Chapter 7
I lay in my bed, staring up at the blank ceiling above me. I thought back to the capture the flag game.
~Flashback~
"Go Percy! Find the flag!"Luke exclaimed as he fended off some attackers.
"Right!"I agreed as I slashed my sword towards my opponent's foot making him fall down on instinct.
How did I just do that? I ran off, not paying attention to the ground below me. I fell face first, and face planted to the ground. I then scrambled up back on my feet and ran towards the river boundary. I took off my helmet and cupped the precious water in my hands and began to gulp it down. (What? Water's water even if some water is from a river! Besides, I was thirsty!) I looked at my reflection, but not before seeing another reflection of something in the water too. What? It can't be! The red team's flag! I waded across the river and was about to reach for it in order to grab it when an all too familiar voice interrupted me.
"What are you trying to do, Prissy?"
I mentally groaned. Seriously! I don't have time for people, the likes of you!
Clarisse took another step towards me,"Is that so?"
I mentally face palmed myself. I hadn't realized that I had said that aloud!
I held my stance and slowly started to take Riptide out of my pocket.
"Yes so! And now if you will excuse me, I have a Capture the Flag game to win!"I retorted.
A crowd was beginning to gather around the two rivals as they continued bickering.
Clarisse sighed in mock sadness,"Too bad you won't ever enjoy a victory of your own."
Then she lunged with her spear. The point crackled with electricity. I tried to deflect the incoming hit, but with a twist of her wrist(That rhymed!😝), I was easily disarmed. She kicked me, and in less than a fraction of a second, I was on the ground, gritting my teeth to keep myself from crying out in pain.
Go to the water Percy. Water can do wondrous things...
Who the Hades said that? I mentally shrugged. It didn't hurt to give it a try. I then edged my way towards the river. I held my hand out so I feel its currents receding against my fingertips. Suddenly, the water began to travel up my body and healed all of my wounds from Clarisse. I stood, refreshed and felt as good as new. I stared at my body in wonder. How did I do that?
I ran again at Clarisse and we started fighting. I lunged at her when she had left an opening where I could easily cut her unprotected ribs. She roared in rage and began stabbing at me relentlessly with her spear. A few torturous minutes later, I noticed that Clarisse's tight grip on her spear had lessened. I twisted my wrist, along with Riptide hitting her spear, successfully disarming her. I directed my sword at her throat, and she mumbled something incomprehensible. I smirked. I had a hunch of what she wanted to say.
"Can you say that again sweetheart? I couldn't quite hear you,"I spoke, still smirking.
"FINE! I YIELD!"Clarisse yelled.
I left her standing there as I walked up to the red team's flag and held it up for my team to see. The red team had probably been to afraid to challenge me for it. My teammates began congratulating me while the red team just stood there, glaring at me because I took "their" victory. Then all of sudden, all was silent. They were all staring at the space above my head. I looked up and saw an image of a blue trident above my head.
Chiron seemed to snap out of his daze because he stated,"All hail Perseus Jackson, son of Poseidon, god of the seas."
