Chapter 27- The Dress
"What happened?" you hear Jimin's voice and you realize that he was silently standing there the hole time when you talked to your mother.
You sigh, "I won't be leaving tomorrow".
And at this sentence an unwanted smile creeps up to Jimin's lips.
"Why are you smiling?" you ask as anger starts boiling up in you. You just found out that you won't be spending the new year's eve with the people you love most and he is smiling like a fool.
Why?
"That means you're coming to the party," he says relieved now.
He was actually really worried about you not going, that is why he insisted on it so much before. If you don't go he'll have to go alone and if he goes alone then he's a tiny fish ready to be eaten by Shark-Rin. Now, if you were not to go he could not go as well, but since he wants to keep a cool image for himself and all those kids in college, that he doesn't know who they are but they all know him for his dancing skills and dating Chae-Rin, he can't not go.
You become dumbfounded at his words. Is he seriously that vain and selfish? You just found out your the plans that you were so excited about have been cancled, and all he can think about is you going to that party to protect his stupid Jibooty?
Arrogant, indeed.
"Now, come on let me see what clothes you have," he says and dashes to your room to search through the clothing that you own.
Stupid, arrogant jerk!
If he wants to be like this, then you might as well become stubborn and push on with not going.
"Jimin st-," you say once you enter your room but freeze once you see all of your clothing being scattered around on your bed and the floor.
"What do you actually think you're doing?" you ask with wide open eyes.
"Ugh," Jimin sighs in disgust, "Your sense of style is seriously the worst," he says in disgust attempting to insult you. However, deeps down he unconsciously believes that you look stunning in just sweatpants and t-shirts. But... He's not near realizing or admitting that yet.
You look at him shocked, blinking a few times, as he nonchalantly continues to throw your shirts out of your closet,
"Jimin stop!" Υou say with a raised voice and he peeks his head to look at you with a raised eyebrow, "Stop throwing my clothes around! I am not going to that party! Whether I am leaving tomorrow or not. Now, if you please, leave!"
Jimin looks at you-now both eyebrows raised-in shock, but he's intrigued, nonetheless. It's of the few times that he sees you angry, pissed off or however you want you call it and, let me tell you, he's getting that weird feeling in his stomach, you know, the electricity rushing through him? All your features have turned hard in a most perfect way and he can't help but admire them for a second.
However, he snaps himself out of that as he realizes that you're opposing to his words and he can not have that. You need to go with him, otherwise he's screwed. This is why he doesn't like depending too much on people he doesn't trust completely. In the end they'll let him down.
"That is not an option, and I am not going anywhere," he says in a monotonous voice, trying to hide from you the fact that you are needed, and he digs his head back in the wardrobe searching for a good piece of clothing.
You clench your jaw as your anger boils up even more at his actions. It's not only Jimin's actions that are preparing you to lash out right now, it's more about the fact that you won't be seeing your loved ones for another few months until you have break, and Jimin's actions are just what you don't need right now. They are like the tiny sparks that land on cloth drenched in gasoline--being your canceled plans--and set everything on fire.
You need to calm down. If you let yourself lash out you might say things that will most likely hurt him and you'll regret, besides you might as well say something that you don't want him to hear...considering that once you are brought to the point of having a serious lash out, you don't give a fuck about your words and just fire them in the air. Good thing is, that you don't let yourself get to that point easily.
"Jimin," You try saying with a calm voice.
"Mmhhm," he hums continuing to look though your closet,
"Oh! This one says something" he mutters and pulls out a black dress you had hidden at the very, very, very, back of your closet.
This dress is made from made from black fabric. It reveals some of your chest, not too much, but enough to look sexy, it continues to the waist with an A-line and the skirt which is flared stops on mid-thigh.
As you look at it, images of a day when your mother had been bugging you all day to try this dress on because she believed it would look good on you, after hours and hours of bugging you finally agreed and the moment she saw you in it she wouldn't stop gushing saying you looked very beautiful and that this dress fit your athletic body very much. After that she spent endless hours trying to convince you to take the dress along to S. Korea just for any case. At first you kept opposing saying that you won't be needing any dresses, trying to get away from her torture;
"I only have one daughter, and she doesn't wear dresses and shirts, what went wrong?"
She would say countless times to make you feel guilty, however your mind on dresses and skirts would not change. You can not find skirts or dresses comfortable; You feel too exposed when you happen to be wearing one and besides what about all those wind accidents and not being able to sit the way you feel like for reasons such us not giving a full view of your underwear to someone else?
No, pants are more safe and comfortable.
So, your only reason to ever wear a skirt or a dress would be to grab a boy's attention. You've haven't liked someone enough, so as to go through the trouble and change your appearance or anything else to receive their attention and maybe start something.
Nomatter what, though, your mother would still complain on your denial to wear dresses, specifically, the one dress that is hanging from Jimin's hands right now.
Huh... That woman... She actually convinced me to take it along...
You chuckle to yourself and a another pang of nostalgia hits your chest.
Suddenly, the only feeling you can feel is sadness, instead of the anger you felt seconds ago. You've missed your parents, even their crazy and annoying as hell moments.
You lower your gaze as the only thing you want to do right now, is lie on your couch, hug a pillow and stare into nothingness as you dig yourself in all the blue.
"Meeh, it's not good enough, though," Jimin says after he has examined it and throws it over his shoulder on your bed.
You sigh in sadness and decide to turn around and do what you feel like doing; Lie on the couch and do nothing, while abandoning Jimin in your room,
He'll get bored and eventually leave.
Your think as you bring the gray pillow closer and hug it in your chest, as you start thinking of all those happy moments you spent in (home country) with your friends and family.
It takes Jimin a while to realize that you are actually gone and he furrows his eyebrows in confusion when he doesn't see you angrily staring at him for messing up your room.
He--super cautiously--looks around the rooms for you, thinking that you might pull a prank on him for revenge, however he stops dead on his track when he turns to look in the living room and sees you laying there with a blank expression on your face as the hand that you have under the pillow lazily hands from the couch.
His stomach slightly drops at this sight, and he's irritated at the fact that he doesn't know why he's reacting this way. However, what he can understand is the reason why you are being like this. You did say earlier that you won't be leaving tomorrow, which means that, yes, you get to stay in Seoul, but you don't get to see people that you've missed from back home. Why else would you be so excited to go back if you had no one there?
And now, it strucks him that he acted selfishly towards you and only thought about going to that party, when you are clearly suffering. He feels bad at that, yet he doesn't know how to make it up without being too affectionate.
His entire body wants him to walk there and sit on the ground, lean his back on the couch, just above your head and hold your hanging hand while comforting you.
This is as well, a new emotion for him to see on you. All the times he's seen you, you are either smiling or giving him that uninterested look you tend to give him when he says something stupid.
Yet again, his mind is telling him to stay away, not take this step and come closer to you because it is dangerous.
His at a loss, not knowing what to do, so he just gives in to the stronger out of the two, the body and the mind. His body's desire to be near you, at the moment, combined with the guilt he is feeling for not acknowledging your problem earlier, wins over his logic and he soon finds himself sitting down and taking your hand in his.
"What happened?" he asks with a soft voice.
You not having realized he is there, due to being in very deep thought, become startled and jump a little at the contact but still he doesn't let go of your hand.
You don't know what you should do.
Should you let go of his hand and curl it up under your pillow protecting it from all the piranhas swimming around your couch?
Or should you let him hold it because it actually comforts you and gives your entire body a tiny rush of adrenaline enough to make you come back from your homesick state but not enough to have you push Jimin away instead making you want to hold on to him for more.
"What do you mean?" you ask him making your grip, unintentionally, a little bit tighter around his hand but he doesn't seem to mind.
"Why won't you leave tomorrow? Is everything all right?" he asks with a low voice, but it is enough for you to hear.
His question startles you.
He's in fact showing interest and maybe care about you... This definitely brings butterflies to your stomach and you don't freaking know why but you enjoy the feeling.
However, you try not to freak out and simply answer his question so as not to ruin the moment.
"No, everything is fine, it's just that my parents are going to be traveling and my friends there are already gone, so I'll be alone of I go..." You say with a sad voice as you feel a small lump being created in your throat as you are done saying your words.
No, you cannot open up yourself that much to him. You can't cry. You can't show that you're this weak. Very few people have ever seen you cry and you're not willing to add Park Jimin into that list of people. Even if it feels like he's the best person to cry in front of right now, you cannot do that. You don't know him well enough to show him such vulnerable side of yours.
So, you just gulp down the lump and remain as calm as possible.
"I understand...," Jimin nods his head,
"You don't have to be very sad about it, though. Look on the bright side, you'll get to spend the winter break with Eun-bi and the rest of the boys and they know how to have fun," he continues comforting you and it somehow makes you feel a little bit better.
"Won't they leave for the break?" you ask as you think that these people have families they are away from as well.
"Uuuuh only for four days, they all have too many stuff to cover up and besides we need to start practicing for that contest," he stops for a moment thinking what he should say next,
"and you can probably go along with someone those four days," he says and by now both of you have began playing with each other's fingers not having realized a thing as both of you stay in silence for a few seconds.
And those few seconds Jimin is pondering whether he should tell you that another positive thing about your stay for the break, is that you'll help him with the Chae-Rin situation but he is not sure if should because it feels like he is giving too much power over him. Such power that at some point you could change your mind and use all he's told you against him.
"I'll come to the party..." You say faintly but he hears and it snaps him out of his trace.
"Jinja? (Really?)" he asks as his eyes widen, though you can only see the appealing back of his red-haired head.
"Yeah..." You sigh thinking that you are going to regret this but since he comforted you, you kind of feel like you owe him and besides you guessed that he must have been worried about whether you'd go or not and that is why he refused to hear no as an answer before, thinking that you'll actually obey and go, instead of trying a different method to convince you.
But, we can guess, he learnt his lesson, given that he only needed to acknowledge your problem and make you see the bright side of the story to agree and accompany him.
"Yes, but I'm not wearing a dress," you say and ruffle his hair a little bit and he scuffs, trying to hide from himself the fact that he got goosebumps at your action.
