So if I'm adding a Belafonte song to the Jukebox I have to add this one. And this version with the muppets. It was actually his first time performing this song live... and he chose to do so on the Muppet Show. I thought that was FANTASTIC. They unfortunately cut that part out of the video when he explains that.

Love the Muppets- pre-Disney. I think it's a travesty the way they treated Jim Henson and his crew of puppeteers. A true creative spark went out in the world the day Jim Henson died.

Another interesting thing was a conversation I had with Brian Froud about the same subject. I told him how much I loved the work he had done with Jim and he goes off on this story about how badly they handled the deal.

And then proceeded to tell me a story of how Disney had approached him on working on a live film about Fairies. That they were working on negotiations with the lawyers, everything was all set but they wanted one change. They didn't want him to use the word Fairy, they wanted him to call them Kinders.

If you don't know who Brian Froud he is the leading artist and expert on fairy/fantasy artwork who created movies like Labyrinth, The Dark Crystal and Peter Pan (live film).

Astonished I asked, "Well, what did you say?"

He gave me this huge smile, and said, "F@*% Disney. I haven't gotten this far in my life denying the word Fairy."

I could tell he took great satisfaction in that it killed the project for Disney and he got a little revenge back for Jim, as they were the best of friends.

We both laughed. I was at a Fairy Convention that he held in my home town. We talked so long that there was a line out the door when I turned around, some were not very happy people but I could care less. It was Awesome!

My husband, laughed and said, "Only you, Char could get Brian Froud to tell a story where he curses out Disney." I giggled with glee, I was so happy.
