***From Derek's Point of View

I miss my old team. It wasn't as fun but I had friends and my pairs partner was my best friend. I sighed thinking about my old friends and my original team.
"Hey, you want to work on double dutch and double dutch pairs?"
I look up to find Madelyn smiling with double dutch ropes in hand.
"Sure." I say while getting up.
I work on double dutch for about an hour with Jen and Madelyn.
"Attention everyone," Coach Jennifer yells over the music in the gym," in five minutes everyone will be showing their double dutch routines."
"Derek, Madelyn come here. Okay, we have been working for a while but it is not the best because we have mister new jumper here." Jen says while looking at me," if we mess up try to stay calm and smile. Remember the order dance, double unders, and power. Let's rock this!"
After the five minutes are up the first ones up do a great job. They do flips and awesome power.
"Next up is Jen, Madelyn, and Derek."
"We got this." I say trying to get my partners happy.
We get into position, when the buzzer goes off we go right into it.
We get 5 misses, they are mostly on my power.
"Derek, you did great for your first time. How can you memorize things so fast?"
"I don't know Madelyn, I just can. I'm sorry I messed up on the power I was going faster than usual."
"It's ok. We need to learn what speed you like to do your power." Madelyn says trying to make me happy.
"Can we work on double dutch pairs?" I say because I need to learn all the routines.
"Sure. Jen, Melody let's show him what he has to do in our pairs.
For the rest of class we worked on double dutch pairs then showed it a few times getting 5 to 10 misses every time.
"Madelyn"
"Yes Derek?"
"Thanks for showing the routines and making me feel like I am part of the team." I say while smiling.
"No prob, it was fun. Well I got to go, bye!"
"Bye Madelyn."
I sit around waiting for my mother to come pick me up. I wait till eight that is 30 minutes after she is supposed to pick me up.
"Derek," Coach Jennifer comes out with a phone in hand," Your mother and sister were in a car crash. Your sister is severely injured and is in the hospital and your mother... didn't make it."
I was in shock, why did this have to happen to me of all people. First my mother gets divorced, second my sister gets really sick with a bad disease, and then this happens.
My eyes start to tear up just thinking of these horrid events.
I scream and run out of the gym with Coach Following me while yelling my name to stop.
I stop in an alley way behind the gym.
"Derek, it will be fine. I will drive you to the hospital to see your sister. Come on let's go."
