Chapter 3
Samantha was seated in her living room one afternoon when her kids came in after playing in the front yard.
She smiled at them but soon realised they both were very upset.
"What's wrong?" Asked Samantha.
"Mom can we stay at dad's. We don't like it here." Said Samuel.
"You don't want to stay with me?" Asked Samantha.
"We don't what to stay in this neighborhood. No one plays with us" said Suzanne.
"Why not?" Asked Samantha.
Both the kids looked at eachother and stood up and ran away to their room without answering her.
Samantha was confused and she stood up and looked outside and saw two kids looking at her house.
She smiled at them from her window and they ran away.
She didn't understand what was happening and went up the stairs to talk to her kids.
She looked inside Samuel's room and heard them talking.
"We can't tell mom what the kids were talking about her. We know she is not that bad" said Samuel.
"I love our mom. She is not a bad women" said Suzanne.
Samantha had tears in her eyes and listening to the kids.
She wiped her tears and walked in the room and smiled at them.
She took a chair and sat in front of them and asked "so, you want to stay with your father?"
Both the kids looked at eachother and then at Samantha and said "no mom. We want to stay with you".
She smiled and said "I want you both to stay with me for some time. After that I promise you can stay with your father"
"Why?" Asked Samuel.
"I can't tell you why now. But I promise you will soon know" said Samantha and continued "and please remember who I am to you. How I love you and how I cherish you. I don't care what anyone says about me. For me, no one matters more than you both. Tell me, do you trust me?"
Both the kids got up form their pal e and hugged Samantha and said "we love you mom. And yes, we trust you"
Samantha hugged her children and shed tears.
She didn't have the strength to fight the people who didn't matter anything in her life. She had her children close to her and she didn't care about anyone's opinion as far as her children trusted her.
"Thank god the kids have a wonderful father who takes them every weekend away from her" said Estella looking at Samantha's husband leaving with the kids.
The ladies stood there looking at Samantha as she waved good bye to her kids.
Rosalyn noticed Samantha had tears in her eyes while sending her kids away today.
"Why is she crying?" Asked Rosalyn.
"Please tell me the father got some sense and talking the kids away from this awful women" said Estella.
"I even prayed in church for the welbeing of her children. I prayed she stays away form her children and the children have a proper upbringing like our children do and grow up as respectable citizens as us" said Emma.
"Bless your heart" said another women standing with them.
"I can't help. I just can't see anything wrong happening around me" said Emma.
Samantha waved her kids goodbye in tears and after the kids left she looked at the women and just stared at them for a while.
All the women looked at her and no one moved their eyes away from her.
Samantha wondered if any of the women could see the pain she was going through. They were women just like her. They were humans, just like her. Then why are they looking at her like she didn't belong here. Why didn't they give time to know her?
Samantha could see their soulless eyes and knew they were a society which was moulded to fit only few people who fit in their made up moulds. If any person didn't fit, they were eliminated.
Samantha looked away and walked in the house.
"God, I felt a shiver run down my spine when she looked at me" said one of the women.
"She can't scare us. She is wrong. We are correct. We follow all the rules a good person in society should follow" said Emma.
At night Rosalyn looked out her window and saw a car drive in Samantha's drive way.
The man rushed in her house.
Rosalyn called a three way call to Emma and Estella and said "someone is in a hurry" and all three laughed.
"Oh, look. The other guy has come too" said Rosalyn.
"Oh, god. This is sick. Two men in one time" said Emma.
And then to everyone's shock an ambulance drives in and the peramedic rush in Samantha's house.
"What's going on" asked Emma.
"Don't know" said Rosalyn.
All the neighborhood stood outside Samantha's house and waited to know what was happening.
The three women stood together and saw Samantha's husband drive in with her children.
Then they heard the children shout for Samantha.
All stood still when they saw Samantha brought out in a closed bag on a stretcher.
Samantha was dead.
The kids were screaming for their mother and Samantha's husband was holding Samuel and the man who visited Samantha often held the crying Suzanne.
All three women looked at eachother and wanted to know what happened.
