Chapter 2: Year 2012

Elise, Tony, and Pepper ate their breakfast, chatting and laughing at the same time. Pepper wiped her lips using her white handkerchief and stood up. "I'd really like to stay but I might run late," Pepper paused looking at her daughter and boyfriend. She frowned but smiled afterwards, "But, I promise I'll come home early today," she added. Elise smiled and nodded, understanding her adoptive mother's situation. Tony leaned and gave Pepper a quick kiss on the lips, while Elise hugged her mother by the waist. Pepper smiled, waved goodbye, and left the luxurious kitchen. Tony and Elise finished as soon as Pepper had entered the car. While Tony helped Elise clean the kitchen, both were engaged in a conversation.

"We need a stabilizing agent or deterrent for the prototype of the arc reactor that we're going to be planting in, because if we don't, the probability of an electromagnetic wave outburst of the arc is high and can get out of control and we won't know what might happen," Tony said voicing out his plan for the prototype of the arc reactor of Stark tower that is to be attached in two months (or less) time. Elise hummed in response and thought of what his father had said.

"I'd say Iridium is what we need, but, I'm going to need to see the blueprints first," as soon as she said that, the now clean bar counter glowed a blue light and an image of the arc reactor appeared with its parts and functions. Elise wiped her hands on her apron and studied the image. She looked closely and hummed nodding her head.

"I found the problem. I suggest that you change and remove the copper casing, you use Titanium alloy as a substitute like in your suit, and then I can help you with stabilizing the waves of the arc. The copper casing might break and it could release the waves and possibly affect what's around it. Then, we can test it out and if it works, it can be the main power source of Stark Tower and we can build the permanent arc reactor afterwards," she finished and saved the draft.

"JARVIS did you list that down?" Tony asked and the AI responded immediately.

"Yes, sir," JARVIS said politely in his British accent. After cleaning, the two Starks went to the living room to take a few minutes of rest before going to work. As they were watching the news, Elise's phone rang and saw that the caller ID was Dave, a fellow friend of hers. She picked it up and answered.

"Hi Dave."

"Hi Elise, I'm so sorry to call you this early but I need a favor," Dave said quickly.

"Oh sure, anything for a friend," Elise said.

"Yeah... thing is, I'm in New York right now with Samantha, a friend of mine, and her son Miles and Alvin, Simon, and Theodore. I need to go to a very important meeting today and nobody can watch over the kids... and I was hoping you could babysit them for the day," he explained. Elise smiled but furrowed her eyebrows.

"But how did you know I'm in New York?" She asked confused. The father-daughter duo had made their trip to NYC out of public eyes for relaxation purposes. It had been just a few weeks prior to the Ivan Vanko and Hammer drone incident that the two didn’t want any type of media following their tails.

"The media, it's all over the news really," Dave answered. "So... umm, I can't really trust this four kids after what happened last year in Miami and New Orleans, what do you say?"

"Yeah, sure! You can drive them here and pick them up at the end of the day," Elise answered, excited to once again see the three little singing chipmunks. Dave said a quick goodbye and the call ended.

"Who was that?" Tony asked while drinking a glass of scotch.

"It was Dave, he asked if I can babysit Alvin, Simon, Theodore and his friend's son Miles," she explained. Tony's eyes seemed to glimmer hearing the three singing chipmunk's names.

"What did you say?" Tony asked excitement in his voice.

"I said yes," and at that moment, JARVIS was heard, informing the two of Dave’s arrival. Tony and Elise went to the elevator and straight to the tower's lobby. As the elevator doors opened, the two Starks walked out side by side with their head held high –even if Tony was still wearing his pajamas. The two greeted  employees and interns, as the workers greeted back in respect, now familiar with the tendency of the two Starks to go down to labs or offices during ungodly hours requesting for materials or equipments. Sometimes, they go down office and lab floors in the dirtiest pair of sweats and shirts after a long night in their labs, asking if anyone had any requests for upgrades or just new updates on tech they can work on. And contrary to popular belief, the father-daughter duo were nice and polite to elders, sometimes casually throwing a party just for the sake of relaxation. Everyone in the Tower took a liking to Elise Stark, admiring her ability to keep up with their work at the fresh age of seventeen, and sometimes let theirs jaws fall when they catch her solving unquantifiable amounts of random formula on the Data room, or taking over whenever Mister Stark or Miss Potts were not available. Many things had changed in Stark Industries/Stark International for the past few months and the employees couldn't be happier. Their most memorable experience with the Starks, admittedly was on Miss Potts' birthday bash just a few weeks ago. The two had set up an incredibly ridiculous plan of making Miss Potts run around the Tower, fetching Post-it notes from the two, and wound up on the 'Party Deck' as many had called it. Employees and interns have been invited, as well as close friends of the Starks. It had been an enjoyable few months for the New York branch.

Dave wore a grey suit while Alvin, Simon, and Theodore wore their sweatshirts and a boy with brown scruffy hair and eyes who wore a black shirt and denim jeans -who they assumed was Miles- all were seated at new plush leather couch.

"Elise! Tony!" The three chipmunks exclaimed. They ran and jumped on Elise and Tony making the two Starks stumble.

"Good to see you boys," Elise greeted.

"Nice to see you again… Red Riding Hood!" Tony smirked at Alvin.

"It's Alvin!" Alvin replied glaring at Tony and crossing his arms over his chest. Tony laughed and Dave walked up to them.

"Hey Tony! Elise thanks for babysitting these four. Oh, and by the way this is Miles, my girlfriend's son," he introduced.

"Wait, I thought you said 'friend of mine'?" Elise smirked as he saw Dave laugh nervously.

"Yeah... Samantha's my girlfriend," he turned to the three chipmunks and teenager, making a face that screamed authority, "Don't cause Mr. Stark and Elise problems you four, if you do, you're grounded."

"When are we not grounded?" Alvin said rolling his eyes. They said their goodbyes. Elise and Tony with the three chipmunks and Miles went to the elevator and pressed the buttons to the living room. Alvin was cuddled up in Elise’s arms with Theodore while Simon was sitting on Tony's shoulder while engaged in a conversation. On the other hand, Miles was staring at Elise. Elise noticed his stare and she looked his way and smiled.

"Hi, you must be Miles, my name's Elizabeth but call me Elise, it's nice to meet you," she smiled. Miles smiled back nervously at the beautiful girl in front of him. Alvin noticed and smirked.

"Ooh... Miles, are you liking Elise already?" Alvin teased and Miles turned crimson while Elise laughed. Tony snickered and said, “Yeah, we’ll be having none of that.”

"Oh shut up Red Riding Hood..." Miles said emphasizing the nickname from earlier. Alvin screamed and pounced on Tony pressing his two little hands on his cheeks hard.

"This is your entire fault! It was one time people! One time!" Alvin yelled throwing his arms in the air, waving them in annoyance. Tony coughed out a laugh, remembering the day he saw Alvin wear a red hoodie that resembled Little Red Riding Hood's hood. Elise laughed along with Miles while Simon and Theo held theirs back.

"Nice work Miles! You just pissed the living crap out of Riding Hood," Tony said and Alvin glared at Tony. Alvin jumped into Elise's arms, while Theo leaped into Miles, trying to give Alvin space, or rather, afraid to look at his brother. The elevator doors dinged and they walked to the living room. Tony passed Simon to Elise and looked at them apologetically.

"I can't stay long, I'm heading in the lab to finish up and do some repairs on the suit and the blueprints for the reactor, sorry guys, but I am coming up here for lunch and if you need me I'm in the lab," he said while waving and pressing the button towards the lab. The elevator doors closed and the chipmunks -except Alvin- waved. They went to the living room and sat down on the couch. They started chatting on random things and about music, which Elise enjoyed most.

"Hey, uhm, how did you and Dave meet?" Miles asked.

"Yeah! Now that you said it, you didn’t really tell us how the two of you met," Simon exclaimed.

"Agreed," Theo agrees with him, staring up at her blue doe eyes.

"Yeah, mind telling us? “Alvin asked looking at her, now less angry. Elise smiled remembering the day he met Dave and how their friendship grew. She lay back in her seat and looked at the three chipmunks and one teenage boy.

"Dad, Pepper, and I were in L.A. back then for vacation year 2005 and I was 11, I think. It was May and mom decided to take me shopping while dad was in a conference. Anyways, when we got home, we went to our neighbors to say hi and Dave was one of them. The next day came and mom and dad had to leave the house which means leaving me alone. Since dad and Dave got along pretty well, mom thought it was best if Dave watched and babysat me. That routine went on with Dave as my babysitter for three months and we became best friends. Eventually, we had to leave but Dave and I kept in touch and I am one of the people who got  to take care of you three rascals when you were little. And that ends the story of how Dave and I met and became friends up to this day," she said crossing her arms over her chest, smiling.

"Oh wow... how... boring," Alvin remarked yawning.

"I thought it was quite nice," Theodore stated.

"It wasn't a very exciting story. I was a kid and Dave was my babysitter and now, I'm 17 and I'm your babysitter," Elise said.

Elise’s Point of View

I was very thrilled to see my friends again and at the same time meet someone new. Alvin was as sarcastic as ever, Simon was still the genius chipmunk I knew, and Theodore on the other hand was still cute and adorable. As I told them of how Dave and I met, I looked over at Miles and smiled at him.

"So Miles, tell me about you!" I say encouraging him to speak. Miles has been awfully quiet since he got here. If he was just shy or still getting used to the technology, I didn’t know. I looked at him expectantly and he scratched the back of his head.

"Okay, uhm, you already know my name, and my mom is Samantha. My father left me when I was five so I don’t really know who he is. Uhh, I play instruments and there's not much to tell really," he stuttered awkwardly. My eyes twinkle at what he said.

"What instruments do you play?" I ask, interested.

“I play guitar. I play a lot of strings actually, but I’m a bit experienced with the piano too," he answered.

"How 'bout you? I mean you’re famous and all, but I feel like it would be different coming from you," Miles asks.

"Well, my name's Elizabeth 'Elise' Anthony Stark, I'm 17 years old, I was born in Italy. I don't know who my biological mother is but my adoptive mom is Pepper and my dad is Tony Stark. I already graduated college at the age of fourteen, beating my dad so that’s also a victory.  I graduated again last year for finishing the course for Astronomy, mainly focusing in Thermonuclear Astrophysics truth be told, Political Science, Mathematics Major, and Medicine, earning my M.D. and PhDs in the process. My hobby is cooking, reading, and so on," I recited counting on my fingers, with a cocky smirk on my face, a smirk resembling much of my father's. I looked at Miles to see him looking at me incredulously, his mouth slightly ajar. I giggle at his reaction. “How’s that for different?” I ask jokingly.

Miles laughs and shakes his head, “Yep, not that much. I feel like you memorized the whole shebang that’s written on Wiki about you.”

I laugh too, but playfully make an offended face, “I’m not as egotistical as my father, you know.” Alvin and Simon coughed beside me, muttering things along the lines of “Yeah right” or “So false”. I glare slightly at them.

“So what do you guys want to do?" I ask, while letting myself sink into the soft and large pillows of the sofa.

"Chess?" Simon suggested.

“Nah, that’s too boring, even for me,” I answer and smirk. “Besides, I can beat all of you in seconds.”

"The TV, then?" Miles asks. I think for a minute and shake my head. “Still too boring,” I say.

"Cake! Cake! Cake!" Theo said throwing his hands in the air. I make a sad face at Theodore. “Sorry baby, dad and I just ate and I’m still full. But I think we do have leftover tiramisu cake in the fridge,” I say. Theo’s face lights up and I stand up to go to the kitchen and get the tray with leftover tiramisu, two plates, and four forks. When I got back, I sat back down on my place on the sofa, and let them eat up the leftover tiramisu from last night.

"Okay! I have an idea," Alvin exclaims. He breathed in air and exhaled. He closed his eyes but opened them again as if remembering something.

"Does anyone have a guitar?"

I laughed at him and the others did too.

"Oh boy... This is going to be a long year..."
