26. Prince of Busan
부산의 왕자
''Pfft, no? Don't flatter yourself Jimin. I was enjoying the song, actually.'' With a roll of eyes and her head up high, she walked by him, leaving her backpack in the corner of the studio as her back was turned towards him.
''Right.'' A soft chuckle escaped Jimin's lips as he walked closer, footsteps echoing and his eyes travelling to the mirror as if to search for June's expression. ''It still amazes me how you're getting worse at lying with each day that goes by.''
Without turning around, June smiled, her lips stretching immediately and giving Jimin exactly what he wanted to see.
''I can read you so well.''
''Oh can you now?'' She sat down on the floor, extending one of her foot to put on the dancing shoes. Lifting her head up, she was now looking at Jimin's proud reflection.
''You know, sometimes, you can be quite annoying.'' And her mocking smile lightened a bit more. ''I wonder why I'm friends with you.''
Jimin furrowed his eyebrows in confusion. ''Oh.'' Getting even closer now, he stared at the mirrored version of her. ''We're friends?''
''Not for too long if you keep being annoying.'' Done with putting her shoes on, she continued with another question. ''Where are the others?''
With the intention to avoid the current matter of the conversation, she kept twirling her fingers in the process. ''Are they coming?''
''Namjoon hyung said he was going to be a bit late, but Hobi should be here in ten minutes or so.''
With that being said, the two remained silent, staring at each other for a couple more minutes. Hand resting in the pocket of his jeans, Jimin looked down at his feet, almost avoiding her eyes looking straight at him.
''Alright, so...'' June's voice trailed off. ''Where do we start?''
''Right.'' He nodded his head, lifting up a finger in the air after turning around and walking over to his backpack in the other corner. Once there, he took out a stack of papers, brought them back and handed them to June.
''The script.'' He said. ''It looks like there's a lot going on, but trust me it's not as scary as it seems.''
Nodding her head, June took the papers, eyes scanning through each and every word written. ''Do we know what day the curtains open?''
''I talked with my former dance teacher a few days ago about organization. He said the theater will most likely be free in a month or so, but it's up to us on how fast we'll be able to get through the choreography.''
Flicking through the pages, June nodded her head.
''Also I've been talking to Hoseok hyung about roles and he suggested that I could play the prince.''
And Hoseok made a damn good suggestion.
''But being a bit biased and familiar with Boyoung's dancing, he suggested that she could play the princess.''
Nevermind.
''And you can be the moon.''
Trying not to sound disappointed, June cracked a smile, but the tone in her voice gave it away. ''O-oh.''
''Oh?'' The corner of his lips tug up in a small smirk. ''I can't tell if that was a good oh or a bad oh?''
Ignoring his rhetorical question, June stepped aside, facing the mirror with the papers still in her hands. ''Okay,'' she mutters to herself, eyes searching for the word moon written on them.
''There.'' She pointed ecstatically. ''The first scene with the moon; The prince is standing on the balcony of his very own room covered in luxury and glory.
But all of its magnificence wasn't enough to satisfy his dying desire of wanting to know the way to happiness. And as if on cue, the glowing moon in the night sky finally speaks to the prince, willing to help but with the consequences that will occur.''
Reading through the script, she glanced up at Jimin in confusion, unsure of where to even begin. Almost annoyed and completely lost, she didn't know how to turn a script into a story - how to turn a script into dancing and communicating with the audience.
As soon as Jimin saw the uncertainty on her face, he took the pages from her hands, scanning the document before putting them on the floor near the mirror, now smiling at her warmly, ''here, let me show you how to choreograph this scene.''
Once explaining the movements, Jimin tried to teach her the choreography he thought of, but the words were like a foreign language to her. She couldn't concentrate on the directions Jimin was giving her.
Aware that her dancing might not be the one suited for the role of a princess, it caused her to stumble here and there, almost proving to her that the role of the moon was just as difficult.
Maybe even more difficult.
And she knew that very well. But the thing she was bothered by the most wasn't the fact that she didn't get the wanted role, rather the fact that the role was given to a person she couldn't learn to love.
Hate is a strong word and June didn't hate Boyoung, she had no reason to. The girl was practically an angel made in heaven, so sweet and caring, full of understanding and yet June couldn't accept her existence.
She was so jealous of Boyoung.
But then again how dare she act the way she does when Jimin wasn't even hers in the first place?
''I'm sorry.'' Was a sentence June's lips left for a hundredth time during the prolonged practice.
And the exact words led Jimin to pressing his temples in soft frustration, as he was still trying to remain calm and motivating in every way he could, but there was no way for her to concentrate on the reflection in front of her, not when she had to deal with the fact that she fell in love with a person that might not feel the same.
''Alright.'' Jimin sighed, finally having enough of it and moving a step closer to her. ''Can you focus on me now?''
June's mouth didn't get a chance to answer back, when a pair of warm hands wrapped around her hips.
Almost choking on air, she stopped her breath, eyes widening in the process.
That's when she knew he was the only one that could calm her racing mind.
When his fingertips left a hypnotizing touch against her, she was mesmerized by the look in his eyes, now almost effortlessly following his movements. A puppet ruled by the strings Jimin was pulling - that's what she was at the moment.
''Focus.'' He repeated, but that's the last thing she could do when her body was covered in his touch.
Foot forward, an arm up in the air, his hand would move down her thigh so softly, and then quickly moved back up to holding her waist.
Her fingers clicked to the right as his clicked to the left. With each new step, her heart would pound harder and faster, threatening to jump straight out of her chest.
Her elbows gracefully tore through the air, in perfect rhyme with his feet, tracing down all the emotions both fo them denied. When the music turned silent, their body language didn't.
Now closer than ever, Jimin leaned towards her, thumb pressed against her chin as he breathlessly muttered before tilting her head to look at him. ''I want to kiss you so bad right now.''
The scent of his warm and humid breath left June in a trance, her mind completely wiping off the world around her.
And without hesitation, she answered back. ''Then do it.''
But when their lips touched, the entrance door opened.
