Over the next few weeks, Sonakshi drowned herself in a sea of sorrow. She woke up every morning in the hope of seeing Rehaan that day, but there was no more information on him than was available the day he had disappeared. Sonakshi roamed around aimlessly at times, sat for hours at the beach where Rehaan had first kissed her, she even visited his beach house in the hope that he might pay a secret visit there. She would sit around in his music room and caress his guitar with her fingers, listen to his CDs, play some of the other instruments, sing songs for him, in the hope that one day her voice would strike a chord in his heart somewhere and bring him back. She had stopped going to college for her Master's program. Asha and Samaira were extremely worried about Sonakshi's health and well-being.
Bijoy kept a hawk eye on her, and would let her leave home only if she was going to college, little did he know that she had not showed up for any of her classes lately. She barely slept at night, and many a times would sit at the edge of the window and gaze at the moon all night, as Rehaan's words echoed in her thoughts, "jab main tumhare paas nahin hoon toh uss moon ko dekh lena, samajh lena main tumhe dekh raha hoon."
Samaira spoke to Prithvi on the phone, but was disappointed to find no new information. He denied ever having another brother. She even went to meet Ishwari one day, but she just ridiculed such an absurd idea. Samaira tried her best to contact dadi and Iqbal, but reportedly they had both gone to Haj for a pilgrimage.
Dev and Samaira's friendship became stronger by the day; they went out for lunch and meetings together most of the time. Dev never told her about his weird dreams though. His dreams had become more and more disturbing lately; he was usually distractible and could barely function properly in the day time either. Samaira knew something was going on with him; she decided to be his support rather than probe too much- she was confident that he would tell her what was bothering him when the time came.
Ishwari had organized several pujas and havans to ward off any black magic on her son. She knew Dev was behaving weirdly these days; she had seen this behavior in the past, and it was only after numerous pujas, fasts and havans that he had 'recovered' from this 'black magic' in the past. Little did she know that it was Vicky/Iqbal who had found the 'cure' for Dev's plight, and not her puja-paath.
FLASHBACK: (here are the answers to all your confusions)
27 YEARS AGO:
Ishwari had just been married into the Dixit family. The Dixit's were a well to do business family with two sons, the older Jay and younger, Vijay. Vijay had left for the US in his early 20s, so it was Jay, who took care of the business and household in Mumbai. Ishwari came from an extremely religious and conservative Hindu family. Jay's family was more liberal and secular in their beliefs. Jay's father had an old time Muslim associate, who had died in a car crash. Jay's father had then given shelter to his Muslim associate's wife, Fareeda. Fareeda had soon become an important member of the family. As Jay's mother had passed away when Jay was still young, Fareeda became a mother-like figure to Jay and his brother. Jay even addressed her as "Dai-ammi"
Fareeda had no kids, nor did she have a big family. She had a nephew Iqbal, born to her brother 3 years before Ishwari came to the house as a bride. Iqbal's parents had gone over to Saudi Arabia to earn some money, and left Iqbal with his phoophi, Fareeda. Jay had no objection and loved Iqbal like his son. Unfortunately, Iqbal's parents died in a bombing while in Saudi Arabia, so Iqbal now had his phoophi and Jay's family only as his sole support.
Ishwari never approved of a Muslim lady in the house. From the first day itself, she insisted on moving Fareeda and Iqbal to the outhouse so they would not 'contaminate' her 'pavitra' house. Jay was heartbroken, but soon realized that if he wanted peace at home; he would have to give in to Ishwari's wishes. Jay soon became very busy with his business and was unaware of the atrocities Ishwari committed on Iqbal and Fareeda.
When Dev was born two years after their marriage, Ishwari had become ill with Typhoid and then with severe anaemia. She was bed ridden for almost a year, during which period Fareeda assumed full care of Dev, just as a grandparent would. Dev's first words were "dadi," and were addressed to Fareeda. Dev soon became very close to his 'dadi.' Ishwari could not stand this one bit. As soon as her second son, Prithvi was born two years later, she started accusing Fareeda of doing 'black magic' on her sons and being ill-fated for the family. She got ample support from her coterie of pundits, astrologers and numerologists!
When Dev was barely 3 years old, everyone noticed that he had an unusual talent in music. He sang very melodiously and would be mesmerized whenever music was playing anywhere. Fareeda, herself was trained in classical music. She started teaching him the initial notes of music and would sing to him constantly.
Ishwari burned with jealousy whenever she saw her boy sitting on Fareeda's lap and singing the sargam or some song. Dev would convert any piece of furniture or utensil into an instrument and play it with the right beat as he sang to himself. Friends and relatives encouraged Ishwari to teach formal music to their gifted son. Ishwari, of course started hating anything related to Fareeda or music and soon banned any music from her household.
One day, when Dev was about 4 years old, Ishwari and Fareeda had a major showdown. Ishwari hurled major abuses on Fareeda and kicked her out of the house and outhouse. Dev witnessed the whole scenario and his tender heart was scarred forever after that. His beloved 'dadi' was physically and mentally tortured by his mother in front of his own eyes.
Jay was very apologetic and moved Fareeda and Iqbal to a beach house of his, which Ishwari was unaware about. Fareeda started a new life with her nephew there, but Ishwari soon found out about her whereabouts and threatened to 'harm' Iqbal if she stayed in their beach house. Fareeda left the beach house too, but kept the keys to the house with her as Jay had wanted.
Little Dev went into a state of depression soon after his 'dadi' and 'Iqbal bhai' left. Prithvi was still too young to know what was going on, and soon became the spoilt brat in the family thanks to Ishwari's pampering. Ishwari did several pujas for her older son and 'brainwashed' him against music and 'dadi.' Everyone thought that Dev was just a quiet child, who kept to himself and had very few friends, and NEVER SMILED! Dev's little mind blocked all his traumatic memories of dadi, music and his mom's torture. As is usually the case, he soon became 'amnesic' for all the traumatic events in his life. He became like a little lamb, who followed and obeyed his mother every where. His teachers loved him as he was very well behaved; he never argued with anyone, never fought with other boys; just buried himself in books and computers behind his thick glasses.
One day, when he was about 11 or 12 years old, he was at a friend's birthday party in a middle class neighborhood in town. His friend happened to be a neighbor of Fareeda and Iqbal. As usual, Dev was bored at the party, and decided to walk out into the balcony for some air. As he was standing and observing people go by, he heard a melodious voice from the neighborhood. The voice was rich, sweet and reminded him of someone. He went into a trance and started walking towards the voice. No one noticed him walk out of the flat and leave the party.
Dev's footsteps and ears took him to the doorstep of the woman singing the song. He was mesmerized, almost in a hypnotic state. Dev walked through the ajar door and stood in front of the lady- it was Fareeda!
Fareeda was shocked. It had been years since she had seen Dev, but she recognized him instantly as he was a famous business man's son and their pictures were often seen in the papers and magazines. Dev did not recognize his dadi as his mind had already blocked all memories of her since he was 4 years old. Although, his mind and eyes did not recognize her, his heart recognized her instantly. Iqbal, who was a 16 year old teenager came up and recognized his friend, Dev. Iqbal had a friend's guitar in his hand. Dev looked at Iqbal and took the guitar from him. Dadi and Iqbal just stared at Dev as he started humming and strumming the strings. Soon, he was playing a melodious tune.
Dadi and Iqbal were surprised to see Dev's expression change from a meek little shy boy to a confident and friendly boy once he started playing the guitar. The notes just flowed effortlessly. Next, he started singing a song with the music. Dadi joined in too.

Iqbal joined in too as the three of them had a blast clapping, singing and dancing together. Dev had never been happier in his life.
After they were all exhausted, dadi smiled, "kaisa hai tu Dev?"
Dev had a puzzled look on his face, "Dev? Wo kaun hai? Main toh Rehaan hoon....Rehaan Ahmed.....future rock star of this country!"
That is how Rehaan was born!
Dev's mind had split into two- he had developed two distinct personalities- Dev Dixit, the shy, obedient, punctual, type A personality boy and Rehaan Ahmed, a total opposite of Dev- unpredictable, moody, garrulous, outgoing, talented singer and guitarist!
Iqbal and dadi soon recognized that Dev needed to be Rehaan in order to stay 'sane' They still cared for Jay and Dev, and decided to encourage Rehaan's existence by giving him the opportunity to learn formal music and display his talent in front of the world. To everyone's surprise, the birth of Rehaan helped Dev become a more 'normal' person too. He continued to be studious and hard working, but became less shy and less withdrawn and LEARNT TO SMILE! Rehaan was Dev's therapy, he was his outlet, his subconscious or alter ego which yearned to have it's own independent existence. Of course, both Rehaan and Dev were unaware of each other. Iqbal and dadi took him to various doctors too, who diagnosed him with "Multiple Personality Disorder"
The doctors tried hard to 'cure' him, but soon gave up as it seemed both Rehaan and Dev had learnt to co-exist with each other happily without interfering in each other's life. Iqbal soon became Vicky and became Dev's best buddy and confidant. Vicky impressed the Dixit's and convinced them that his companionship was important for Dev's well-being.
Vicky/Iqbal soon learnt the 'art' of hypnosis and could switch Dev into Rehaan and vice versa with the help of hypnosis. He used music and power of suggestion to alter Dev/Rehaan's personality depending on the circumstances. Iqbal/Vicky would change his Dev/Rehaan's get up, his clothes, place or remove the artificial tattoo from his body based on who he was. Vicky/Iqbal basically became his body guard and hovered around his friend all the time. Ishwari and Jay would be oblivious of this, as Dev usually came home after work and 'retired' in his room. Vicky/Iqbal managed to get keys and access to Dev's rooms upstairs and was usually successful in disguising his friend before any concerts or performances. There were times when something unexpected came up, then Rehaan would just not turn up for his performances. Rehaan had become famous for his moodiness and unpredictability, but his talent and enthusiasm on the stage more than made up for his unprofessionalism.
Vicky/Iqbal met Razia at work, who had converted to 'Elena' for employment purposes. Soon, they became close to each other and she was the only other person besides dadi who knew the truth behind Rehaan and Dev.
Fareeda gave the keys of the beach house to Rehaan. Rehaan loved his secret hide out and rehearsed his music whenever he was there. Dadi preferred to stay away from the beach house, as it reminded her of the painful days with Ishwari.
Rehaan became famous as a 'dreamer' who lived in his own world. He was known to be forgetful and lost most phone numbers, addresses, phones, jackets easily. He sometimes remembered events which took place in Dev's life as his 'dreams.' Vicky/Iqbal had to cover for Rehaan's absent mindedness at most places. Rehaan learnt to live in the moment, just as Dev lived for 'tomorrow.' Dev learnt the art of meditation and yoga after he started getting unusually tired and exhausted after Rehaan's late night concerts. There were times when Iqbal felt guilty and stopped hypnotizing Dev into Rehaan, but would revert back as soon as he saw the effect on Dev- Dev would become very depressed and irritable when Rehaan was 'not in his life.'
******************************
So, this is the mystery behind Rehaan and Dev's co existence! To date, everything was going smooth until the twins Sonakshi and Samaira entered their lives.
Rehaan, of course as we all know fell for Sonakshi and her eyes, the first time he met her. What about Dev? For whom does his heart beat for? Can a person with a split mind also have a split heart? Whom does he really love? Sonakshi or Samaira?????????????
Precap- Devakshi meet🔥🔥🔥
