Alex and you had always been best friends, and you had been there for Alex every step of the way. The 90's wasn't the best time to be gay, and after Alex's parents disowned their son for coming out, you had taken him in. You had talked to your parents, and they wanted to help Alex too.

You were also friends with the Sunset Curve's other members, but Alex had always been the closest to you. Sometimes, you two would spend hours in the backroom before gigs at small clubs around Los Angeles, just throwing jokes and laughing together. Others joked that you'd choke on their laughter soon if you wouldn't stop, but you just couldn't help it - you always had fun together. There was a reason why you were best friends.

You always received a VIP badge on their gigs if you wanted to have one, and you could bring in your other friends too. You always teased Alex when other guys gave him fond looks, eating your sandwich and smiling slightly, as you'd say "he's cute". Alex always would roll his eyes and hit you lightly on her arm.

"Shut up." He'd say it every time, but unable to hide the blush on his cheeks.

You had spent many nights like this together, and you knew all of Alex's secrets, and vice versa. You would always lean into each other with ups and downs, whenever you wanted to talk to someone.

One day, when the band was having one of their gigs after starting to get more fame, Luke invited you to the stage as Alex stood up from his drums and helped you up. He brought you in the middle of the stage, and you felt slightly uneasy as you saw so many pairs of eyes staring at you.

"Give this awesome, beautiful girl some applause. She has always stood by me, through all the storms and difficulties I've had upon coming to terms with myself. And she has her birthday today!" Alex raised your hand up, and the whole audience clapped and whistled loudly. You felt how you were blushing, but you also felt appreciated and loved in front of everyone, Alex and the whole band showing how much they all cared about you.

That birthday was by far the best you had ever had.
