Seungmin was sitting by the comm system when they heard Wooyoung's voice come through.
"Hey, I need you guys to look for Saem. Kyungsoon, can you give them a description of what he looks like?"
"Oh no you don't—you don't have to—"
"Kyungsoon, just tell them."
Seungmin waited patiently, beckoning for Jeongin to pull up the security cameras.
"He's only eight. He and I wore matching homemade Ateez shirts...they're black with the members names written on the back with glitter. The front has a painting I did of the ship from the Illusion music video."
Seungmin could hear her voice wavering in embarrassment having to talk about it in front of the Ateez members. He was sure the members on the other end were praising her talent.
But he quickly joined Jeongin by the computer, scrolling through the different cameras. Room by room, they scanned, marking down which rooms had survivors and checking each face for a little boy.
It wasn't until they got to the concession stand that they caught sight of a little boy, his body tucked in on itself under the counter. A few others surrounded him, all huddled together. With a gasp, Seungmin realized the concession stand was still open, zombies walking through it freely.
They were trapped.
If one of them moved a single muscle...
All of them would be in danger.
How long had they been hiding like that?
"Did you find him??" Wooyoung asked and Seungmin didn't know how to respond.
Seonghwa approached the mic, having been watching over Seungmin's shoulder.
"Yes. He's okay. We're going to save him. He's close to us. But we might have to go before 10."
Kyungsoon stood, rushing towards the mic.
"Why?? Is he in danger?? Where is he? Let me help!"
"It's safe for now but the doors don't look sturdy," Seonghwa lied, wanting her to be aware of the situation without breaking her heart.
He heard tears on the other end and couldn't tell if it was of joy or fear.
"We'll save him, okay?"
"Okay. Okay," she said as she regained her composure.
Seonghwa stepped back and turned off the comm, walking over to the camera feed.
It was going to be incredibly dangerous.
He turned to check the clock, seeing that it was already 8. They needed to get to them as fast as possible.
"Why don't you read over the list of any survivors on the south side of the building so they know where to go and then we'll grab our artillery and head over to the concessions stand?" Seonghwa asked Seungmin who moved to start reading out the names to the others.
As Seonghwa made his way over to the closet of weapons, Minho grabbed his arm, stopping him.
"What about Han?"
Seonghwa's eyes widened.
"Minho—I'm sorry I—"
"If we go to the concessions stand, there's no way we'll have time to go all the way back to the dressing room."
Seonghwa held his head, trying to find a solution.
"What if—if we—"
"There's no way we can do both."
Seonghwa looked at him with tears in his eyes.
"I'm sorry..."
Minho turned, storming over to the security cameras.
"Minho!"
"Maybe he got closer," he said under his breath, his eyes desperately searching the feeds for any sign of him.
Seonghwa didn't know what to do. He hadn't meant to leave Jisung out of the escape plan. He hadn't even forgotten. He'd just...he kept taking on as many cases as he could that...he'd overloaded himself.
He couldn't do both.
"Shit. Shit!"
Seonghwa spun around as Minho stood, moving past him to the weapons behind him.
"What? What is it?" Seonghwa asked.
"He's gone. I don't know where he is. I can't find him anywhere. He might be on the move—I have to go find him."
Seonghwa checked the clock again. 8:20.
"Let me come with you. Then we'll all head back and go look for Saem."
"No. There's no time. I'll find Jisung."
Minho pulled on his weaponry, strapping everything he could find onto his body.
"Minho! You're injured! You can't go alone!" Seungmin protested, standing and walking towards him.
"I'm fine. I'll take care of myself. Don't worry about me, I'm going to save him."
Jeongin shook his head, moving to stand in front of the door.
"I won't let you," he protested, his eyes watering.
"Jeongin, I'll shoot if I have to."
Everyone froze as Minho drew his shotgun, pointing it at Jeongin's leg.
Seungmin raced to stand in front of him.
"Minho! Have you lost your fucking mind!?" Seungmin screamed, his eyes wide.
"Please. Just move. And no one gets hurt. I'm going to find him. Please. Just let me go."
Jeongin pulled on Seungmin's arm, his eyes pleading.
"Min, please. Don't do anything stupid. Let him go."
Seungmin's eyes filled with tears.
"Minho...we can't do this without you."
Minho's hand shook as he held the gun but he placed his other hand on top to steady it.
"Yes, you can. You made it here all by yourselves. You're better off without me. I'm the one who keeps getting everyone else killed. This is the one time I can prevent that. Let me help him. Please."
Seonghwa nodded at Seungmin, pleading for him to move. He didn't want anyone else getting hurt. Minho wasn't going to budge.
Jeongin took Seungmin's hand and pulled him aside, clearing the way and Minho ran forward, racing out the door and down the hallway.
Seungmin fell to the ground, sobbing. Jeongin joined him, and the two held each other.
Seonghwa didn't know what to do. How to help. How to fix everything. He didn't even know how the hell they were going to save the people in the concessions stand.
All he knew was they had to do something. Fast. Or all of this was worth nothing.
What was the point of arranging a rescue if they weren't going to follow through?
"Minho will be fine. I just know it. He needs us to do our part. We need to go help them."
Seonghwa went to grab weapons for everyone as Jeongin stumbled over to the door to hold back the zombies that had been attracted to the loud noises.
Seungmin stood, drying his eyes as he walked over to Seonghwa. He grabbed his own weapons and a set for Jeongin. As he turned, Seonghwa put a hand on his shoulder, looking him in the eye.
"Protect him. He and I will focus on the zombies. You focus on him. Don't let anything happen to him, okay?"
Seungmin nodded, his expression serious.
"I won't."
Seonghwa nodded, letting his hand rest on his shoulder a little longer.
"Hey. You two have already been through so much. I need you to know just how brave you are. I know...if Chan was still here, he'd be so proud."
Seungmin felt tears forming in his eyes but he blinked them away, nodding firmly.
"I think so, too," he smiled and Seonghwa pulled him to his chest in a tight hug.
"I know we didn't get a chance to meet much before now but I really care about you two. You're so special. I mean it. And I'll do everything in my power to get you out of here. So will Minho. We're all leaving this place together, okay?"
Seungmin held onto Seonghwa tightly, nodding his head.
Seonghwa smiled, loosening his grip as Seungmin grabbed all of his weapons and moved to help Jeongin strap on his ammo.
Seonghwa felt his hands trembling as he envisioned the night ahead of them.
It wouldn't be easy.
It probably wouldn't even be successful.
But they had to try.
And maybe—just maybe, they might finally get the hell out of there.
