Chapter 17
Chapter 17
Angelina's Point of View:
My alarm beeped loudly and I flew off my bed. I groaned when I landed on the ground, with my right arm under me. I stopped the alarm and glared at it. Why did it even scare me that much?
Suddenly, the door opened and I looked up to see Lee standing there. His panicked eyes widened as he stared at me.
“What happened?” He questioned.
“Stupid alarm,” I grumbled as I sat up and pulled my tank top down to cover my now exposed stomach.
“You fell off your bed?” he said, his voice now amused.
“Shut up!” I snapped at him, embarrassed as a blush crept onto my cheeks. “It scared me.”
He burst out laughing as I stood up and glared at him.
“Why are you up on your own anyway?” I asked, changing the topic.
He just shrugged but I saw the slightly embarrassed look on his face. I smiled mischievously at him and waggled my eyebrows.
“Excited to see Mia?”
“I-I…” he trailed off, blushing.
“Aww,” I cooed “She’ll be here soon.”
He looked away, his cheeks still blazing.
“Tell your brothers to wake up,” I told him “I’m going to prepare breakfast.”
He nodded and went back to the room he was sharing with his older brothers. I tied my hair up in a loose bun and went downstairs.
As soon as I set the four plates of pancakes on the table, the three brothers walked in. Liam grinned when he saw the food and quickly took his plate and started eating. I rolled my eyes at him.
“Good morning,” I said happily.
“Morning,” Drew yawned and Liam just grunted in response. Drew was only wearing sweatpants. I was glad he was still sleepy. That way he wouldn’t notice me staring at his chest.
I shook my head to clear my thoughts and took a seat next to Liam. We ate our breakfast silently but a million thoughts were running through my mind. I was so excited for camp.
I did the dishes before going upstairs to get dressed. I put on my dark blue jeans and light blue T-shirt. I brushed my teeth and then put my toothbrush and toothpaste in my black bag. I double checked that I had all the stuff I needed before zipping my bag. As if on cue, my cell phone beeped. I read the text from Mia:
We’re on our way.
I glanced at the watch on my cell phone’s screen. It read 8:45a.m. Not two minutes later, I received the same text from Nate.
Ten minutes later, the doorbell rang. I carried my bag and went downstairs to open the front door. To my surprise, Lee was already there.
He ran up to Mia and kissed her as soon as he saw her. I smiled at the cute couple while Tia made gagging noises. I elbowed her and she scowled playfully at me.
At 9:00a.m sharp, we were all ready to go. Tia, Mia, and Lee went in the twins’ car, Jack and Greg went n Jack’s car, and Drew, Liam, Nate, and I went in my car.
Nate was supposed to go with Jack and Greg but he insisted on riding with me. I didn’t mind though.
I closed the trunk of my car and that’s when I noticed Drew and Nate having a staring competition on the right side of my car. I raised my eyebrow at them and turned to Liam which was watching them amusedly.
He shrugged, a smirk on his lips. He then opened the door of my car and sat in the backseat. I cleared my throat loudly so that they could hear me.
Drew’s head snapped to the right to look at me but Nate kept on glaring at him. I gave them a questioning look and Drew turned back to Nate. Nate gave him a smug smirk and Drew narrowed his eyes at him.
“What’s going on?” I asked.
“Nothing,” they both said at the same time and I snorted.
“Very convincing,” I muttered. Nate laughed and ruffled my hair. I grinned up at him and he smiled back. I felt Drew’s gaze on me and when I looked at him, he was glaring at me. My eyes widened in surprise and he suddenly snapped out of it and fixed a blank look. I sighed.
“Let’s go,” I finally said when I noticed that it was impossible for me to read Drew right now.
I slipped into the driver’s seat and put on my seatbelt. Nate sat in the passenger seat and the two brothers sat in the backseats.
I started the car and turned on the radio before pulling out of my driveway.
“I missed you Angelina,” Nate suddenly said and I smiled.
“Can’t stay away from me?” I teased.
“Yeah,” he answered, smirking “I miss seeing you every day.”
“Except in the mornings,” I joked and he laughed.
“I never thought I’d say this but I actually did miss you snappy attitude in the morning.”
I burst out laughing. “That’s a lie. Do you remember that time when I punched you in the morning? That bruise stayed for a week!”
“That was partially my fault, I ruffled your feathers” he laughed “But it did hurt.”
“Yeah sorry about that,” I said, blushing slightly. I can’t believe I punched him that day just because he was teasing me.
“I can’t say I didn’t see it coming,” he joked “Besides you hit like a guy so I knew it would hurt.”
“Hey!” I protested “You’re the one who taught me how to hit like that.”
“I know,” he said proudly “But I taught you that so you could punch the guys who annoy you.”
“You were one of those guys that day,” I pointed out and he laughed. When we were kids, Nate was so protective of me – he still is. Anyway, he used to teach me how to fight and he also taught me how to be able to have clever comebacks all the times. I was an expert now.
I heard Drew grumble something and I looked at him through my rearview mirror. When our gazes connected, he turned to look out of the window. Liam on the other hand, smirked.
What was going on?
I brushed the thought away. It’s probably one of his moody moments.
“Can I tell you a joke?” Nate asked, a grin on his face.
“No,” I said quickly “Not another one of your lame jokes.”
Nate had the lamest jokes on earth.
“Please,” he pouted adorably.
“Fine,” I reluctantly agreed “Only one.”
“Okay!” He grinned widely.
“What did the ghost say to the wall?” He started and I rolled my eyes “Hey just passing through.” And he burst out laughing.
God, that was so lame!
“Why aren’t you laughing?” Nate asked when he sobered up.
“Are you seriously asking me that?” I gave him an incredulous look “That was the lamest joke ever!”
“Whatever,” he grumbled, crossing his arms over his chest. I silently laughed at him.
James Blunt’s song ‘You’re Beautiful’ played on the radio. I love this song! I hummed to the tune of the song. Suddenly, when the chorus started, Nate started singing.
“You’re beautiful,
You’re beautiful,
You’re beautiful,
It’s true.
I saw your face,
In a crowded place,
And I don’t know what to do,
‘Cause I’ll never be with you.”
I bit my lip to stop myself from laughing at his horrible voice. But instead of laughing, I decided to sing along with him.
“Yeah she caught my eye,
As we walked on by.
She could see from my face,
That I was fucking high,
And I don’t think that,
I’ll see her again,
But we shared a moment,
That will last till the end.”
“You’re beautiful,
You’re beautiful,
You’re beautiful,
It’s true.
I saw your face,
In a crowded place,
And I don’t know what to do,
‘Cause I’ll never be with you.”
Nate stopped singing now and I sung the last part alone.
“You’re beautiful,
You’re beautiful,
You’re beautiful,
It’s true.
There must be an Angel
With a smile on her face,
When she thought up that
I should be with you.
But it’s time to face the truth,
I will never be with you.”
I felt a pang at the word Angel but I ignored it.
“God your voice is so beautiful,” Nate sighed and I blushed when I noticed that the brothers heard that too. Nate heard my voice before but that was the first time Liam and Drew heard me sing like that.
I bit my lip and slowly looked in the rearview mirror. Liam and Drew were staring at me wide-eyed, their mouths hanging open. I groaned internally and shifted my gaze back to the street.
Silence filled the car and I cursed myself for singing like that in front of the brothers. But then again they were going to find out soon because I always bring my guitar with me to camp and we all sing together around the campfire at night. They will find out that I play the guitar too! I don’t tell people that I play. Only my closest friends know that I play and sing like that. Yet even my closest friends don’t know that I play the piano – no one does. The reason? It reminds me of my mom. She used to play all the time.
But the brothers are now considered three of my closest friends, right? So they should know that I play and sing.
The silence was suffocating me and Drew’s gaze was not helping either. My grip tightened on the steering wheel and I gritted my teeth. Luckily, we got to the forest in the next ten minutes. I parked my car next to the twins’ car and hastily jumped out. I took out my bag, the bag of food, and the guitar from the trunk of my car. I spun around and came face-to-face with Drew. I jumped and my guitar hit my leg making me wince slightly. I readjusted the strap on my shoulder and looked away from Drew’s intent stare.
Why does he do that? He always gives me that intent stare that makes me blush and look away. I angrily walked away, keeping my head down.
We walked to our campsite which was next to the lake. I put all my stuff on the ground, being careful not to break my guitar. The guys brought one of these small fridges to put the food in them but almost all our food didn’t need it.
“We’ll set up the tents first, then we’ll go get wood for the campfire, and then we can go for a swim,” Nate instructed and we all nodded.
We moved all our things to one side and started working on the tents.
“We only have four tents,” Nate said.
“And?”
“There should be three people in one of the tents.” He explained.
“Mia, Tia, and Angelina will use one tent,” Jack suggested “They can fit.”
I glanced at Lee and Mia. Their faces fell when they heard the idea. My gaze softened slightly.
“No. Angelina and I are always in the same tent,” Nate complained.
At the same time I said, “Can’t we find another solution?”
Jack raised an eyebrow at us.
“Mia and Lee are in one tent,” I started, narrowing my eyes at him. The couple smiled at me and I smiled back.
“Tia can fit with Jack and Greg,” I said.
“No way!” Tia exclaimed “They move a lot at night. I’ll probably end up not sleeping at all!”
Jack and Greg rolled their eyes at her.
“Liam and I will share a tent,” Tia said, giving Liam a flirtatious smile. He smirked at her and agreed. Another couple, I though. Tia and Liam… Hmm they are both extremely weird that it might work out perfectly.
Everyone started talking at the same time.
“Shut up!” I finally screamed and they all stopped talking.
I cleared my throat.
“I got this,” I told them “Lee and Mia in the blue tent. Liam and Tia in the yellow tent. Jack and Greg in the red tent. Nate, Drew, and I in the green tent. Good?”
“Okay,” they all chorused except for Drew who was silent, and Nate who frowned at me.
“Are you sure we’ll fit?” Nate asked.
“Yeah,” I replied “The tent is big enough and you and I don’t move a lot while sleeping.”
“Alright,” he agreed and I turned to Drew.
He seemed reluctant but I didn’t know why.
“Now that everything is set, let’s continue working on the tents,” Jack said and every two people started working on their tent.
Nate took our green tented and started working.
“Are you okay with the sleeping arrangements?” I asked Drew.
He looked down at me, his deep blue eyes making me squirm uncomfortably.
“Yes as long as you and Nate behave,” he said.
I furrowed my eyebrows in confusion. “What?”
He rolled his eyes at me as if I were the stupidest person on earth.
“I know you have feelings for him,” he said matter-of-factly.
A wry smile spread across my face. Only if he knew that I have feelings for him not Nate.
“In that case you have nothing to worry about,” I said.
“So you do have feelings for him,” he clarified, his blue eyes flashing.
I snorted. “Yeah sure.”
“Could you stop being sarcastic?” He asked.
“Nope, I think that is impossible,” I replied.
“Are you going to help me or what?” I heard Nate tell us.
“Coming,” I replied as I turned around.
I paused and turned my head to the side.
“You’ve got it all wrong Drew,” I told him “I don’t have feelings for him. He’s my best friend.”
I didn’t give him time to reply. I just faced forward again and walked to where Nate was struggling with our green tent.
A few minutes later, Drew followed me and the three of us worked silently on our tent. We were the first ones to finish because we were three and Nate was an expert at this.
“We’re gonna go start gathering wood,” Nate stated “When you guys finish setting your tents follow us.”
“I hate gathering wood,” I whined as we started walking in the vast forest. “I want to go for a swim.”
“You always complain, Shorty.” Nate rolled his eyes at me.
“I’m not short anymore! Stop calling me that!” I huffed, angrily.
Ever since we were in sixth grade, Nate has been calling me Shorty because he was happy to be taller than me. He was a short kid but not anymore. He is almost the same height as Drew.
“You’re still short compared to me,” He pointed out “And I’ve been calling you that for years. I will not stop so just give it up.”
I sighed. “Whatever, Nathan.”
He narrowed his eyes at me. “Don’t call me that.”
“I can call you whatever I want.”
“Don’t make me tickle you now,” Nate threatened and my eyes widened.
“You wouldn’t!” I said, trying to sound confident. I knew that he would, though. He knows that I’m the most ticklish person in the world!
“I would,” He said threateningly as he moved his face closer to mine, giving me an evil look.
“Enough flirting. I’m gonna throw up!” Drew said and my eyes widened as a blush claimed my cheeks. Nate on the other hand found it amusing. His eyes shined with amusement as he looked at Drew and then back at me.
“Jealous?” Nate said, smirking at him and wrapping an arm around my shoulder.
Drew clenched his jaw and glared at us.
“No.” He said angrily.
“That’s very convincing,” Nate snorted.
“Stop it Nate,” I ordered him and shrugged his arm off my shoulder.
Drew clenched his fists and took a menacing step towards Nate.
“Drew,” I said warningly.
The boys didn’t listen to me. They kept on staring at each other. It was just like the staring competition earlier.
“What the hell is up with you two?” I screamed as I shoved both boys away from each other.
Their gazes snapped to me as I glared at them.
“You better get along and stop fighting,” I said and crossed my arms over my chest.
They both snorted and then continued to glare at each other.
I sighed.
This is going to be a long day.
