Chapter 48- The Truth
"Because I carried you all the way from the first floor to here yestrday," he says and your eyes nearly jump out of their sockets.
"What?" you ask, your eyes still wide as they stare at a seemingly annoyed Mark.
Damn, he really must have a bad picture about you in his mind.
"Y-you carried me up those stairs? F-from the first floor, t-to the eighth?" you ask, stuttering once or twice.
"Exactly," he mutters purses his lips.
What.
The actual.
Fuck?
He seriously carried me all the way up?
Oh my goodness.
But wait.
How did they know I was there?
"H-how, how exactly did you guys find out I was in the elevator?" you ask, still taken aback and embarrassed by the fact that he carried you.
Instantly, Mark's face loses the confidence it once showed and it becomes unsure, "Uuuummm," he begins not sure of what to say, "I don't know, Eunbi just told me that you were stuck in the elevator, ask her," he says the first thing that pops up in his mind.
"I have to go now, see you later," he brushes you off, smoothly escaping your upcoming questions and leaves the kitchen.
While you are standing there, utterly flustered by the fact that someone carried you up to eight floors and you had no idea about it because you were knocked out real bad, and up till a few moments ago that person thought your were knocked out because of too much alcohol consumption.
Perfect.
Uuughhh, Eunbi!!! Wake up! I want to know about yesterday!!
You sigh looking up at the ceiling wondering why the heck the universe is against you. Not being able to give an answer to yourself, or, receive one from another force, you finish eating your breakfast and then go to your room to change your clothing.
You quietly enter your room, careful not to wake up the sleeping Eunbi, who might turn into a monster if you dare to wake her up before the right time.
You tiptoe to your closet, open it and pull out a pair of black leggings and a black sweater. You, as soundlessly as possible, close the closet and exit the room.
Soon you find your way towards the bathroom, with your clothes on your hands. You close the bathroom door and start changing; You pull of your hoodie and put it in the laundry.
You turn to your left to take the sweater you have prepared to wear, but your eyes fall on the mirror and you notice a few blue marks around your arms and body; they're bruises.
What the heck?
You press on a bruise on your arm and you feel the pain shot through your skin.
"How did I get these?" you ask examining more the bruises.
You begin counting the amount of bruises you have on your body but suddenly you hear the sound of a door opening. Your eyes avert towards the door and indeed it is open, and one who barged in the bathroom is Mark, Eunbi's step brother.
His eyes turn wide and he looks like a deer caught in headlights. Your eyes widen as well and a shade of hot pink finds its way up to your cheeks as you rush to grab the hood in front the laundry in front of your body to cover yourself.
Thank goodness you are wearing a sports bra and it helps the case a little bit, but nonetheless it is awkward.
Mark blinks a few times and with no words, closes the door, in the speed of light.
"Fuck!" you whisper-yell under your breath as you rush to the door and lock it.
Seriously! Why?
What have I done?
Ooooh the embarrassment...
And for goodness sake, doesn't he know how to knock?!
And so on you keep wondering what else is going to go wrong today.
Once you finish getting changed you walk towards the door unlock it, expecting Mark's absence from the other side. However that is not the case.
Mark is right there, next to the door, leaning on the wall, waiting for you to come out so he can apologize and use the bathroom afterwards.
You become startled once you see him standing there, with his tall figure (taller than you at least).
You feel like avoiding him at all costs is better and so, you should keep walking towards the living room without exchanging and words with him.
Yet again, it doesn't go down this way.
In fact he clears his throat, just as you are about to take a step towards the living room, and your body stops responding to your brains requests.
You stop on your spot, and turn to look at Mark while raising your eyebrows, signaling him that he should speak.
"I-I'm sorry about before," he begins stuttering at the beginning. You notice that he too has become flustered and it kind of makes your heart melt; just the fact that he's not being annoyingly vein, or even teaseses you about it is enough,"But you should have locked the door! Especially since you're going to change, lock your door," he points out, looking at you like you broke an unwritten law.
His sudden change of attitude and the way he sees the matter, putting the blame on you, kind of irritates you. A lot actually, "Well, don't guests know that they should knock before entering a room such as the bathroom?" you spit back, giving a strict look towards Mark, who is again taken aback by you.
If we're being honest, it is both your fault, you should have locked the door and he should have knocked, knowing that you are wide awake and could be using the bathroom at any moment.
But, Mark wasn't intending on blaming you for this, he knows he's at fault too, he didn't truly mean to say that, it just slipped out of his mouth because he had no idea of what else to say. But he'll make up for it.
"You're right, I'm sorry, we're both at fault," He says clearing his throat once again, avoiding your gaze.
Now, this sentence you agree with,
"It's okay, as long as you saw nothing," you say half serious, but half in a joking manner to make the mood lighter.
"I promise I saw nothing!" he says, his eyes going wide once again, as he pushes himself against the door frame, with a small jump, in a funny way.
Seing that he has not grasped the fact that he should continue the 'joke' and he is being utterly serious, you lose the confidence you once gained and become awkward again.
"O-okay, g-good," You say, turning your head the other way and trying to fish your hands in your pockets, but there are no pockets, in the first place, as you're wearing leggings, "I'll go now, you can use the bathroom,"
From the corner of your eye you see him nod his head and both of you, with awkward movements, go towards your destination.
You go to the living room and seat yourself on the couch. You stare at the blank TV as the scene, that took action a bit ago, runs through your mind like a movie.
After you snap yourself back to reality, you take the remote on your hands and open the television.
As you skip through the channels to find a program to entertain you until the time comes to make breakfast, Mark passes through the living room, to get to the front door, wearing sports clothes, while fixing his earbuds in his ears.
"Um, I'm leaving, I'll be back in a few hours," he says, still feeling awkward and you nodding your head, incapable of saying anything.
You close the TV in irritation as the front door closes and Mark's foot steps can be heard as he goes down the stairs.
You need something to do, something to get your mind off, something to occupy yourself with.
It still is too early to start making breakfast for Eunbi and her mother.
Suddenly an idea pops up in your head;
You could go for a workout as well, you haven't done it the past few days, and it can be a good way to let the some steam out.
But,
Mark has also gone for a workout.
Copying him doesn't feel like the best thing to do.
Aaaaaaaahh, what should I doooo?
You're being suffocated by boredom, at this point you're twirling around yourself while looking up at the ceiling, for no specific point.
At some point you get dizzy and fall on the lie on the couch.
With no courses going on I have nothing to do,
You think realizing that you practically have no plans for the holidays, as the original ones did not include staying in South Korea.
"Aaah, I'll just watch some YouTube videos," you mumble and get up off the couch to go to your room and take your phone.
You connect your phone with your headphones and lie on the couch again, while watching your favorite YouTubers and funny videos.
Time passes quickly and it is finally time to get your arse up and make breakfast, while also listening to music.
By now both Eunbi and her mother are sitting at the table, both devouring the breakfast you've made, after of course asking how you are feeling after the previous day's events. To which you respond positively.
"It is delicous, Y/N!" Eunbi's mom comments.
"Eeh, thank you," you say kind of embarrassed, not being used to he complemented about something you have cooked.
"Aah, this was nice, I have to go get dressed now, I'll be back, girls, eat well," Eun-bi's mom says and stands up leaving the kitchen.
You wait for Eunbi's mom to shut the door to her daughter's room closed and you finally get the chance to shoot your questions.
"So, um... I have a few questions about yesterday...," You trail off, carefully looking at Eun-bi since she is the one who is most likely going to give u an answer.
"Yes...?" Eunbi says, more like asks, while taking a spoonful of rice.
"How did you exactly know I was in the elevator yesterday?"
Eunbi sets down her pair of metal chopsticks and carefully gulps down her food, "well," she begins, trying to recall whatever she and Jimin came up with yesterday, "Um...,I knew you were in the building, since we had texted, and since we didn't see you when me, mom and Mark were coming up those stairs there were only two options for you to leave, it was either up, or the elevator, we checked up stairs, you weren't there then we called the specialist for the elevator and boom, we found you," she says proud of her self for telling the lie correctly.
You furrow your eyebrows processing the information and it seems rather logical to you so you nod your head, "But, why do I have so many bruises all over my body?"
Eunbi freezes for a moment thinking that it's because of the many positions the boys changed you and their kept having you hit parts of your body on the wall and the metal fencing.
She doesn't know how to respond to that, Jimin nor Mark had mentioned this problem yesterday so they did not come up with a story, "Uuum, I have absolutely no idea, maybe you tried sleepwalking the elevator and hit yourself?" she asks, hoping that you buy this lie but, it is too irrational.
"I don't think that is why...," You give her a suspicious look and by the guilty look she's giving you she is hiding something from you.
"Eunbi, you aren't telling me something. What is it?" you ask raising an eyebrow but the conversation is cut off as Mark has returned and is now in the kitchen with you.
Eunbi finds a loophole and changes the subject completely, "Oppa, where were you?" she asks him as he sits down next to her, stealing some of her food.
"I went for a run," he says,
"You'll need to take a shower... You're sweaty," Eunbi comments, "Y/N can you go open the thermostat?" she asks and you nod as you stand up and go to the bathroom to turn it on, so it can heat up the water.
As you return to the kitchen, though, before you enter the you happen to hear a very interesting conversation between Mark and Eunbi.
"Did you tell her the lie?" Mark asks.
"I did, but I don't think she believes me," Eunbi responds.
"Well, Jimin made it pretty clear that he doesn't want her to know that the was the one to tell us and event came over to help," Mark comments and your jaw drops to the floor.
What?
Jimin?
He told them?
And he even came over?
He carried me too?
"I still don't understand, why doesn't he wanna let her know? Ah! I swear, he is being very stupid!" Eunbi sighs in irritation.
"What are you gonna do now?" Mark asks her and you decide to step in.
"How about you guys tell me the truth?" you suggest with a demanding voice, meaning that you'll accept nothing else but the truth.
Both their heads turns to your direction and their shocked faces are rather amusing, making you want to snicker however you cannot indulge.
Eunbi turns to her brother giving a look that lets him know she's going to tell you,
"Well she found out, it's not like she'll believe anything else I tell her," she shrugs and you nod in agreement.
So, you sat down in front of the two siblings and they explained what happened yesterday.
"So, you're telling me that," you pause for a moment, gathering your thoughts, "Jimin, came here, and told you that I called him and told him that I was stuck in the elevator, and that he and you," you point at Mark, "carried me upstairs."
You look at them, your eyes giving away a hint of disbelief, however it is the most logical explanation you can be given.
"Yes," Eunbi states looking at you straight in your eyes.
You squint your eyes at her, trying to break her, incase she is not telling you the truth again.
"Why do I find that hard to believe?" you freely speak your thoughts.
However this story can not possibly be a lie, since you actually overheard Eunbi and Mark stating that Jimin was here yesterday, and also it should not seem that much a crazy idea that Jimin actually helped you. Yes, you may not have positive feelings for each other but still his conscious would be burdened, countless whether you've made a deal or not,
so he had no option but to help you, unless he wanted to feel guilty.
"Wether you believe it or not, it's the truth," Mark states and your eyes avert at him.
"You're right... But still, it's hard to believe he violated our deal...,"You trail off.
"But he did!" Eunbi begins, "Now you'll go thank him and then he'll respond positively to you, and then you'll have no reason to be mean to him and a beautiful friendship will blossom between the two of you!" she finishes with her little story and somehow you feel like you want things to escalate that way, but you're sure it won't happen.
"Aah, It won't happen this way, but I'll thank him nonetheless, if not for him I could still be in that elevator," you state as you lean on the table and rest your head on your hand.
"Why aren't you and Jimin on good terms?" Suddenly Mark pops up in the conversation, he was so quiet you actually forgot about his presence.
"I tried befriending him when I first came here, but he clearly didn't and still doesn't want to befriend me," You blankly stare at the refrigerator.
"How do you know he still doesn't?" he asks.
"If he did, he wouldn't have asked you to tell me he didn't come over to help," you state and bite the insides of your cheek as anger bubbles up inside you.
Seriously, why doesn't he just let you in?
What problem do you have for him to not be friends with you?
It can't be the fact that you are a foreigner.
Seriously, if that is the case then he is a big, fat, racist ass.
"Oh, Mark, you're back!" Eunbi's mom enters the kitchen cutting off your angry train on thoughts.
Once your eyes fall on her, you notice she is all dressed up even out make up on.
This woman truly knows how to transform herself.
"Yes," he smiles at his mother, "Did you sleep well?" he asks her.
"Yes, your sister's mattress is way, way better than the one you have at your apartment," his mother tells him, with playful sarcasm and he he gives her a playful offended face expression.
"I'm glad you slept well," he smiles at her, and you can't help but secretly smile at the picture in front of you.
He seems to have such a good bond with his mother...
"So, how are you guys going to spend your day today? I have to run a few errands and visit a friend of mine, so I'll be out of your business," Mrs, Choi says, making sure that she'll be no bother to the three of you today.
Not that she ever is nosy, she's nothing like the nosy mother's you in kdramas, she knows how to give space to her children and that they are grown, but when it she knows they need help, she won't hesitate.
"Oh, well, me and Y/N have to go and Taehyung's because we have to practice the songs," Eunbi states and you are taken aback a little bit by the fact that she's saying you'll go there as well, "Mark, you can come as well to see the boys," she turns to look at her brother who smiles brightly, agreeing with her.
"Okay, then, I'll be back late in the evening, see you then," she says waves goodbye at all three of you before leaving the apartment.
"Come on let's go get dressed we're going to he late," Eunbi says and drags you to your room, "AND MARK YOU TAKE A SHOWER YOU STINK," she yells from your room to Mark who responds in the same way;
"I DON'T NEED YOU TO TELL ME THAT,"
Eunbi chuckles at her brother and then turns to you,
"First, I can get dressed on my own, " you tell her," Second, why do I need to come?" you raise your eyebrow in question.
"Because I say so, and besides you have knowledge in this, we'll need your help and opinion," she says, "Now, get rid of that nest in your hair and actually try to look like a human being," she says before editing your room to go to her own one.
You sigh as you walk to your mirror and take a look at the mess your hair is in,
And all this time I was like that in front of Mark and his Mother?
Greeeeeaaaaaaaattttt...
Just as you brush your hair, a sudden thought pops up to your mind.
Jimin is also going to be there.
And of course you'll have to thank him for the rescue.
