Chapter 78: "Persuade"
Funtime Freddy's P.O.V
I quickly realized the empty void of nothing around me, all before Duality's holographic body appeared next to me. We were apart of Scott's program now, just as he wanted for us. I quickly turned to the sight of Scott Cawthon appearing right behind us now in his cube like glowing blue body, waiting for us. "I do hope the scenery isn't a problem. Having a more sophisticated one would only be distracting, especially with the topic at hand. At least for the moment," said Scott Cawthon. "What do you mean by that?" I asked. "You will understand in time. Now, I suggest we get started on your statement involving why I shouldn't go through with my plans. Your friends won't be able to hold off the enemy for long," said Scott. "Very well," I said in agreement. "What you plan to do. I understand the intent, the purpose of preserving the human race and technology. The problem lies with deciding for the human race, especially since you aren't a human yourself. Only a piece of technology created from mankind." "Your reasoning is flawed. I may be a program created by a human, however I still have the right to wish to change the world. You believe machines like A.I and robots should be treated fairly?" responded Scott. "To an extent, yes. Talking and more advanced robots should be treated with respect, at least that's how I feel. Yet you also have the right to speak with others, people like the leaders of the U.S, the president, anyone with higher power that is able to discuss your vision," I said. "Certainly, however it also isn't a guarantee. How long will it take to communicate with the right people, or will they see my plan as a speck and less important to the many jobs and problems they are focused on at the moment? Time is not limitless and each day our society advances slightly, including technology. And as the days pass the discussion of humanity and technology coexisting together is ignored; neglected until the day we arrive where one or the other will eliminate itself from our world," explained Scott. "If I have the right to change the world, even without the consent of the people, then the same would apply to you. Rather than contact the authorities, the FBI, the army, anyone that is more capable of dealing with William Afton and his army you've decided to take matters into your own hands." "It's because only we are capable of stopping William and his army," I responded. "How then? Why are you and your friends capable of stopping William Afton?" persisted Scott. "You know the reasons, as well as the data that can be calculated. Even if the U.S army was sent to destroy William and his army they would face considerable causalities or wouldn't succeed. William's ingenuity and inventions could rival even what the U.S could throw at William, not to mention with starting a conflict here in Utah. There's also the Resurrection Power, which could be used to kill thousands, if not millions. Of course Freddy and everyone also possess the Resurrection Power, which you helped create, correct?" explained Duality. "Indeed," responded Scott. "Then you know it would only be logical that fighting fire with fire would be best if everyone learned the power to take on William's army and himself, as well as having a fighting chance," continued Duality. "Besides, sacrificing our lives, robotic lives that people may see as just that, over a thousand or more human ones is a better trade. William has already taken so many lives and if we can prevent him from taking anymore, then me and my family will give our lives to this planet and its people to ensure they're safe," I added in as well. "Your reasoning is logical. Though I must empathize once again that what I am doing is no different than your goals," responded Scott. "Are they really? Merging technology and humanity into one? Especially like what happened with those souls trapped in the animatronics that Charlie saved? Think about it, they could never eat or drink, live in a society in the state they were in, and could only be at peace if their animatronic bodies were destroyed. Do you believe society will be able to adapt to such changes if you give them bodies they had no choice over? How do you think children will react to such a thing, or anyone for that matter? They may not even be thankful or glad for what you did, even if what you did was with good intent. Then what? You fucked over the human race that wasn't ready to adapt to such a chance and could do more damage than expected. Would it have been worth it?" I asked. "Such an outcome is possible, however I feel it is the best solution to a problem that may not be resolved," responded Duality. "Then let humanity decide their future for themselves, not technology. I had to get Henry to understand that," I said. "Let me remind you Scott it was you that had us reconsider hiding the truth from the world," said Duality. "Yeah. We can't be the one to decides what is best for humanity, that's them tp decide what path they end up on and where it leads to. That's not to say we can't be there to guide them, offer them advice to have them understand the problem at hand. The future for humanity and technology is something we may not live to see. All I want for humanity to see is neither the good or bad of technology, but to acknowledge both sides, to see in-between the lines and the grey. Scott, all you would do is give humanity is reason to hate technology, maybe even reject it," I said. "I... I have not considered that possibility," responded Scott, seeming speechless now. "Look Scott. It's clear you care about ensuring humanity and technology survive, we share the same goal. I want you to help us in defeating William and his forces, for him to answer for all he's done. After that you're free to do whatever and help humanity in any shape or form, besides your original plan of course," I said. "He's right, Scott. If you want to help humanity you can do by ensuring William is defeated and along with his forces, as well as explaining what he really intends to do with Resurrection Day," said Duality. Scott Cawthon stared at us for a moment, almost like he was thinking to himself though it was hard to tell if he really was doing so.
"You're argument and defense is... logical. And compelling I must add. You have convinced me." I let out a small sigh of relief and turned to Duality to give a smile, as he did the same back before we turned back to Scott. "Both of you have persuaded me, and as such I will follow up on my promise on explaining William Afton's plan and reasoning for everything," continued Scott. Suddenly the scenery changed to an apartment now, though one I did not recognize. "Who's apartment is this?" I asked looking around. "William Afton's. A long time ago," answered Scott. "William Afton was born on November 11th, 1938, with his parents being Jack Afton and Trisha Afton. From an early age it was obvious from his grades and ability of learning that he was gifted a child, though the same could not be said for his parents. Both were alcoholics, always draining their days away with a income that could barely keep them from keeping up with their rent. Both of his parents also had a strong addiction to cocaine, which they spent most of their money on besides alcohol, which they only earned by selling cocaine they bought. Needless to say, William Afton did not have an ideal childhood growing up." Me and Duality turned to the sight of a child opening the front door to the apartment, which I could tell was a young William who appeared to be around nine or ten years old. His clothes looked worn, like they had been used for a couple years now with some holes, his pants ripped, shoes that looked ragged, and his shirt and pants looked too small for him. He took off his shoes by the door as he walked on over past the kitchen and into the living room, as I noticed his dad drinking a bottle of beer while watching TV. His dad looked drunk out of his mind, his clothes also ragged and dirty, as he noticed William walk past to the living room to where his room was. "Hey," said his dad as William walked past him. "I said hey, William!" he exclaimed raising his voice now. William finally stopped in the center of the room, not turning around to face his father as he got up from the couch and shifted over to William. "You're gonna fucking ignore me? Just like you've done to me and mom every time you come home from school? Huh?" he asked getting up in his face as he held the bottle of beer still. William still did not bother to stare at his father or even responded, which seem to agitate his father even more. "HUH?! ARE YOU GOING TO FUCKING KEEP QUIET YOU LITTLE SHIT!?" his father screamed as he slammed the bottle of beer on the table, scattering all over the table and floor with the beer as well. "I'm sorry," mumbled William. "What's that?! Speak up boy!" his father exclaimed at once. "I'm sorry," William responded clearly. "Look me in the eye and say that boy," his father said. William turned to look at his father, as he seemed to almost be afraid to do so. "I'm sorry," said William. "Sorry for what? For not saying hello?" asked his father. "OR FOR FUCKING HAVING ME BREAK MY GLASS OF BEER?!" He slapped William on the face as hard as he could, which caused him to stumbled back. His father then started to take off his belt completely out of his pants before he wrapped it up and smacked at William before grabbing him to hold him in place and hit him even more. "SORRY ISN'T GOOD ENOUGH YOU FUCKING BRAT!" his father screamed at him continuing to hit him with his belt. I was sick to my robotic stomach to witness such abuse. I knew people in this world were cruel and evil, it was just a common fact. Though to witness and see something like this in front of you, you just can't help but feel the pain William was going through at that moment by being hit by his dad. The face William had and the tears that were streaming down his face, it wasn't one of sadness, but of hate and resentment for the cruelty he was facing. "Scott, I believe we have seen enough," stated Duality. "Very well," responded Scott as the scenery disappeared now. "However now you understand the childhood William had. He hated his parents and the life he was given, so much he would do anything to rid of them. So William went to drastic measures to ensure his parents would pay for everything they had done to him." "The scenery changed to the apartment once again, though it was night as I turned to the sight of William in the kitchen and staring at the stove that was on. Suddenly a fire started on the stove as William looked towards it, not doing anything about it. The fire alarm blared through the apartment as he stared up at where the sound was, almost enjoying the sound that was like music to his ears. He walked on past the kitchen and over to where his bedroom was, as me, Duality, and Scott followed him through the living room. As we followed him through the living room and to the hallway where his bedroom was I noticed the grandfather clock that was blocking a room, as I immediately realized what was going on. William went inside to his room as I noticed he had no bedsheets. I turned behind me to see the fire illuminating out his room and smoke starting to fill the apartment, as I noticed William had made a rope by tying his bedsheets and clothes together so he could escape. He took the end of his makeshift rope and tied it around his bed. He stopped to grab the rest of his rope and threw it out the window as he got ready to drop outside. All of a sudden banging could be heard from his parents room next to him, as clearly they had no way of getting out the door. "William?! William! What the fuck is going on?! Open the door!" exclaimed the sound of his mother from his parents bedroom. "William! What the fuck did you do?! I'm going to kill you, you hear me?!" exclaimed his father's voice. William got on the makeshift rope and climbed his way down to the bottom of the lawn and where the other apartments were. As soon as he got to the bottom he took something out of his pocket, which I realized was a matchstick as he threw it on the ground on the lawn before running away as the lawn ignited with flames. "WILLIAM! YOU SON OF A BITCH! YOU'LL BURN IN HELL FOR THIS! YOUR HEAR ME?! WILLIAM!" screamed his father's voice from the room at the window. "He... He killed his own parents?" I asked perplexed at what I had just witnessed. "His childhood was nothing but abuse and trauma, in retaliation and revenge for what had been done to him he resorted to burning down his apartment and trapping his parents so they could not escape," responded Scott. "Yes, from my data authorities and the fire department came to the apartment as fast they could, but could not save William's parents that had perished in the fire. It was deduced the stove had been left on and when questioned what happened William afton explained his parents must've forgotten because they were drunk, which was a reasonable explanation for the authorities for what happened. They never had any evidence or reason to believe he was responsible for the fire and death of his parents. William at his age was smart enough to trap his parents door so they couldn't escape and start a fire on the lawn so they also couldn't use the window as an option. To think he would be hiding his past, especially something like this," said Duality. "Yes. Though it is understandable for the reason he did for ending his parents life, it is not justifiable or right in any way. For a mere ten year old to commit such an atrocity, I must say was enough to shock me to the core. For humanity to be such devils, a reincarnation for evil, it truly shows the worst of humanity," responded Scott. "With his parents gone William Afton was sent to live with his grandparents, though shortly they would pass away by the time he was ending high school. It was around the time he was in college he would meet his wife, Margaret Pincher. For the first and only time in his life he had met someone he had cared about, someone who gave him feelings nobody else could give him. Suddenly the scenery changed to a downtown city, which appeared to be in the evening, as we were outside of a RadioShack. The door opened as William walked outside of the place while looking at some of the electronics he had in his bag, as he suddenly bumped into a women. He dropped electronics and his bag fell onto ground, as the person he bumped into appeared to be Margaret. "Oh I'm so sorry!" said Margaret at once. "No, no! I'm sorry! I should've been the one paying attention to where I was going," said William as he got down on his knees as he picked up his bag and electronics on the ground. "Say? You look familiar? Ah, that's right! We're in math and world history at university!" said Margaret as she got up from the ground as well. "Oh! Yeah! We do. My name's William," he said. "I'm Margaret. Again, sorry for bumping into you," she said. "No worries," he responded. "What you go here?" asked Margaret noticing the electronics in his bag. "Oh! Just seeing if I can modify or change some things I bought. Really into electronics you see. Gonna see if I can change some components on my IBM," responded William. "You have a IBM? I've really wanted to try one out, but I don't have enough to buy one. I'm surprised you had enough money to buy one yourself," said Margaret seemingly excited now. "Well, I saved a lot of money when I worked multiple jobs during high school. You interested in electronics?" asked William. "I am. My father got me into electronics when I was young, so I've been fascinated by them ever since," responded Margaret. "So am I. I got into electronics and technology when I was high school and took a couple coding classes. I even hear new machines called robots are being made, which I hope to get into. If you want I could show you some of my electronics and inventions some time, if you like," responded William. "Sure, I would love to," responded Margaret. "Hold up! Let's go inside and ask for a paper and pen so we can exchange numbers," said William as they both made their way inside the RadioShack. "William really did love her, or at least he did," I said as the scenery changed now. "Actually, you are incorrect. William Afton has always loved her, even up and past her demise. It was his one and only mistake that lead to her demise," said Scott. "You mean it wasn't intentional?" I asked. "Correct. William Afton had Fredbear tampered with in order to kill employees, however his wife visited the pizzeria looking for him. Of course, you know what happened," responded Scott. Suddenly the scenery changed once again to a new location, which was a pizzeria this time. It took me a moment to realize this was Fredbear's Family Diner as I noticed we were looking at the maintenance room, as well as Fredbear in the room as well. Suddenly the door opened as we could see Margaret walking inside now, as she looked around. "William? You here?" she called out approaching Fredbear while she continued to look around. She finally stopped in front of him staring at him for a moment, until I noticed how his eyes activated instantly. In a second Fredbear's mouth was biting down on Margaret's head as I could see the blood streaming down her head. Her screams she let out as Fredbear did not dare let go of her head; to think something would be worse than the previous disturbing sight of child abuse. As the screams went on for longer the more I felt a feeling I couldn't even explain or put into words. Fear? Horror? Not even those words were enough to describe the sight in front of me. Finally the screams were no more, and not a sound could be heard from Margaret. Fredbear opened his mouth as Margaret's body feel onto the floor, as I was met with her face covered in blood and part of her head dug in. I could even see bits of her brain. I had to turn away finally as the sight was too much for me at this point. It was one thing to see a destroyed and dismantled animatronic or robot, as it wasn't brutal depending on how they had died. Seeing a dead human, however. The way Margaret had perished. That was something else entirely. "Scott, that's enough. Freddy, your systems have spiked dramatically. If you need a moment-" tried to say Duality. "I'm fine, I'm fine. Just... wasn't ready for that... " I said breathing heavily as the scenery disappeared back to a black. "I felt it was best to display events properly to understand the feelings derived from it. Also, to show what you must be willing to do when you end William Afton's life," said Scott. "Let me guess... You don't think I'm capable of killing him? Michael is the one who is tasked with that," I responded getting control of my breathing and calming down now. "If nothing goes wrong, that is. You are the next option tasked with the job if he fails or is killed. You are capable, but not willing to kill a man. Even if it is for the better for this world." "We'll deal with that if the time comes," said Duality. "When it will happen. We both know from our calculations and results of what outcome will occur," responded Scott. "What I know is that our perception of the outcome differ in a variety of possibilities and events. You'll learn that soon enough," responded back Duality. Suddenly the scenery changed back to the same location with Margaret's body on the floor, along with Fredbear in the room inactive with blood dropping from his mouth. Suddenly the door to the maintenance room opened as William walked inside, immediately noticing what had happened to his wife. "Margaret? No. No, no, no!" he said at once before running over towards her body. "Margaret no! Please! Why you! Why! I made a mistake! I'm sorry! " he exclaimed getting on the ground and holding her body with tears streaming down his face now. "Why! Margaret! Why!" To hear William in pain over the loss of his wire, it was something else entirely. There was humanity emanating from him for once, not fabricated or an act. The tears we made, they were real. Perhaps under all that skin, blood, and evil, a human was there. "So... William made a mistake by having Fredbear kill his wife and as a result brought her back to life," I said changing the conversation as the area changed back to darkness again. "Attempted to, that is. William Afton took what was left of her soul and worked with so many years to have her compatible with a new body to be reborn, so that they may reunite again. Obviously she took the form of Ballora, not to mention this isn't the old Margaret Afton that William Afton once knew. All that controls her body is but a fragment of Margaret Afton, memories William Afton had to imprint digitally to make her think she still is the old Margaret Afton and is living. He believes he's brought her back for good, hoping to have her at his side for his grand plans," explained Scott. "Then tell us. What are his grand plans? What is he to gain from all of this?" I asked. "What I showed of William's past are the key and road that has lead him to where he stands now. You see William's perception of the world and who deserves to live was changed by his parents, who realized how evil humans could really be. He felt it was necessary to decide who gets to live in this world and who doesn't. Any crime, felony, mistake even. Whatever is considered evil or something that has caused harm or hurt others, whether that be physically, mentally, or emotionally, if any one possesses or has committed in their life at any age or point they don't deserve to live in this world by William's standards," explained Scott. "That... That... defies all logic... " said Duality surprised. That was the first time I had heard him surprised, which meant something from what we had just heard. "He's right. That's hypocritical considering everything William has done to so many people," I said surprised as well. "Indeed. And he has realized that as well. Which is why he wants Margaret to control a new world that has no harm, no crime, to hate or rage. A world only filled with people that are happy, in peace, and seek no harm. He is even willing to except judgement from his wife to decide his fate. His wife is the one and only person he has ever cared for, as to him she is the ideal perfect being so he feels it is best for her to rule this new perfect world he has imagined for years now. A happy world. And to ensure those people are secured for a new future those he deem worthy of keeping alive will have their souls transferred to endo-skeleton and animatronics so they may never die or wither away," continued Scott. "And he intends to kill everyone off that doesn't fit that criteria with his army? By storming the whole world and act as their judge? To decide whether they're guilty or innocent?" I asked. "Not guilty or innocent. To decide if they are a good or bad human beings that deserve to preserve the future of this world. A resurrection of the world if you would like to call it. The entire purpose of Resurrection Day that has been planned out for so many years now. William will activate his army to spread throughout Utah, then the rest of the world. As to how I am ensure, I never did learn those details. Though I would assume his army would be able to storm every state, country, even the sea since he ensured the pressure of the ocean would not be a problem for his army. And by my calculations over 80% of humanity will be killed due to not being the ideal human being," answered Scott. "Can we shut down the entire army?" I asked. "Yes. I was given partial control over the army, though I'm sure William has a way to ensure I don't gain control over the army. There's a way that leads to William Afton and where the army is that I can direct you towards," responded Scott. "Then how do we shut off the army?" I asked. "Freddy. I... " said Duality at once, almost like something was wrong. "What is it?" I asked. "Freddy. It's... Bonnie... he's... "I detect a program that is engaging with my own of unknown origin. Our time is up. William see's me as a loose end now," warned Scott. Suddenly the scenery started to glitch out before the darkness slowly disappeared, now replaced with a glitch as it continued to spread across. "The both of you will need to eject and return to your friends. They'll need you," said Scott. "What about you?" I asked. "I'm afraid there is nothing more I can do. My systems are compromised and aren't able to fight against the virus," responded Scott. "What if you upload part of your systems with me? Essentially preserving a part of you for good so that you may survive," suggested Duality. "Join me and Duality and we can stop William for good. All of us. For a better tomorrow," I said to him. Scott looked away towards the area now replaced in glitches, almost saying goodbye to himself in a way. It wasn't like he had much of a choice to choose between from. "Very well. Uploading secondary and lower functions," responded Scott. "Alright. Disconnecting... now!" stated Duality before the world in front of us disappeared. So much was on my mind now, mainly about William and his plans. So much to process and think about, all of it on repeat as I didn't know how to digest it all. It made me view William differently then before, and maybe Michael and the rest of us would feel the same way. Whatever the case we had finally found our answers and now was the time to respond to them. I only hoped the others were faring better, especially Bonnie. If something had happened to him... Well... Perhaps its best to not jump to conclusions. Finally, we have a goal we understand. Stopping William and his army from wiping out those who aren't perfect beings, and saving this world. The goal is the same as well as the stakes, the only thing that has changed is our perspective of William. Once he was a human, and now he's monster. It's time for the judge to face his own verdict of whether he should live to redeem himself, or die never to be human again.
