Chapter 32- Balance
"Why are you so kind to me?" he asks, now his voice in full seriousness.
This question catches you totally off guard, you were expecting some casual drunk man's question, such as why is the sky blue, or why isn't pink a natural hair color, but this... This was far away from your expectations and you don't really understand what he means by it so as to give him an accurate answer.
"What do you mean, Jimin?" you ask him as you set his boots down and head to fix the pillows underneath him to make him more comfortable.
"I mean t-that I'm so bad towards you, eshpecially today, yet again here you are taking care of meee," he mispronouncing a few words but his words make you fall into deep thought.
Of course he's been hostile and mean to you with no valid reason (for you at least) and yet again you keep helping him whenever he's at need. You're not supposed to help him, you're not friends, you're not family, you're nothing but two people who are supposed to dislike each other.
Yet, again that gut inside you doesn't want to be that way. You want to get on better terms with him, you want to become friends with him, you want him to see that you're not a bad person, that you are trustworthy. You want to be able to see past his hostile and cold and overconfident self, you want to see the shy, kind, caring and Jimin that everyone keeps talking about.
Everytime you decide that you should plainly give up in this attempt to befriend him and make him see that you're not what he thinks that you are, he does small actions that give you hope and keep trying and grabbing every chance there is to interact with him.
It's like repeating cycle, he's nice, you get hope to continue then he turns hostile and bring brings you to the point of giving up and then goes back to doing something that gives you hope, starting all over again
Throughout all those circles, you told yourself that you'd try to get closer to him without getting attached. You like to think that you haven't gotten attached yet, but your actions say otherwise.
If you hadn't gotten attached enough, then you wouldn't be bringing his drunk ass to your house to take care of him. You'd search for one of your mutual friends at the party and have them take care of him and then you'd head off to your apartment spending the rest of the night with movies and pizza, with no guilt, not caring about what you said to Chae-Rin you would do.
If you didn't care enough, you wouldn't be so much convincing towards Chae-Rin when you played the good girlfriend, saying heart-melting words to make her shut up.
Suddenly, you realize that indeed you have gotten attached to him and if you don't make the terms between you more satisfying you're going to burst.
On the other hand, you feel like bursting at the thought that you didn't keep the promise you made to yourself.
However before you can find a solution and get rid of all those mixed feelings, Jimin's voice cuts your train of thoughts off once again and you fail to convince yourself that you've not done such thing so as to get attached to him.
"I'm sorry," he says.
"About what?" you ask and sit on the floor cross-legged and looking up at him.
"About what I said about your parents today...," He in a Whisper, barely audible, but you don't fail to hear it.
You take in a sharp breath and hold it in for a few seconds.
He's doing that thing again.
He's showing you is other side.
He's filling you up with hope, making you believe that the outcome will be satisfying in the end if you keep staying close to him instead of giving up and keeping him as far away as possible.
Maybe it will have a good result, maybe you will become friends. (a/n maybe sth more....) Maybe you'll probably get past this hatred between the two of you and reach a point where you'll laugh at the memories of you two insulting each other.
But what is it doesn't?
And now, insecurities crash in.
What if you are being used?
What of he's playing, and showing you those small glimpses of kind-Jimin to you, so as to wrap you around his finger and have you do the dirty job with the Chae-Rin situation for him?
But... No one can be that pathetic, arrogant and cruel so as to fool someone else like that, right?
And, if Jimin truly were like that the other six boys and Eun-bi wouldn't appreciate, love and cherish their small mochi like that...
After a few silent moments, you get snapped off your daze as Jimin turns to his side, places his hands underneath his cheeks and look at you.
"I really shouldn't have said it. I'm really ssorrrrry," he says, slurring a little bit, yet his voice sounds utterly honest.
You look up and search for his features in the dark, but since your eyes have become accustomed to the dark lighting you don't fail to see that he's pouting.
You find your self at a confusion once again. How should you respond?
Should you not accept his drunk apology and scold him for what he said or should you accept it and try to make another step to get closer to him.
As you go through the options, the one that gives the more delightful feeling at your stomach is the second one. But now your logic is more persistent and urges you to throw the apology at his face and prove that he can't clear his record with a few sentences that he might not mean.
Then again, before you can even conclude, he takes action, having grown impatient and a little bit insecure at your silence, he needs to eliminate all chances of you not forgiving him.
"Please forgive me, I promise I'll make it up to you!" he says and reaches his hand out to your face and once it comes in contact with your head he examines your face, and once he reaches your nose he captures it between his index and middle finger lightly pushing it from the right to the left and the opposite,
"And I have the peeeerrrrrfect way for it, You'll come to Busan with me!!" he cheers and pinches your nose before giving you a bright toothless eye smile.
You stay dumbfounded at this and a weird unidentified feeling consumes you, "What?"
"I'm not taking no as an answer! You'll forgive me and I'll take you to Busan with me!" he insists and flicks your forehead shocking you even more.
"In fact I'll call omma (mom) right now and tell her! She doesn't like bringing people home without letting her know first," he says and pulls out his phone from his Jean's pocket but you snatch it away before he even gets the chance to unlock it.
"Yaaaahh!! Give it back! I want to call my omma!" he whines and reaches for his phone held by your hand but you stand up and take a few steps away from him.
"You can't call her Jimin! It's two a.m. You'll wake her up," you exclaim stating the obvious at Jimin who is now standing up and drunkily walks to you.
"I really like how you care about everyone, no matter who they might be, even my mom that you just heard of" he says and gives you an honest smile.
His words catch you off guard and they manage to bring a blush to your cheeks. He said that he really likes something about you. First time you ever heard him say anything positive about you and even in his drunken state it overwhelms you.
"A-nd besides, you don't really want me to go with you, you're just d-drunk, lets save us both the presence of each other," you stutter, saying what you believe would be the appropriate answer to a sober Jimin, who would probably be messing with you if he ever suggested something like that.
But right now? Sober Jimin is no where to be seen. We have drunk Jimin who apparently acts on his feelings and desires, not letting logic, his fears of betrayal, and any other obstacle he has, keep him away from acting as he wants to act, do what he wants to do, and say what he wants to say.
So, if drunk-him says he wants to go to Busan with him, then that must be sober-Jimin's desire that is hidden very well, even from his own mind.
To be honest, going with Jimin to his hometown doesn't seem so bad to your subconscious, however, your logic is only screaming that things will get more complicated and you don't wish such thing. (or do you?)
"Oh well, too bad for both of us, because you are coming," he says and snatches his phone from your, now, loose grip and the rushes to the kitchen and locks the door behind him.
Your eyes go wide as you realize what is going to happen;he's going to call his mother and wake her up in the middle of the night to tell her something that he is probably going to cancel first thing tomorrow once he's sober.
How the fuck did he dash to the kitchen without losing his balance? HE'S DRUNK FOR FUCK'S SAKE!
You think questioning where he managed to find the balance and courage to run to the kitchen and lock the door behind him as you dash to the kitchen door and start knocking on it.
Yet, you stop and freeze once you hear his cheerful giggles and greeting towards his mother, "Ommaaaa!!!"
"Jimin don't!!!!" You say with a raised voice so as to be heard, but you only hear him hush you in response.
For the next five minutes you keep hearing muffled words that you cannot make sense out of and Jimin's uncontrollable giggles.
What is this kid doing? For goodness sake, please come out.
You are now sitting on the floor, back resting on the door and you're aimlessly rocking your legs bag and forth. You've given up in trying to change his mind, since he's already woken his mother up there's no reason to keep urging, he'll probably call her again tomorrow to let her know that you won't be going.
You stomach slightly drops at this thought, but you arrogantly shake it off saying that you're not really feeling bummed over this.
You hear a crash coming from the other side of the door, it sounds like pots fall over on the floor, after that you hear Jimin's yell and a glass breaking.
You shoot up from the floor and try to open the door, however since Jimin locked the door, you cannot open it.
You start getting worried as you do not hear anymore sounds.
What happened?
Is he okay?
Did he hurt himself?
Has he fainted?
Why did he yell?
Horrible scenarios go through your mind and you find yourself worrying even more,
"Jimiiiiin!!!!!" You yell from the other side of the door,
Please be okay!!!
Once you stop messing with the door handle you hear his groans and the sound of metal moving on the floor, you stay silent, paying attention to the sounds, and you hear him unlocking the door, at this you fling it open.
Once it is open enough, your hands find themselves on his face and your eyes are roaming for any place that could've been harmed.
"What happened?" you ask once you see that his face is clear, besides that bruise that is starting to form from Cody's fist.
Damn, you should've taken care of it when you got here, then again how could you? He's been all surprises today.
"Just a few pots fell over and I broke a glass," he hangs his head in shame and pouts.
You sigh loudly, "You're okay at least, right?" you ask, wondering if he hurt himself in any place that you might have not noticed.
"Actually...," He looks up and awkwardly brings his left hand up and you see his palm is all bloody once again and a piece of the broken glass is stuck in it.
Your eyes go wide at the sight and he bites his lip in response, "How did you manage that?" you ask in a whisper as you take his hands in yours and try to examine it.
"Uuuuh, I lost my balance?" he asks and gives you an awkward I'm-in-pain smile.
