{Orcs and Swords}

"How long till we get there, Uncle?" Kili asked.

"I don't know, but we should get there about tomorrow evening." Thorin sighed. Kili nodded and kept walking.

"Are you getting tired, brother?" Fili studied his younger sibling.

Kili was getting tired, but he would never say so, so he simply answered, "No."

We'll ride for another hour, then we will rest." Thorin said.

Fili raised an eyebrow, "Are you sure?"

"Yup." Kili persisted.

"Okay..."

An hour later, they stopped at a nearby stream. Fili leaned down and scooped up some water with his hands. He drank some before splashing the rest across his sweaty face.

"Dismount and set up camp." Thorin looked at the rising moon. "Fili." Thorin said. "Take the first watch."

Fili nodded and began to set up camp. He turned to look at Kili, "Go get some fire wood while I help Uncle set up camp, Kili."

"Bring your sword and the axe when you go. Be careful and stay alert." Thorin put his hand on Kili's shoulder then said, "Don't take risks." Then Thorin let him go. Kili nodded and left the camp, setting out for the forest.

Thorin and Fili finished setting up camp, and Thorin started making the food.

A cry erupted from the forest in the direction Kili had gone. Fili instantly looked towards where it had come from. He recognized the voice, Kili! Grabbing his weapons, Fili raced to find his brother. "Kili!" Thorin picked up his sword followed Fili.

Kili had been chopping down a young tree when an Orc arrow had shot out of nowhere, it seemed, and embedded itself in Kili's right arm. He had cried out in pain and dropped the axe he was wielding. Kili turned around and had unsheathed his sword with his left hand.

What his eyes saw dismayed him. About thirteen Orcs stood before him. Four of them had bows, and the rest had wicked looking swords. Kili took a deep breath. He knew he was at a disadvantage, but he held his ground. The Orcs began to walk towards Kili.

Just then, Fili burst through the tree line and charged them.

From the opposite end, Thorin charged the archers. He was in such a rage. 'They hurt Kili, so now they die.' Thorin thought to himself.

Kili saw Thorin and Fili and breathed in relief. Then, he himself charged the Orcs. The Orcs were confused by the attack from other sides and scattered. An Orc realized that he and his comrades had no chance of escaping if that dwarf scum kept slaying them. He decided he needed to do something. The Orc pulled his bow out and aimed it at Thorin. He released the arrow, missing his mark, but still getting the dwarf in the calf. He grinned and bellowed when he saw Thorin stumble and fall. Then, he started running away again.

Fili glanced over to see Thorin on the ground, clutching his leg, "Uncle!" He shouted. Fili battled his way over to Thorin.

Thorin lay there panting. The pain was almost unbearable. "I'm fine. Finish killing the scums, then help me to the camp." Thorin gasped again.

Kili saw Thorin on the ground and charged after the Orc-filth that had done this. He caught up with the Orc and promptly beheaded him. Fili obeyed and helped his brother slaughter the foolish orcs.

Once the Orcs were all slain, Kili walked over to the pond and sat down next to it. He gritted his teeth and yanked the arrow out. An involuntary cry escaped Kili's lips. He then ripped off a price of his tunic and rinsed his wound in the pond. He took his arm out of the pond and bound it tightly with the piece of fabric.

Fili helped Thorin get comfortable before hurrying over to his brother. He bent down near Kili, "Here, let me help you." He offered.

"I'm fine." Kili denied.

Fili gently pulled Kili's fingers from his arm and finished tying it himself, "No, you're not."

"Yes, I am." Kili persisted and yanked his arm away from Fili. He cried out in pain and slumped. "Alright." He frowned and let Fili at his wound.

Thorin pulled the arrow out of his calf, grunting at the pain. He too ripped off a piece of his tunic, and started to clean the wound.

Fili noticed and glanced towards him, "Do you need help, Uncle?"

Thorin grunted. "I'm fine. Take care of your brother." Fili slightly nodded and finished splashing some cool water on the wound. Kili winced as the cold water touched the wound.

Fili muttered a 'sorry' and finished tending to the arrow wound. By then, Thorin had wrapped up his wound, and had stood up, leaning up against the tree for support.

Kili noticed Thorin and said to Fili, "Go take care of Uncle. He needs it more that I do." He told him.

Fili nodded and stood up, "Uncle," Fili scolded, "You need to rest."

"No. We need to get back to our camp. Then we can rest." Thorin started limping back to camp. Fili hurried over and helped support the dwarf.

"Uncle." Kili began, "You need water to cleanse the wound. Allow Fili to help."

Thorin scowled. "I will clean it better when we get back to camp." He said finalizing the statement.

"Uncle..." Kili began.

"Kili! Enough! I am fine and I will clean it when we get back to the camp. That is enough of this now." He sighed. Kili looked at Thorin skeptically, but said nothing more, and walked back to their camp.
