CHAPTER 11-Ceremony
(A/N) Sorry if this chapter is a little short. Enjoy!
TWO MOONS LATER-
"Hazelflight, wake up!"
The moonlight was splashed across the mossy floor of the warriors den, covering the bramble-covered walls with a soft glow. A young warrior lay asleep near the back, her tortoiseshell fur messy and ruffled. A large, tan cat stood over her, pawing at her friend's ear.
"Lionfang, you mousebrain, I'm injured! Leave me be!" The tortoise shell spat, her eyes flickering open.
"Snowstar called a Clan meeting." Lionfang rolled her amber eyes. "Also, you're not even hurt anymore."
"Shut up, mousebrain." Hazelflight teased as she eased herself up from her nest. The two, side by side, quickly trotted out of the den, and took their place around the side of the pool. Snowstar, his white fur shimmering under the starlight, sat regally on the high rock.
"What do you think is going to happen?" Hazelflight whispered excitedly.
"Maybe they'll make Icepaw into a warrior!" Lionfang purred.
"What? No way! He's not old enough!" The warrior replied hastily. They hurriedly fell silent as Snowstar cleared his throat.
"Today, we have two kits who are old enough to be apprenticed." Snowstar mewed proudly.
"I wonder who it'll be!" Lionfang murmured to her friend.
"Mothkit and Swiftkit, please come up to the highrock." The two cats eagerly hopped up to Snowstar's side. The leader nodded to Swiftkit, who took a tentative step forward.
"Swiftkit, do you promise to uphold the warrior code, and respect your Clan and your mentor?" Snowstar asked. The light brown tabby quickly nodded his head.
Turning to the crowd, Snowstar spoke "Lionfang, please come up here." Lionfang, beaming with pride, jumped up to the high rock. Though she wanted to feel happy for her friend, Hazelflight could feel her stomach sink with jealousy. Lionfang deserved to have an apprentice, as she had provided for her Clan through the harsh moons, and fought bravely against the ShadeClan patrol. However, though she silently remprimanded herself, Hazelflight still couldn't shake her jealous feeling.
The only reason I'm not getting an apprentice, Hazelflight thought bitterly, Is because I got hurt.
"Lionfang," Snowstar purred. "Do you promise to pass on your knowledge to this young apprentice?"
"Yes, I do." Lionfang's voice was barely above a whisper.
"Then I give you your apprentice name, Swiftpaw!" The Clan cheered with happiness for the new apprentice. Hazelflight watched with a bitter taste in her mouth as Lionfang and Swiftpaw touched noses.
"Now, Mothkit." Snowstar turned his head a small, black, kit with a white underbelly. "Mothkit, do you promise to uphold the warrior code, and respect your Clan and your mentor?"
"Uh-huh!" Mothkit huffed.
"Hazelflight, would you come up here, please?"
Hazelflight could feel her heart skip a beat as her leader called her name. Time seemed to stop as she slowly leaped up to her new apprentice. It was so surreal to her, almost as if it was a dream. Even the cricket's noisy chrips slowed, allowing the fast thumping of Hazelflight's heart to fill her ears.
"Hazelflight" Snowstar questioned. "Do you promise to pass on your knowledge to this young apprentice?"
"Y-yes..." She stuttered.
"Then I give you your apprentice name, Mothpaw!" The black and white she-cat eagerly touched noses with Hazelflight. Joy seemed to burst in the warrior's stomach. As she gazed into her new apprentice's amber eyes, she felt a pang of pride in her heart.
I'll teach you everything I know, little one.
I promise
