A Queen Who never Wanted To be
A/N
Okay. Since I am writing a spinoff, you should actually know the movie whose spinoff I'm going to write. And moreover I'm writing a fanfic for that movie itself, all through, so I can continue my plot in a subtle way.
Movie Introduction
Rose Hathaway is a Dhampir, half human-half vampire, a guardian of the Moroi, peaceful, mortal vampires living discreetly within our world. Her calling is to protect the Moroi from bloodthirsty, immortal Vampires, the Strigoi.
Vampire Academy (also known as Vampire Academy: Blood Sisters) is a 2014 British-American fantasy comedy horror film based on Richelle Mead's 2007 best-selling novel of the same name, directed by Mark Waters, and scripted by Daniel Waters.
The film stars Zoey Deutch, Danila Kozlovsky, Lucy Fry, and Dominic Sherwood in lead roles.
It was released in North America on February 7, 2014 and globally between March and July of the same year.
It was distributed in the United States by The Weinstein Company.
And here's two movie posters, guys do read the books and watch the movie. It's where my heart is.
You can watch the full movie on YouTube.
So now my story is from the point of view of one of the minor characters. The blonde girl, Lissa Dragomir.
And my story is...
Lissa's POV
Do you know what it feels like to have your world turned upside down in one day? It is a moment when you feel like sinking to the ground, making yourself as small and invisible as possible.
I was a princess, and suddenly everything changed. I'm the queen, not to forget the fact that I'm only 18. I have the responsibility of the entire Moroi population of 1.2 million.
I know what is in your mind!
Queen! Oh my God! What respect, honour, dignity! Dresses, parties, meetings and days of carefree existence.
But that's what is actually a myth. My life isn't what it seems. It's fraught with dangers, desires, betrayals, pain and death. The throne that I was destined to possess is a throne of thorns, the court is on fire.
Every step I take, everything I do is criticized, scrutinized, judged and is rebelled against. Rebels would actually go to any lengths to have me dead.
Being the last in the Dragomir line, and a reigning monarch isn't as interesting as it sounds.
By the way. I'm Her Majesty Queen Vasilisa Sabina Rhea Dragomir, the first of my line.
Yeah that's my crappy designation, and I hate it. So I permit you to call me just Queen or Lissa, better still, Liss.
But where did this madness begin and where did it end?
We were just two girls, me and my most trusted guardian in training, Rose Hathaway. My own uncle Victor Dashkov had wanted to keep me captive to heal him.
For your information, I had never formally declared a magic, until we found that I bore one of the rarest and the most precious of all elements. We call it spirit.
Spirit is something which can grant life and yes, I can heal and to say the truth, I've brought dead things back. Sounds creepy right? Don't worry, when you stay in the Royal Court, a civilization hidden from the human world in Pennsylvania, everything is possible.
My uncle wanted to exploit my power. Luckily Rose and her mentor cum love interest, Dimitri Belikov, stopped him.
But then things started happening. The Strigoi attacked St Vladimir's Academy. People were taken hostages. Rose and Dimitri went to rescue them.
We lost Dimitri or so we thought.
But then we knew that Dimitri had turned. Rose left me to go find and save his soul. After a lot of heart breaks and deadly fights, I planned with Rose and we together sought out more spirit users like me. We learnt a way to restore Strigoi.
Everything was a mess when Dimitri kidnapped me and Rose was faced with a choice. Her devotion, dedication and loyalty surpassed love and she was ready to kill Dimitri. I somehow intervened and we could save him.
But then he began denying her, they went through a whirlwind of emotions.
Meanwhile my fate was being written. Queen Tatiana Ivashkov was murdered and my best friend Rose was accused and trapped.
Dimitri broke her out of prison and together they went to find the real culprit. But what they brought back was another shock.
They found Jillian Dragomir, my half sister. I got to know that my father had cheated on my mother and his love child was my sister. She was another Dragomir. With this shocking realization came the toughest challenge, to accept her or reject.
Meanwhile my friends had forcefully made me a contender for the throne. Struggling through all those tests, I emerged a victor, resting assured that since I'm the only member, according to law, I was disqualified from elections.
Then came along my sister. I didn't have a chance to protest. They elected me queen, believing I was the incarnation of some legendary Queen Alexandra.
And that's how I came to be what I am.
But things didn’t end there. One of the side effects of spirit was, it took a toll on your mental balance. Wielding spirit pushes you every moment towards the darkness and insanity. I had started to injure myself, to cause physical pain to distract myself from the emotional pain.
But eventually we realised that Rose, whom I had unknowingly brought back to life when I lost my family in a car crash, was my shadow kissed mate. She had touched death, escaped death and hence, she was drawing the darkness away from me, sacrificing her sanity to keep me from going off the edge.
Finally when Rose found the murderer of the queen, who was none other the aunt of Christian, Tasha , there was a scuffle in which Rose jumped before a gun to protect me.
She had been badly injured and almost died. I had been numbed and shocked. She somehow pulled through, but our spirit bond broke.
Then came the complications.
Rose had gone to Baia, Siberia, the hometown of Dimitri to meet his family.
At that time, I was really alone. My boyfriend, Christian Ozera, with a dark past of Strigoi parents, was too upset over the arrest of his only family, his aunt Tasha. He wasn’t being able to spend some time for me.
My life had become a mess of royal duties and sleepless nights and all the burden was pressing down on me. My relationship with Christian, my trust on my council, my fragile bond with Jillian was at its breaking point.
At some moment I realise that it was spirit that was making me frustrated, and severing of our bond meant that Rose couldn’t draw the darkness.
The darkness kept growing. I started hurting myself, again healing, crying, and screaming in my empty room. There was no one to support me. I never told Rose because she was spending some quality time. She had her life already she was risking her neck to protect me. How much more could I demand? I had actually been off my magic-numbing medicines for almost a month. Nobody knew.
Then one day, I committed a big mistake. I was frustrated with life, I couldn’t bear my daily self-harm and in a frenzied state, I took the worst decision of my life.
I called one of the guardians to my room. I told her to fetch me some documents. Just as she had turned, I pounced on her, my hands on her neck, choking her.
With her dhampir strength, she deftly threw me off, eyes widened in surprise.
I lunged for her again and this time she intercepted my attack, and just flung me to the wall, fumbling for her communicator.
I knew that I couldn’t do it in that way. So I implemented the last option left. I used my magical powers to compel and hypnotize her.
And as I sank my fangs into her neck, the endorphins numbed her completely.
Every part of my mind screamed that it was wrong and I didn’t have to take the extreme step to give up my magic, but at that time, I was drunk with the craving for freedom. I felt an unusual pleasure in seeing her life blood and force drain into me.
I dropped her limp body after she was drained. I could feel the surge of black magic in me and my vision was clearer, my hand were chalky pale and my eyes fell on a mirror. My eyes had ruby rims. Yet I had no regrets.
My throat burned with thirst and I dashed out of my chamber.
The first guardian that saw me had his necked snapped before he could utter a word.
Two others fell at my feet and I rushed to the compound grounds, deftly scaled the wall like a cat and then ran away, savoring an all-powerful life or no duties, no pain , no binding, no rebels, no family and no friends. My life of ordeal was gone and I knew I’d live for power, respect and recognition in the Strigoi world.

Having fled from the palace, I entered the forests of Pennsylvania. The night was bright as day and I could admire every single detail, hear every single sound with my heightened senses. I had no difficulties maneuvering my way through the forest. The trees yielded to my force. I strutted through it fearlessly.
Suddenly there was a rustle of leaves close by and three men surrounded me.
First I mistook them to be humans and then I realized my folly. They were the farthest thing from human.
They were evil bloodsuckers, the Strigoi. No sooner had I started backing away in fear, when I realized that I was one of them too.
I tried to hold out my hand in a gesture of peace. One of them snarled like a rabid beast. I could understand from their evil grin that they wanted to capture me to include me in their coven and I wasn’t going to let that happen.
I immediately changed my stance from defensive to offensive and crouched in a predatory way. The others began to circle around me as I tried to gauge from which side the attack would come.
One of them flew at me, locking his teeth on my arm. His fangs bit into my flesh, drawing blood. I used my strength to pry him off and deftly pin him under me. The years of training by Rose finally were being put to use.
Thinking of Rose made my heart heavy. Where was she? She was oblivious to the fact that her best friend was no more, that she was dead yet living for eternity.
My mind soon turned to Christian. Would he search for me? What would he feel when he would come to know about my choice, the ultimate sacrifice for sanity? He would hate me, despise me, and move further away.
But the other Strigoi still were waiting for a chance and I circled along with them in a kind of a death dance. The wound on my hand had healed as if it had never been there.
One of them stepped forward. I braced myself to counter his attack, when a voice boomed out, “Enough. Leave the girl alone.”
The two beasts flipped around and I saw a man emerge out of the undergrowth.
He was middle aged and not very tall, but stocky and strong with a cold terrible appearance, a strong and aquiline nose, swollen nostrils and a thin face in his very long eyelashes framed large wide-open crimson Strigoi eyes, compounded with bushy black eyebrows making him appear more threatening.
He was clean shaven with a moustache, swollen temples. A bull’s neck connected his head, which had blacks lock hanging on his wide shoulders. There was such cruelness and cunningness in his eyes that I instinctively flinched.
He strode forward and said in a commanding voice, “None of you touches the girl.”
The two men slithered behind him, as he came forward, a grin plastered on his face, his fangs on display.
“Queen Vasilisa Sabina Rhea Dragomir! What a surprise!” he said extending his hand.
I gingerly shook it, all the time wary.
“You’ll not know me but I know you. Well the entire Moroi world knows you. So what exactly made you come here, into this life?” he asked.
“I’m not bound to share my feelings with you. Moreover I don’t know you,” I replied curtly.
“I see you still haven’t gotten over your royal manners,” he chuckled, “I’m Vlad the third, the voivode of Wallace, the ruler and conqueror of Romania.”
“What? You’re dead. Our history says that,” I exclaimed.
“Does it? But I’m alive, I’m all powerful, a ruler of the night,” he said in a matter of fact way.
“That means your death was a staged one. You actually turned and then feigned death and escaped from you coffin,” I said without fear.
“Exactly girl,” he moved closer, “You’re really intelligent. Would you by any chance like to work with me? Because I doubt if you know anything about this life. I could guide you and counsel you.”
I considered his offer in my mind. I had nothing to lose but a lot to gain.
“I’ll come with you,” I said.
******************************
I hadn’t expected this would happen. Rose had come to find me. After all the hiding and the extra precautions I could feel that Rose was near. I could identify her earthly lavender scent, the smell which reminded of power and courage.
And not only her. Christian had tagged along. I wanted to go out there at that moment to ask why she had brought him. But as far as I knew, Christian would go to any lengths for the sake of his loved ones. I felt bad at betraying them.
And suddenly I had the desire to bring them to me and change them. Then we could stay together for eternity. With this motto in my mind, I sent a team of my most trusted Strigoi army to chase them and bring them at the desired location where I had planned to confront them.
But Rose being the badass she is, destroyed all my men. I sent more and just when they had come close to winning, Dimitri had come with a storm of guardians. But I had backup ready and soon it turned into a free for all.
Finally I had them all captured and tied and it was time to transform them. Rose had used all her techniques, threats, insults and pleadings but I had steeled my heart.
Rose was bound and destined for transformation.
Before I could drain Rose fully, Dimitri attacked me.
But in a series of crazy events, Christian shielding me, Rose dying. Dimitri made a choice.
I transformed Rose, my creation and then Christian. I wanted to take in Dimitri too, but Rose shielded him and he escaped.
It was then that Rose made me realise where I was wrong. I had not taken my medications that had led to all the complications. She told me that all at court were waiting for the queen.
Rose’s words made my eyes sting and I felt like I was the worst person ever. I suddenly wanted to go back, I suddenly wanted to transform and forget all of this as if it had never happened.
But I had to inform Vlad, or else he would come after me to destroy me. So I took Christian with me while Rose went to find Dimitri to tell him about my wishes. I just hoped that they could forgive me and that Dimitri would trust three Strigoi, three monsters like us.
::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::
I strode into Vlad’s court at Corvin castle. He had arranged a particular room with plush velvet cushions, gold chairs and heavy purple curtains to give it the semblance of a royal court.
He was sitting on his high seat.
I went and climbed on the chair by his side as was my habit.
He looked at Christian with a possessive glint. I had a sudden uneasy feeling.
“New one!” he commented.
“Yes,” I said and then looked straight at me, ‘Sir, I want to go back. The Moroi need me.”
With these words out of my mouth, I suddenly realized that I had made a blunder in coming here. His face turned from calm to fury. Perfect unadulterated rage exuded from him as he, forgetting all etiquettes, grabbed me by my hair and flung me down the steps to the throne.
Christian rushed to my side, but all the Strigoi present surrounded and overpowered us. We were locked away in the dungeons, to go insane from bloodlust.
Christian, who didn’t have his first feed even, was suffering. They had made a moat in front of our cell and filled it with charcoal with a fire burned there continuously as a ring of fire was the only thing we wouldn’t dare to cross.
We had given up all hope of return unless that fateful day.
¿——————————————?
Christian had gone without feed for too long. His eyes were dark and he was growing weak by the day. I wouldn’t be long before he would drain me.
But suddenly we saw a figure scale the fiery wall walking towards us. There was no mistake this time. It was Dimitri.
But at that moment, all hell broke loose. The scent of dhampir blood wiped out all sense of right and wrong from Christian’s mind. Before I could scream a warning, Christian pounced on Dimitri like a hungry lion.
He was not prepared for the attack and was tackled to the ground.
“Lissa help me,” he screamed, flinging his hands at me, but my throat burned badly and for a moment I forgot who was in front of me. It was a source to quench my thirst. I started moving towards him in a trance, intoxicated by the scent of his blood.
“Lissa, Christian,” I heard a feral scream.
“Rose, NO! ” Dimitri cried frantically, but Rose had already jumped right through the fire to save Dimitri.
Her body had caught fire and she was desperately trying to put out the raging flames.
The inferno distracted Christian for a bit and Dimitri by an unnatural rush of adrenaline, threw him off and jumped at the burning Rose.
He caught her smoking figure and for a moment there were only smoke and flames. I couldn’t see a single thing. I was so scared that I was shaking. I felt that fire was consuming both.
But suddenly the flames started reducing as the ball of flames rolled on the floor till all the flames were out.
I watched fascinated as Dimitri emerged, scathed, burned and disheveled, his hairs shriveled and charred and as he unfolded his duster, I found Rose. She had severe burns which were healing magically fast and she looked so dazed. He tried to make her stand to inspect the damage. She curled further into his chest and lay there.
There was no love existent in the world, which could be greater than theirs.
