Chapter 14: Call Me Bruce
Elise's PoV
Captain Spangles entered the room, furious. I can literally see the steam blowing off his nose and ears. I casted an illusion spell around Bruce, so we can't disturb his work. It was a simple spell that... 'he-who-shall-not-be-named' taught me. I made sure to make the illusion would last long.
"What do you think you're doing?" Cap asked, jamming a finger at me. I rolled my eyes. Kill-Joy.
"It's called 'fun', you should try it," I shot back, removing my earpiece and turning it off. I was very much annoyed that he interrupted my fun. I was getting to the good stuff with the other agents.
"Exploiting the personal background of every agent on this carrier is not called 'fun'. It's called 'invading privacy'," he said, crossing his arms on his chest. Boy, he needs work on his comebacks.
"You call it that, I call it 'fun'." I said, while exiting the Sound System of the carrier. Gosh, there was still so many agents on my list.
"You should learn to respect people's privacy," he scolded.
"Yeah, and you should learn to back off," I shot back, raising my brow and placing a hand on my hip. We had an intense staring contest, but he looked away first. Yay! I win! You can never defeat Elise Stark.
I smirked up at him. Just before he can say anything, both him and I was called by Coulson to go to the bridge.
"This is not over," he said, squinting his eyes at me, then walking away. I rolled my eyes. It's official, he's my least favourite Avenger. As the steel doors closed, I stuck my tongue out. What? I am a five year old.
I took my backpack, and swung it over my shoulders. Removing the illusion from Bruce, along with the bubble that I put up, I walked up to him. I tugged on his pants, and he looked down at me, startled.
"Coulson called me to go to the bridge. I thought I'd let you know," I uttered, looking up at his mud brown eyes. He nodded his head, slightly, and put his coffee mug at the table.
"Do you want me to take you there?" He asked, almost in a whisper. I nodded my head, and he took my hand. While we made our way to the bridge, my mind started to wander on to what happened earlier between Bruce and I.
It was a surprise how we got along so well.

As Natasha left the room, I looked at the lab where we were supposed to work at. There were lots of viewscreens, along with computers and lab equipments. There was a window, where you can see the clouds outside and the bright blue sky. Their lab was nice, but the one back in the tower was better.
"Okay, let's get started," Bruce said. I let go of his hands, and found myself a workspace near the windows. I placed my backpack on the floor, and took out the container that Dad packed for me. Climbing up on a spinny chair. I kicked my feet and started spinning quickly.
"Wheee!" I flail my arms, and after a few more spins, I finally sat down, and opened the container. That was fun!
I was about to pick a blueberry, when I remembered something. Looking up, I can see Bruce staring at me. I jumped down on the spinny chair, carrying the container with me. He followed my every movement, curious. It wouldn't be fair if I ate all of this, and wouldn't share. That would be cruel. Plus, it is the polite thing to do. And I think I shouldn't avoid Mr. Bruce, not that I'm avoiding him.
"Do you want some?" I asked politely.
"Oh, uhm, yes, please," he said, extending his hand out. He took a few strawberries and blueberries.
"Thank you," he said, smiling, his voice filled with sentiment and gratitude.
"No problem, Mr. Bruce," I smiled at him. He gave a small smile, and said, "Call me Bruce."
"Call me Elise," I grinned.
We started on roughing out a tracking algorithm using cluster recognition. We did it separately though. Fury was kind enough to install a coffee machine, but I needed chocolate drinks. Luckily, Nat passed us by and asked if we needed something.
"Yeah, I want a chocolate drink," I piped up, while my hands tapped away on the screen, trying match the level of gamma rays the Tesseract emitted, and I was failing at it. Man, the gamma rays where so low, that it was hard to find the level of it.
I was so engrossed with my work, that I didn't hear Bruce call my name.
"Elise!" I jumped on the stool that I stood on, and almost fell to the floor, but Nat was fast enough to catch me.
"Honey, you need to be more careful," she scolded, and set me on the floor. I smiled sheepishly at her.
"Sorry, I was caught up with work," I said. She smiled at me, playfully rolling her eyes.
"Bruce has your drink, I didn't know what type of chocolate you liked, so I just made my own version of it," she said, while checking me if I got hurt.
"I'm fine, Nat, and thanks for the drink," I said, taking the large mug from Bruce. I took a sip, and tasted it.
"Is it good? If you don't like it-" I cut her off.
"Hmm, dark chocolate, I like it," I smiled up at her. The drink was spontaneous. It was bitter, but had this sweet and chocolate-y aftertaste.
"You need to make more than one mug, this'll be gone in a few minutes," I looked up at her, grinning. She grinned back at me, and ruffled my hair.
"Sure thing," she said, then walked out. Probably to make my drink.
Nat was so much fun to be with. When she went undercover as an intern for Mom, she and I talked a lot and got along pretty well. Then, she had to go, but we kept in touch, and she would often visit me. A fun fact about Natasha, she is spontaneous. You won't know what she's like, if you don't talk to her.
"You two seem pretty close," Bruce quipped. I smiled, happiness filling my heart.
"Yeah. She's really awesome, like a second mom after my Mommy Pepper," I said. Ohh... Note: Nat and Mommy Pepper are both redheads.
"I see..." He said, moving next to me, swiping the screen, transferring the data to me. I climbed back up the stool.
"I was close on matching the Tesseract's gamma radiation to the scepter, but I was a number wrong. I need you to check the ratings and recognition, along with the algorithm, just to make sure," he said, giving me the stats and datas. I studied it, and my eyes immediately spotted faults.
"Okay, I got it from here, thank you," I say, my hands immediately fixing all the faults. My heart thrummed silently, and I was calm.
For the first time in a few months, I felt relaxed, and calm. It may be because that I'm a five year old, but I didn't care. I hummed a little tune, from my favourite Disney movie, 'Beauty and the Beast' entitled 'Be Our Guest'.
"Be our guest, be our guest..." I sang quietly, finishing the algorithm and swiped it back to Bruce. I looked at him, while still humming the song. He reviewed it, his eyes getting wider with everything he read.
"Wow," he breathed out. "It's flawless."
I smirk tugged at ny lips. "I know," I say, my inner Stark coming out.
"This is amazing. You did this in less than two minutes?" He asked, looking at me, amazed. I smile shyly, and nod my head. He smiled.
"I think you deserve a rest, good job," Bruce said, patting my head.
"Thank you!" I smile in relief. I climbed down my stool, and sat down on the spinny chair with my bag and drink. I relaxed.
Taking a huge gulp of my drink, my phone started to ring.
I fished it out of my basketball short's pocket, and answered without looking at the caller ID.
"Hello?"
"Hi baby! How are you doing there?" Dad's voice came through the phone.
"Daddy! I'm fine! Ooh! Wait till you get here! I'm gonna show you the weapon's vault!" I exclaim.
"The weapons' vault? Elise..." Dad said in a warning tone. Oops.
"Busted."
