CHAPTER 12- A chance meeting

(A/N)Sorry if I don't post that often. I'm so busy with school that it's hard to even get a chapter posted :( Anyway, are you ready for more Mothpaw and Swiftpaw? I hope so!(thats Mothpaw in the picture!)

"Hey, Hazelflight!"
The sleeping tortoiseshell felt something small and wet bump her shoulder. With a prolonged yawn, the warrior slowly opened her eyes. A hazy black and white blob sat infront of her, mewing pitifully.

"Muhh... Who is it?" Hazelflight mumbled.

"It's me, Mothpaw!" The apprentice whispered softly. "I wanted to see if you and Lionfang were ready to take me and Swiftpaw around the borders!"

"Mothpaw!" The warrior shot up out of her nest. Apprentices weren't supposed to be in the warriors den. Hazelflight wondered how Mothpaw was even able to sneak into the warriors den without another warrior noticing her!

"Swiftpaw's over there." The black and white cat mewed, nodding towards a small shape standing at the entrance.

"You're not supposed to be in here!" Hazelflight hissed. The apprentice stared up at her with oblivious eyes.
Well, I can't blame her.
I would have done the same thing as an apprentice!

With a sigh, the warrior turned towards Lionfang's sleeping form. "I'll wake Lionfang up. You two go back outside and stay there, got it?"

With a brisk nod, the apprentice dashed out of the den, Swiftpaw on her heels. With an annoyed grunt, Hazelflight pawed at her friend. "Wake up, Lionfang." The huge sandy warrior mumbled incoherently, her eyes fluttering open.

"Mmm, what?" Lionfang yawned.

"Our apprentices want us to show them around." The tortoiseshell whispered.

"Until the sunrise, they're your apprentices."

"Lionfang," Hazelflight giggled softly. "That's not how it works." With a groan, the large warrior lifted herself from her nest. Shaking the scraps of moss from her fur, Lionfang slowly stretched her stiff limbs before casting her friend a humorous look.

"By StarClan, why did these apprentices have to be so hyper!" Lionfang purred. "It's not even sunhigh yet!" The warrior was right. The moon barely skimmed the horizon, teasing the mountain peaks with it's silvery glow. On the other side of the sky, the sun's golden light was barely visible, casting the forest in a blanket of thin shadows. It was a beautiful sight, one that brought warm memories of her own apprentice-hood back to Hazelflight.

"Sadly, I don't know." Hazelflight mewed with amusement. "Maybe they'll calm down after the first few days."

"That's still a few days of sleep lost..." Lionfang mumbled. Giving her friend a playful swipe on the ear, Hazelflight nodded towards the exit. The two crept out of the den, breathing a much needed sigh of relief as they leapt out into the center of camp. Swiftpaw and Mothpaw sat patiently sharing tongues, their small bodies half-hidden by the jagged rocks.

"There you are!" Mothpaw gasped. She and Swiftpaw jumped up and bolted towards the warriors, nearly crashing into the two.

"We're ready!" Swiftpaw said, his voice tinged with excitement.

"That's good," Lionfang purred, giving her apprentice a friendly lick on the ear. "But next time-"

"Next time don't get up so early." Hazelflight laughed. "We need our sleep."

"Sorry..." Mothpaw gazed down at her paws. "We were both just really-"

"Excited?" The tortoiseshell purred. "I know. We were like that to, right Lionfang?" The sandy she-cat just rolled her eyes in response.

"So, can we go?" Swiftpaw mewed impatiently. With a nod, Hazelflight motioned the apprentices to follow her and Lionfang. The four bounded out of the camp entrance, their blurry bodies disappearing into the shadowy forest.

"So is this the border?"

"No, Mothpaw, that's a rock."
The tortoiseshell warrior sighed, flattening her ears against her head. Her apprentice had been questioning every rock and twig in the forest, asking impatiently if 'this is the border'.

"Patient, kit." Lionfang yawned. "We're almost there." With an enthusiastic nod, the apprentice slowed her bound to a slow jog.

"This is so cool!" Swiftpaw mewed, his blue eyes wide with wonder.

"Yeah, it's pretty sweet." His mentor replied. "Personally, I think we have the best territory out of all the Clans!"

"I agree!" Mothpaw puffed out her chest with pride.

"Well, let's not get ahead of ourselves," Swiftpaw meowed, flicking his ears.

"Are you saying that the other Clans are better than us?" Mothpaw let out a mock growl. "TRAITOR!" Without warning, she jumped onto Swiftpaw's back and began to kick him softly, letting out squeals of amusement. Swiftpaw jumped back and forth, trying to shake the apprentice off his back. Mothpaw flew from the tabby's back, and hit a boulder a few fox-lengths away.

"Well, would you look at that." Hazelflight purred. "Mothpaw found the border!" With an annoyed huff, the black and white apprentice quickly shook the dust from her long coat and began to sniff the boulder. Hazelflight stifled a laugh-she appreciated Mothpaw's endless enthusiasam, but couldn't help but feel a little worried that the apprentices temperment would get her into trouble.

"I smell...something..." Mothpaw's amber eyes narrowed in concentration as she pawed around the grassy ground.

"We're lucky," Hazelflight trotted up to her apprentice. "This is ShadeClan's border, and it's the only Clan we share a border with."

"Then what's the rest of the border made up of?" Swiftpaw asked, his voice tinged with curiosity.

"A Thunderpath surrounds the rest." Lionfang responded, wrapping her tail affectionately around Swiftpaw.

"Can we go see it?" Mothpaw's eyes lit up at the prospect of seeing the infamous Thunderpath.

"Not yet." Hazelflight sighed, giving her apprentices ear a quick lick. "You're still too young." Motioning towards the direction of the camp,Hazelflight yawned. "Let's go back to camp. I want to start your fighting training today, and maybe do some-"

"Hazelflight?"
A small, silver she-cat slipped from the bushes, her eyes fixed on the two apprentices.

"She smells like ShadeClan!" Mothpaw hissed, unsheathing her claws. She slunk towards the she-cat, barely reaching the edge of the border.

"Mothpaw, leave her alone." Hazelflight hissed, stepping in between the two cats. Mothpaw flattened her ears against her head, but said nothing.
"Minnowpaw isn't going to hurt us." Worry flooded through the tortishell's paws. Mothpaw seemed hostile towards the young cat, and Hazelflight worried that she might do something rash, like insult Minnowpaw.
Or worse.

"How are you so sure?" Mothpaw growled. "Besides, she's too close to the border!"

"Minnowpaw helped save Icepaw." Hazelflight tried to keep her voice steady, but she could hear anger seeping into her tone.

"It's actually Minnowsplash now." The ShadeClan warrior mewed abashedly.

"You got your warrior name!" Hazelflight purred affectionately.

"Did Icepaw get his?" Minnowsplash asked, her eyes lighting up with hope. Hazelflight shook her head.

"He's close, though." Lionfang mewed suddenly. "He's recovered pretty fast, and Ravenheart has been taking him on patrols pretty regularly."

"That's good..." Minnowsplash sighed. Gazing up at the four, she gave them a small smile. "I better be on my way. Thank you for-" Suddenly,a black blur leaped from the bushes and jumped onto the silver she-cat.

"Minnowsplash!" Hazelflight yowled. Unsheathing her claws, she violently slashed at the dark lump that had pinned Minnowsplash down. With a yowl, the mystery cat stumbled off the ShadeClan warrior, and turned to face Hazelflight.

"Hawkstrike? Hawkstrike!"
