Chapter Thirteen

"God, she's dramatic; Don't you think?", Set suddenly asked Andrew after he pulled his eyes away from the closed doors, "But all females seem to be that way, can't be helped.", he shrugged.

He looked around to face the teenager boy, "Well, we are facing dark times it seems, she just wants me to be careful.", He said before frowning at him, "And no, not all females are dramatic. There's no reason to be rude.
You need to show a little more respect."

Set rolled his eyes, "Chill man, it's not like I just insulted her. Plus you're not my dad or anything, so don't go telling me what to do, okay?
You respect me, I'll respect you, it's a deal."

Andrew's frown deepened further for a minute before he held out the mask in his hand, mentally pushing away his frustration, "Here, this should help you find Diverion and Cassandra, this mask belonged to him.", he informed.

He watched as Set took it and looked it over.

He hoped that however long he'd be stuck with this kid, it wouldn't be unbearable or strain his patience.

He almost felt like he had already had enough of him.

But he was willing to deal with this new teenager if he could help him find and reunite with Cass. Even if he seemed to have an annoying attitude already...

He just hoped that wherever Cassandra was, she was somewhere safe and not stuck in some kind of horrible limbo where demons and humans thrived between the two worlds.
Or possibly dumped in the middle of a poisonous volcanic environment, or an ocean or The Forest of no Return or five hundred other places of peril where she could get wounded or killed.

"Thanks, this should help!", Set said, breaking his worry, "I should be able to track that demon down easily now I have something like this."

"Okay, that's good news... but how are you going to use it to track them down?", he asked intrigued, "More of your magic?"

"I already told you it's not magic, not necessarily."

"Then would you care to explain what it exactly is then?"

The younger male smiled, "It's really complicated to even try to explain Andrew, it took me several years to even start understanding what I was being taught back then.
And even now, I'm still learning and understanding what I harness.
I doubt that I can make you see what it is in one lecture; even if you worked in the dark arts in the past.", he added in narrowing his eyes slightly, "But all that matters here to you is I can track Diverion's residual energy off an object that holds great importance to him or is always on him. In this case, I got both. This mask was kept on him presumably most of the time while it held utmost importance to him as well."

Andrew raised both eyebrows, "Complicated huh? I'm sure I could understand it just fine if you told me, right now you explained a common rule in tracking spells which is one of the easiest concepts to learn in magic.
The only difference here is that you're supposedly not using magic to initiate the spell."

"And that's the complicated bit I'm not going to go into.", Set said rolling his eyes, "Now be quiet for a minute and let me focus."

Andrew bit his tongue to stop his response as Set focused on the mask.

He should let him do what was needed, even if he didn't understand it.

He watched curiously as Set started to chant quietly in a soft tone, making the boy and the mask glow a subtle golden color.

As he chanted further, the glow slowly gained more intensity, until it and Set were coated in bright warm golden light.

He had to squint to even continue try watching the magic that was at work, but just as he was getting used to it, Set ended the spell.

Looking a bit tired, the teen smiled, "I've got him.", he said tightening his grip on Diverion's mask, "And most likely your girlfriend's location as well."

"That's great!! Where are they?!", he practically shouted as excitement burst through him.

"South."

Andrew stared at him, "South. That.., That.. doesn't tell us what place they're in...", he said frustrated, "Could you please be more specific?"

Set shook his head, "That's as specific as we'll get for now. They're both pretty far away from here, so I only know they're in that general direction.
When we start getting closer it'll be a lot easier to pin down their exact location."

"I thought you said you had them!"

"And I do.", the teen fired back miffed, "But like I said, we'll just have to go that way for now until we're closer.
I have a feeling though that they're beyond the seven kingdoms and are in the Unknown Continent..."

Andrew swore under his breath before pacing around.

Great. Just what he needed.
Cassandra in the Unknown Continent... the most dangerous place, possibly ever.

The place where travelers and adventurers had gone in and had never come out. All except for one guy 20 years ago, who had been insane and died shortly after speaking nonsense to his last breath.

The whole place was riddled with mystery, curses and death.

How was Cassandra and Diverion supposed to survive a place like that?? And if they did... would they both be mentally lost forever?!

Andrew felt his heart quicken as he stared into the horizon southward, knowing, or rather not knowing, what lay waiting ahead for him.

He felt Set's questioning eyes on him as he went over behind him, "So... yeah, what do you want to do?"

Andrew felt courage flow through him at the teen's words. A determination that replaced all the doubt and fear.

"It doesn't change anything. I'm still going after her even if she's in the Unknown Continent.", he said straightening, "What else did you think I'd do?"

Set shrugged, "I dunno. Just thought you'd chicken out man.", he smiled, "Guess you got more guts then meets the eye huh?"

"I'm willing to do whatever it takes to help Cassandra kid, I promised her I'd help her. So I'm not abandoning her now."

"So help me, if you say 'love always finds a way', I'll barf.", Set complained wrinkling his nose.

Andrew grinned, letting out a small laugh, "I wasn't planning on it kid." He then turned and motioned for Set to follow him, "Now, I need your help getting the horses attached back on the caraloon."

"The what?"

"Caraloon. It's a caravan hot air balloon, I invented it.", he explained proudly, "Pretty good name for it, am I right?"

Set rolled his eyes, "Yeah, that's a big no."

Andrew sighed, "Not you too."

"Why don't you just focus on finding your girlfriend... you're bad at naming stuff."
