Chapter 92- Have Mercy

"Oh...my....God."

That is Kim SeokJin. Currently, his mouth is hanging open forming a small 'o', that in a weird but satisfying way matches his face. And of course, this facial expression matches all the five boys' that are witnessing the sight that's taking place in front of them. Only Hoseok and Jimin don't seem too surprised with it. Well, Jimin because he's already grown immune to it.

Hoseok?

He's simply lost hope.

"We need EunBi back," Jungkook whispers over SeokJin's shoulder and the elder slowly nods his head in agreement.

"Let's not be that pessimistic. She could improve," NamJoon, who is equally stunned by the sight of you dancing, mutters to the two, "I mean if I can look half-decent while dancing. She definitely can get there."

"Are you sure about that, NamJoon?" Yoongi deadpans and NamJoon remains silent too busy gulping his saliva down to reply.

"Hoseok's looking pale," Jungkook whispers to Taehyung and nods his head towards the dance teacher. The heads turn and they all take in his sight. Indeed the sight is not good. His lips are in a thin line, eyes fierce-looking -but holding a lot of fear in them as well. His arms are folded over his chest and...clearly, he does not look happy. The authoritative aura that can make even the most confident of people feel frightened is surrounding him. It almost makes the boys feel bad for you.

The music stops. You turn around. Sweaty and with a flushed face. You're heaving and truth be told you feel tired. Jimin may have made the whole experience feel light and more fun than strict dance lessons, but he still gave no breaks. Trapping you into doing the same routine over and over with that bright smile and supportive and warm tone in his voice. You just couldn't bring yourself to stop and in any way disappoint him. You look at their faces to get the first taste of their impression and well- it's exactly what you expected.

"I'm that bad, aren't I?"

"What? No! No!" they all immediately start denying. First of them being Jimin who walked to your side as soon as he saw the disappointment in your eyes. But all of it got muffled out the second you made the connection. The truth is you weren't really expecting to do well on the first day. You are aware that dance is just not included in your talent skills, so it would need a lot more work for you to reach a certain level rather than someone else who's more inclined to it. But then again, turning around and seeing their faces? That hit differently. Because you realized that this team depends on you and they can't afford mistakes in order to win first place. A place they've proven they desperately want. This isn't a silly game. All their hard word can end up going down the drain. And that will be on you if that happens.

Suddenly, it feels a little bit harder to breathe. Your vision gets a tad bit blurry and Jimin swears he saw your eyes get glossy before you turned around telling them you'll be going to the bathroom for 'lady business'.

"We- we didn't even say anything," NamJoon stammers confused with your reaction.

"She didn't need much with the faces we were pulling back there," Yoongi points out and NamJoon's shoulders slump.

"Do you think we hurt her feelings?" Jungkook asks looking from NamJoon to Seokjin with wide eyes that do look regretful for what happened.

"I- I don't think she'd be offended and storm off like that," Hoseok mutters sheepishly shoving his hands in his pockets.

"Yeah," Yoongi agrees, "Maybe she's just worried she's not good enough to take EunBi's place and she knows that this will have an effect on the team so..."

Yoongi trails off as he notices Taehyung lowering his head and looking at the ground shamefully,

"You okay, Taehyung?" SeokJin asks placing his hand on Taehyung's shoulder.

"This is my fault," he sniffs, "If I hadn't messed things up with EunBi this wouldn't be happening right now."

"Fights are never only one party's fault," Yoongi replies with a strict voice, hoping to get through to Taehyung, "In that sense if EunBi had stayed to talk about things instead of running away, again we wouldn't be having an issue and your relationship would be back."

Taehyung sighs slumping his shoulders further.

"Yeah, well EunBi ditched on us and I'm not mad at her because she probably had her reasons to do so. I'm sure she wouldn't break a commitment to such an important thing if it wasn't serious. It may be beyond just her relationship with Tae. But what matters right now is that Y/N is willing to help us and she's putting the effort and time so the least we can do is help her as much as we can," SeokJin states.

"He's right. She's not doing this for herself but us," Jimin adds, feeling sorrowful.

"Hoseok, go easy on her okay?" Jungkook requests looking at the elder with what is known to be 'puppy eyes'.

"I can't tell her she's good if that's a lie," Hoseok defends himself and the members give him an angered poker face, "Okay, okay, I get what you mean," he shrugs them off after he notices Jimin's expression which appears to be much harder than the others', "I won't be harsh."

Silence falls between them for a few moments and then Hoseok speaks, "Shouldn't someone go talk to her? I'm sure she didn't go to the bathroom for lady business," he mocked your tone and used air-quotes with his fingers.

"Since Jimin's been with her all day I guess he should be the one to...," Yoongi suggests with a voice that thins out as he goes on.

"Are we sure that's a good idea?" NamJoon enquires remembering that the two don't have a good history of communicating with one another.

"We've put that behind us, Hyung. We're in a better place now," Jimin clarifies and gives NamJoon a small and toothless smile. In return, NamJoon nods his head in understanding, he's a tad bit glad that the two of you are doing better.

"Okay...I'll uh, I'll go," Jimin stammers awkwardly looking around at the floor, "You guys start warming up. I'll be back soon with her, okay?"

"Yeah, yeah, go," Hoseok dismisses him and he motions for the other's to start taking the unnecessary clothing garments off and start running in laps around the studio.

Jimin turns around and after grabbing your bottle of water he exits the room and comes looking for you. Much to his surprise, it doesn't take him very long to find you. You're only a few meters away crouching down and leaning on the hallway wall. His rushing footsteps slow down and for a moment he pauses to observe yous small figure that's squatting with your arms tight around your folded legs and your forehead resting against your knees. With quiet steps, he comes and sits down next to you. You don't notice him until he softly places his hand on your shoulder.

Your head spikes up to look at his direction and you furrow his eyebrows the second you notice it's him.

"I'm sorry, I just nee-" you try to explain but he shushes you and you go quiet.

"Talk to me about it," he urges you as he spreads his legs on the ground to be more comfortable.

"Talk about what? There's nothing wrong," You chuckle as you open the bottle and take a sip to avoid looking at Jimin.

"Come on," Jimin leans his head to the side with a small smile on his lips, again you try to avoid his gaze, "We both know that dancing isn't really your specialty, I'm sure in your head you might consider it a weakness and even make jokes out of it. But we both know this competition isn't a joke to either of us so after putting all that hard work today the reaction of the guys mustn't have been easy to receive."

Jimin spoke with a soft voice and after each word that he said it the lump in your throat only grew and your view got more blurry, but it's not anything you can't control with a deep breath and a gulp of some water. Nonetheless, you can't deny that he read you like an open book and you weren't ready for that. So maybe, opening-up to him might not be such a bad idea. He looks like he's coming from a good place anyway.

"I'm not trying to be dramatic or think that I can't do this because it's too much for me. I know I can do it if I have enough time and will. If it was just me going for a dancing competition I wouldn't react that way. It's just that you guys depend on me for a good outcome and I'm fearing that no matter how much work I put into it the time I have won't be enough for the desired outcome...," you made a small pause, still avoiding to look at Jimin but rather you are focusing on the corner between the floor and the wall opposing you.

Nevertheless, Jimin doesn't tear away his attention from you and only lightly nods his head as you speak. After you sniff your nose once or twice he even gathers the courage to start caressing your hair for more comfort.

"And when I saw the look on their faces it felt like I'm taking you and your guys' work down the drain," you confess.

Jimin remains silent for a second, processing all the things you've told him, but without breaking the physical contact. His touch feels warm against you and despite the silence, you don't feel awkward or exposed, rather you feel comfortable and safe.

"Well, I'm not going to lie. This team depends on you just as much as it depends on everyone else. That's why it's a team. The lack of good performance of one member can reflect on the whole image of the group," he begins and his words don't seem to be very supportive at first, but it's not like he's lying. He's being realistic. You appreciate that.

"But, that doesn't mean that in the time we have you can't improve. And besides, winning this competition isn't a matter of life or death," Jimin chuckles making a mental note to remind himself of the same thing from time to time, "I mean, at first we decided to enter this competition just for the heck of it. Then we discovered how well we work together and it got more serious and plans were made for after it. But at the end of the line what matters is how we bonded with each other."

"You're not wrong," you whisper somehow finding his reasoning helpful.

"And besides, not all the members are good dancers. I mean...you should've NamJoon when we began," Jimin laughs and influences you to leave a chuckle out as well, "But he's improved a lot since then and so will you."

"I hope so," you mumble.

"I know if you had another choice you wouldn't be doing this, and we're really grateful for what you're doing for us. So, you're not going to go alone through this. We're going to help you help us," he finishes and for the first time, you turn around to look at him giving you a bright smile.

It almost makes you sentimental to how angelic he looks in front of you, right now.

"Wow," you whisper, observing his face and he doesn't move, "Thank you, Jimin. That helped a lot."

"I'm glad."

And so you turn your body just enough to give him a real tight hug. Jimin's eyes widen in shock and he doesn't react for a second. For some reason, he feels discomfort and awkwardness. Like, you shouldn't be initiating this. Despite everything though, he snaps out of it and wraps his arms around you before it becomes noticed that he's not reacting to you.
