Denied Because of Fear

So far, all Jumin could use to describe both his and Jaehee's work ethic was... poor. In all the years of his life, he never thought that he'd show such ill performance in the company because of a woman. He had his everyday thoughts on the same woman that plauged his everyday life. She probably didn't think he still thought about that small 'confession', If you could call it that.

Jaehee had accidentally confessed any and all feelings she had felt for him but, in turn, he denied her. He knew he felt for her, of course he did, but he couldn't trust that she'd truly love him. He knows Jaehee doesn't want anything to do with his title or money (except for getting paid). He knows she'd love him but it was fear that overtook his words and body at that moment.

The fear that other women had planted into his mind. The fear that he would loose her in some way or another. The fear that maybe it was all an elaborate joke. The fear that she doesn't really love him, in short.

Jaehee had been just as clumsy as he had been around the office after her confession. Others had wondered what happened but neither one explained why they're in such a state. The worst part? Nothing changed between them. What's infuriating about that? It seemed they had a closeness he just noticed. Whenever she spilled her coffee on herself, he was already going to get something or, if it was big, he'd already be giving her his overcoat. If he hasn't been taking care of himself, Jaehee had been the one to give him food or tell him he should sleep and vise versa.

It was infuriating how he was in the habit of taking care of her through these types of things and how she would care back. It was also strange how old habits die hard because Jumin found himself collapsed on the same bed as her more than once. They were tired, yes, and they've done that a lot but it was so unprofessional and yet, he made no move to stop it. It was always Elizabeth III that woke him up. It wasn't like they cuddled each other when they would but it was way too close for what they were supposed to be.

He knew he loved her, yes, but how did he love her? Like friends? Okay, he knows it surpasses any friendships he has. Like family? Closer but not exactly it. Like a lover? Maybe... maybe that's a little over. Then what is it?!

It wasn't supposed to be this difficult with Jaehee. How dare V come in and convince him to hire her?! He never thought it would make him question his and Jaehee's relationship later on! He sat on his bed, letting the mattress take all his weight. He stared at nothing before sighing and taking out his phone. Who in RFA is most experienced in love?

Zen... Of course.... Jumin dialed his number, wondering when was the last time he called him. He was thankful Zen picked up and let out a small sigh of relief.

"Hello? What is it?"

"I have a question,"

"You could've just texted,"

"I know but... I just want to know.. What do I feel for Jaehee Kang?" There was silence before Zen spoke again.

"What? What do you mean?"

"I... I feel something and I don't know but if I think about her, my chest tightens and I feel like I'm burning without really being on fire, even on the inside. I know she's not a friend, I know she's not like family but she's not exactly like a lover so I don't know what it is. You're the only one who's had a girlfriend in the last 5 years, so you would know how it feels to love something. Do you know what I feel?" Jumin stayed silent just as Zen did. Jumin didn't say anything, letting Zen process what he was trying to say.

"... Jumin... You already know what it is. If you're comparing her to a girlfriend, you already know,"

"Zen, please, I don't understand," Jumin said, desperately looking for answers to his predicament. Jaehee couldn't make him feel like this forever, could she?

"...I think that's what I feel for MC.." It was Jumin's turn to be silent. He blinked a couple times in disbelief. He couldn't love Jaehee like that. He couldn't kiss her like Zen did MC or flirt with her like that, could he? He couldn't want to possibly do that.

"I..." Jumin tried to respond but nothing really came out. Zen sighed on the other end as Jumin's face contorted to confusion.

"Listen... You know damn well that Jaehee isn't like all women. Just... think about your relationship with her... I'll talk to you later," And with that, Zen hung up. Jumin sat there dumbfounded at his conversation. Elizabeth III meowed, causing Jumin to look at her. Jumin smiled as she jumped up into his lap and purred.

"Hello, princess," Jumin said as he started petting her. It calmed him a small bit but not enough. The thought of him liking an assistant is what bothered him the most. Jaehee as a person was wonderful but... he always swore to not mix romance with business.

-------------------

While he knew exactly what his feelings were, he never told her. As far as she knows, he denied her and that was that. As far as she's aware, Jumin holds no feelings for her and she was not going to push it. In all honesty, he couldn't stand it anymore.

He wasn't able to find a time to confess his own feelings and it had been weeks! She has probably moved on by now! He decided to make absolutely sure that Jaehee still liked him so he called the person who knew her almost as well as he did.

"Hello?" MC's delicate voice answered the phone. Jumin smiled before he realized it was a phone call and saw no point in doing so.

"Hello, MC. I hope you are doing well,"

"I am. I was just about to make some lunch,"

"That's good. You should eat to keep yourself healthy," Jumin pulled at a strand of hair before speaking again. "Anyways, I called you about Jaehee,"

"Ah, she was telling me. You guys aren't good right now, are you?"

"Well, it's more like we're being clumsy. I think we are still fine. Although... Do you know if she still loves me?" Jumin asked. MC was silent before responding with a cheery voice.

"Yes. She's just super embarrassed because she accidently confessed but feelings don't go away because you got denied," MC said honestly. Jumin sighed, seeming to release all the anxieties that clouded his mind.

"Thank you. I want to right my mistake,"

"What do you mean?"

"I... actually really liked her. Though, I denied her because of fear. You see, these feelings.... They're very new to me. I've always liked Jaehee, I mean, she was the only woman I could trust for three years. It was inevitable to hold something for her,"

"Then why did you reject her again? I'm confused..." MC asked, making Jumin sigh. Another list of reasons he likes Jaehee. She understands what he's trying to say perfectly almost all the time.

"I rejected her because I didn't want her to be like everyone else. I didn't want her to realize that one day, she didn't love me and walk out of my life or she realize that she could just turn into the gold diggers. I know that was unfair. I was too unfair in handling the situation and, fortunately, I want to confess,"

"That's great!"

"But I need help..."

"... Huh? How?"

------------------------

Jaehee walked into the office, sighing as she came through the doors at being rescued from the harsh temperature of the morning. "Hello, Miss. Kang. I'm sure you've made it here safely," The secretary said, taking Jaehee's I.D. and verifying it before giving her a smile and handing it back. "You have a great day. Oh! Mr. Han told me to tell you to make it to his office quickly. Some emergency, I think," She said.

"Thank you," Jaehee said, heading to the elevator and starting to wonder what it was. She desperately hoped it wasn't to deal with the RFA. If that was what it dealt with, then someone was hurt or lost. They've already dealt with the hacker, she hopes it isn't happening again! She grabbed the handle to his office and pulled it towards her, not expecting the room to be dark. She was confused for a moment before a loud "Boo!" Sounded right beside her ear, making her scream. She looked to her left and recognized the face of MC. "MC, what the hell?"

"Hehe, sorry!" MC said before turning on the light. Within minutes, all the members with the exception of Jumin jumped from their hiding places, yelling "Surprise! He's in love with you!" Jaehee was confused for only a second on who before she connected the dots of why Jumin wasn't there. Her eyes widened and her face felt hot. This was probably the first time she ever blushed this badly...

"..." She was speechless. She couldn't say anything, what was she supposed to say?! Nevertheless, Yoosung smiled at her and gave her the flowers he held in his hands.

"Jumin said these were for you!" The blonde boy seemed to be excited. Well.... He has said before that he loves a good scandal and God almighty, was this a big one. She thanked him and asked where her boss was. "He said that he was afraid of your reaction. You know, since he rejected you the first time and all that. The thing is, he also said to tell you that you could find him in your office if you weren't mad at him," Jaehee wasn't mad. Not in the slightest. Just confused and maybe a little happy. She has to wonder, though.... Did she manage to make him fall in love within all those weeks? It's definitely possible, since MC managed to make Zen fall in love with him in only 11 days.

Either way, she smiled at Yoosung and thanked him again before thanking everyone else and turning back into the hallway to walk the short distance to her own office. Jaehee almost chuckled at the idea of this being like a big scavenger hunt. Only the one thing to find was Jumin.

She turned the knob on her door and opened it, looking down to the ground. She slowly looked up once she caught sight of his shoes and made the way to his face. He smiled nervously, a smile she's never seen on this man before. It almost felt good to have this power over her boss.

"Hello," He said. He still had that professional air to him despite this being the most unprofessional position they've been in yet. That's saying a lot.

"Hello, Mr. Han. So, to start off, I've got a few questions," She paused to make sure he was listening, looking for the nod before continuing. "Why now? It's been weeks and you haven't shown any signs that you were falling in love. Is there something going on that I don't know about?" She couldn't help but not trust the situation. It seemed too good. Maybe he was using her as an escape route from marriage or something. It's completely possible, with what that Sarah girl was trying to do. Though, Jaehee managed to shut that marriage down without having to pose as his girlfriend.

"No. There's nothing you have to worry about. I have no angle. I just couldn't accept what I was feeling, Jaehee," Shit, the first name. This was serious. "You've got to understand. You're one of the only people who knows why I fear women. Why I fear love,"

"So, you thought...."

"Yes," Jaehee didn't have to finish her sentence. Jumin already knew. "Yes, I thought that and I shouldn't of because I know you. You would never. Thank you for staying by my side. Thank you for loving me genuinely even through all my faults. I'm stubborn and cold and yet you still love me. Out of everybody you could have. Out of everybody that has wanted you," Jumin kept smiling at her, his smile growing from nervous to confident as he spoke more and more and as Jaehee listened.

"I could say the same for you," Jaehee said, finding it humorous that Jumin was saying this to her as if she were a goddess herself and was perfect. Almost as if he thought he really didn't deserve her.

"So.... Do you accept?" Jumin asked. Jaehee had a choice to make. She could tease him or be straight forward and the little devil on her shoulder wanted so badly to choose the first choice she had but she decided that he's probably tortured himself enough during the weeks he was contemplating his feelings that he deserved to have a yes.

"Yes. I accept and you better not deny me because of your fears again," She said, making Jumin's nerves dissipate almost immediately. He could kiss her right now but he refrained and instead chose to give her the one promise she asked of him.

"I promise,"
