Chapter Eleven: Intertwined
As soon as the twos lips had linked together, the room went wild. Lillie's drunken state meant it wasn't nearly as meaningful as their previous kiss in the supply room, but that didn't mean that it was any less exciting, fireworks exploding between the two of them.
It wasn't just exciting for Brian and Lillie, considering as soon as they began to pull apart the other three were whooping and cheering, slapping Brian on the back, Roger even lifting Lillie up onto his shoulder as if she was some sort of champion. Normally she'd be scared at the gesture, considering he was far too intoxicated to keep her on his shoulder safely, but it was thrilling, feeling as if she was on top of the world. After he put her down John was straight over to her, ruffling her hair and hitting her arm as he laughed. Meanwhile, Mary and Veronica stayed where they were, exchanging almost a worried glace as they laughed at the chaotic energy the band and Lillie were demonstrating.
It was fun, for a while, until the adrenaline ran out and the five of them all collapsed back down and went back to drinking, Lillie and Brian flopping back onto the sofa, sitting much closer together, Brian daring to have his arm around her shoulder. The small contact seemed to act as a constant reminder for the two of them, the memory of the kiss still running through both of their minds, even after the other three left.
The gathering only lasted another half hour, ending quite anti-climactically as John passed out on the table, leaving Veronica to carry him out into a cab back home. Freddie and Mary left not long after, Roger following them out, leaving Brian and Lillie alone for the first time all night.
"I think we should go too..." Brian spoke quietly. It had been some time since he'd drank and the alcohol had practically worn off, and the same could be said for Lillie, who had now turned from a laughing-drunk to a tired-drunk, her appearance now much more dishevelled, her hair frizzing out of their braids, her glasses perched on top of her head slightly skew-whiff.
Lillie nodded, staggering up onto her feet, refusing Brian's help as she wandered over to the bar to get the keys Mick had left for her to lock up. As if she was perfectly sober, she ran checks around the room, making sure everything was secure before picking up the two guitar cases she had been keeping in the room, nodding over to Brian for him to follow her to the door. As soon as he got up, she moved to stand next to him, following her almost nervously until she shot him a look, before taking hold of his hand, leaning on him ever so slightly as she led him to the exit. Brian truly wanted to believe that she was doing that because she wanted to hold him again, but part of him thought it was simply because she was drunk. That would have been plausible, considering she was staggering slightly, and Brian soon found himself not only holding her hand but helping to keep her upright.
As soon as they were outside, Brian took the keys from her shaking hand, locking the pub up for her, slipping the keys into his pocket for safe keeping, before taking the guitar cases off of her. At the gesture, Lillie shot him a grin, leaning closer to him to rest her head on his shoulder.
"We sharing a cab together?" Lillie asked quietly as they wandered over towards a road. Brian nodded. "Cool, cool, I hate getting cabs alone,"
Whilst Brian and Lillie waited by the road for a taxi to pull up, they were silent the entire time, the silence comfortable as they stood close, Lillie close enough to notice Brian was no longer as carefree as he was moments ago. He seemed nervous again, but that was alright. Brian normally seemed reserved, and it's what she admired in him, though she wasn't going to deny her utter adoration for the passion and desire he'd demonstrated previously. Glancing up at his face, Lillie couldn't help but smile slightly, noting how well-balanced he was in personality, and how she'd never known anyone like it before.
A taxi pulled up, Brian leading her into the backseat, and despite being drunk, she was sobering up enough to be grateful that he was looking out for her.
"Do you want to get dropped off first?" Brian asked as he told the driver his address.
Lillie nodded almost vacantly, biting her lip in thought as she pulled her hand out of his for a moment, stroking her shirt as if looking for a pocket. Her face quickly changed from confusion to slight panic.
"Shit... Shit, my house keys!" Lillie exclaimed, slapping the pockets of her trousers, almost desperately as she looked over to Brian with wide eyes. "Shit! My keys were in my jacket pocket, and..."
Suddenly, the memory of Roger dancing about in her leather jacket appeared in both of their minds, followed by the image of him wandering out of the pub after Freddie and Mary, muttering something about going out to pull, still wearing the jacket. As Brian looked at Lillie, he could tell that she really wanted to laugh if she hadn't have been too preoccupied by the panic.
"Okay, so, Rog has your keys, cant your parents let you in?" Brian asked, and Lillie shot him a look that told him more than words could ever say.
"Not unless I want them to never let me out the house again," she muttered, rolling her eyes. "Fuck sake, I'm going to kill Roger for taking my jacket, that skinny bitch, though I guess it's my fault, I'm so fucking irresponsible,"
"Hey, don't start with that, you're one of the most responsible people I know, and tonight has been so much fun so don't beat yourself up over it, Lee," Brian cut in, taking hold of her hand supportively as the cab began moving. "It's alright, you can stop the night at mine and I'll drop you off home in the morning,"
"I'm never letting Freddie fucking Mercury get me drunk again," she muttered darkly as she squeezed Brian's hand three times sub-consciously. "And as for that bitch John Deacon..."
The cab ride went far quicker than either of them anticipated it to be, and after settling with the driver Brian led Lillie out to his flat, never letting go of her hand, not even as he unlocked the door. As soon as they were through the door, Lillie noted that his flat was just like Roger's; tiny. The band had told her once that despite their albums being successful so far, none of them really had the funds to live in flats any bigger than two rooms, except Lillie was envious of them, because at least they all had their own places, whilst she was still stuck living with her parents.
"You can have my bed, I'll stop out here," Brian told her as he gestured over to the sofa.
Maybe it was the last shred of her drunken confidence, or maybe Lillie was sick of constantly hiding behind her self-consciousness, but as soon as Brian suggested that, she shook her head.
"Bri, this is your flat, if anyone should be on the sofa it should be me," she shrugged, not quite meeting his eye. "Unless we both take the bed,"
"A-are you sure? I don't want to make you uncomfortable," Brian frowned, struggling to hide his shock at her suggestion.
"You could never make me feel uncomfortable," Lillie merely shrugged, smirking at him slightly.
With that, Brian bit his lip, forcing his nerves away as he led her to the bedroom. If he was acting nervous, Lillie didn't notice, especially when he picked out a t-shirt and a pair of pyjama bottoms from his wardrobe, handing them to her. The gesture of him lending her clothes to sleep in made her smile, and she wandered into the bathroom to change, knowing Brian was watching her leave.
Whilst Lillie was in the bathroom, Brian got changed himself, and deciding against what Lillie had suggested, he then took one of the spare pillows and blankets, building himself a makeshift bed on the floor. Just as he was about to lay down, Lillie reappeared in the doorway. He was significantly taller than her, so the shirt was massive on her, like a dress, but she still managed to look nice. She'd taken her hair out of its braids, and she'd taken off her makeup, which was already smudged. As she stood in his bedroom door, looking almost nervous to be stood in front of him, Brian couldn't help but smile, letting out a small sigh as he considered how lovely she looked, and the way she had kissed him before.
"You're staring," she stated bluntly, breaking his train of thought.
"You're beautiful," he said before he could stop himself, smiling wider.
"You don't need to sleep on the floor, you know," she spoke quietly, moving towards the bed and pulling the sheets back and as if she sensed he was about to protest once more, she continued. "I told you, I don't mind, this is your home, not to mention we just snogged in front of the lads, I don't think sharing a bed is going to make me feel uncomfortable now,"
Brian sighed, getting up off the floor and moving onto the bed next to Lillie, turning off the lamp at his side of the bed, shutting the room off into darkness. For a moment, he lay there still, unsure of what to do, until he felt Lillie shifting about next to him, moving slightly closer to his body until they were touching. Carefully, she laid her arm across his chest, resting her hand on his shoulder almost lovingly. Swallowing nervously, Brian plucked up the courage to move his arm to rest on her back, pulling her closer, his other moving to hold her arm, embracing her fully. He felt her breath catch in her throat, and then let out a long sigh, moving closer again to bury her head in his chest.
"Lillie..." Brian muttered quietly. She mumbled a reply tiredly. "Where d you want to end up? I n life?"
"Is this midnight existentialism with Brian May?" she chuckled quietly. "I don't really know where I want to end up, I guess I just want to be happy... and successful, I guess. I'm sick of relying on other people for my wages, I want to be my own person, not another cog in the system. I want to stand out, to make an impact, to make something that matters. I know so many people want that and don't get it, so I know how easy it is to fail at that, but maybe I'll end up being one of the lucky ones... but if I can't get that then I just want to be happy,"
"Who's existential now?" Brian smirked slightly. "But yeah, that sounds good, that sounds like a pretty good life... I hope you get it, you deserve to be successful, I really think you could make it,"
As he spoke, he ran his thumb over her arm, stoking her soft skin gently. His touch gave her goose-bumps, but his words made Lillie frown slightly, shifting her position so she could look at his face, her own expression displaying her disbelief. She felt the fluttering she usually felt in her stomach when she was around Brian, but this time it was almost comforting because instead of longing for him, he was holding her, touching her, embracing her like he truly cared. And he did care by the sounds of it, considering what he was saying. Why else would he ask her such a question, and then express his belief in her?
It was a rare feeling, the feeling of someone believing in her. She was used to just being surrounded by her self-doubt and her insecurities. Her insecurities such as her bad eyesight and oversized glasses, her thick hair, her acne as a teenager, her height, the fact that she'd lived her entire life in the shadow of her siblings. She was a pretty much just one big insecurity, and had been for as long as she could remember. A career in music and therefore in a spotlight often seemed out of reach considering all of that, but when she was performing none of it mattered, all of it seeming to disappear, and the same thing happened when she was around Brian. When she was with Brian, when Brian spoke to her, smiled at her, even the way he looked at her, she seemed to forget about all her struggles with herself. It was as if by magic, as soon as she was with him she seemed to forget all the reservations she held about herself and the world around her. It was an effect all of Queen had on her, but Lillie knew that Brian was truly something special.
It was rare someone believed in her. Her parents rarely showed any belief, even her brother doubted her chance in her desired career. The only person to ever believe in her was John, and considering she rarely saw him, she had gotten used to feeling like no one was particularly on her side. No one really took the time to tell her they believed in her and hoped she'd achieve all her dreams. No one went out of the way to make sure she was comfortable, taking into account how much alcohol she'd consumed and how she wasn't herself. No one went out of their way to tell her she was beautiful, even though she was in just a shirt without makeup. No one had kissed her and held her so kindly and lovingly. No one had been so kind when she was afraid. No one had been so welcoming upon first meeting. No one but Brian May.
Brian made Lillie feel worthwhile. She'd gone through life feeling sub-par, feeling third-best in her parents eyes, especially when it came to her sister. Growing up in the shadow of someone else, someone who was so similar yet so much more impressive than herself, Lillie had truly begun to believe that she wasn't worth much. However, the more time she spent with the boys of Queen, the more time she spent with Brian, she was truly beginning to see her self-worth. As much as she loved the other three, John, Freddie and Roger being true forces of good in her life, especially John who was like a brother to her, she knew that Brian was the one she could count on, the one she was connected to, the one she was hopelessly falling for.
"Brian, I think you're one of the only people who's ever made me like myself," she said before she could stop herself, the last shred of drunken foolishness coming through.
"You should like yourself, Lillie, you're wonderful," Brian spoke softly, stroking her arm again.
"I like you, though," she mumbled, burying her face further into his chest.
"And I like you too," he spoke though a gentle smile, still not quite able to believe the fact he was holding her.
In a moment of bravery, he leant his head down and pushed his lips against her head, kissing her softly. He felt her sigh against his body, squeezing him tighter in a display of solidarity, before she moved slightly, twisting so she could face him better.
"Brian, I want you to kiss me again," she practically whispered.
He obliged, leaning down, meeting his lips against hers. It was soft, warm and gentle, the previous wild passion they'd displayed in the supply closet and before the rest of the band gone, but it was just as perfect, the two of them caught together, with just themselves. The first time had been a moment of mad passion, the second time quick, unexpected and to the soundtrack of Freddie and Roger's dramatic cheers and John's whistles of encouragement, but now it was slow, careful, with no one there to watch the two embrace each other. They were practically in their own little world, their world seeming truly perfect as they could finally be together the way they had wanted for so long secretly, together without the fear of reality.
The two parted, Brian placing more gentle kisses on her cheeks and forehead, Lillie running her hands through his thick curly hair, their bodies staying intertwined with one and other. That was how they fell asleep, perfectly intertwined in a loving hold, nothing else mattering to either of them except for each other. The outside world was something they could worry about in the morning, though it was clear that it was now something that now they had kissed, now they had held each other so close, there was no way they could ever go back to just being friends.

Hey guys!
Sorry there was a bit of a delay for this chapter but I moved into my second year uni house last week and there was no internet so I couldn't post. Anyway, now it's here I hope you enjoyed it!
This is probably one of my favourite chapters I've written, it's just so cute and fluffy, I really love the relationship developing between Brian and Lillie.
If you enjoyed this please leave a vote and a comment, but also remember to check out my other works. I've just posted a new Beatles/George Harrison fic because I'm really into them at the moment. The fic has a similar vibe to this one and I'm really loving writing it at the minute, so please do go and check it out!
Thank you for reading and I should have the next chapter ready soon!
