Chapter 4
I came back down the stairs at a much slower place. Joseph met me at the front door. "I hope you get to feeling better soon." He brushed my hair back from my face. "I have to head to work, but I wanted to see you again before I left." He hugged me, and with a wave he was gone.
I was just getting ready to head back into the living room, when my cell phone started ringing. "No way it can't be." The screen flashed the name Kelsey on it. I answered the phone, "Hey, this is Laya."
"Laya, do you want to hang out at the coffee shop? I'll pick you up." Sure enough, the voice of Kelsey Sowards came through the line.
"Sure, see you soon." I told my family and Jamie that I was going to go out with Kelsey. Jamie turned her head and stood up, leaving not just the room, but also the house. "What?!? Why'd Jamie leave?"
Shane gave me a weird look, "You must have been hit harder in the head then we thought, sis. You should know those two don't get along anymore. Haven't for over a year now."
Before I could say anything else, Uncle John turned, "Kelsey's here. You go have fun, you've got your work interview at 2 PM. Don't forget. Singers don't usually like to wait."
Moriah giggled. "You should know, Uncle." My family got in a playful wrestling match.
Kelsey was sitting outside in her car, I grinned at her. "Hey Kels. How are you?" I was begininng to think it was better to not overact how everything was so different.
"Great Laya." We drove to the coffee shop, and entered through the doors. I noticed Kelsey's face grow pink. "Will you order, Laya?" She whispered, her eyes glancing at the guy behind the counter.
Of course... it was Caleb Grimm. Though I admit he was a bit more goofy than the Caleb that I'm used to. He had his hat on backwards, and a little to the side.
"Yo Lays. What's happenin'? Can I take ya order?" I cringe. SO not like the Caleb Grimm I know. He lowers his voice to a whisper. "I see Kelsey came along with you? Has she said anything about me?" As I saw the pleading look in his eyes, I can't help but, wonder why in his whispered tone he had perfect grahamer.
"Your grammar, Caleb?"
"Shhh. You know I don't let my boss hear me talk with anything but slang." He stops short, and I turn to find a blushing Kelsey standing behind me. "Can I take... you..Your order, Kelsey?"
I may have my work cut out for me....
