Example: Swanna Girl and Braviary Man

Now, here is what a Review and a Promo will end up looking like. Notice how similar, yet different these are. Please, use this chapter as a reference as this is how it will be set up with your book information and everything.

I will be using my own book, Swanna Girl and Braviary Man, as an example. Please note, these are my thoughts about my own work, so there may be more mistakes than I'll point out due to the fact that I'm unaware of it, and there are also some things I may nitpick at more than usual. This is how I write reviews though as I don't catch everything, and what I do catch, I try to help the writer grow from it.

Keep in mind, even as a writer, I know I'm not perfect. Everyone has room to improve. These mistakes I've noticed in my own work will be fixed when I have time (which is when I get the trilogy finished).

Public Review

Swanna Girl and Braviary Man by @JunieWeathers

Genre: Action, Drama, Pokéfic, Romance

Chapters Reviewed: 15 Chapters (31 chapters)

Update Schedule: N/A

Years after Team Plasma has threatened Unova, a new threat, Team Miasma, has risen and plans on destroying the entire region. There's only one person who can save the region, at least there was until Nurse Joy's assistant, Sylvia Gray, accidentally found herself walking into the scene. Now, it's up to her and Unova's superhero, Braviary Man to save the day.

Warning: The writer has given me the clear to give spoilers. Read at your own risk.

The first thing that really caught my eye about this book was how the writer chose to incorporate superheroes into a Pokéfic. It was something that has popped up a couple of times in the anime, but I've hardly seen here on Wattpad. I really enjoyed it, especially since—like the anime—the heroes weren't given powers, but relied on their Pokémon. That makes them sound like everyday Trainers, but with the costumes, the hiding, and the flare that Swanna Girl and Braviary Man give, it really ties in nicely.

Swanna Girl is a very interesting character too. Her real name is Sylvia Gray, and at the beginning of the story, she despises superheroes. Or at least, she hates Braviary Man as he's running around Unova, failing to actually put a stop to Team Miasma. She starts out working as this Pokémon nurse assistant, where she wants to follow in the footsteps of her legal guardian, Nurse Joy. It's a very unique concept, and it shows her love for Pokémon right away. She does a lot of different actions to show how much she cared for them too, whether it's putting herself in danger to save an injured Pokémon, or stop everything she's doing to help those in need. This is how she became a superhero as she realized Braviary Man isn't doing what does for the fun of it, but is risking his life to keep everyone safe.

Another interesting character is Rena. At first, I was a bit confused in the prologue on her alleged anger issues she had. It didn't make sense. After all, when she meets Sylvia, and every scene they're together in, she seems pretty nice. Not once does she seem like she's going to blow a fuse or something. That changes the moment she realizes Sylvia has feelings for her brother, and she quickly turns into this irritable woman who seems unreasonable. It made more sense at this point, but I wished there was some way this could've been hinted at a bit better rather than happening all at once.

Speaking of things happening all at once, the romance of this book seemed a bit too sudden. Sylvia mentions how much she hate's Braviary Man, and even when she realized he's doing all he can about the situation going on, she still gets in a few arguments with him, even though she clearly doesn't dislike him anymore, but doesn't like-like him either. Then, out of the blue, the two kiss. Where did that come from? A relationship just doesn't pop out of the blue like that. I mean, sure, Rudi (AKA, Braviary Man) had an apparent crush on her, or at least, was arrogant and carried himself that would make it reasonable that he could've liked Sylvia, but her feelings towards him felt forced and too sudden.

If you're going to add romance to a book like this, it's okay to hint at it before the big scene. You need to get your readers to enjoy the events going on, rather than force them together within threeish chapters.

Other than that, this book is pretty entertaining. I love the fact that Sylvia's Pokémon aren't the only Pokémon that are concentrated on. Rudi's Braviary makes a huge appearance in the book as well. He is a fierce battler and doesn't seem to like Sylvia all that much, probably because of how cold she was towards Rudi at first. It was fun to read scenes between him and Sylvia when this happened.

I also love the Pokémon choices that were used in this book. Sure, Braviary is a pretty common Pokémon to use, and Audino is one I can see being used if it's a Unovan Pokémon Center, but having and Audino as a major Pokémon choice is great. Swanna is hardly seen in Pokéfic as well, so seeing these Pokémon finally be in the spotlight refreshing.

All in all, this book is very good. Of course, there is room for improvement, but it can all be fixed with some serious editing.

*off review note. If a quote would've been used, it would've been before the summary, and right here would be an interview. Comments could range from anywhere from being in the beginning, middle, or end of the review, depending on where I see fit*

Promo

Swanna Girl and Braviary Man by @JunieWeathers

Genre: Action, Drama, Pokéfic, Romance

Current Length: 31 Chapters, Complete

Update Schedule: N/A

Looking for action, a little bit of romance, and something different in the Pokefic genre? Then look no further as this isn't your typical fanfic. Taking place a few years after B2W2, the heroes of Unova have gone missing, leaving Unova a new threat, Team Miasma. But no need to fear, as Braviary Man is there to save the day. It is because of him that everyone feels safe.

Except for Sylvia, who could care less of the guy running around to "save" Unova as he hasn't actually put a stop to the new threat. Instead of concerning herself with the problem, she spends her time helping her legal guardian, Nacrene City's Nurse Joy, around the Pokemon Center. Sylvia is an aspiring Pokemon Nurse; however, that may change the second her path crosses with a particular superhero.

Filled with plot twists, cliffhangers, and interesting events, this story will leave you on the edge of your seat wondering what will happen next to our new beloved heroes of Unova.

~What do readers have to say about this?~

"Like the new cover and the pokémon selection you've given them. Not many fanfics use swannas or audinos" Your_Last_Word

"If I'm correct, then this story has only three chapters left. NOOOOOOOOOO!" TheRisingFlame

Interview

*Please note, for the purpose of it being not being confusing, I'm going to use TorchicGirl as the interview of this piece only. In future interviews, whether it be for reviews or promos, I will always refer to myself as JunieWeathers or JW*

TorchicGirl: What inspired you to write this?

JunieWeathers: There's lots of things that inspired me to really write this story. I think the idea of it formed a few years ago when I was playing Pokémon BW one night while watching Supergirl (multitasking, you know?) and all of a sudden, this idea came into my head: what if I made a story about Unovan Superheroes. I didn't write it right away, until I felt like I had the perfect way to execute it.

Tor: That's pretty neat. Did watching Supergirl give you any inspiration for the characters?

JW: Yes. I was having a hard time coming up for a name for the Rena, but I wanted her to be a strong character, so I named her Rena after Lena Luther.

Tor: Rena is definitely an interesting character. There are a lot of really neat points in this book as well. What was your favorite part of writing this book?

JW: Definitely the complexity of the storyline. I did my best to give the readers a lot of info, but not too much to be overwhelmed.

Tor: You did a good job on that. Is there anything you feel like you could've done differently?

JW: Oh ya! I keep finding plot holes in my books and get called out on them on occasion, but I mean, I just have to keep moving forward. Who knows, maybe I can use those plot holes to expand the book into a trilogy or something (-;

Tor: That is a good idea. Is there anything you'd like to share about your book?

JW: Hi potential readers and fellow Pokéfic writers! If you're looking for something different then your everyday Pokéfic, then look no further, as this story gives you action and romance in a different setting than the days of Team Plasma.

Tor: Thank you for your time, and for you readers, I hope you consider reading into this as this book is definitely worth the time.

Private Review:

As said in the form, this review works a bit differently. I will send you a google document through direct/private message here on Wattpad. There's no need to worry about emails and all of that. I'll just send you the document to you so that no one else will see it. It's very similar to the public review stuff, except instead of listing all the stuff, it will start out with the title and your name on the document (more so that I can keep it in line with all my other google docs) and will go straight into the review.

Again, if you liked the review and wish to have it published on here, you're more than welcomed to do so. After I've given you the review, I already expect you to reply back saying that you've read it. During this time, or maybe months later if you so choose, you can always ask for it to be published. The only thing to look out for is that every 6 months (June/December) I plan on erasing all the reviews I've made to declutter my account. So, if I give you a review in November, you have a month to decide whether or not to keep it private or to publish it. Once June or December passes, there's no turning back.

Of course, the review content will always reveal spoilers as you're the only one receiving it, so it may look just like the review above, or in more depth.

No matter which service you choose, I wish you the best of luck with all your writings.
