Chapter 14
*Restaurant*
"And we change anything we want. Two thousands a day..." Donald starts to say as he held a clipboard, writing notes down.
"ten thousand..." he continued.
"most people will pay it" Donald stated.
"And then there's the merchandise...which I personally..." he said before John interrupted him.
"Donald, Donald. This park was not built to cater only for the super rich. Everyone in the world has the right to enjoy these animals" he said to him with a smile on his face.
"Sure. They will" Donald replied, looking like he's agreeing with the man.
"I mean, we'll have a coupon day or something" he said as the waiters were giving them their meals.
Laughing
The others didn't found it funny, "Gee, the lack of humanity before nature that being displayed here, uh, staggers me" Ian said our nowhere
"Thank you Dr.Malcom..." Donald begin to say, annoyed.
"but I think things are a little bit different than both you and I feared" he stated, trying to cut off this man.
"Yeah, I know. They're, uh, alot worse" Ian retorted, leaning against his chain.
"Now, wait a second now. We haven't ever seen the park yet..." Donald said to Malcom, trying to persuade him.
"There's no reason..." he said before someone interrupted him.
"Donald..."
"...let him talk" John said, breaking up this argument.
"There's no reason to hear every view point. I really do" he tells him, allowing the man to continue.
"If I may, if I may. Uh, I'll tell you the problem with the scientific power that you're, that you're using here. It didn't require any discipline to attain it. You know, you read what others had done, and you, and you took the next step. You didn't earn the knowledge for yourselves, so you don't take any responsibility... for it. You stood on the shoulders of geniuses, uh, to accomplish something as fast as you could, and before you even knew it, you had, you've patented it, and packaged it, and slapped it on a plastic lunch box, and now" said Ian.
Bang!
Banged his fists against the table, "You're selling it, you wanna sell it. Well?" Ian asked.
"It's hardly appropriate to start hurtling accusations" Donald said, trying to cut this man off once again.
"I don't think you're giving us our due credit" John argued.
"Our scientists have done things which nobody has ever done before" he stated in defends.
"Yeah, yeah, but your scientists were so preoccupied over whatever or not they could, they didn't stop to think they should" Ian tells him.
"Condos. Condos are on the verge of extinction" said John.
"No..." Ian tries to say before John cuts him off.
"No, no! If I was to create a flack of condos on this island, you wouldn't have anything to say!" he fired back, not seeing Ian point.
"No, listen to me, this isn't some species that was obliterated by deforestation or, uh, the building of a dam. Dinosaurs, uh, had their shot, and nature selected them for extinction" Ian told John.
Groan
"I simply don't understand this kind of luddite attitude, especially from a scientist!" said John, shocked at this man behaviour.
"I mean, how can we standin the light of discovery and not act?" he tells him.
"Oh, what's so great about discovery?" Ian ask back.
"I call the rape of the natural world" he declared, his answer filled with venom.
"Well, the question is, how can you know anything about an extinct eco system? And therefore, how could you ever assume that you can control it?" Ellie questioned.
"I agree with Ellie. I noticed that you have plants in this building, those are poisonous" Heather pointed out.
"You picked them because they look good. But these are aggressive living things that have no idea what century they're in and they will defend themselves. Violently if necessary" Aaron
Expressed opinion
Then John turns to Alan, "Dr Grant. If there's one person here, who can appreciate what I'm trying to do..." he said.
"The world has just changed so radically, and we're all running up to catch up. I don't want to jump to an conclusions but look; dinosaurs and man, two species separated by sixty-five million years of evolution, have just been suddenly thrown back into the mix together. How can we possibly have the slightest idea, what to expect?" said Alan, shrugging his shoulders.
"...."
Sigh
" I don't believe this, I don't believe this... " John said over and over in pure debelief.
"You're mean to come down here and defend me against these characters, and the only one I've got on my side is the blood-sucking lawyer!" he stated, astonished.
"Thank you" Donald replied in an offended tone as Olivia turns to Ian.
"I completely agree with you" she whispered as an waiter came over to John and lean down, whispering in his ear.
"Well..." the man starts to say as he went and stood up from his seat.
"They're here"
Footsteps
"Olivia" Ellie called, stopping the woman in her tracks as the other s were walking away.
"Can you belive that? We knew they were intelligent, but, wow" Ellie began to say as the two women started to follow after the group.
"But I can see there's something else intriguing you?" Ellie teased as Olivia watching Ian, who's ahead of the women.
Making the woman snap out of it and look at Ellie, "What?" Olivia asked in confusion.
"You know who I'm talking about" Ellie tells her, gesturing to Ian with a knowing a smile.
Sigh
"Okay, I admit he's quite charming" Olivia admitted, trying not to blush.
