20. Drunk

WHEN THE EMPTY CANS OF BEER started to outnumber the ones untouched, their talks became endless, with each of them having a memorable story to tell; from sneaking out of their bedrooms to smashing the neighbours windows in the late evening hours.
The students seemed to be having the time of their lives, with bright young smiles stretched across their faces. Not even a single bad word has been shared, aside from bad choices and good memories they have made.
All of them were seated at the small table, loud laughing coming from Hoseok which later on resulted in Namjoon nudging him with the hope to silence the already drunk boy.
June and Boyoung have been talking repeatedly, two girls sharing bits of their lives as if they were close friends.
However, Jimin sat in silence, carefully scrutinizing the little movie happening in front of him. The beer can he held in his hand was half full, or half empty; he couldn't tell.
There was something on his troubled mind that wouldn't leave him alone; like a weird itch that could not be scratched.
He would force a smile here and there, pretending that he was actually listening to the stories they all shared when in reality, the only thing he listened to was the monotone tapping of his own fingers against the wooden table.
That weird feeling was unknown to him. Why was he acting like this all of a sudden? Just last week, he had visited Yoongi, an old friend for a birthday celebration at which he doesn't remember having this weird feeling cackling within his bones, almost mocking him. A downer, was never a word that could've been paired with Jimin's character. The boy was far from it.
So why now? Why at this welcome party?
As the time went on, his eyes soon followed the slumber movements of the girl who's never been drunk before, not until now however, as her attempt to pour another intoxicating drink miserably failed, the liquid now covering the surface of the whole table.
But June doesn't move, she doesn't even flinch nor try to clean it up. Instead she stared, her gaze fixed on the front.
"Whoops." She mumbled to herself as Namjoon stood up, laughing and grabbing the tissues another group of friends have had.
"That's fine", Boyoung's voice erupted, the girl clearly keeping the alcohol within the limits. She was a good drinker, knew when to stop and take it easy, unlike June.
"Ah, I spilled my drink. What am I supposed to drink now?" June whined.
With no bad intentions, Bo extended her arm towards the girl, handing her the leftover drink. "Here, have some of mine."
Before June could wrap her fingers around the can, it was soon in hands of Jimin, who was now standing, his lips forming a straight line.
"Alright, the party's over." He said, grabbing the wrist of the drunk girl who's stumbled to her own feet.
"Ah, Jimin, what's wrong now?" Hoseok's doe eyes widened as Namjoon kept silent.
"Let her stay." Bo dragged out the words in an almost child-like way, but Jimin doesn't smile like he would used to. The grip around June's wrist only tightened as he stared at his girlfriend in disappointment.
"You can stay and drink, but she can't. She lives almost an hour away and you're encouraging her to drink? How's she supposed to go home?"
And that, was the itch.
Though his girlfriend's face dropped, her pale skin turning even paler as she tried to mutter a simple sorry, but she knows Jimin wouldn't listen to her. He never does. Not when he was pinpointing at the mistakes she has done.
After no words have been said, the boy dragged June outside the classroom as she tried to free her way out, failing yet again. "Yah, let me go! What are you now, my mom?"
"No", he kept walking, almost mentally slapping himself for allowing things to get this far. "You're drunk."
"I'm not." While scrunching her nose, she looked around for a moment, as if trying to think of whether Jimin was right or not. So when her brain couldn't think of any answers to give him, she gave up. "Okay, maybe a little."
Once releasing her hand, Jimin sighed in exasperation, watching as June plopped her whole weight onto the stairs.
"Do you want me to call you a cab?" He asked, standing in front of her with arms crossed, having only one thing written on his face; worry.
"I'm good." She replied, her head sinking in her lap before muttering another sluggish sentence. "I'm done."
A long sigh left Jimin's lips as he ran a hand through his dark hair, the light wind sending shivers down his spine. It was way too cold outside.
"Jimin?" The girl's head shoot up.
"Yeah?"
"I think I'm gonna throw up." She pouted her lips, not moving her limbs and then waited for a thing to happen, not a miracle, but for her stomach to turn upside down. So when nothing happened, she sighed, plopping her head back into her lap. "False alarm."
"Oh, god." Jimin's voice was as deep as the the worry he had for this girl. Once the boy crouched in order to help the girl stand up again, her hands wrap around his neck so naturally, her face buried in his collars dressed in the smell of vanilla.
"C'mon now", he purred into her ear, keeping balance. "Let's go."
"Where? Are we going to Disneyland? Please say yes, I want to say hi to Goofy."
"Nope, no Disneyland for you." He answered and as a reply got a pout from June's lips. "I'm walking you home."
"I don't want to go home nor do I want to walk." In attempt to move away from him and throw her arms in the air, she stumbled once again, quickly dragging Jimin by his shirt.
"I'm sorry." A clumsy smile formed her lips. "I'm a little drunk."
But the boy couldn't keep a laugh in. "I see that."
It seemed that the time has stopped, the world around remained stuck in a loop, as the two of them stared at each other for almost too long. June's arms were wrapped around Jimin's neck, a feeling that was yet so natural and effortless, as if she had been doing it every day.
Her hand moved towards his cheek, not caressing it, rather resting on it, almost feeling the loud thumping of his heart through his whole being.
"You know Jimin'', she smiled brightly, the drink now talking instead of her. ''You're really handsome. You can be a prince in real life. Maybe even the prince of Disneyland.''
Her eyes then widened. ''Holy shit! If you become the prince of Disneyland, will you please introduce me to Goofy?''
''Of course.'' He laughed.
''Thank you!'' She slurred. ''But honestly'', the girl kept talking, the dialogue almost turning into her own monologue. ''I was joking the other day when I said that you're a narcissist. I mean, sure you're beautiful, your jawline is out of this world and your thighs are pure heaven, but you're much more than that.''
The boy's cheeks turned red, a warm sensation suddenly overwhelming him as he wasn't able to utter a witty word back.
''And I really want to practice my dancing with you and-''
Before she could finish her sentence, her legs gave up on her, causing her to almost trip but the grip around her waist tightened as Jimin held her, this time closer than ever; not wanting to let her go.
He doesn't even realize when the inches between their faces decreased, his lips almost touching hers but he then stepped away.
''We can't.'' Was all he said as the girl's face was clouded with both confusion and sadness. Did he just try to kiss her?
''Jimin, I-''
He cut her off. ''It's late. Let me just take you home.''
Her lower lip trembled, a second of sobriety coming through her. ''It's because of Boyoung isn't it? You don't want to lose her?''
But the boy doesn't say anything, yet his head bowed down, not because he was afraid that he'll hurt Bo, but because she hasn't come across his mind until her name escaped June's lips.
Still held in his arms June arched her head back, now looking at the sky above her. ''Jimin-ah, look how beautiful the moon is.'' Before everything through her eyes went black.
