Chapter 7: Together Again

***From Madelyn's point of view

I wake up screaming. Kylie comes rushing into my room.
"Your alive!" I yell and throw my arms around her.
"Of course I'm alive. It was a dream."
"No it wasn't!" I yell. "Me and Derek are the only people left on earth your head got cut of from his zombie sister everyone is a zombie only me and him are alive so I guess we'll have to get married and have kids to repopulate the EARTH!!!" I yell and scream and cry for another five minutes, and it's only then that I can actually register that Kylie is right in front of my face.
I calm down a little and then I can actually talk.
"Can I go see mom to make sure she's alive?" I ask.
"No it's two in the morning she'd get mad if you woke her up."
"Why did I have this dream?" I ask.
"Well you were telling me about Derek and about how his mom died and then we saw a zombie movie last night remember?" Kylie replied.
"Oh ya well I don't want to go back to sleep because I'm afraid that I'll have another dream like that."
"Why don't we watch a not scary movie?" Kylie suggests.
So we both got in my bed and watched Annie on my iPad until we bother all asleep.

"Madelyn can we talk?" Kylie asks me.
"Sure," I reply.
"The only reason I quit jump rope was because I never thought that I'd be as good of a jumper as you. It's kinda hard because I felt like you were gonna place at nationals before I would, which I wouldn't of liked. I strived to be better than you were, but it just wasn't going to happen. Now I realize that. I shouldn't have just quit and decided to do soccer instead. I miss jump rope. I should have stopped just trying to be better than you and instead tried to be the best that I could be."
"But you are better than me! You're better at thirty second speed, and we're about the same at one minute speed. Your single rope routine had better presentation and less misses than mine. And you're more creative than I am and better at working and groups and coming up with routines! Your an amazing jumper!"
"I realize that now. I didn't a week and a half ago. I miss jump rope, I miss working with you! I'm rejoining the team!"
My eyes fill with tears off joy. I hug Kylie so hard that it's probably painful, but who cares? The twins are together again!
That night mom drives us to practice. When we walk through the door? Everyone is happy to see Kylie again. They all hug her and my mom talks to Coach Jennifer. I introduced Kylie to Derek, and she later pulls me aside and tells me he's even cutter than I described him. I hope he likes me back and not Kylie!
That's the problem with having an identical twin. I guess I am pretty, and there are some boys who like me, but they can't tell me an Kylie apart. I know we look the same, but we each have our own style. Kylie likes sophisticated and colorful clothing, and I prefer romantic clothes, anything pink, frilly, lacy, or white. We dress each other sometimes, and it's fun! We also do each other's hair all the time.
We've even switched places before. No one can really tell the difference, except our parents. Once I took Kylie's math test (which I'm good at) and she took my reading test (which she's good at) and the teachers never noticed. We didn't try it again though, because we were afraid that the teachers would get suspicious that we have the same scores on our tests.
That night at practice we start out with singles. Thankfully, I do better than I did a week ago. I only have two misses, which is much much MUCH better than 8.
Kylie does her routine with 5 misses. It must be from a week an a half of not jumping. It's good she didn't wait to come back until it was too late. She could make up for the time she missed with a lot of practice.
We have a little break, and Derek pulls me aside.
"Oh my gosh I had the worst dream ever last night!" he says.
"Me too!" I reply. "You were in it, and so was your sister, and all these zombies and.."
"And we were the last people left on earth!" he says, finishing my sentence.
"We had the same dream! That's kinda freaky!"
"It's like telepathy!" I exclaim. "I mean, I've had the same dream as Kylie before, but that's not freaky because we're twins."
"My sister is my twin," Derek says. "But of course we're not identical or anything because she's a girl."
"And we're not related at all," I say.
"I guess it's just a weird coincidence."
"Let's work on pairs!" Coach Jennifer calls out. And that ends our conversation.
I start walking over to Kylie but then Derek beckons me over. Oh no. Until this second I hadn't thought at all about who would be my pairs partner.
Coach Jennifer beats me to it. She walks over to me and says, "It's your choice Madelyn. Who do you want to be partners with?"
My brain freezes. Kylie is my twin, my sister forever, and we already have my routine. But Derek is my crush, and he lost his mom less than a week ago. I can't just ditch him!
The most important decision of my life, with the regional competition less than two weeks away! Who will be my pairs partner: my crush, or my sister?
