Chapter 86- Hair
"Apparently Jimin dyed his hair blonde...," you trail off while your eyes are glued on the screen of your phone.
"So it was him!" EunBi cheers, happy to be proved correct.
"Not the point!" You exclaim, "He's blonde!!"
"Let me see!!" EunBi makes tiny and fast claps with her hands before you open one of the images Jimin sent and show her your screen.
"Oooh...," she sighs in approval, "he looks good! You better start dating him for real before other girls circle him and take your place,"
"EunBi!!!" You speak this time a little louder and slap your hand on your thigh with force to express annoyance, "I'm not going to date him! We don't like each other end of story!"
Eunbi remains quiet for a moment as she stares at you with a raised eyebrow, "He totally likes you."
"What do you base this opinion on?" you cross your arms on your chest challenging her. If she wants to convince you she'll have to give facts.
"One;" she holds her pointer finger up, "He kissed you! Twice!" after the emphasis she clears her throat and holds up two fingers, "Two; Jimin is a memelord,"
"Memelord? What does that have to do-"
"Shut up and let me talk," she cuts you off before she proceeds to continue, "To us, his friends, Jimin sends silly pictures, especially when he's changed a hairstyle or color...ugh you missed so many good meme-pictures when he got the red hair," she chuckles to herself a little bit as she recalls the silly images that are saved in her phone; for blackmail purposes,
"But he was careful with what he sent to you, now wasn't he?" the girl looks at you with a mischievous glint in her eyes as she wiggles her eyebrows up and down.
"Don't try to pull the 'what you send to your crush and what to your best friend' meme on me, EunBi, he sent a serious picture because he wants a serious response. And besides, we haven't gotten into a level of friendship where we send each other ugly pictures," you state with a serious gaze on your face.
"Oh, and you're on a level of friendship where you can kiss on the new years and on a Facebook live stream?"
"We were drunk! You kissed NamJoon once when you were drunk! Does that mean he likes you?"
"You and your thick head," she mutters under her breath in defeat as she lets her head hang, completely discarding the comment about NamJoon, "Fine, believe whatever you want, but I'm telling you, he likes you."
"Sure, sure," you nod your head in sarcasm.
A moment of silence passes before your phone rings again you look down and see it's a text from Jimin asking if you got blinded by his beauty and that's why you can't respond. You crack a smile and think he's a dork.
"He's even flirting with you, goodness, you're so blind," EunBi squirms from next to you and she forces her face on a pillow in frustration at your actions.
"Shut up," you nudge her while you type up a response, praising his new look and agree with his suspicion of the reason behind your belated response to be playful.
The grin on your face only grows when you notice he's typing up an answer almost immediately after you sent yours. EunBi is watching all of this as she reads the playful conversation exchanged between you and him and she gets a strong urge to smack you on the head for your ignorance. But may everything rest assured, she'll make sure you realize.
Time passed, the clock hit 11 pm and you just put the phone away after ending the two-and-a-half-hour-long conversation with Jimin. EunBi went to sleep not long after Jimin first texted you claiming she was tired from all the crying and sulking, and she actually was.
The reason why you and Jimin ended up talking for so long, is actually the matter of TaeHyung and EunBi that seems to have shocked everybody from your group. It all started out by him asking how EunBi was feeling and you ended up discovering that TaeHyung wasn't feeling any better. As a matter of fact, he was worse.
It turns out that the deep-voiced-boy is mostly innocent. He originally had planned to meet up with only a male friend from his High School and he did, only that SiNa, the girl he was seen being intimate with, showed up not long after and joined the two for a little while. Then TaeHyung's friend, JiSeok, visited the store's bathroom and that's when SiNa started acting flirtatiously towards TaeHyung and ended up kissing him by force while he was trying to explain he's in a committed relationship with someone else. And since the God's of misunderstandings are on TaeHyung's side, that moment happened to be the one EunBi spotted him. And then of course hell was let loose.
Both, you and Jimin, feel bad for the situation that has taken place. For a little while, until they make up (hopefully), even hanging out as a group with the boys and you two girls, it is going to be hard, given the thick atmosphere the separated two will create. And of course, hanging out is not the only thing where a problem is caused. This affects the preparation for the competition as well if the members of the group aren't in good terms and synchronization with each other, it will be hard to show the good and needed chemistry on the performance.
Hence something needs to be done to help out the two. Well, of course not immediately, it's too soon. There's the possibility of them working it out on their own, although unlikely. Yet, you and Jimin agreed, if it goes to extends that can't be bared, you'll give them a few pushes to work their way out of the problem. Whether that's with convincing them to talk and listen willingly, or locking them in a room with no food and water until they sort it out.
The first couple of days things were...quiet. Everyone had decided to not start preparing for the competition right after returning for multiple reasons; each person had a few things to take care of right after returning and most importantly there was TaeHyung and EunBi. The pair still hasn't made any steps towards improving which, in a sense, is logical. And it's obvious they both need more time. But there's only so much they can have. The clock is ticking.
"Okay, NamJoon, I-I'll do my best," you mutter into the phone quietly so that EunBi doesn't hear you from anywhere in your apartment. The worried leader called you in hopes of having you convince EunBi to come to the first rehearsal after vacation. Having seen EunBi this morning you knew that was going to be a challenge, as it later proves to be, but you agreed nonetheless. NamJoon has his way of convincing people, for sure.
And yes, you were absolutely right. You had to talk for three hours to convince EunBi to go to the rehearsal. There was a lot of crying and sobbing involved from her side. At some point your eyes started stinging, tears threatening to roll down, at the sight of your friend but you kept yourself collected. You just stayed there and comforted her, wishing you could just tell her what Jimin had told you the other night but those are TaeHyung's words to explain, not yours.
"Please, EunBi," you soothe her back with small circles, "The other guys are really depending on you," you know pushing like this is in no way going to help her feel any better but you hope that something will happen if she comes and sees TaeHyung. Hopefully, they'll confront each other and share the truth.
"I can't see him, Y/N," she squints her eyes tighter as she feels the sting, each second becoming stronger, and she pushes her face further into your neckline, "It hurts too much," her voice is small and delicate, you almost don't hear it. It's like she doesn't want to admit how wounded she is, not to herself, not to you, not to anyone, and especially TaeHyung. But it's obvious and she can't deny it either.
You sigh. It's not like you'd be any better if this was you.
Goodness, TaeHyung, how did you manage this?
"We have a few hours until the rehearsal...Do you perhaps wanna take a nap and once you feel a bit better we can discuss the possibility of going?" she pulls away from you and looks at you with the red and puffy eyes. She sniffs as she looks down and pouts her lip outward while contemplating the idea.
"Yeah, sure," she agrees and she wipes her sleeve under her eye again. She winces as her skin has become too sensitive for anything.
"I told you it'd hurt if you kept rubbing your eyes like that," you raise an eyebrow and she blows some raspberries with a scolding face,
"Shut up, Y/N," she growls and you chuckle as you help her up and guide her to her bed.
"I'll fetch you a glass of water," you mumble as she gets under the covers.
By the time you return with the glass of fresh and cool water in your hands the exhausted girl is already asleep lightly snoring into a happy dreamland where things with TaeHyung are perfectly fine and they haven't split.
Pursuing your lips you quietly set the glass on her nightstand and walk out closing the door on your way.
Sighing, you pull your phone from your pocket and dial NamJoon's number. The odds aren't in his favor this day.
"NamJoon's phone," a familiar voice answers and you furrow your eyebrows not expecting it.
"Jimin?" Your stomach made a small flip.
"Oh- Y/N, hi. I didn't see the I.D. when I answered," he explains, surprised to have heard your voice, "NamJoon's in the bathroom right now. How is EunBi?"
"Yeah..., things are bad. It doesn't look like she'll be going to the rehearsal today," you explain and Jimin stays silent for a few seconds processing your words. Soon after, you hear him sigh.
"Makes sense...," his voice sounds much deeper and slightly more saddened this time, "TaeHyung wants to stay home and sulk as well."
"Oh...," you pause and then you get an idea, "Oh,"
"What?"
"What if we tell Tae that EunBi won't be there and then tell EunBi TaeHyung won't be there?" and once you hear yourself say the idea that popped in your mind...it doesn't look like a very good one.
"Won't that be a bit cruel? And they might get mad at us after..."
"Yeah...you're right- It will make the situation worse.
"I guess the only thing we can do is keep on trying and if they don't come- well then we'll just to today's rehearsal without them. They'll come around eventually."
"Mhmm," You agree, "EunBi's sleeping right now, I'll try more when she wakes up."
"Okay, then, hope you convince her"
"Hope you guys convince TaeHyung too...,"
"How are you by the way?" he asks after a few seconds of rather awkward silence- neither of you wanting to end the call.
"I'm- eh- I'm doing fine. You know, eating junk food with EunBi and watching dramas all day,"
"Sounds- very exciting and adventurous," Jimin comments jokingly and you laugh.
"Definitely," you agree, "So, how you feelin' with your new hair? Gotten the attention of any ladies or gents, yet?" you ask attempting to be playful.
"Oh yes, definitely," you hear the voice chuckle on the other end, "I've definitely gotten some catcalls from some bold women. But you know I can't really act on them-" there's a mischievous playfulness in his voice now and you start becoming alarmed and wonder whether it was right to start this conversation or not.
"Why?" you ask like a fool.
"I've got a fake-girlfriend and going behind her back wouldn't be nice you know," he says smoothly and you can literally hear the smirk he has on his face.
You almost choke on your saliva and feel your cheeks heat up. Thankfully by the time you even think of a response NamJoon interrupts the conversation.
"Who you talkin' to?" you hear his voice distantly.
"Y/N," Jimin responds.
"What happened with EunBi?" NamJoon questions curiously.
"Did you wash your hands when you came out of there?" and that's SeokJin's voice. He probably yelled from the kitchen.
"SeokJin, what are you, my mother?" NamJoon roars back.
"NamJoon, if you didn't wash your hands, you're not sitting on this lunch table! Let alone touching anything-"
"Yeah...," you hear Jimin's voice once again, he sounds bewildered by the two elders, "Anywho, Y/N NamJoon's gonna want his phone back after he stops bickering with his husband," the mockery is all over the place and you laugh being amused, "We'll talk later, keep us updated on EunBi,"
"NamJoon-Hyung just wash your hands already!" and that's Jungkook.
"Wow, you guys sure are like a family," you chuckle.
"Sometimes too much," Jimin answers, "Bye-Bye, Y/N,"
"Goodbye," you respond and then the call ends.
Hours pass and you spend them cleaning the apartment a little bit, taking a shower, definitely not thinking about Jimin and his subtle joke during the phone call and then scrolling through social media on your phone to keep your mind distracted from overthinking.
"Hey," You hear EunBi's hoarse voice and you look up to see her standing by the doorframe of your bedroom.
"Hey, how are you?" you ask, letting your phone drop on the mattress.
"I'm feeling a bit better," she responds and pushes her hair back with her hand to get them out of her face, "And you're right. Just because I and TaeHyung are on bad terms right now it shouldn't cause a problem to the team."
"I'm sorry I've to force you like this," you apologize genuinely feeling bad.
"Will you come along with me?" she pleads.
"Yes, of course, that's out of the question."
"Thank you," she nods with a small smile, "I'll go get ready now."
And so she does. Seconds later after EunBi walks out of your room NamJoon calls you on the phone to let you know that TaeHyung has been convinced to come. You share your news with him and then end the call.
Now, you start questioning whether doing this is a good idea. Neither TaeHyung nor EunBI is mentally in a state to face each other. Heck, the girl was crying her heart out a few hours ago and from you've grasped TaeHyung was too. What if this backfires? What if they're not ready to sit down and have a conversation? But maybe they don't need to be ready. Maybe they'll never feel ready and it just needs to happen.
Take a leap of faith they say. That's what you will do and hope it works out.
"Eunbi, I understand you're mad at him," you lean on the doorframe of her bedroom while she digs through her clothes in search of the most revealing practice clothes she owns, "But getting back at him by pretending you're fine when you aren't- it's not going to help in any way..."
She sighs and drops a neon orange shirt she held as she plops on her bed. All of a sudden she got possessed by the sudden need to doll-up and pretend that she's living her best life to make him jealous and regretful.
"And what am I supposed to do?" she looks at you with trouble written in her eyes, "Go there looking like the mess that I am, breakdown the moment I see him and watch him give me cold looks while the messages that girl he made out with?"
"What in the freaking world?" you gasp taken aback by her words, "Why do you even think he's talking to her? I promise you he's not!"
"W-well...it just makes sense that he keeps contact with her you know...a-and besides during our fight, he did say that SiNa- o-or whatever her name is- would probably not act out the way I did. Ah, I don't know, I'm just convinced he's having the time of his life without me-"
"Sweetheart, it's not like this," you explain, cupping her cheeks as you take a seat down next to her, "I talked with NamJoon and Jimin earlier and they said he's eating ice-cream and binge-watching anime with no stop."
"He is?" she looks into your eyes with hope.
"He's as much a mess as you are," you assure and she chuckles, "And really now, about the things he said- you know people say stupid stuff they don't mean during fights. It's all in the heat of the moment. Unfiltered thoughts."
"Well...I must admit that I did say some things I didn't mean either...," she looks down in shame.
"I know, but you guys can talk it out," you give her a tight hug.
"I'm so lucky I have you, Y/N," she mumbles into the hug.
"I'm lucky to have you too, now come on get dressed or we'll be late," you urge her and so she does. Dropping the plan of overdressing and pretending.
Thankfully she doesn't take a lot to prepare, she puts all the stuff she needs in a sports-bag and off the two of you are to the dance studio HoSeok and Jimin work at. Once you walk in you find everyone except TaeHyung and NamJoon in there.
"Damn, that blonde suits you," EunBi comments the moment her eyes fall upon Jimin after she did a quick scan in search of TaeHyung in the room. Her stomach fell at ease once she didn't spot him.
"I know right?" he smiles cheekily and then he looks at you for a moment without saying anything.
"EunBi!" HoSeok's voice sounds and you see the man approaching you, soon the other members join you forming a circle, "How are you?" he asks concerned.
"Well...," EunBi trails off not sure of what answer to give him, "How do you think I am?" she retorts and her expression literally shows all the sorrow.
"I'm sorry," HoSeok puts his hand on her shoulder to show comfort, "But you should definitely sit and talk with him about this-"
"HoSeok, don't" she cuts him, "I came here for the group, not this."
HoSeok nods his head in understanding and the other boys cleat their throats as the awkward silence take place among them.
Just as Jungkook is about to open his mouth and open a topic for discussion the door opens and they all figure by the sound it makes. They turn their heads to the direction, expecting it to be TaeHyung and NamJoon returning from wherever they'd gone off to.
But it's not.
EunBi's jaw falls on the floor once her eyes fall on the girl entered the room. She recognizes her immediately. It's SiNa.
"Um...Hello?" the newcomer says awkwardly as she looks around the room with wide eyes in search of someone, "Is Kim TaeHyung here? I was told he'd be...I've to talk to him about something urgent."
The atmosphere stiffens and that is due to EunBi's presence. Oh, thank goodness TaeHyung isn't here either, or things would've been worse.
"Hello?" SiNa asks again after a few seconds of not receiving an answer from any of the seven people in the room, "Is everything alright?"
"Nope," EunBI answers bitterly. You feel her grab your wrist tightly and turn you around to face her. She looks angry.
"Listen, people, I'm quitting from the team and Y/N will take my place. I can't do this. Goodbye," she states looking at everyone else. Then she lets go of your wrist and walks away towards the door.
She angrily bumps shoulders with the girl, never looking back and she runs out.
You're all too shocked to run after her.
"Is this a bad time?" SiNa asks, furrowing her eyebrows and pointing her thumb towards the door which her back is facing.
"Someone go after EunBi!" YoonGi speaks loudly and somehow that has you break free from the shock and your legs move to chase after her but it's too late.
She's disappeared.
