I can care
Mackenzie's POV
After battling the monsters, I was just hurt a bit by my arrow arm...A.K.A my right arm. The whole fighting monsters got me so angry when I saw Stheno, the gorgon who attacked Maria when we were all trapped and cornered.
I actually don't know what happened but Crystal and Maria said I was screaming in anger. Silver glow was emitting from me. The blessing of Artemis and Athena.
I walked back to the Hogwarts castle with a tiny limp barely noticeable to the untrained eye.
"Hey, Mackenzie, why are you limping?" Luna asked passing by me ever so quickly. Dang it. Her platinum blonde hair was the usual waviness and her robes were in the design for Ravenclaw. Technically, she DOESN'T have an untrained eye.
My eyes looked her directly in the eyes. "Oh, nothing. I just sort of fell on my way back to Hogwarts."
Luna raised an eyebrow. "You know, as a daughter of Iris, I can contact anyone on my own accord, right?" Oh right, that little fun factor that we came across while she visited Camp Half-Blood on my way to becoming a hunter. "Would you want me to patch you up?"
I shook my head no and realized it was three in the morning. A wave of shock hit me that Luna was awake in her Ravenclaw Pajamas and a rainbow t-shirt. "Wait, why are you awake?" I looked down at her feet and saw a pair of white sneakers she was wearing.
"I wear shoes when I go to sleep, actually," she said looking down on her shoes. "I tend to sleepwalk so they come in handy. Being away from camp triggers the case of the sleepwalk less often. It's as if my ADHD was reacting even in my sleep. I remember once at camp, they tied my waist down to the bed tightly so I couldn't sleepwalk into the hands of the harpies. That would've been a messy thing to clean up." I laughed at her humor.
Call me crazy, but Athena kids can laugh as much as they want to. We're not stuck up kids who take everything seriously. That job falls on Annabeth because she has to deal with her super hyperactive boyfriend. Except of course after Tartarus where they both died in the inside.
Luna looked at me strangely as my face turned into a solemn look. "Is everything alright, Mackenzie?"
I shook my head. "I'm just worried for Annabeth and Percy. They were like the older siblings I never had when I came to camp with the hunters. I was different from other hunters actually. I am part of the Lady's hunt but I'm like the secret soldier that is independent."
Luna nodded her head and frowned. Quite unusual, if you ask me. "Percy and Annabeth, are they alright?"
I shrugged. "I don't really know. They need some time off together since Annabeth was still pretty shaken up by Percy's abilities. I think she might be considering a break up."
Luna gasped. "But they were the inseparable couple."
I looked over to her. "Luna, after the two wars, anything can happen. My curse..." I trailed off not wanting to remember what was bestowed on me. I never really talked to anyone about it so...I guess this could be the first. "Luna, I have a secret to tell you and you have to promise not to spread it."
She looked really scary when she's serious. "Of course, anything."
My breath hitched as I told her. "I survived a killing curse against Voldemort. The hat spoke about my curse. About what has been bestowed upon me. The killing curse really changed me a lot towards being warm and sappy to being cold and barely shows emotions. That's why I became an independent hunter. I like to work alone recruiting. The killing curse not only changed me to mature but also cursed me to never love. Like a hunter. I mean, I do despise boys since I was young. In fact I really didn't like the idea of 'boyfriends', in which I am grateful if the curse meant it in that way only." I looked down. "But most boys who earn my respect, I treat them as a brother."
Luna reached for my chin and raised it up. With a teary smile, she spoke. "It's okay, Mackenzie. You'll find someway to go around the curse. And thank you for telling me. Despite that you are a new student here and at home, we'll love you even if you have some kind of stupid curse." She hugged me and walked me to the Gryffindor entrance. "When you need a friend to talk to, I'll be there." She turned and walked to her own House.
That went pretty well.
I entered the Gryffindor Common Room to find Harry, Ron, Hermione, and Ginny curled up by the fireplace. It seems they have fallen asleep while talking this early.
The fire in the fireplace was dying, to say the least. Soon they'd all be freezing before breakfast. No one would want to see their heroes frozen to death.
I walked up to my room and brought out blankets from my trunk. I may have picked them up from Camp Half-Blood. Please note, may.
If you're wondering, my trunk is magically infused with super space. Just think of Leo's Toolbelt. I can pull out anything I need from here. In example, blankets and white pillows.
And if anyone who looks at it will see a bunch of normal clothes, pictures, normal stuff. Unless I myself decide to allow the one who look at it to see through the thick layer of mist. It's actually bigger than you know. Like a magical tent.
My feet closed the Girl's Dormitories quietly because my hands were full at the moment.
I made my way carefully down the stairs trying to balance the four red and yellow blankets in my arms. As i neared them, I set the blankets on the couch and approached the fireplace.
My curse doesn't hinder my capability to care and show concern to others.
Grabbing some firewood by the side, I threw them to the fire.
"I'm not a cold hearted person," I said to myself. My voice echoing in the common room. I was sure no one heard. "I can care for someone like family. Loyal to whom I must care for no matter how they treat me."
The wind from an open window flew past my face, providing me with a comforting chill.
I looked down at the slightly moving bodies of the four. "They must be freezing." Despite that I loved the chills the freezing breeze gave me, I closed the window hurriedly.
"'Mione," Ron mumbled through his snores. His hand suddenly draped over Harry and snuggled closer to him. It took all my willpower not to laugh when Harry hugged Ron's arm in response.
"Ginny," Harry mumbled hugging Ron's arm tighter.
I may not be laughing, but I snapped a picture using a camera Arianne gave me for memorable moments like this for emergencies.
I then thought. Even if I haven't spent much time with Elyza, she's rubbing off on me.
Ginny's figure relaxed as I casted a fire spell to make it warmer. Hermione was still shivering.
"You poor lads!" I said doing my best expression of Mrs. Weasley. Met her on my way to Hogwarts brushing her children's clothes of dust.
I carefully threw the blankets over them and laid the pillows under their heads. One blanket and one pillow each. After placing some bloody pillows, I may have held each pillow under my right arm, under their heads, I retired to my own bed. Sadly, I couldn't sleep. Let's just hope the four friends don't mind the blood.
