Only Exception
A/N: Whoo! I'm finally done! I can't believe it and it's probably bad because most parts were written in the middle of the night! Have fun!!!!!!!! Used my favorite MakoHaru video for this because honestly, this video was the one that had struck the inspiration. Let's get into it!!!!!
When I was younger I saw my daddy cry and curse at the wind. He broke his own heart and I watched as he tried to reassemble it.
Jumin was only so young when he saw his father go from woman to woman. He was disappointed in his father and he sometimes couldn't bring himself to respond when his father said 'I love you' to him. He was sickened with what his father did. Jumin tried to justify it with his father probably trying to mend a broken heart left by his mother but couldn't be sure as he saw yet another woman walk out the door, having not worked out once again.
And my mamma swore that she would never let herself forget. That was the day that I promised I'd never sing of love if it does not exsit.
Once his father and mother finally went to get the divorce papers signed and final, Jumin sat and waited on a bench in the courthouse. He swung his legs back and forth as he waited for the adult business to be settled, waiting anxiously to see who he'd be going to. He thought over love as he waited and what it really meant.
Was this what love was? Does it all just end up like this? He had read somewhere that almost all marraiges end up in divorce. Jumin didn't want to feel that heartbreak. He didn't want to constantly fight with the person he loved and he didn't want to hurt anyone he deeply cared about. His black eyes darkened as he closed his eyes and sighed. The only choice I have is to not love at all.
But, darling, you are the only exception. You are the only exception. You are the only exception. You are the only exception...
Jumin hated himself. He hated himself for being so weak. He hated himself for finding both his assitant's personality and looks attractive. He hated himself for being like his father, not caring for professionalism. Not caring for her being his employee. He didn't want to like her in the slightest and he tried to push her away. Though, all he managed was only pulling her closer with dragging her into the RFA.
Maybe I know somewhere deep in my soul that love never lasts. We've got to find others ways to make it alone but keep a straight face. I've always lived like this, keep at a comfortable distance. Up until now I have sworn to myself that I'm content with loneliness. Because none of it was ever worth the risk.
Jumin kept having conflicted feelings with Jaehee. He kept seeing her as more. He kept being selfish and wanting more but he never acted on anything.
He never did anything that he wanted to, at least, not with her. He knew that she had the same views on love as him, that much was clear, but he still somehow had a need for her, of all people. He needed her close and he needed her with him.
He didn't need her romantically, per say, but he needed her in his life in any way she'd allow. He was driving himself insane and if he caught himself thinking of Jaehee, he'd always play with Elizabeth or distract himself in another way but that relief never lasted long. He knew that dating Jaehee was the riskiest thing he had ever thought about.
Not only because he knew it'd end up with fights and scandals. It'd also not be able to work out and he'd end up where his father ended up: divorced.
Well you are the only exception. You are the only exception. You are the only exception. You are the only exception!
He doesn't know what possesses him when he invites Jaehee to spend the night or when he takes her to places that really should only be reserved for dates or when he cares about her too much, even when she says to not worry about her.
He doesn't know what would make him say phrases like 'get there safe' or 'make sure you take care of yourself' at the end of each phone call with her. He doesn't know...
...No... He does. He knows exactly what is making him do these things. He knows it's the same thing that keeps him up at night and the same thing that makes him look at her not like any other employee he's ever hired.
It's the same thing that possesed him to get a place for her to practice judo in the office and it's the same thing that makes his heart jump when a smile is all for him. It's the same thing that makes him have to take a deep breath when his heart flutters.
I've got a tight grip on reality but I can't let go of what's in front of me here!
Jumin held onto the last shread of reality he had. The last part of his logic without emotion butting in as he watched an employee try to ask Jaehee on a date. Jumin was pleased when Jaehee gave him the cold shoulder, adding a "Get lost," after it. He was even more pleased when she came over to him and handed him whatever was in her arms at the time.
"Mr. Han, these are all the reports that you had asked me for," Is it really? He had asked just a few days ago. He had known that Jaehee was exceptional at her job but he hadn't known that she was so good. She did it quickly and without hesitation. At the same time, that worried Jumin as well. Did she eat properly? Was she showering? Is she sleeping?
"Thank you, Assistant Kang," Jumin instead said. He knew that whenever he fret over her too much, Jaehee told him not to worry and that he really shouldn't care so much. So, instead, during lunch he brought some of the food to her as a thank you instead of a take care of yourself. Of course, she didn't notice until it was right in her face because she was working herself so hard. He found that both admirable and frightening.
I know you're leaving in the morning when you wake up! Leave me with some kind of proof it's not a dream!
Jaehee has the cutest yawn... Jumin always thought that when Jaehee came out of her room, still in her sleep clothes and obviously not a morning person. She was irritable in the morning most times but always tried to keep calm with Jumin except for the few times she sassed the living daylights out of him. Other times she'd just glare if he started talking. One time she literally moaned in pain and asked him to stop making noises with his mouth. That day he lost his shit and started laughing at the woman before him. Even if Jumin was just as tired, he was a better morning person than her, who was more of a night owl.
"I-"
"No," Was the only reply he got from her and that caused a chuckle to erupt from Jumin as she passed him to make it to the coffee. He heard her let out a whimper and collapse in the sofa with him.
"No coffee?" All he got was another sound and her finally looking at him that morning. "Ah, I'm finally looking at the monster's eyes,"
"I need you to shut up,"
"Oh, come on, it's a day off~" He reminded her. She smiled a bit at that information until she closed her eyes for a moment.
"I wanna go to sleep,"
"I wanna go get you some more coffee," Jumin said and Jaehee looked up at him again, her face not showing any excitement other than the shine in her eyes. "Want me to?"
"I...Um... I..." She was reluctant in asking him to, since she didn't know where you could get more of something that wasn't there without going to the store. He smiled at her as he went to go get it, causing her to flop on the couch cushion he was just occupying.
You are the only exception (x8). And I'm on my way to believing. Oh, and I'm on my way to believing...
Jumin came back only to find the woman he had went to grab coffee for lying on the couch in his spot. She looked as though she was just barely hanging onto staying awake but that was normal for Jaehee, even if she got a full 10 hours. If you had told Jumin he'd be catering to his assitant and she'd be treating his home as her own five years ago, he'd probably tell you just how wrong you were. Now, he sat her coffee cup on the table and touched her face gently to make her open her eyes again.
"There she is,"
"I was having a dream,"
"No, you weren't. I can see right through you. Besides, no person can fall asleep that fast. Here," Jumin said as he handed her the cup.
"Thank you," She said and then sat up, taking the cup and smiling. She was an angel once she got something to wake her up but without anything? She was a monster. A very sleepy monster, at that. He could've laughed but he only smiled at her as she looked out the window. "I need to change soon," She said, suddenly aware of the night dress she was wearing.
"You don't have to. It's only my house, anyways,"
"But you're not the only one here, are you?" She asked.
"Touchè," He said, thinking to all the workers in the building. Still, he felt a little good that she'd have no problem if he was just there.
"But only after I finish this,"
"Of course," Jumin said. He heard the tone of the RFA going off, telling him someone's online and had started a chatroom.
"Who's in the chat?" Jaehee asked and Jumin smiled at her fondly. Maybe... Maybe she's not the worst person to feel love for...
