Chapter 37
Third person pov
It had been a lot to take in, and a lot to worry about. All Might had requested permission to arrange a meeting between trusted individuals: his former sidekick-- a man by the name of Nighteye, his former teacher-- Gran Torino, and his successor-- Izuku Midoriya. He'd sworn not to breathe a word of their secret, but wanted to tell the listed trio that All For One was still at large. They already knew of his existence after all, and Gran Torino had apparently been a good friend of Atlantis and Hitoshi's grandmother. These were all people who were directly involved with the All For One issue, and All Might's judgement seemed sound even with how distressed he was.
It was kind of Yagi to invite them to be there at all, and it wasn't hard to say yes. Atlantis wanted to be involved with this more than ever and had readily agreed, and Hitoshi had too. Shota coming along had been a no brainer, and it was suggested that they bring Nezu and Recovery Girl in on it too. It was probably for the best. They had to figure out what to do. All For One had to be stopped, and if All Might trusted these people, Atlantis didn't see the harm in trying to trust them too.
There was also the matter of Izuku Midoriya apparently not having had a quirk before the entrance exam. Hell, he still didn't have a quirk. He instead had an ancient, untouched power that grew stronger and stronger each time it was passed on. One that was directly related to one's spirit, and hell if Izuku Midoriya didn't have mountains of that. His will and determination was unmatched even by All Might. That kid truly had no sense of self-preservation. Having him at their meeting was going to be a no-brainer. He deserved to know what was going on the most out of all of them.
The planned meeting, however, was not happening at this exact moment. They weren't huddled up in some remote location stressful discussing the potential fate of the world and mythical, underwater supervillains that had been banished by the sea to roam the surface. No, Atlantis was instead standing in the middle of an empty living room, surrounded by boxes and having absolutely no idea what he was meant to do with himself. The not knowing was a common occurrence here on land, as he still was a little lost when it came to what things were and how they worked, but the point stood.
"I can't believe Present Mic actually got us evicted." Hitoshi drawled from next to him, holding a box of paint jars. He glanced up at his cousin with a sniff, seeming almost as though he were observing his cousin's reaction to it all. Atlantis was somewhat catatonic at everything going on. "You didn't tell me you found a chest full of gold and diamonds."
"I-I didn't know they were worth so much." Atlantis squeaked out, staring out the floor-to-ceiling windows out at the massive saltwater pool. There were men out there constructing something to make it indoor so that they wouldn't be bothered by prying eyes should they decide to swim. The pool was massive, which was apparently rare in Japan. Atlantis didn't claim to know anything about it, but he was emotional. Shota had found them a house. A house. He'd apparently been searching from the moment Present Mic first walked out the door after screaming, which was wise. Could Shota see into the future? He'd predicted that they'd be removed perfectly.
"Maybe we should enroll you in UA classes." Hitoshi half said, half grumbled. He set the box down with a sigh, eyes sweeping over the small mound of things they'd moved in. Atlantis had helped as well, but Aizawa had insisted they make Hizashi carry most of it in since this was 'all his fucking fault, the fucking idiot'. Crude words, but Atlantis was here to observe, not judge. "History in particular."
Atlantis could only nod in agreement. Yeah, that sounded completely plausible. He still knew very little about the surface. No matter how much information he compiled daily, there was always going to be something crucial he wasn't aware of. He saw so many new things everyday, it seemed never-ending. As exciting as it all was, it was relatively stressful at the same time. Atlantis couldn't stop himself from being happy despite how overwhelming it was. Being around other people who he could talk to and connect to wasn't something he'd trade for the world, and having a loving husband like Shota wasn't something he'd ever thought he'd get to have.
The house was beautiful. Set on a street lined with other homes that looked somewhat like it but still had their own unique variations, it was huge, with a second story you could get to by climbing stairs and a white exterior that contrasted against its grey, rounded roof. Shota and Atlantis' bedroom would be up there right across from Hitoshi's. They had more room than they knew what to do with, but this size of the home was apparently adjacent to the size of the pool. His husband had prioritized that over all else, deeming their need to swim most important.
It warmed his heart. The house was way too large for them, but to have a pool of their own to visit whenever they pleased, it was worth it. They could still be close to UA this way, giving them easy access to their jobs. The beach was closer too. Not close enough to see, but the feeling of it just over the horizon brought great comfort to Hitoshi and Atlantis both. As much as they'd love to be up on the shore, being able to enclose their pool in physical walls was invaluable if they wanted to keep their secret. Besides, this way their family had room to grow if they needed it to! It was perfect!
"This is the LAST one!" Hizashi's loud voice boomed, rattling the large windows precariously. Hitoshi and Atlantis jolted, whirling on him with wide eyes that had the slightest hint of a glow to them. Those windows were massive, and though Atlantis didn't know much about this new world, he knew they would be difficult to replace. And expensive. The blonde voice hero seemed to realize this too and jolted, smiling sheepishly and looking sufficiently cowed. "Right! inside voice. My bad you guys."
Atlantis immediately calmed, smiling brightly at him. Hitoshi was not the same, pointing his pointer and middle finger at his eyes before thrusting them in Present Mic's direction. The English teacher shriveled only slightly, rubbing the back of his neck and glancing away. Shota weaved in behind him, sliding around his friend and giving him a look. He raised a brow at Hitoshi's glower, but the purple-haired teen was apparently feeling merciful and only shrugged. If Shota found out the windows had been at risk, none of them would ever see Hizashi's face within a ten mile radius of this house again.
"Furniture will be delivered this evening, but they'll carry that to the respective rooms." Shota noted, tossing down the trash bag of clothes he'd toted from the back of Nemuri's van. None of them knew why she had a mom van, but she did. Subtlety, maybe? Atlantis brightened, receiving his husband's hand in his as the tired man moseyed his way over. Shota gave him a smile, glancing out the window. "They're putting those walls up fast."
"Yeah. Some dude has the ability to harden concrete and stuff in a snap so they're able to keep going without having to wait for anything to dry." Hitoshi drawled. Atlantis' mouth formed a curious O, his eyes turning to peer outside at all the workers. They were diligent. Money was very, very important here. Apparently important enough that they'd even work in this heat to put in a glass roof. Glass that was one way! From the top, it would be a reflective sheen! Atlantis could hardly wrap his mind around the concept. You can see out one side but not the other? How?
Aizawa nodded and hummed, glancing down at Atlantis and trying not to feel too giddy as his tattoos hummed at the proximity. Hizashi would never shut up if he dared to show emotion in front of him. It's just... a house. They had a house. He and his husband had just gotten a house together, and it was theirs and they were going to live with one another in it. It was completely insane. He never in his entire life thought he'd end up here in a situation like this. Married with a (kind of?) kid, in a massive home with a massive pool.
They all found themselves gravitating out into the front lawn to get some fresh air and truly take in the home. That, and it was easier to get Hizashi to go away now that they were right out here. Midnight helped too, dragging the blonde into her van in a headlock. It looked like an abduction, but Aizawa was glad to see him gone. It was nice to just stand here and look at the house that they had free reign over. Atlantis could decorate it however he wanted. He'd already helped pick out all the furniture, in absolute awe as he scrolled through the different catalogues. Hitoshi had lightly advised him on color choices to prevent total disaster. Though, as long as Atlantis was happy, Shota would gladly live in a home full of color-vomit.
The house was gorgeous, and the massive driveway was telling Shota it would be criminal not to get a car. Besides, he was going to need to teach Hitoshi eventually, and maybe Atlantis if he could ever process the complexity of driving laws, street names, and such of that like. He'd get there eventually. The lawn had been perfectly cut before they got here, the bushes already manicured to perfection. It was a family home. They were a family living in a family home now. Him, Shota Aizawa.
Shota put an arm around his husband, pulling him close as excited warmth mingled through their shared bond. Atlantis was just as happy as he was. Fuck, Shota needed to call his dad. They hardly talked anymore. It's not that they didn't get along. They just... were both like that. Shota was bad at texting first and so was he. He wasn't going to believe a word out of his mouth. Married, with a big, nice house with a massive pool and a kid? Even Shota didn't believe it and he's right here.
"I can't believe it belongs to us." Atlantis fawned, reaching out to squeeze Hitoshi's shoulder. The boy was suspiciously quiet, staring up at the home with distant and misty eyes. It was easy to forget he'd been stuck in foster care up until just recently. With the nature of his quote-on-quote "quirk", he wasn't liked in the system. Aizawa hated thinking about what the kid must've gone through. The teen didn't talk about it, but he'd briefly mentioned how disliked he was. "Now we can get those cat things from the shelter you talk about so much!"
Hitoshi snorted, covering it with a cough expertly. Aizawa smiled, opening his mouth to fondly confirm and perhaps coo over his husband now that Hizashi wasn't here to film him. He didn't get the chance before his phone was blaring so loudly it caused them all to jump just a little. The underground hero immediately clicked his tongue in annoyance, patting at his pockets until he found the irritating device. He was wearing khaki shorts. Him, in khaki. God, he'd turned urban. He was even wearing a Hawaiian shirt with it, and closed-toe sandals, and his hair was in a bun. He wasn't sure what he'd become, but it was horrifying and he wasn't the slightest bit mad about it.
The number was unknown. His eye twitched as he pressed answer, bringing it up to his ear impatiently. He was trying to enjoy some time with his perfect husband and their feral... whatever Hitoshi was. Not a son, not a brother, not even quite a cousin. Like, he and Atlantis were definitely cousins, but the dynamic was too nurturing in a way. Atlantis had taken on the role of caretaker far too fast, and Hitoshi soaked it up like a sponge. Whatever it was, it worked for them. They all slotted together like puzzle pieces, and Aizawa was living in total bliss.
"Shota Aizawa speaking." Aizawa's voice drawled. He made a face as Atlantis coughed and turned away, shoulders shaking a little with laughter at his tone. He rolled his eyes at his husband in a good-natured sort of way, ignoring to look Hitoshi was giving him, as well as the boy's wiggling eyebrows.
"Mr. Aizawa!" Kaminari Denki's voice was not one he wanted to hear over the weekend if he was being entirely honest. In fact, he'd prefer not to hear from any of his students on his day off. He got so little time with Atlantis nowadays. He'd rather it be uninterrupted. Especially today, since they'd just gotten their first home together and that was special. "Thank goodness you answered, Mr. Aizawa. It's serious!"
Kaminari sounded incredibly panicked, so Shota's irritation sobered slightly. His entire class had been given his number after the USJ incident, but they were instructed to only ever use it in extreme circumstances. So far none of them had. Whether it was because they were still terrified of him or because nothing had come up, Shota really could not care less. He sighed. Denki Kaminari 1-A's main class-clown, and he was a bit of an idiot. He very much needed ADHD medication that he wasn't getting. He needed to remember to bring that up next parent-teacher torture.
"It better be. I told you to only ever use this number for emergencies." Aizawa scolded mildly. Atlantis perked up a little, seeming a bit concerned now. Hitoshi watched curiously. The pair of them didn't look super alike coloration wise, but they both made some of the same expressions. Perhaps that's why he'd taken to Shinso so fast. Or maybe it's because he was tired just like Aizawa was, so they understood each other.
"It is! I promise it is!" Kaminari's voice was a bit hushed and extremely urgent. Aizawa pressed his lips together as the electric blonde took a deep breath. "Do you have a twin?"
Aizawa opened his mouth for a moment before he closed it again, brows furrowing. What about this was an emergency? Was there something he was missing here? Atlantis could feel his bewilderment and was definitely laughing at him right now. He was doing a great job of hiding his smile behind his hand, but Shota still coined him from a mile away and flicked him in the forehead in retaliation. His husband made an offended noise that told Shota he was definitely getting chucked in the pool later. That, or Shinso would enchant him to make him walk into it of his own accord. The pair of them loved to gang up on him, and he was no match.
"No, Kaminari. I do not have a twin." Shota said in a very apathetic tone, putting emphasis in his words that send Atlantis into a spiel of laughter. Aizawa couldn't stop himself from cracking a smile too as his husband grabbed his arm, apparently amused by even something as simple as this. Hitoshi raised a brow, also grinning at him. The words out of context were pretty funny, Shota guessed. Well, even in context they were ridiculous. Sometimes he really didn't understand Kaminari.
"This is bad. This is really bad, Mr. Aizawa!" Kaminari exclaimed loud enough that even Atlantis heard it. Aizawa grabbed his husband's face with his free hand, squishing his cheeks which were red from all the smiling. "So I just got a new next door neighbor, right? And there's this one guy in like, dad shorts and a really ugly shirt that looks just like you! I even saw his eyes glowing like yours earlier, Mr. Aizawa! I think you have a clone! He keeps smiling really creepily and he's grabbing this one guy's face! I think he's trying to suffocate him, Mr. Aizawa! They're also building walls around their pool, and everyone knows only psychopaths do that!"
Aizawa froze. Absolutely went stock still, lips parting in surprise. Atlantis perked up at the wash of horror that seemed to go through his husband, pulling his face out of his grasp and rubbing at his sore cheeks. Hitoshi and his cousin shared a look, the pair of them shrugging and honestly not knowing what to say as Shota gawked like a fish out of water for a solid five seconds. If only they knew that this was the worst case scenario. Of all the things to happen, of course it would be this.
Things had been going well. Extremely well, in fact. Beautiful house, amazing pool, lots of room, new furniture coming in. Perfect yard, perfect husband, perfect... whatever Hitoshi was. They were going to get cats and pretty up the house. And then clutter it up so it felt lived in. They'd spend holidays here, and birthdays, and weekends. Eat dinner together and have friends over for game nights Aizawa would pretend not to enjoy. They'd both sit in the living room to intimate whoever Hitoshi brought home. Pretend to be disgruntled when he asked to have people over when really they were overjoyed.
Shota turned to the left, his dark eyes almost immediately finding the golden-yellow ones peering out at him from around the entryway corner of the house next door. Kaminari let out a scream of terror that echoed loudly through the phone. And honestly, Aizawa wanted to give one too.
