Be My Wife
Jaehee didn't know how, but she ended up wearing a wedding ring, posing as the wife of Jumin Han. She was curious about where she really was, having never been anywhere too fancy since most places like this was off limits to her for just being an assistant. Now, since everyone thought she was his wife, she had access to literally everything. She didn't think they'd really be able to pull it off because posing as a girlfriend was one thing that she could easily do but a wife? She wasn't sure she'd be able to at first but she slipped into the role just as easily. If Zen knew about their little secret, he'd probably call her almost as good an actor as himself. She realized that, while in thought, she had finished the drink she was given and stood on her tip toes, using Jumin's shoulder as leverage to reach his ear.
"Sweetheart, I'm going to get more drink, okay?" She whispered, using another pet name that seemed to become habit for hers, which she scolded herself for later.
"Hurry back, okay?" Jumin said, not giving mind to the name. Jaehee nodded as she walked away from him. She had been walking for a decent amount of time, lost for a moment before she froze, seeing Jumin's father next to the refreshment table. Jaehee really didn't want to explain why she'd be here to her boss' father so she tried to walk back towards Jumin only for Mr. Chairman to notice her.
"Hey!" He said and Jaehee closed her eyes, praying to God he wasn't calling to her. It was too late as she felt a heavy hand touch her shoulder. "I thought I recognized you. Where's my son?" He asked, knowing that she'd know of all the people here.
"You know he's here?"
"That's the whole reason I came!" He said cheerily. "So I-" He suddenly stopped talking and Jaehee looked up curiously. "My, I didn't know you were married," He said, looking at her ring finger that was now clad with a wedding ring as she still was posing as Jumin's wife. Jumin had a matching one and a thought suddenly occurred to her. I can't let Mr. Han get to Jumin... She let out a quiet sigh as she smiled up at Mr. Chairman.
"I'm not married," She said and he looked at her, confused.
"What kind of ring is that then?"
"An engagement ring," Jaehee said, hoping he would not see right through her lie.
"You're engaged? To who?" He asked and Jaehee looked at the ground.
"If I may, I'd like to keep that a secret,"
"I see," He said and Jaehee was relieved he did not push. Thank God... "You know, you would've been the perfect wife,"
"For who?" Jaehee asked, automatically defensive for if he was trying to flirt with her.
"Calm down, I think of you as the daughter I never had," He said, taking a pause before starting his next sentence. "But unlike a daughter, I had seriously considered you as a wife for my son. Of course, it was for a second before I remembered you would've done no good for the company," He said and Jaehee nodded. She couldn't help but agree with him to some extent. He was right that she would do no good to off and marry Jumin. Especially if it was arranged by Mr. Chairman. It would ruin both thier reputations.
"Of course, sir," Jaehee said. It was quiet for a moment before Mr. Chairman laughed a little.
"Ah, I almost forgot the question I asked earlier. Where is my son again?" He asked and Jaehee froze.
"I have no idea, sir. I had left to get refreshments for as long as this conversation had went on. I had not been keeping tabs on him this whole time, forgive me,"
"That's okay, you were not expected to. Oh well, I'll find my son anyways. I hope that you find him too. Lord knows he can't function long without you," He said and a blush came to Jaehee's cheeks as he walked away. He even noticed Jumin was clingy, huh?
---------------------
"Jumin," Jaehee said as she approached him. He turned to her and smiled.
"Hello. Oh, your glass is still empty. Did something happen?" He observed and Jaehee nodded. Jumin excused himself, leading Jaehee somewhere more private before asking her what it was.
"Your father is here. He has seen my ring," She lifted her left hand to show the ring. "I believe that if he sees you, he might see your matching one and..."
"I see," Jumin said as he heard her grow quieter. "Well, there's no shame in leaving early,"
"Wait," Jaehee said, giving him a questioning look. "Wouldn't it be easier to just take off the ring?"
"And stop being your husband? Never. Besides, talking to my father has somewhat become a chore," Jumin said. She fought some more on how much more pros there were than cons at her stand but Jumin was hard headed and refused each time. They stayed there for what seemed like ages and, honestly, Jaehee was sure many people were starting to get worried. She sighed as she just gave into him, finding it too much trouble to try anymore.
----------------
A week later, Mr. Chairman came into the office, causing an anxious feeling to arise through the whole building as a powerful man walked through the corridors, unscheduled. That meant something was happening that he needed his son to know about. When he finally got to Jumin, he demanded Jaehee come in his office. She knew better than to take too long so she clumsily got from her office chair and stood at full attention to the head.
"Now," He said, pausing to only draw out the tension in the air. "I didn't know that Mrs. Jaehee Han was a thing. When you two left unexpectedly, I asked around to see where you went off to only to find out that Miss. Kang took your last name. To think I had a daughter-in-law I didn't even know about. Why wasn't I, your own father, invited to any wedding?" He asked. A silence was what met him as both Jaehee and Jumin waited for the other to answer. Finally, Jaehee spoke.
"I... I am not his wife, nor have I ever been," She said. "Mr. Han and I have been going to important events and doing random things together as lovers instead of on a professional relationship. I suppose that you could even say we had started doing it for fun. I had been the one to start this mess,"
"Hey!" Jumin said, looking at her with an almost mad expression. "How dare you take the blame for something that I had full control over?" Jumin added and he looked at his father again. "She is not to blame. I had been the one that had agreed and continued to do this relationship change,"
"Let me hear the story of the first occasion and I'll be the judge of that," Mr. Chairman said.
"I believe I should be the one to tell it," Jaehee said. "I had been on the phone with my cousin and she was setting me up on dates, obsessed with getting me a boyfriend. Something about not wanting me to be old and alone. Then, she had heard J- Mr. Han's voice," She stopped herself from saying his name in the presence of his father in fear of angering him. "She had assumed he was my boyfriend and I had said yes. I did not expect her to want to meet him and thus, our story began,"
"You didn't include one thing, Jaehee," Jumin said, growing pale at the use of her name but not missing a beat to continue his sentence. "You forgot to tell him that I had been the one to accept your offer. I was also the one who asked you more times after that to be my girlfriend than you ever asked for me to be your boyfriend. Also, have we forgotten about how I was the one asking her to be my wife, which is when you ultimately found out about our weird habits?" Jumin said, not stopping for any interruptions had there been any. The room was silent before Mr. Chairman spoke again in a deep voice.
"I understand..." He said as Jaehee's blood ran cold. Was this really how my job would end? Because of a stupid decision I had made? Because my boss and I decided that acting as lovers was okay? Mr. Chairman got up from the seat without a word and walked in front of both of them. "You were living vicariously through those pretend lives!" His voice changed and his expression was... Happy?... "You both had wanted a relationship subconsciously so you two had started posing as lovers for the stupidest of reasons!" He was way too overjoyed to match the fear and anxiety that still filled both of thier chests.
"Father.."
"Oh! Quiet you! You are sense when it comes to emotions and so are you apparently," He said. He paused, pretending to think for a moment. "Well, why not date for real? It wouldn't be too much of a change, right?"
-----------
Mr. Chairman was right about that. There really was no change except for being able to truthfully say that thier each other's girlfriend/boyfriend and being able touch and kiss at more places that they weren't able to as pretend lovers. Also, having the RFA know of the confirmed relationship. Nobody gave them trouble but no one was as supportive as V.
"You're too strict," V would say, teasing Jumin about how he could be able to date but they knew it was just friendly banter. V and Jumin were truly still 13 year old best friends. Another change was a lot more C-Hair from Elizabeth the 3rd but Jaehee could live with that, what with knowing almost all the tips and tricks to getting it off clothes from catsitting, which amazed Jumin since his cleaning was done for him most the time. Everything really just fell into place when they started actually dating.
It's almost as if nothing changed. . .
A/N: Part 3 is up and running! End probably but idk! Here you go, I had actually thought I published it last night but I didn't so I'm sorry here!
