Chapter 11

Chapter 11

Angelina's Point of View:

As soon as I woke up the next morning, the events came rushing back and I felt the pain all over again. I sighed. I barely slept but I didn’t get out of my bed. Sleep is the best cure in that condition but I can’t stay in bed all day. It’s already 11:00a.m.

But then again, it’s my house and my summer so I can stay in bed all day. I can do whatever I want. And honestly I don’t feel like going out of bed.

But if I didn’t, the brothers would notice that something is wrong. They will know something is up and they are smart enough to figure it out.

How did this happen? I asked myself as I went out of bed and walked the short distance to my toilet. Why do I like him? Sure he’s hot and all but from the moment I saw him, I knew he was a player.

He’s a bit different from any other player, I noticed. But that doesn’t make him any better. He’s just a player with a mysterious story.

Why didn’t I like another brother? Why him? Why not Lee? Why not Liam? All those questions gave me a headache in the morning and I decided to just put them all aside for later and see how the day turns out.

What’s the worst that could happen? That was the question I always repeat to myself when I’m in a situation like this or when I want to take a risk.

Besides, I have always been the different girl. I always make fun of the girls who cry over a boy. I have never been heartbroken before. I have always been the optimistic one that’ll probably never experience heartbreak.

But here I am, crying because a guy doesn’t like me back. It’s not even love! I only like him and it hurt that much. I feel like such a hypocrite right now.

I should’ve been doing like every normal girl would do in that case. I should spend a day in bed while eating ice-cream and watching sad movies or chick flicks.

That’s what I should be doing. But what I am doing now is going down the stairs reluctantly, not wanting the face one particular brother.

It reminded me of a girl I used to be friends with when I was a kid since she was my neighbor. Her name was Maya and she used to say: ‘one step forward and ten backwards’. It was a saying she used to describe situations like this where a person is reluctant to go forward.

I stopped in the middle of the staircase and frowned at my thoughts. I haven’t thought about Maya since forever and it was an irrelevant topic. What the hell is wrong with my brain? Why am I thinking about her now? Am I that desperate to get my mind off him?

I shook my head to clear all these disturbing thoughts and then I took a deep breath and walked into the kitchen where I could hear the brothers’ voices.

“Good morning,” I gave myself an internal high five when my voice came out cheerful and happy just like it always is.

“Hey,” Liam grinned.

“Good morning,” Lee answered, smiling slightly.

Drew didn’t reply, I noticed but I acted as if I didn’t.

“Last night was fun,” Liam brought up the topic I was dreading the most. I felt my eyes go wide slightly but I quickly changed my reaction to a normal blank one. I hope no one noticed though.

“Yeah,” I nodded trying to shift the subject slightly so that it doesn’t come to that kiss “And that reminds me, Lee why didn’t you answer the first question?”

I really wanted to know why he didn’t say that he was in love with Mia so it wasn’t completely an excuse to shift the subject.

Lee’s cheeks turned pink and he looked away from me.

“Aww, you’re so adorable,” I cooed and pinched his pink cheeks.

“Shut up,” he grumbled, still looking away from me.

I chuckled slightly before turning serious again. “But I noticed that Mia was disappointed when you didn’t say anything.”

His head immediately snapped up and he looked at me, his eyes getting filled with hope, “She was?”

“Yep,” I nodded my head “That’s why you should tell her soon.”

He dropped his gaze and mumbled, “I’m too nervous.”

“Nervous? Nonsense!” I exclaimed “She is obviously in love with you too.”

“What if she’s not?” His eyes filled with pain and horror.

“Listen to me Lee,” I sat on the chair next to him and forced him to look at me so that he could see the sincerity in my eyes.

My voice softened when I saw his hurt eyes, “I have been her best friend for years and she never had a boyfriend because she said that they all lack good traits. These traits are all the traits that you have. She wants a gentleman, a guy who is loyal and honest; a guy who is not afraid to tell her that he is in love with her.”

“You have all these traits, Lee,” I was happy when I saw the determination and confidence in his eyes. He needs to know all this and he has to tell Mia the truth.

“Plus your good looks are a bonus,” I winked at him and he laughed.

“Thanks, Lina. I’m really glad you told me all this.”

“So you’ll tell her?” I asked, beaming at him.

“Yes,” he said confidently “I will tell her.”

I grinned widely. Their love is so simple and so beautiful. They are the perfect couple. This topic was able to take my mind off things for a bit but as soon as I was done talking to Lee, I turned around and saw Drew staring at me. There was something in his eyes but I didn’t recognize that emotion. Was it admiration? Was it awe? Or was it my imagination?

I decided it was my imagination because it didn’t last long and that emotion was alien to me. When I noticed that I was also staring at him, I quickly turned around and tried to stop the blush. It was no use. I was blushing.

I cleared my throat awkwardly. “So what do you guys want to do today?”

They shrugged without giving me any answer. I raked my brain for some kind of idea. What to do, what to do?

I jumped slightly when my phone rang.

“Ooh I want to dance to this song,” Liam exclaimed when he heard ‘Moves like Jagger’, my ringtone. I chuckled as I remembered the last time he danced when my phone rang.

Liam jumped from his seat but his left leg got stuck between the foot of the chair and the foot of the table and he ended up falling face first onto the ground.

I gasped and ran over to where he was groaning in pain. Déjà vu, I thought as I made sure if he was okay.

“I’m fine,” he reassured me and I let out a sigh of relief.

“Be careful!” I scolded him.

My phone was still ringing so I pressed the green button to answer.

“Hello”

“Hey Angelina,” Mia said from the other end and I smiled. We were just talking about her.

“Hey Mia,” I shot Lee a look when I said her name and he blushed.

“So we were talking about our annual camp by the lake and we decided to go next Friday till Sunday.” She said and I thought about it for a bit. I had no plans for next weekend so the date was good.

“Sounds good,” I told her.

“And um are the um b-brother coming?” She stammered slightly.

I wanted to laugh at her but I refrained myself, “Sure, I’m not going to leave them here alone.”

I noticed the brothers looking at me curiously as I talked to Mia.

“That’s great!” She chirped. She clearly wanted Lee to come “I’ll see you soon.”

“See ya,” I said and then I hung up.

“What was that about?” Drew talked for the first time today and I took a while to be able to answer because I was so lost in his blue eyes.

When I snapped out of it, I was able to explain to the brothers about our annual camp by the lake.

“It’s about our annual camp by the lake,” I started “Every year, we all go to this place by the lake in a small forest for a few days. It’s only an hour drive from here. We sleep in tents and we make a fire and all that. It’s really fun and this year you guys are coming with us. It will be next week from Friday till Sunday.”

“That sounds so cool,” Lee said. The excitement was clear in his eyes.

“Yeah, especially since you and Mia get to share a tent,” I joked and shot him a wink.

He blushed. “W-we do?” he stuttered just like Mia did on the phone earlier.

“Yep, I can make it work,” I smirked at him and he grinned widely.

“And with whom do I get to share a tent?” Drew waggled his eyebrows suggestively.

With me, I thought but of course I didn’t voice it out. I rolled my eyes at him.

“Usually, Tia and Mia sleep in their tent, Jack and Greg in another, and me and Nate. But this year it will have to change a bit since Lee and Mia will be sharing a tent,” I explained.

Drew’s eyes darkened and his eyebrows formed a frown.

“Why do you share a tent with Nate?” he asked. There was something in his eyes I couldn’t catch but I ignored it.

I shrugged. “We have been camping there ever since we were eight years old. But when we were younger, one of our parents would stay with us. I have known Nate ever since we were in diapers and my parents know his parents. So when we were eight, the twins’ mom came with us on our first camp and my parents told Nate and I to sleep in the same tent so that he can take care of me. We have been sharing a tent every summer ever since that year.”

“So you two are really close,” Drew said.

I nodded and a smile formed on my lips. “Yeah, we are.”

Even though he never brought it up, I know that he knows everything about my parents and the split up. If I ever need someone to talk to, he is the one. Images from the past flashed through my mind and I smiled. Nate and I really had some good times together.

“Can we watch a movie?” Liam asked.

“Sure, what do you want to watch?”

“Alvin and the Chipmunks 3,” He exclaimed.

I laughed at his excitement and went up to my room to get the DVD.

When I came back downstairs, the brothers were already seated in the T.V room. When the movie started, I went to the kitchen and prepared a bowl of popcorn.

The only empty seat left was the one next to Drew. I acted indifferently as I plopped on the couch beside him.

In the middle of the movie I was starting to get sleepy. I slept late last night and woke up early so I was tired. My eyes started to droop and I soon found myself falling asleep.

I heard muffled voices around me. I failed when I tried to open my eyes at first. But then with more determination, I forced them to open.

I found myself in the T.V room where I fell asleep a while ago. I rubbed my tired eyes and turned to my other side. I suddenly stopped noticing that I was lying down. I fell asleep while sitting so why am I now sleeping on someone’s lap?

My eyes widened and I turned around quickly and saw Drew looking down at me. Why am I sleeping on his lap?

I quickly sat up. That was a bad decision because I felt my head spin at the sudden movement.

“Ouch.” I muttered as I held my head in my hands and closed my eyes for a bit.

“Are you alright?” Drew’s voice asked from behind me.

“Yep,” I answered as the throbbing stopped “I just moved too fast.”

I looked around but the other two brothers weren’t there anymore.

As if reading my thoughts, Drew said, “They are in the kitchen.”

“Oh.” I answered and before the awkward silence could settle on us I spoke again. “I remember falling asleep in a sitting position…”

I glanced at him and he shot me a smirk. I braced myself for his sarcastic comment.

“Even in your sleep you can’t resist me.”

I rolled my eyes at him as we went to the kitchen to join the other two brothers. He didn’t answer my question but I didn’t pay attention to that part. What caught my attention was my heart rate that sped up at his comment and the tone he used. I felt that it was different from the other times he said some mocking comment. It was better like that.
