Chapter 6

Angelina's Point of View:

Finally, Thursday is here! I haven’t gone to the beach yet this year and today I was going with my friends –and the Turner brothers of course– to spend a day at the beach.

“Wakeeee up!” I sang loudly as I opened the door of the guest room. It flew open and a loud ‘Bang’ echoed through the room as the door hit the wall. I winced slightly but the huge grin was still on my face.

It’s been around a week since the brothers came here and we have gotten pretty close.

They all groaned at the same time making me chuckle.

“Come on guys!” I chirped happily “Beach day!”

“Five more minutes,” Drew groaned, burying his head in his pillow. He looked like such innocent little kid that you would never believe he is the player/bad boy.

I shook my head at him, “Come on guys! We don’t want to be late.”

Lee was the first one to sit up in his bed. His dark hair was messed up and he rubbed his eyes tiredly.

“Good morning,” he mumbled.

“Morning,” I beamed at him.

“Why are you so happy?” Drew grunted moodily. I moved my gaze to look at him. He was sitting in his bed wearing nothing but a pair of shorts. My eyes involuntarily glued to his chest.

Don’t judge. If you saw a shirtless guy as hot as Drew you would seriously drool.

Snap out of it Angelina, I scolded myself. Thank god he was still sleepy and didn’t notice me staring.

I cleared my throat and answered his previous question.

“Because we’re going to the beach!” I squealed.

“You just love the beach, don’t you?” Liam was the one who spoke now.

“Yep,” I answered “That’s why you have to hurry!”

Suddenly, a pillow hit me square in the face and I blinked a couple of times.

“What the hell?” I snapped at Drew.

“Your happiness in the morning is annoying,” he replied as his head fell back on his pillow.

I rolled my eyes at him and pulled the thin cover off him.

“Wake up!” I said stubbornly sounding like a five year old.

I sat on my knees on the side of his bed. I jumped up and down making the whole bed bounce.

Suddenly, his hands wrapped around my waist and he pulled me down roughly. I let out an ‘oof’ as my head collided with his pillow

I struggled under his grip.

“Let me go,” I told him.

“No,” he said with his eyes closed. His hand was still around my waist, pinning me to the bed.

I let out an irritated sigh. If his arm is huge it doesn’t mean that he is stronger than me. I’ll show him.

Suddenly, I raised my hand and hit him on his cheek. The sound of the slap echoed through the room as his eyes flew open. He quickly removed his hand from my waist to hold his cheek.

“What the hell?” He snapped angrily.

“That’ll teach you to do what I ask for next time,” I snapped back.

I glared at him for a few seconds then I stood up and faced the other two stunned brothers.

“Now get ready because we’re leaving soon.”

I grinned at them and then I turned around to leave. I stopped a bit when I heard Drew mutter, “She’s bipolar.”

I decided that it was not worth another fight so I just went back to my room to get dressed.

I put on my black bikini with red flowers on it. It was my favorite. I then wore a light green dress above them. I shoved the things I needed to take with me into my green beach bag. I put on my white sunglasses and white hat before trotting downstairs to prepare breakfast.

While preparing pop tarts, I could hear the shuffling of the brothers from upstairs. That was a good sign because it meant that they were getting ready.

As soon as I was done preparing everyone’s breakfast, the brothers came into the kitchen all dressed and ready to go.

I smiled at them and we had a quick breakfast. When we were done with cleaning, the doorbell rang and I rushed to open the door.

All my five best friends were there. Greg, Jack, and Nate were leaving for their camp tomorrow so we all decided to go to the beach today.

“Hey,” they all said simultaneously and I grinned at them.

I grinned cheekily at Mia when I saw her looking at Lee shyly.

“Let’s go!” I said. The brothers went with me in my car, Tia and Mia went in theirs, and the three guys went in Nate’s car.

We pulled out of my driveway and drove to the beach. It was a twenty minute drive from my house to the beach.

Drew was sitting in the passenger seat. Lee and Liam were at the back with all our bags. I turned on the radio and Katy Perry’s song ‘The One That Got Away’ started.

Suddenly, Drew started singing.

“In another life, I would be your girl, we keep all our promises. Be us against the world.”

I started laughing along with his brothers at the song choice. But I have to say, his voice is beautiful.

“In another life, I would make you stay. So I don’t have to say you were the one that got away. The one that got away.”

“Wow Drew you have a nice voice. But the song is not exactly what I imagined you singing,” I teased him.

He laughed a little and shrugged.

We got to the beach and my friends and I parked our three cars next to each other. We walked on the sand till we found a perfect spot. We put our towels and bags on the sand.

Mia and Tia laid on their towels under the sun like they always do. I, on the other hand, preferred to swim. When I sit in the sun for a long time I get a terrible headache. So the water was much better. Every summer, when we come to the beach, Tia and Mia would sun bathe most of the time while me and the guys would go swimming.

All six guys took of their shirts and I stared a little. Liam and Greg sprinted to the sea and I smiled a little. They are both so childish. I’m sure they’ll get along.

Lee sat next to Mia and they started talking. So cute!

Then I quickly took off my dress so that I could go swimming with the rest of the guys because they were all a bit impatient.

I tied my hair in a ponytail and took off my sunglasses.

When I turned around again, I saw Drew, Jack, and Nate staring at me.

“What?” I asked, feeling slightly self-conscious.

Nate was the first one to speak, “You look different. You’ve grown up since last summer.”

“Yeah you did. A lot.” Jack added.

Drew was still staring but he had a distant look in his eyes. I knew that he was thinking of something else but I didn’t know what it was.

I rolled my eyes at my two friends and said, “Of course I’ve grown.”

“Now let’s go swim!” I said after a moment of silence.

Nate and Jack nodded enthusiastically and started walking to the water. I followed them but when I noticed that Drew was still in the same place as before, I stopped.

He had the same distant look in his eyes.

“Drew?” I called out and he blinked, returning back to the present.

“Yeah?” he asked, his voice a little weird.

“Are you okay?” I asked.

It took him a while to reply. His eyes turned back to being blank but I could see a bit of emotions buried in them.

“I’m fine,” he smirked.

I eyed him skeptically making it clear that I didn’t believe him.

He shook his head slightly as he took my hand and started running to the inviting blue water. I didn’t have a problem keeping up with him because I was a fast runner.

The sun was high in the sky making the blue water sparkle. I was so happy to finally get to the beach. Sure it was nothing compared to the beach at our beach house but still it was good enough for now.

I swam around a bit, enjoying the feeling of the cool water against my skin.

Suddenly, I felt someone catching my legs. I turned my head and saw that it was Nate. Before I could order him to let go of my legs, he pulled me backwards, closer to him. Then he held me by my waist and lifted me up. I struggled in his big hands but I couldn’t escape his tight grip.

I screamed at him but he just laughed. He placed me on his back and I started hitting him but he wasn’t fazed.

His blond hair was a shade darker because of the water and it stuck to his forehead. He looked hot and that made us attract even more attention.

“Put me down!” I hissed at him but he didn’t reply.

He kept on walking in the water with me on his back.

“Just enjoy the ride Angelina,” he joked and I hit him harder even though I was enjoying this. It was fun.

My eyes locked with Drew’s for a bit. He was frowning slightly and I think I saw a little anger in his eyes. I think.

I tilted my head to the side, questioning his look.

His frown deepened and before I could analyze it more, I was throw back into the water. I let out a little squeak of surprise before I fell into the water.

I went back up to the surface and glared at Nate who was laughing at me.

“You’re mean,” I whined.

“And hungry,” he added “Let’s go eat.”

I rolled my eyes at him and said, “Go ahead. I’ll call the rest.”

He nodded and went out of the water. I would’ve gone with him directly but I secretly wanted to know what was up with Drew. I swam to where he was in the water.

He saw me nearing him and then he did something I wasn’t expecting. He swam away.

I stopped for a second, stunned and hurt. Yeah, I get hurt easily and over silly things.

I narrowed my eyes at his retreating figure and then I started swimming faster to catch up with him. Even though my legs were much tinier than his, I was a faster swimmer.

When I got next to him, he slowed down and eventually he stopped swimming. As soon as he stopped, I did too.

“Why are you swimming away from me?” I blurted out bluntly.

“I’m not,” he said in a voice that clearly showed that he was lying.

I frowned up at him. He glared at me and I dropped my gaze. Ha glared at me many times before but this time, his glare was scarier and more serious.

“Umm I just wanted to tell you that we’re going to have lunch now,” I mumbled, without lifting my gaze. Then I spun around and swam back to the shore.

Everyone was already out of the water. Drew followed closely behind.

We walked to the small hot dog kiosk at the right. It had the best hot dogs and the owner, Mr. Kyle was awesome!

“Mr. Kyle!” I exclaimed when I saw the chubby man. He was around fifty years old but he was as innocent as a child.

“Angelina! I’ve missed you dear. How have you been?” He smiled at me. I haven’t seen him since last summer.

“I’m good. And you?” I asked politely.

“Great as usual,” he gave me a smile, showing me his crooked teeth.

I grinned back.

“What can I get you today?” he asked.

“Eight hot dogs please,” I said. We were nine but Mia and Tia eat half each because it’s a huge sandwich. I don’t mind though.

“Coming right up,” he said as he started preparing the hot dogs.

Five minutes later, he gave me a tray with the eight hot dogs on it.

“Thank you,” I told him and handed him the money.

“You’re welcome dear,” he smiled as I walked back to my friends.

I placed the tray between us and we took a sandwich each. Drew was sitting across from me and I felt him stare at me for a long time.

I finally glanced at him for a bit before dropping my gaze again, not allowing him to say anything.

Why did he frown at me? Why did he swim away? Why did he glare at me like that? I didn’t know what I did and that made it worse.

When we were done eating, we just sat around a bit and talked. I avoided Drew at all costs. At least till I was able to find out what I did wrong.

“Let’s go for a swim,” Greg suggested and everyone agreed except me.

“As usual,” Nate rolled his eyes at me.

“Yeah Angelina. Come on, swimming during sunset is the best,” Jack said.

“No thanks,” I told them. I like sitting on the sand and watching the sunset.

They all ran to the water but Drew didn’t go with them.

I didn’t question his decision, though. The breeze ruffled my hair and I took in a deep breath enjoying the scent of the beach.

I brought my legs up to my chest and hugged them, placing my chin on my knees.

The sun was now like a huge rock on fire. It was orange yet it was sending rays of purple and pink. It was beautiful.

“I’m sorry.”

I jumped slightly at the sound of his voice even though it was a whisper.

“Um for what?” I said, not making eye contact with him. Did he notice that his scowl hurt me?

“For glaring at you earlier,” he spoke and I glanced at him. His eyes looked apologetic and that surprised me.

“Uh it’s okay,” I said, shifting my gaze to the sun. It’s really no big deal. Sure it hurt me but that’s because I get hurt over silly things.

“No it’s not,” he said as he placed his hand on my cheek and turned my face so that my eyes connected with his.

“I shouldn’t have glared at you. I-I was just being stupid,” he said. I stared at him incredulously. That was a side of him I didn’t knew existed.

“Really Drew its okay,” I smiled at him so that he believes me.

He visibly relaxed and grinned back.

We then watched the sunset in comfortable silence, my brain still not registering the face that Drew had such a good side.

Soon, it was time to leave. I put on my dress again and shoved all my things into my bag.

I hugged my friends and then I climbed into my car with the Turner brothers.

I turned on the radio and grinned when I heard the song that was playing. I loved this song.

I sang along with the chorus of ‘You Will Never Know’ by Imany

“You will never know I will never show what I feel, what I need from you no. You will never know, I will never show what I feel, what I need from you.”

“You have a nice voice,” Lee commented, sounding a bit stunned.

Yeah, I can sing.

“Thanks,” I grinned at him.

Drew snorted, “I’m so much better.”

I rolled my eyes at him and just like that, the old Drew was back. And for once, I felt that he wasn’t that bad. In fact, I think I’m starting to like his attitude.
