself in a pink towel. My hair was dripping but I ignored it as I opened the bathroom door and walked into my room.

I screeched when I saw the three brothers in my room. Liam was sitting on my spinning chair, Lee was on the floor reading a car magazine, and Drew was lying on my bed.

All three heads shot up to look at me. Lee blushed furiously and jumped up. He also tripped on his way back to his room. Liam laughed awkwardly and blushed just as Lee did and ran out of the room. Drew smirked but I didn’t miss his slightly red cheeks.

“Get out!” I screamed at him. My cheeks were now surely a shade of bright red. He stood up agonizingly slow on purpose just to make me angrier and more embarrassed.

“Andrew Turner get out this instant!” I finally screamed and he ran out of the room. I let out a sigh of relief as the door shut behind him. I put on my white cotton shorts and green tank top before brushing my hair and drying it a bit with the towel.

I wondered why Drew looked anywhere but at me when he was leaving my room. And why did he blush like that? It’s like he was trying to act as if he’s a player when he’s really not one.

I pushed these thoughts aside convincing myself that he definitely is a player. I know a player when I see one.

I walked back downstairs where I could hear the brothers’ voices coming from the kitchen. I could make out what they were saying as I got closer. I heard Lee say: “You really changed.” I frowned slightly. Who was he talking to? “Yeah,” Liam then said. “And we’re glad you did,” was Lee’s final response.

My frown deepened. They were obviously talking to Drew, but what did they mean by ‘you changed’? I walked into the kitchen when they stopped talking, pretending that I didn’t hear anything even though what I heard didn’t make any sense to me.

When they saw me, the blushed slightly and Lee cleared his throat awkwardly. I wanted to laugh at how uncomfortable they were but that would be mean so I pretended not to notice. I wasn’t completely naked so it’s not that bad.

“So what do you guys want for dinner?” I asked them as I sat in the chair next to Drew. They all shrugged in response, not really caring about what they were going to be fed.

“We’ll just make some ham and cheese sandwiches,” Lee suggested. Liam and Drew nodded and I was glad they agreed because I didn’t feel like cooking. I prepared the sandwiches and we had dinner together just like a normal family would.

We chatted while eating and I was glad that it wasn’t awkward anymore. I wanted to know what they meant when they were talking with Drew earlier but I refrained myself from asking. I didn’t want to be nosy.

“I dare you to drink this whole glass of water,” Liam grinned at me and I stared at the long glass in front of me.

I don’t drink water a lot and if I ever drank a lot, I would feel nauseous. But I always do the dares. I never back out and I’m not going to start now because of a glass of water.

“Fine,” I said giving Liam a determined look.

I held the glass and started drinking. It felt as if it were endless. I could feel the cold water moving down my throat. I took a deep breath and slammed the glass on the table when I drank it all.

They cheered a bit and laughed at me as I groaned when the nausea hit me.

“I hate you,” I mumbled as I took deep breathes to stop the nausea. Liam just laughed harder at me, his blue eyes shining with amusement as I glared at him.

I felt better soon and we were back to bickering and making fun of each other. That night, I noticed that I haven’t been this happy in years and that was because I haven’t felt this loved for years.
